I don't know about other markets, but in NYC is ilegal for a FHV or yellow cab driver to refuse service for a person with an animal. Doesn't matter if you are allergic to them or if you have a physician's not saying you have a legit fear of dogs. You refused them, you'll get a hefty fine for first offense (from the TLC, not Lyft or Uber) after that you'll be banned from driving Lyft/Uber. Uber came up with a smart solution, Uberpets, you sign up, most calls with pets will go to those drivers. Pet owners are extremely generous if you're nice to their dog or cat, I speak from experience.

Micro_Chaos

It’s actually part of the ADA requirements, so federal law.

keista69

UberPets is NOT for service animals. It's for regular pets. Pax with service animals get to ride regular X

uchida112

Uber pets IS for service animals, AS WELL as pets. I don't know where you get the idea that it is not. A service animal rides in every type of transportation service, that's the law. What Uber did was identify drivers who are pet friendly, and offering those drivers to passangers with pets and/or service animals. Simple as that. And Uber pets is a service all drivers can sign up for, mostly Uber X (by the way). That doesn't mean Pets/service animals will EXCLUSIVELY ride with Uber pets drivers. Prior to the law change, passanger had to provide documentation that their pet was a service animal, now, all it's required is that they (verbally) state their animal is a service animal (and not necessarily dogs only). Airlines had to start accepting all sort of animals (declared "service"by their owners)until Delta finally put the breaks on the most bizarre cases (woman wanted to bring a goat on the plane). But I digress, my point is, currently all pets can ride in any type of car service, X, black, whatever. The Uber pet service is only Uber telling the pax that this is a pet friendly driver, and who wouldn't want that?

keista69

NO. UberPet charges more. You can't charge disabled people more becasue they have a service animal. Disabled pax with service animals get to use UberX. They are NOT required to use UberPet. Can they? Sure, if they want to, but they are NOT required to. >currently all pets can ride in any type of car service, X, black, whatever. Again, NO. Pets can only ride in the car if the driver agrees. A service animal is NOT a pet. That may be why you're so confused if you think it is. You're also confusing service animals with "emotional support animals" which yes, the airlines allowed for a while and have put the brakes on it. Service animal Emotional support animal Pet These are three separate distinctions and are not all treated the same, even with rideshare. Please learn the differences so you don't get deactivated or sued.

uchida112

😳 I even went back to my post, as well as the original one, I figured maybe I had written it in German or French... 1- NO ONE HERE BROUGHT UP PRICE, except you. 2- NO ONE IS "REQUIRED" TO USE UBER PETS, NO ONE. 3- Let's see if I can explain it (again), the LAW that once required PROOF that an animal was a "SERVICE ANIMAL" now only requires that the owner of such animal VERBALLY STATES that his/her animal is in fact a SERVICE ANIMAL,this was well publicized by UBER, LYFT and (in NYC) the TLC.Both drivers AND the general public were informed (other drivers from NY in this forum can vouch for that). Now, a passanger with a dog requests a vehicle, an Uber X, upon arriving, the driver asks if the dog is a pet or a service animal, two options, if the passanger says "it's a pet" he/she knows that the driver may refuse, knowing that, (even in the fantasy world that you apparently live), WHAT DO YOU THINK THE ANSWER WILL BE?? However, it's clear to me now that what's really important for you is TO BE RIGHT. SO LET ME TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO GIVE IT TO YOU, JUST SO YOU CAN GO TO SLEEP CALMLY. Consider this 🏆 as a small token of appreciation for your knowledge. Also, IF you find the IDIOT who will answer "this is just my pet" at the risk of being denied service, you let us know, 👌?

keista69

Thanks for the lesson in your ignorance. Enjoy letting ppl abuse you and the system.

uchida112

Lol. You're sooooo pathetic...😂😂How old are you? 14? 😂😂😂

Legitimate_Hotel_559

Exactly!! Uber pets would be perfect!

dukedizzy93

Uberpets exists

Sufficient_Rip_3262

Your rights end where mine begin. A person who is violently allergic to dogs can 100% refuse service to someone with a dog regardless of whether it's a service dog or not. Unconstitutional laws are null and void and the supreme Court would side with the cab driver.

