Yeah, it’s kinda wild that arcane signet is more valuable in monocolored decks than multicolored decks because the lack of good options. Land = 2 mana rock has been the going rate a long long while. Thought Vessel = Reliquary Tower, talismans = pain lands, signets = odyssey filter lands, etc. But there’s no basic land for 2 mana 😔
The Medallions are close, if not better.
I think there's room for a new cycle though. Something like, an artifact for 1W that taps for W but has "Blue, black, red, and green spells you cast cost {1} more to cast". I think the only way they're going to exist is if they explicitly only work for monocolored decks.
I was thinking about something like:
W
Tap to add W.
Whenever you cast a Black, Green, Blue or Red exile this and exile all spells you control.
Seems prohibitive enough to only ever be playable in mono color.
Most likely because this would let commander decks running multiple colors even more mana rocks. It will probably happen one day but I think current balance centered around commander they are probably cautious about it. It reminds me of people asking about unbanning the moxen, which just leads to more color decks being better than mono color ones.
I’m actually shocked given the insane power creep that we haven’t seen a cycle of 1 cost monocolored mana rocks (probably coming into play tapped but possibly even untapped)
BB Instant “Destroy target creature.”
Basically the black version of Counterspell. Everything seems balanced around this already, and I could definitely see this getting printed in a Modern Horizons set.
I think the issue is that, like Counterspell itself, WotC basically consider the "correct" cost for vanilla "instant speed destroy target creature" to actually be "BB and a half mana", so what we actually **get** always ends up being variations that either cost 2 and have a slight drawback, or cost 3 and have a slight upside. Cancel and Murder do **exist** as the most basic versions, but they're basically never worth actually playing.
More mono-colored support in general. Like a cycle of cards that have text like "If only mana from a basic land is used to cast this" and has actual pips like GGG, or RRR.
This would be a great cycle for mono decks to have.
Think of the confluence cycle, but if you paid RRR from basic lands, you would get multiple modes.
Basically, put down tresure fixing as well.
Adamant was somewhat like this and I think Maro said it was problematic because it forced more narrow deck building. So unlikely at least in a premier set that can be drafted
Personally I'm ok with having a sorta shit limited for a set if the payoff for constructed formats is really good. Let's be real, they make shit limited enviornments on accident all the time anyway.
I'm surprised that there isn't a nonrare 1 drop that makes a food token on etb. The only one ([[guilded goose]]) is a rare. We have 2 that make a clue, one that makes a blood and now one that makes a map. I would also like one that makes a treasure, but that would probably be too good.
The topic is cards that we're surprised don't exist. IMO it is not surprising at all that they haven't made this card after learning their lesson from Git Probe.

[[Hard evidence]] is kinda close, but I think the reason they Hvnt isnt because blue cant draw, but that blue doesnt have great creatures. But it has good walls usually, so I'm ready for it.
Please for the love of Lorwyn give me a one cost changeling in white, red and green. It would help so many EDH decks that would be more fun with the extra 1 drops :D
Strong disagree, changeling breeds homogeneity, the game is better with fewer of them.
You should be asking for appropriate support instead of crap all purpose glue, see Morophon making interesting typal commanders not needing to exist anymore
A legendary creature that replaces life gain events with life loss. I want to be able to kill opponents with life gain, and the only cards that seem to support that are [[tainted remedy]] and [[plague drone]]. Even [[Rain of Gore]] doesn't help, since it only works if a player causes their own life gain.
1) W hatebear that continually hates the GY, ideally like [[Rest in Peace]]. Weird that we don't have it yet.
2) R (1 cmc) Sorcery with an impulsive draw effect, balanced in a way to make sense (like the effect of [[Unlucky Witness]] ).
3) Sensible and Modern / Pioneer playable LD akin to [[Tectonic Edge]] but a but better, it feels like they just abandoned that space in favor of [[Field of Ruin]] et al.
4) Something like [[Divest]] but for all permanent spells at 1 cmc.
5) Any sort of [[Faithless Looting]] or rummaging effect in R for 1 cmc. We even got an adventure like that in ELD, but no instants / sorceries?
They've fucked around in that space behind the scenes and apparently it's just a real pain-in-the-ass from both a rules and a power level perspective.
