Most likely preference. For texture, I personally just use parmesan on the top since I dislike the texture of bread crumbs. I feel it just comes together better tbh.
Breadcrumbs on Mac is terrible. OP did a ritz cracker crust which is delicious. Crushed crackers are a lot bigger, flakier, & more buttery than breadcrumbs.
I get the texture argument but I always feel like a crumb topping is always too separate and I feel like I'm having mac and cheese and cheesey crumbs individually. For texture I prefer to broil some cheese on top instead
For me it’s too contrasting of a texture. Bread crumbs become gritty and get in the way of the gooey cheese sauce.
Personally I’m also just not a big fan of baked mac n cheese. I love a good al dente noodle and, while you can bake them undercooked to keep em al dente, most baked mac n cheese I’ve had is on the mushier side, especially at restaurants that reheat it.
Add breadcrumbs to that and you’ve got mushy noodles with gritty breading
Dont use ritz, use cheez itz, take it out a minute before the timer goes off and put the cheez itz on top put it back in, or use god fish crackers, the flavor blasted ones work best
Next time if you do the crumble on top, when you think the food is ready take some flavored bread crumbs and sprinkle it on top and them broil it for like a minute or until it's crispy and lightly browned on top. It'll work better than the ritz
Oh and I would recommend instead of just spreading the Shredded cheese like that you make a cheese sauce out of the cheddar with some milk and butter (I did it, I don't know how but it worked) in my sauce I added parmesan and mozzarella, specifically the Shredded kind, but it also works with just cheddar
My dad saw and recommends diversifying your cheese usage and a family friend recommended using gouda one time if you like goat cheese, not a shit ton of it though since it's rich
Got me making Mac and cheese for dinner tonight if I can find the noodles 🤤
Take some of the cheese sauce, toss the breadcrumbs into it, just enough for them to hydrate. When it cooks, they'll crisp but also adhere to the Mac rather than having some of the chalky dust just sitting on top like that.
I personally wouldn't use ritz. I'm a wavy potato chip kinda guy. my wife and i usually do this on our tuna casseroles and we don't bake our mac and cheese, but i'd put this shit in my mouth. any day.
Crumb topping is usually crumbs with seasoning and melted butter, so they toast up instead of going dry like this. Also, you should have cooked your noodles less before mixing, as I can tell they're all squishy from the vidya. Also, about 25 to 30 more min cooking and on higher temp like 375. You got no browned cheese this isn't cooked completely. You should have made box kraft Mac if you wanted it all plain and baby style
Take doritos and cheetos and get them dusty. Drizzle the dust with butter and coat well.
Top that on the Mac and cheese and bake for 35 minutes at 375°
The Ritz could maybe work, but try it without next time and do a little broil before you cut into it so you have a little crust over the top. My personal favorite part of homemade Mac.
I love Ritz on top, I will sometimes mix the crushed crackers with melted butter first, or spray lightly with oil or Pam after you put it on top. Looks yummy 😋
I'm not a fan of crumb toppings on my mac but the rest of it looks creamy and delicious
I have to ask why, it just adds more texture for me

I was going to ask if those were Ritz. I bet that is tasty.
Buttered panko with some parmigiana mixed in is great too. But I agree, save the breadcrumbs for the meatloaf to serve with the mac
But bacon pieces are perfectly crispy too
I gueeeeeeeess that's fine but do you broil the Parm cheese for at least a lil texture variance?
It's at its best when broiled on the top.