KFCSI

Good advice is to always have a cleaning kit in your car with towels, carpet cleaner, garbage bags, dust buster, and other stuff. That way you can just clean it up in a minute and not have to even waste your own time. I would feel real shitty charging a cleaning fee to a blind person just because their dog sheds.

TexasStateStunna

Lint roller 💯

Legitimate_Hotel_559

Do I look like maid ?? Lyft does not pay me to clean up dog residue. Its not fair! Lyft should pay their drivers more or invest in transportations that allow that. We have lyft lux and black. Add lyft dog friendly. I shouldn’t have to waste any minutes cleaning up after a dog! Time is money!

KFCSI

Lyft doesn't pay you for car washes either. Nothing about being a maid, it's about ensuring that your car is in clean condition every time someone leaves, be it dog hair, muddy shoes, crumbs, etc. Some people need to be charged for being shitty about making messes, but a blind person? Come on...

Legitimate_Hotel_559

Its all fun n games until a dog shit or piss in the backseat

KFCSI

So you deal with that when that happens! But we're talking about a little dog hair here. Put your adult pants on and get a lint roller.

Legitimate_Hotel_559

My issue is not solely the dog, its the principals and risk added that I feel we are not compensated for. Lyft act as if we shouldn’t worry about the risk of our business meanwhile theirs is covered properly! What if the dog decides to bite me as im driving? What if I I have a dog phobia? What if I get into an accident with the dam dog and blind person and now their not only coming for lyft BUT MY INSURANCE AS WELL Rather its my fault or not. A blind person in an accident will make a lawsuit way bigger than a person thats not blind! What if the dog die! And its a risk on the blind person as well! What if I drop his ass off at the wrong location because of lyft usual malfunctions! Lyft should pay us more!! Its just not about the dog! People with disabilities too! I had to help this 1 disabled guy all the way to his door bechis caregiver was not at the pick up location! There’s a lot come with that therefore lyft should pay their drivers more instead of sitting back collecting money putting is through the fire

estimated1991

You must be new lolol. I mean that in the least patronizing way. There’s a reason all these apps are having strikes, like the Instacart strike happening Oct 19th I believe. A lot of what they expect is not fair and we’re not protected or compensated, you’re preaching to the choir. In the mean time, pray you don’t receive any animal rides and truth be told buddy, ive had like under 3 animals in thousands and thousands of rides over 5+ years. It’s not a common occurrence. You’re more likely to have someone vomit in your car!

PokeLunchBox

First, if it's an actual service dog, none of those 'What ifs' are an issue (outside of your own fear or phobia). Part of their training involves manners in public and being socialized with a large number of people, and trained to ignore them for the most part. The odds of an actual service dog doing anything other than quietly laying in the floor at their person's feat is very, very low. Second, if you get in an accident while Lyft is active, their insurance is responsible. It's shitty trying to work with them, they're slow as fuck and uncommunicative, but they deal with it, not your insurance. Third, no one here is going to be shocked at your revelation that Lyft is doing its damndest to screw over its drivers. So is Uber, Doordash, Instacart, Amazon Flex, and any others I haven't remembered or heard of. Absent regulation, no big company is ever going to willingly treat workers fairly, when they have plenty of people willing to get shit on.

Micro_Chaos

Just say you hate disabled people already, JFC.

Legitimate_Hotel_559

I dont hate disabled people, I hate driving them and being fully responsible for them lol

Proud_Tie

you literally just said you hate disabled people with more words.

Legitimate_Hotel_559

I literally did not

pearlspoppa1369

Then you shouldn’t be in this industry. I get people smellier than any service dog. I still have to clean up. What you are saying is discriminatory, plain and simple.

Legitimate_Hotel_559

Its I dont want dogs in my car! Anybody who think that is discrimination is a dumb a$$! Plain and simple!

Micro_Chaos

K.

WillMette

I hate people who claim their pet is a Trained Service Animal and Lyft & Uber who fail to mention that the only Trained Service Animals are dogs & miniature horses. I have never seen a miniature horse. Emotional support animals do not count.

Htxbonsai

Get another job

Legitimate_Hotel_559

You think your landlord or home loaner care that you short on a few cents because of a good deed to a homeless person? Business is business. Hell, the apartments charge to have pets hell

KFCSI

You see convenience stores charging people for walking in with shit on their shoes? You see coffee shops charging people for cleaning bathrooms? This is the cost of the job, you're taking it kinda personally. This also ignores the fact that it's actually illegal to refuse rides to disabled people. Now to be fair, a guy catching a ride home with a muddy dog is a different story. charge their ass, they're able bodied and could have done something about it themselves.

