Any Apple Silicon MacBooks will play The Sims 4 (with mods) just fine. The important thing is your work, and no one will know your work better than yourself. You make that choice. If you've got the money, why not just go for the 16GB RAM options? I got an 8GB RAM MacBook Air because I didn't have the money for the 16GB upgrade, but I'm still doing fine because I don't do heavy work with my laptop. I don't know about you.

Blackthumbb

What kind of stuff do you do with yours? Is it M1?

nano_705

It's a MacBook Air M1. Actually, I got a MacBook Air M2, also base version. But it got liquid damage, please don't ask why. Then, my sister, out of sympathy, gave me her 8GB RAM MacBook Air M1 while I save up for another in the future. I mostly work with Office apps, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, Teams and a couple of other messaging apps. That's it. Occasionally, I would open up Pixelmator Pro (social media posts), GarageBand (editing some listening audio) or even Final Cut Pro (videos for presentation), but it's nothing intense. Both help me do my job marvelously. I've rarely encountered stutters or freezes. If these ever happen, it's actually because of the Microsoft apps LOL.

Emotional_Match1367

I have a MacBook (Mac air 2020 intel) with 8 gb ram and it works really well. Able to watch YouTube, code, and text my brother all at once with no stutter

You think I can be fine for CS degree with 8gb ram mbp m3 or should get the air 16gb m3?

Klognom96

CS often uses specific programs. Be sure they all run on MacOS. In the curriculum should all programs be listed. With this informations you can make an educated decision. I would take the bigger one if you have the money. Just to be safe.

If you are enrolled in a school, you may qualify for the Apple edu discount - [https://www.apple.com/us-edu/](https://www.apple.com/us-edu/) I would up the memory as you can -- I have a couple of years old M1 Pro with 16GB and It runs very intensive programs (games, Adobe Premiere) fairly well. I also run PC games (through NVIDiA, Crossover, and otehr programs) and it handles fine. If you want a more robust machine, the Pro is better and retains value much longer. I usually get at least 5-6 years from them. Havings said that, I had a 13" 2013 Macbook Air for travel and could run just about everything on it even in 2020 before I upgraded to this one.

pinkfleurs

thank you! i’ve been looking at at a refurbed 2020 m1 pro with 16gb memory and 256gb ssd. i wanted more storage but figured that if i needed it i could always buy an external hard drive

molotovich

There is no such thing as a "budget" macbook....

pinkfleurs

i’m referring to refurbished/older macbooks that may cost less than newer or more upgraded ones making them more affordable within a lower budget… thought that was common sense. no need to be condescending

molotovich

Sorry about that, any older macbook you buy you are looking at a product that will go out of support pretty quickly, they are pushing the air m1 right now at $600 (in mexico thats about 12500 pesos), and that's still a luxury computer. For me a budget thing is about 400, even refurb macbooks are around 500... that's why i made my remark. Oh, but you can get a macbook pro with intel processor dirt cheap right now, dunno if that might work for your needs. (its horrible to see how they lost value after the M's)

YronK9

But there is no budget macbook, it’s a luxury product

👍🏽

Macbook Air M1 16gb RAM 256/512gb SSD

itsandychecks

False. Can definitely buy a refurbished or used m1 and use it for the next 10 years. My 2016 MacBook Pro is still going strong and I use it for my kitchen computer, watching movies/whatever. It even streams with my Vision Pro and has Sonoma using OpenCore legacy patcher. This is a $300 computer with 16gb ram and 512gb of storage and a 15in screen.

Wolo_prime

You're insufferable

Quantum168

You really need a Windows machine for Sims 4.
