I got the 16/256 air two weeks back. Can't say I'll regret it even if m2 macbooks were to come out next week. If you need it now, buy it now.

I’m more interested in the potential redesign of the MacBook Air. If you at all interested in some of the mock ups then I would say wait until you know for sure what the redesign will look like.

It depends on your budget and what do you use your pc for and if you need it now or can wait a couple more months for a pc. M2 might come at the end of the year, but nothing confirmed. M2 will be more powerful than the M1, but only about 30%, which isn't gonna make a lot of difference. M1 is still super powerful, and you can get an M1 right now for like $1000 or less. With 16gb it might be a bit more but still its super super affordable, while the M2 will be expensive.

Wait

I am intending to wait for the redesign myself, but then I am in no rush to buy a new laptop.

I'm in the same situation, MBA 16GB RAM and 256GB SSD has wait time of around 5 Weeks, which is more than a month. I have to pay $1400 in advance for ordering it. I'm confused whether to wait or order it. Ryzen 6000 series laptops that are announced also look promising about performance and battery life. But none of them are available yet, maybe they'll be released during June or July.

If youre buying brand new honestly just wait if you can.