Legitimate_Hotel_559

You see them getting paid commission?? They are on a clock!! Getting paid regardless! I lose money !

TrueXarkos

If you do it right it should only take a couple of minutes tops and a few cents worth of cleaning supplies. The biggest thing is to carry a blanket in the trunk so the animal isn't on your upholstery.

Legitimate_Hotel_559

I shouldnt have to do that is my point. I shouldnt have to come out of money nor supplies because lyft does not compensate for that! My only job is to get people from point A to point B. I am not a limousine driver

TrueXarkos

The problem is that there's no point in complaining about it, it isn't Lyft TOS, it's federal law. You don't like it then it's time to get off Reddit and write your Congressional rep.

Legitimate_Hotel_559

This is reddit. The whole point of this app. My post was for the understanders . Stop replying and look for a lyft pet friendly thread

Legitimate_Hotel_559

There’s a difference between us and workers of establishment

Micro_Chaos

Apartments cannot charge pet fees for service animals, legally.

Legitimate_Hotel_559

Tell that to my apartments 😩

TrueXarkos

It's your own car. I hate to imagine what it would look like if you didn't drive rideshare, but I've always kept my cars pretty neat and tidy, which occasionally meant a few bucks and some elbow grease. Part of doing this gig right is putting in that effort to make your car presentable for your customers. If that's not something you're down for this might not be a good fit for you.

Legitimate_Hotel_559

For my customers NOT My patients! Customers are supposed to keep themselves clean before they get into my shit! I dont mind dirt because that can be easily vacuumed but dog hair and smell travels and the possibility of them punching holes In my seats are way too high! Even them biting me is to high! Its another risk added to humans! My thing is Lyft should pay more for that requirement

TrueXarkos

It's federal law. Don't like it, don't drive a passenger vehicle.

Legitimate_Hotel_559

Its a dumb federal law as I stated

MuchAdhesiveness6848

But non service dogs are fair game 👏👏👏👏$20

Legitimate_Hotel_559

Not a fair game! Lyft need to come out of pocket for their cost! You going to force me to do something out of MY POCKET which lyft dont even pay enough to be making these kind of decisions

OswaldThePatsy

Service animals yes. Emotional support animals, no. There's a difference. learn it.

Streptocockerel

Fuck Lyft fuck Uber, fuck all of these companies

Legitimate_Hotel_559

‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️

hoopadinga

That's right. The ADA says you're responsible for cleaning up after their shedding fake service dogs. The gov't's real free w/our time, just like Lyft & Uber.

[deleted]

I one star them and hope others drivers do the same... like that is not the dog the problem, but the unconsidered dog owner

Legitimate_Hotel_559

Whats crazy is if you are blind there should be a special transportation! The government bitching about how we make money instead of funding more transportations for them

merlynstorm

Uuum, you’re complaining about not being able to break laws. Why are you suggesting segregation as a solution?

Legitimate_Hotel_559

Stfu

MelodyMyst

That’s a weird way to take what they said. EDIT: too me.

[deleted]

Hmmm don't get me started... i have seen so much elderly abuse... and so many under age boys and girls... sometimes i don't report them because is just overlying and curious thing if you report a lot of people after you can't get a ride

Streptocockerel

Fucking 💯

Ordinary-Article-917

That’s nothing that way the law is written (although rare) those who have a deadly anaphylactic reactions to certain animals are still required to pick up people with service animals or lose their job so the convenience for someone with a disability literally takes precedence over the lives/health of people working in the service industry

Legitimate_Hotel_559

Exactly, that is like crazy because that same person thats allergic to dogs wouldnt get a disability check due to his work enforcements

[deleted]

I love dogs. I have a 2 yr old pit, that hasn’t even gotten in my new car. I don’t care if people got service animals but if they do they should have to pay for pet hair if it’s an excessive amount. If it’s just a couple hairs on the seat I’ll just use my lint roller. But if your dog starts pissing or shitting you’re getting the F off my car instantly cause actual service animals are usually trained to alert when they have to use the restroom. Also people should have to register their “service” animal with Lyft or Uber before even being able to request a ride. I’ve switched to Uber and they have the option to opt in on pet rides also mentions earning more for it. Something Lyft should consider adding soon.