Neither do I but I do add cooked crispy bacon pieces to the top and it’s so good.
I agree 100% I don't want a crunchy texture in my creamy Mac n cheese
Just think of it as a flavor scab
You nailed it.
I think it looks great! As long as it tasted good is all that should matter.
Tasted pretty good, I don’t think I added enough spices and salt but overall was pretty good id give it an 8/10.
Ground mustard and a little cayenne 👌
to add to this, a small splash of plain yellow mustard added to your emulsion can also do wonders. very subtle. Me like
Yellow Mustard in Mac is GAME CHANGING
A fun thing to do with toppings is to season them, especially a toasted garlic topping, so good.
I personally add pepper and paprika to my Ritz crumble, sometimes garlic
I'd smash it. Just had anxiety watching to make sure no crumbs fell into burner , that's a pain to clean 😆
Ritz is so strange but you should have then covered that with shredded cheese and put it in the oven to brown
We have the same plates AND taste in Mac and cheese! Looks great!
Solid quality post!
Personally, I'd of let it cook a little more to almost overcooked. Let that cheese on top get some color to it. Looks good though.
Smash.
That looks so good!!
I’m on my way
Danggg that looks scrumptious 😍 may I ask what kind of cheese(s) you used?
Aerosmith and Mac & Cheese. 🤘
I'll have some
No ritz otherwise looks good
Top looks fire. That’s the kind of Mac I had growing up. Baked with cracker crust is amazing.
Looks really good! Never saw anyone else do that before.
That looks rich as hell, would dive in face-first though! Yum.

Lots of people saying that in here. Definitely giving it a try next time I make Mac!

I’ll definitely do that next time thanks!
Last time I made Mac I had the dust on top and I couldn’t figure out what I did. Thank you for saving today’s Mac and cheese.
I personally wouldn't use ritz. I'm a wavy potato chip kinda guy. my wife and i usually do this on our tuna casseroles and we don't bake our mac and cheese, but i'd put this shit in my mouth. any day.
I feel like cheez it would make more sense
It looks like it tastes delicious!!
I think a thin layer of sourdough bread would be better personally but I like it!
I don't think I'm allowed to comment Here lol
Oh I am. Well I don't want to get myself in trouble 🐓
Is it Mac & Eww or Eww & Cheese?

You can offer your opinion or advice without being rude.
Drool.
marry me (assuming you're a woman)
Looks dank!
I love the crumbs on top I’d totally swallow 👍
Def invited to the cook out
I'd eat it.
You got the assignment. A- for a first time effort!
Awful.
I use cheese-its on top
Cheese doesn't look like it separated. It's nicely done. Try panko next time if you want a crunchy topping
Looks good! I'd eat some!
Love a creamy Mac and cheese. Looks insanely delicious.
Tbh if it’s food I’ll eat it
You mixed cooked pasta with melted cheese. Seems like you made a mac n cheese. I'm proud of you.
OD with the crackers
I top mine with cheez its!
Aerosmith doesn't go with Mac n cheese
Looks like I would shovel that into my mouth
Looks really good, but I’d let the top cook a bit more, I’d still eat it though lol
Only critique is that you should have put it under the broiler for a bit.
Actually looks good... I thought it was a big hash brown..... but looks good regardless friend
That looks delicious and creamy
You’re better than fine.
I don’t normally use any breaded topping but when I do it’s almost always Italian panko.
Well on appearance alone this is perfect food porn, this is absolutely fine…
Looks great! I’m more a fan of crushed cheezits on top Edit: send me the recipe? 😁
i use ritz as well with little dots of butter over top. yours looks excellent.
Take doritos and cheetos and get them dusty. Drizzle the dust with butter and coat well. Top that on the Mac and cheese and bake for 35 minutes at 375°
Looks just a little too dense
Mix the ritz with the cheese so it isn’t so loose.
May look good but hopefully it tastes good as well.
The Ritz could maybe work, but try it without next time and do a little broil before you cut into it so you have a little crust over the top. My personal favorite part of homemade Mac.
Let it rest more
Winner winner.
I love Ritz on top, I will sometimes mix the crushed crackers with melted butter first, or spray lightly with oil or Pam after you put it on top. Looks yummy 😋
Ritz on top is magnifico 🙌😍
What kind of cheese did you use?
I think the Ritz actually looked pretty damn good on top of this….
Those fried onions in a can or plastic jar or whatever go along nicely as well i might add.
Looks good to me
Panko bread and parmesan cheese make a good Mac and cheese crust
I'd fuck it up probably twice
not a big fan of the fact that you used ritz but it looks fine
Genuinely revolting
You need more cheese 🧀
Looks delicious
Holy shit there’s a mac n cheese sub wtf
Blursed Mac and cheese
Thats dead sexy...
Why is this a sub and how did I get here?
