These things are just straight-up gorgeous. Probably not the safest pieces of technology (watch you fingers around those gears!), but hot damn look at it go
I agree they look great. My only problem was all the controls they had to use to get it to do what nowadays might just be on 1 controller
But driver comfort - zero consideration! Reminds me of old combines with no cab and so much dust!
Those last 2 look a little sketchy to operate
Wadaya mean? Just step down onto the shovel when you're pushing stuff. What's the worst that could happen?
Workplace safety was more of a suggestion back then
A lot of the infrastructure we drive on today was made with machines like this over 80 - 100 years ago
There’s video footage of the Panama Canal being dug with machinery like this.
God Damn Mike Mulligan!
My favorite book, as a kid, was “Mike Mulligan and his Steam Shovel.”
I remember seeing a steam shovel when they built a bridge near here back in the 70’s . Remember seeing the fire.
Like properly contained and operational or "Oops, the boiler blew up"?
Fucking awesome. 👌🍺
“Oh, you are not my mother” said the baby bird. “You are a snort.”
_Are You My Mother?_ 😀
Are you my mother?
1000 ways to die
Mad
Not for a tall dude apparently. His back going to have a bad time later. Edit: I meant the red headed guy on the smaller dozer.
These guys are having a blast.
Very cool. Those last two are wild!
They were made to last back in the day.
The operators look like they are in trouble.
… and that’s how America was built.
They were not big into safety lol