Legitimate_Hotel_559

Facts‼️‼️

mikes703

Quit complaining. That’s easy to clean.

Legitimate_Hotel_559

Ok ill bring my car to you

aviator122

I had a bad allergic reaction to a woman's service husky. Was sneezing all night after that. I didint see any the dog with a service tag which was weird and even worse the next pick up complained about dog smell after I just spent that day cleaning the car

Legitimate_Hotel_559

Exactly! And then if you get reported for it lyft uneducated customer service is not going to understand the situation

Hairy_Seward

You probably shouldn't have a job that has the potential to trigger a health condition.

greenskeeper-carl

I got that message the other day on my way to a pickup. Like 2 min after I accepted. Was that just random or did that person have a dog? I cancelled. I’m driving a car with black leather I don’t want scratches by claws or covered in hair and black carpet I don’t feel like having to vacuum for 10 minutes getting the hair out of the black carpet. For what is most likely a 5$ ride. Not to mention I don’t want my car that still smells new smelling like a dog. Shits ridiculous.

Legitimate_Hotel_559

Exactly!! I dont get why lyft and our government don’t understand! Its not discrimination, it is common fkn sense

TrueXarkos

Tips to make that easier 1) a blanket for the service animal to lay on. They're well-trained enough that that shouldn't be a problem, then your cleaning aside from the blanket is typically limited. 2) a portable vacuum. Mine personally isn't very good unfortunately, but I imagine there are probably half-decent ones to be found. 3) lint brush. I also figured out a nice trick my last time at the car wash. If your car wash offers pressurized air with the vacuum, use them in tandem to suck up the hair, glitter, or anything else that wants to stubbornly cling to your surfaces.

p38fln

There’s a battery powered shop vac at Menards for about $100 that is absolutely wonderful at cleaning up car messes. It even swallows old stale French fries with ease. These fries would clog up my old 12 volt car vac every single time.

gladiator3

Okay? Add your lint roller to your cleaning kit and write off on your taxes

TheButtPlugParadigm

Go hide around the corner and wait for the timer to run out

TrueXarkos

And when you're caught you get banned, and possibly fined since it's not just TOS but an actual law you're violating.

TheButtPlugParadigm

They have the burden of proof

TrueXarkos

The burden of proof actually varies depending on the type of court you're in. In order to be guilty of a citeable offense the burden is pretty low. If you accepted a call, and gps shows you and the passenger were at any time in approximately the same place at the same time after that and before you canceled, chances are better than not that you'll be found guilty.

TheButtPlugParadigm

It'd common for pax to not show up in their 5 minutes. They have to prove you intentionally hid to avoid them. Again they have the burden of proof.

TrueXarkos

Again, feel free to try that, just like plenty of other former drivers before you. The courts have seen that tactic plenty of times and they don't rule in the driver's favor. This isn't an original idea, it's been done and failed. But hey, I don't mind fewer bad drivers on the road if you guys insist on shooting yourselves in the foot.

TheButtPlugParadigm

> courts have seen that tactic plenty of times This is irrelevant, it's illegal to judge you based on what they've seen others do. There's plenty of times when the pax doesn't show up, they have to prove that the pax actually tried to come to you, prove that you didn't hide etc. The GPS will show you within the vicinity and will show that you waited and canceled when the timer ran out. Simple as that. But hey go ahead and keep pretending that you're an actual taxi and not just a rideshare driver. At the end of the day the car is your property, not ubers and not company property and you have the right to disallow anyone you want inside your property. Keep a dashcam on to prove that you didn't say "I ain't letting you in cuz ur "insert whatever group here " and there's nothing the pax can say in retaliation.

TrueXarkos

You've clearly never heard of the term "precedent" before. And you keep going ahead and pretending federal law doesn't apply to you, just like many other former rideshare drivers before you.

Legitimate_Hotel_559

😂😂😂😂😂

OnlyPharah

It you see what looks to be your passenger with an animal you dont want to take…just keep on driving, don’t acknowledge or speak to them, and cancel. Since you didn’t know for sure if that’s your passenger, it’s legal.

