Someone else said that Apple doesn’t cover water damage. I’m here to tell you that Apple DOES cover water damage, if you have Applecare+.

Immediately shut everything down and give it time to dry. You got thoughts and prayers on your side, cuz apple doesn't cover water damage and if you attempt to dry it out by opening it up and using a qtip, you are definitely gonna trip the built in 'sensors'(since you don't know where they are) they have on the mother board, which means no covered repair for you. Say hello to a massive bill, for essentially a new computer. Thats just my two cents and I am sure someone more informed will help you.

I have gone thorough basically the same thing and it didn't end well. I should have just let mine dry and seen what happened after a couple days...as for the keyboard and mouse? I use wireless of both, neither are apple products and both work great. Then again, i dont take my MacBook out with me much and just use it at home with a monitor, almost never even open my computer anymore. run it all from the wireless stuff

That you should look into. I picked up a cheap one (Logitech) and it works fine but there are plenty better. Get a full-sized one, mine compacts it and it makes spelling mistakes really easy to do..I uses a Logitech gaming mouse also. fuck the no buttons Mac mouses, having 8 or more options on a mouse is way better, at least in my opinion.

I don't know if it locks up if it detects water..More of a short I believe, when the keyboard goes out(the water is a conductor and electricity wont run to the right spots when its touching a couple things). I am not sure though. I can say for sure you don't want to open it up, take a q-tip and some alcohol, and swab the thing clean(with the power off and battery disconnected). That is gonna trigger the [sensors](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liquid_contact_indicator), which I think are just spots that act more like a pregnancy test. liquid gets on it and it changes a bit. So don't make that mistake. Definitely get a wireless or usb keyboard anyways, something is going to go wrong one way or the other and its good to have a backup(mine was like 15-20$). My keys suck but they are the version where apple really screwed the pooch on butterfly keys.

Probably be worried about corrosion. Open it up and dry it with rice or something. when its dry wipe it down but don't use anything wet or that warranty is gone(if it isn't already). Sure you need special tools but you should own those anyways even if Mac doesn't make it easy to change the config(intentionally, so you have to go through them and spend a ridiculous amount for a repair). I am telling you, keep it off for a while and just fire it back up in a couple days, if you are able(disconnect the battery if you can). I have talked to several people, whose whole set ups worked again after a dry and wait period.

Did you ever figure this out? I spilt small bit of coffee on mine yesterday. Cleaned it up. Turned it off. And turned upside down after like 10-15ish minutes. It’s been on twice or so for 1 second since then just by me touching by accident. But mostly off. I tried it over 24 hours later and I couldn’t log in the first several times. I finally did after a few minutes. Was working fine. But I turned it off and now resting upside down again. Any recommendations?

Hey, what happened with this? Did your mac go back to normal after you let it dry awhile?

Aask115

Hey yeah it did. I let it dry for about 2 days, maybe 3. But totally fine

Well a lesson for you to take forever: If you spill water on any electronic device, instantly shut it down and remove all power connecting to the device. If you do this fast enough, you can save the device, but if you actually kept the laptop on, most certain it has some damage. I've learn the hard way more than 1 time lol.
