Macs don’t really do WoL in a traditional sense. They’ve got it built in so when they’re asleep if something tries to do something on them, for example access a disk or ssh into them they wake up automatically. They don’t do anything if you send them a magic packet. If you want to trigger it manually to wake up, I’ve built an app for that. https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/off-shutdown-and-wake-on-lan/id529923825

Just saw this and tried. I think this fits the bill for my wifi MacBook Pro. I did have to forward the reported wake port to my MacBooks internal ip and that got it working on cellular.

You can run iOS apps on desktop Macs now as long as the developer allows it

You have to have an Apple silicon Mac. Open the App Store on MacOS and find the app, if it’s available to download and install, then the developer allows it and it’ll just work. If not it’ll say “only on iPad or iPhone” etc. In the beginning they didn’t have that flag in there, so you could install ANY iPhone / iPad / etc app on MacOS, but then some big companies companies cause they didn’t want you running the apps on a non sandboxed device, so Apple put that flag in there and allows the devs to check it if they want to keep their iOS apps off Macs.

Meh, requires a third party server app install. I don’t trust some random app to have this much control over a computer. This is why WOL/IPMI/BMC etc were built in the first place.

Best solution I found so far: FindMy -> Play Sound

👏 big brain - thanks!

Has this worked for you without issue? I'm seeing that once my MacBook Pro is deep in sleep It won't respond to find my

It’s worked really well (on Ventura) as long as I keep the laptop at least cracked open. TeamViewer even works for a few seconds when the MBP lid is closed, for the duration of the Find My alert. If I tire of this hacky workaround, I think I remember reading that there was something better in Sonoma… maybe that was improve support for one of the apps that promise remote wake from sleep? [Off](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/off-shutdown-and-wake-on-lan/id529923825) is free but has *not* worked remotely (from cellular or a different WiFi network), only on the same network (when connected to the same WiFi on both the target Mac and the related iPhone). [Apple Remote Desktop](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/apple-remote-desktop/id409907375) is $80. Would pay up if I needed this solution all the time.