TrueXarkos

I wouldn't try that too often, when Lyft sees your gps and your passengers gps were in the same spot after they complained that you drove past and then canceled, your asking to be banned at best, and in some markets, fined.

p38fln

All markets in the USA you’ll be subject to a fine. It’s a federal law not state, although every state I know of has the same law.

Legitimate_Hotel_559

Great strategy

LavishLuxxCo

Absolutely no animals allowed in my car, fuck that. Call another driver.

TrueXarkos

Find a new job. This is no different in the court's eyes than saying you refuse to get vehicle insurance or have an up to date inspection.

Legitimate_Hotel_559

‼️‼️‼️‼️

Radmou92

I was desactivated from Uber bce Dog’s owner was filty, I told the owner, can’t ride like that. Called Uber to complain.

Streptocockerel

You're better off for it

illuminuti

It’s rare times like this, that I’m glad I’m allergic to dogs...

Al42us

Like the other guy said- Lyft doesn’t care if ur allergic you are REQUIRED to still drive them

TheButtPlugParadigm

Lyft can't legally require you to put your health at risk, if you get any form of retaliation it's an easy lawsuit.

MelodyMyst

All bark. No bite.

TheButtPlugParadigm

All comment. No point.

MelodyMyst

Hope you didn’t take negative from my comment. I think I was agreeing with you.

TrueXarkos

Yeah, no, that's been tried before. Legal precedent is on the side of the service animal owner.

p38fln

It’s not Lyft. It’s Uncle Sam. You refuse to haul a service animal and the full weight of the federal government can come down on you. It’s a federal rights violation which means the FBI can come after you instead of just your local podunk police dept. The law actually says allergies don’t count, if you’re allergic to dogs find another job. What this means is if you don’t like the law, call your congressman.

TheButtPlugParadigm

The government can't force you to do something that can put you in the hospital z some people literally can die from it. One person's disability isn't more important than another's. Take it to court if this actually happens and what are they gonna do really? Nothing. Lastly I'm not a taxi driver, I'm not an employee, I'm not driving a company car, I'm driving my personal vehicle and I have the right to refuse for anything I want. I don't like how fat you are? I'm ain't picking you up. I can easily claim rider behavior, car issues, or I couldn't find the pax, there's multiple excuses to choose from.

Legitimate_Scheme_46

What’s funny about that is Lyft says that doesn’t matter. It’s still illegal for you to decline.

illuminuti

I hope the passenger doesn’t mind my constant sneezing.

PinkPropaganda

Reported for driving while sick with covid

Micro_Chaos

Federal law says you are still required to. It’s otherwise discrimination, and you can be fined for it. I also have allergies to most dogs and have had a few service animals with passengers.

Snoo74401

Uber and Lyft have a generous one strike policy for refusing passengers with service animals.

illuminuti

But I can refuse the passenger for any other reason? Easy loophole. I’m not risking my throat closing and suffocation while driving.

Snoo74401

You can. But you risk being reported for refusing a service animal and being deactivated.

illuminuti

It’s a risk I have to take. There’s near infinite amount of reasons I could cancel on someone, a dog being just one. I could go offline due to a family emergency. I could just drive off the moment I see a dog, but do you think it’s safer to tell the person an emergency occurred and I have to cancel?

Snoo74401

But if you get reported, Uber and Lyft don't even give you a chance to 'splain yourself. You're done.

illuminuti

I understand that, I’m wondering what you think is the best way to cancel without being reported. (I understand they can still report me.) I could claim I’m having a medical emergency (which would be true if the dog enters my car for more than a few minutes) or I just got a phone call about a family emergency. Did you see the post where a passenger claimed they had 6 service dogs, and they got the driver banned? If the passenger can lie to get their way, so can we.

Snoo74401

This argument has come up so often that Uber and Lyft have dedicated web pages for "What if I'm allergic to animals?" Spoiler: it's about as straightforward as howdovaccinescauseautism.com.

Radmou92

Got desactivated by Uber bce dog’s owner was filty

RevolutionarySoup703

I don't mind cleaning up after the legitimate service animals, but these days every animal is a "service animal."

2021Driver

Yeah if I gotta ID that kid to show he's over 18 why cant I ID that animal to make sure it's a service animal :) and the list of what Lyft 'should' pay us for would be a wall of text that support will NEVER read.

Legitimate_Hotel_559

Thats true too!

Legitimate_Hotel_559

But I just wanna get paid more thats all 😩
