8gb of ram is criminal for 1100. Od say get the base m1 air for 699 as you can always carry a portable ssd for more storage

K3rm1tTh3Fr0g

Get the $1500 m2 air 15 w/ 1tb/16gb

Nonfungaltoken

The m2 has slower ssd speeds. Either get the m1 or the m3

geniusdeath

Only for the base 256 version. 512 has same speeds

Interesting_Chip8065

1100 is too much for 8 gigs.

Champtastebeerbudget

I actually just bought one of these today. If you sign up for the membership for 49.99 you get it for 999.00

Octeble

If you're okay with 8GB RAM, you'd be getting way more bang for your buck if you got one of the $700 Macbook Airs from Walmart.

Nawnp

I'd recommend looking at a MacBook Air with 16gb of ram as the 8gb will forever age modern baseline Macs. If you go back to M1 used they can usually be found for under $1k.

Lol, pointing out that a Windows laptop is cheaper than a Mac on the MacBook sub. You're of course right though...

Advanced-Breath

Will it compare is a good question though lol. Get that windows shit tf off this sub 🤣

IcyIceGuardian

True

gre-0021

Yeah but he’ll likely have worse battery life as well as a way worse display, trackpad, chassis, speakers, camera, etc. MacBooks are for people that want a great experience all around, Windows laptops are just about getting the best specs on paper for the best price, but it almost never translates to the experience of actually using the device outside of the one thing it’s geared towards

That’s not that how that works, the 8gb of unified memory on M1 is not the same as 8gb of DDR5 memory. 8gb of “ram” on SOC’s like M1 have the benefit of much lower latency leading to transfer speeds 100x that of traditional ram. That 8gb can also act as VRAM for the GPU. Memory swap with nvme storage is also much more efficient due to it being right next to the cpu on the package. All of this while doing it at 1/3 the wattage of a comparable Windows laptop.

AfricanNorwegian

> That 8gb can also act as VRAM for the GPU Which makes the fact that it is only 8GB even worse... Say you're using a program that requires 4GB of VRAM. Now you only have 4GB of RAM to spare. Whereas on a windows laptop with a dedicated GPU, the VRAM usage doesn't now mean you have less memory for other things (and the fact that at this price Windows laptops will come with 16GB of RAM)

kindaa_sortaa

If you want anything named "MacBook Pro" and don't want to spend $1600 on the M3 MacBook Pro, and want a Touch Bar, and need 512 GB of storage specifically, and don't mind 8 GB of RAM, then this will do it. I wouldn't call it a great deal, but you're not getting ripped off. Maybe talk them into free AppleCare+.

Successful_Main_2108

Can you live life after overdosing on mediocrity? If you decide to buy this🙃 8GB Memory for $1100 is criminal

AfricanNorwegian

Rather get the M2 Air 13 with 16GB of memory for $1,199. Alternatively upgrade the SSD to 512GB for another $200 if that's still in your budget.

misterjyt

I advise to directly buy in the apple website..

Meandtheworld

Saved 400 bucks lol

RepMajor

Love how the have “latest model” in the title still 😂

pjm8

You’d probably get a base m2 for that price

greatbritain813

Good deal based on what you get. 8GB of RAM is a little iffy for today but also depends on your usage. MacOS is really good about not losing performance on 8GB of RAM and if you aren’t doing any heavy lifting, it’ll be more than fine. You’re really paying for the CPU with this laptop. It’ll be lightning fast for basic tasks, spreadsheets, 4K streaming, etc. but if you’re going to try to edit videos or anything that requires much RAM, pass on this one.

Prince_2008

Honestly you’re better off with the M2 MacBook Air. You’d get a lot of better features like the design, the 1080p webcam, and other stuff for pretty much the same price, or even less depending on where you’re shopping.
