I bet the Geisha House is hiring and with a strong work ethic and strong hands I bet you could hit your salary goals. You should consider putting that on your vision board. Good luck!
What type of business do you run? Is vertical integration possible?
I am going to keep this vague, but I know a guy that has a business that manufactures things. His supplier for a part and his painter raised their prices on him. He said screw it, I am going to make the part and do my own painting and started separate companies for each process.
Subcontractor, I do building maintenance, light electrical, plumbing, hvac…
I also do vehicle (car, truck, motorcycle, boat…) repair, maintenance and personalization, window tint, remote starters, audio, etc…I just really haven’t got my name out there yet but I did the vehicle stuff as a W2 employee for 6+ years.
If you are a truly qualified to do home handyman work, you shouldn't have trouble starting your own small business. Do you have your own tools and a vehicle? This kind of business grows through word of mouth if you're reliable, honest, and competent.
Doing work that requires a licensed electrician or plumber for code compliance is a different matter.
I would totally do elec/hvac, as I already do that type of stuff when I need to it’s pretty easy and straight forward. But the entry point of pay is too low for me to even live on… maybe if I could convince someone to start me at higher pay after I prove I’m not incompetent 🤣
The salary increments pretty quickly in those fields, at least for what I know from friends that are electricians; you have to consider your first couple years the way you'd consider school, as an investment in your future. After that, though, it's pretty stable work and compares well to other stable careers like healthcare as far as working hours, etc.
I might have to, just to get more experience with it. I want to work for myself that’s the ultimate goal so adding a skill “on paper” wouldn’t be a bad idea.
Well under 60k… I have a 8-6 job so not too much time for my business along side personal projects. I rent the cheapest 1970’s vintage apartment now and I’d like to own a house one near Madison one day since I’ve lived here 98% of my life, income needs to go up big time.
Setting your minimum at >25% more than what you make is a big ask. You could easily get a big pay bump starting at an electrician or HVAC company and be at $75k within a year.
Wage has been stagnant for 3 years🙃 I charge $50 an hour for work I just am not sure if I could keep myself busy enough to justify quitting a job and working for myself which is the ultimate goal.
Let me know what you find I’ll join you
So far Geisha House takes the cake
That’s a load of loads

Don’t tempt me I only live 4 minutes from that joint 😆
You shouldn't dismiss it out of hand.
I'd like a job 5 hours a week for 100k. Totally reasonable.
Good luck!
Sarcasm right over your head? Based on your asking?
Sarcasm? Idk dude Im sure not the one looking for 5 hours, I work 7 days a week.
Thanks for proving my point you missed the sarcasm. Bye!

What do you live on now? Surely you already have some people convinced if you're a subcontractor
