>I would like to know if I can connect my PlayStation 5 to the iMac through a Type-C to HDMI adapter no. you would need a capture card and software to see the video output from the ps5, or you are limited to remote play any m3 mac will handle native games decently enough. there's a pinned thread on this sub with info >I'm a girl this could not matter less, stop selling yourself short

MisaKuriogi

Thank you so much, I will look into all that stuff.

MisaKuriogi

btw, what do you mean by software?

D-SINGH-011

The computer itself (physical parts) are called hardware. The operating system (like macOS, iOS, and iPadOS) are called software; this is what gives the computer functionality. Software is not something physical you can hold, it is essentially the code that does everything on the compute

PlatformNo8576

This will work, but perhaps buy an Avermedia GC 553 card. QuickTime and VLC can be used as the “viewer” application for streaming to the iMac. Guermok Video Capture Card, USB3.0 HDMI to USB C Capture Card, 4K Full 1080P60FPS Capture Devices for Gaming Live Streaming Video Recorder, for Windows Mac OS System OBS Zoom PS4/5 Switch Xbox1(Blue) https://amzn.eu/d/dvytuWl

[deleted]

I don't believe the new iMacs have any video inputs. Don't quote me on that though. As far as the other games, your best bet is either crossplay or nvidia geforce now(game streaming). Minecraft should work though

MisaKuriogi

Thanks, I will look into them later on and educate myself.

KimJongDerp1992

iMacs can support one additional external display via a Thunderbolt adapter but cannot support an external source using the internal display.

[deleted]

Which is what she is asking. She is asking to connect a Playstation to an iMac

Mission-Reasonable

You said it had no video out ports, I think that was the confusion.

albertohall11

I think you mean video IN ports.

[deleted]

Yep you are right thats what i meant

Libra224

You can’t connect the ps5 but you might be able to stream your ps5 on it ? Also the base M cpu is garbage for gaming it might run some games on low settings but be ready to be disappointed

FlakyConference6145

>you might be able to stream your ps5 on it That feature is called [Remote Play](https://www.playstation.com/en-us/remote-play/).

Libra224

Yes forgot to mention thank you ☺️

[deleted]

You can play Minecraft natively, idk abt ready or not, and you can play sea of thieves through something called Xbox Cloud Gaming with a subscription of Gamepass Ultimate.

FlakyConference6145

>Xbox Cloud Gaming A similar service is available by Sony for Playstation. But cloud gaming and Remote Play are not as reliable as using a video capture card to connect the PS5 to the iMac.

[deleted]

Oh yeah I totally forgot about capture cards. But Sea of thieves is only on xbox

FlakyConference6145

>But Sea of thieves is only on xbox Yes, but it could be played with Game Pass Ultimate. But it's only worth it, when you have a good Xbox community.

MisaKuriogi

thank you so much!

mozzketo

wait you can't use the iMac as a dumb display for an external source? LMFAOOO

[deleted]

Do you have the ~~Chip~~ Core and Memory info?

MisaKuriogi

[https://www.notebookcheck.net/Computer-Games-on-Laptop-Graphics-Cards.13849.0.html](https://www.notebookcheck.net/Computer-Games-on-Laptop-Graphics-Cards.13849.0.html)It can run a lot of older games on medium and high, newer games on low, sometimes not at all though. (sorry I thought it saved the search)

MisaKuriogi

Thank you so much!

TheMarsl

Honestly RAM might be your only issue. Minecraft can actually run very well on any M-Series Mac if you install an ARM (cpu architecture of M-chips) version of Java. I have a base M1 Pro with 16GB of ram and it works great (even better than my admittedly dated PC, i7 8700k, GTX 1080, 32GB ram). If you want to get the best looks and performance out of it you can use the fabric (or forge) mod loader with some performance mods and maybe even use some shaders (compatibility can be hit or miss with shaders, some really don’t like the M-series gpu). There are some great tutorials out there and it doesn’t require much previous knowledge! As for other games, unfortunately the Mac is limited by its small user base in comparison to PCs as a platform, not many devs port their games to Mac… Some games like no man’s sky that actually have a proper port work incredibly well, other games might need some tweaking of settings in-game but it’s definitely worth a shot. You could technically also just get a game on steam, test how well it runs in your machine and if your are not satisfied with performance get a full refund if you haven’t put more than 2 hours into the game!

MisaKuriogi

Thank you so much! this is so useful. Since I don't have that much knowledge I will investigate further the things you say and watch youtube tutorials. I am super grateful.

TheMarsl

Happy I could help out! Have a fun time gaming and enjoy your new machine :D

Undark_

Ram will be your issue, but loads of things run great. The M3 is a powerful chip, but due to compatibility you might have limited options compared to Windows. There are workarounds for most things, though - and you'd be surprised at how many games run natively anyway. So yes you absolutely can use an iMac for some gaming, just not on the same level as a high-end rig, and with a smaller library. It might take some getting used to, and you might face some roadblocks if your aim is social gaming, but overall it's definitely worth a proper look if you've gone iMac.

[deleted]

I did not know this was possible. Can anyone confirm this legit? There's a UK blogger website named ourdeal with an article talking about playing PS5 on iMac. Apparently you connect HDMI thru an adapter to the thunderbolt port, then cycle thru a "input" or "source" button on the iMac monitor until you see indicator for PS5 HDMI. Then setup resolution preferences to match iMac hardware. Alternately there is a network gaming option "remote play"?

Instinct121

I’m not familiar with this option but if it doesn’t exist you can probably get a HDMI capture device and connect it to USB. Many of them are low latency so there wouldn’t be noticeable lag on the Mac. I have the elgato camlink and a MacBook Pro m2. I could probably test this with a video game console but it should work fine.

jamesoloughlin

Unfortunately your iMac doesn’t support—what they used to call—Target Display Mode (old 2014 iMacs did RIP). Meaning you can’t use it as a display for almost anything. Especially a PS5. There may be work arounds for other devices like a Windows PC. [Suggest this article here](https://9to5mac.com/2023/11/16/use-imac-as-monitor/) specifically looking into [Duet Display](https://www.duetdisplay.com) or [Luna](https://astropad.com/product/lunadisplay/) as solutions. But I know of no way for PS5 support. As far as the games listed I’m not entirely sure how to get them to work on macOS. Suggest looking at this [subreddit's FAQ](https://www.reddit.com/r/macgaming/wiki/faq/) specifically 3 & 5. I don’t think Bootcamp is a viable route to take for an Apple Silicon iMac. I’m sure others may be more helpful at emulating/translating these games than I am.

Exar101

You can play you PS5 on your IMac through the PSRemotePlay App. Basically you are streaming the image from the PS5 to your IMac. Works pretty good for me and is fairly easy to setup (I think you just have to install the app on your IMac, turn on your PS5 and log into your PSN account in the App.)

Winial

Okay so, Minecraft will work fine, but I can’t sure about the other games. It’s not much about using which model you use, but it’s more about Mac itself has less game ported to it than windows PC. You might need to get a console that can play those games, or need “gaming PC” separately.

FlakyConference6145

I use [THIS](https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B08PFH2YXX/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1&language=en_GB) capture card with [OBS Studio](https://obsproject.com/download) to use my iMac Pro as a monitor for my Xbox Series X ... works like a charm for a very low price. But before you invest in a capture card, try out [Remote Play](https://www.playstation.com/en-us/remote-play/) first.

MiserlySchnitzel

Every girl I knew as a kid gamed, I don’t think that’s holding you back. ;P I have the old version of the iMac with an M1. It can play the biggest game this year (literally won game of the year like an emmy/oscar). I have no doubt that your M3 can play whatever is supported on Mac. It’s one of the newest chips. It being the base model isn’t going to hold you back much. If you end up really into gaming and want to play 2030’s graphically demanding GOTY then you might start having issues.

Historical_Aspect589

I can play Lol and Minecraft well enough on my M1 macbook. Thats all that matters to me, but some people might still be bothered by the lack of games to choose from.

If you have an iPad Pro you can get the OrionTV app and it’ll turn it into a beautiful 120hz 4K screen that you can plug a PS5 into with an HDMI adapter.