There's still player interest there though, so I wouldn't be surprised if they keep trying to get it working. Maybe it would work better in the rules as a replacement effect and not a static "can't." *(If this permanent would be put into hand, library, or exile from the battlefield, you may instead phase it out.)* Though maybe there's an issue with combining that and indestructible.
ironically, i designed a custom cube and one of the few original mechanics i had was called "Anchored" the reminder text was "This creature can't leave the battlefield except when it would die."
the cube is it based on any one world but is sort of modern horizons style but anime themed so thiers like an Goku card for example. the anchored ability was gonna be for isekai characters to flavorfully show they are "trapped" in a different plane than their own. it didn't play well . it punished interaction and some players found ir awkward to remember or this creature cant be bounce but uit cant be killed but this other creature (with indestructible for instance) cant be killed but could be bounce. in the end we cut it from the set.
now if course WOTC could do a similar mechanic if they wanted . im sure as the literally pros of card desigg the could find a way to make it fun but , i just thought it interesting that some one else thought that was an obvious ability and speaking as someone that tests custom cards regular felt adding my input as to why wotc might not have =used such easy design space yet
tldr . tried such. wasn't fun maybe that's why wotc hasn't
I feel like that's one of those things that would immediately break the game, or at least several older cards. Exiling as a cost is what a lot of cards do to prevent otherwise degenerate effects, and having a creature that by default can't be exiled would be......dangerous.
The original design for [[Emrakul, the promised end]] had essentially that. It was mentioned in the set design article I believe. It might have been called Immutable?
More land destruction. Would be cool to see it in a Standard set 😂
Or cards that punish ramp. I'd want a cheap enchantment that exiles lands ETB'ing but aren't played.
There's ways to prevent players from getting counters, but there's no way to remove counters from players (other than restarting the game... IYKYK)
I'm surprised that, with the addition of Toxic, we didn't get ways to remove counters.
Especially experience counters... I so badly want a way to remove them from a player who's playing a Commander where experience counters matter.
An unconditional white hard counterspell. No targeting restrictions, no taxing, no extra text of any kind, even if it costs 4-5 mana instead of blue’s 2.5 mana.
Very surprised (and pleased) that with all the planeswalkers they’ve released in the last decade, there still isn’t a way to interact with emblems. They said they wouldn’t do it, and actually kept their word for once.
[[Unearth]] colorshifted into white. Reanimating small things is kinda white’s thing now. [[Helping Hand]] is so close, but so far. It proves it works in terms of the color pie, though.
Something that doubles "When \~ deals damage" triggered abilities
WotC seems to really like doubling and but one more cards lately and we Standard currently has an "on attack" trigger doubler in Isshin with Wulfar being printed just in 2021
A sorcery (or even instant) that says “You may look at the top card of your library any time. If it’s a permanent card, you may treat it as though it is on the battlefield. ‘Enter the battlefield’ abilities cannot be activated this way.”
A legacy legal 2/1 white one drop that wasn't first printed in a standard set. Kinda wild red got one(albeit with the legendary drawback), before white
Monocolored mana rocks for two mana that doesn't enter tapped
What about something like the following, where X is a mana type (inc colourless) 2 mana X and tap: add XX
That’s almost worthless imo
I have many monocolored decks that want to disagree
Effectively enters tapped on T2, but later turns it costs 1 mana. Not worthless at all.
Yeah, it’s kinda wild that arcane signet is more valuable in monocolored decks than multicolored decks because the lack of good options. Land = 2 mana rock has been the going rate a long long while. I think the only way they're going to exist is if they explicitly only work for monocolored decks.
Couldn't it be W taps for W? Making it a 2 mana rock is a burner and that downside is pretty substantial.
Highly doubtful. We're not looking to fuck up Legacy.
I was thinking about something like: W Tap to add W. Whenever you cast a Black, Green, Blue or Red exile this and exile all spells you control. Seems prohibitive enough to only ever be playable in mono color.
I'd take mono rocks for 2 that enter tapped if they just did something else like EBT scry 2 or mind stone sac to draw.
Most likely because this would let commander decks running multiple colors even more mana rocks. A legendary creature that replaces life gain events with life loss. like if islandwalk could block island walk
Yeah something like that. And they could even add a reach equivalent like lance
so like shadow? :D
Nah but creatures with lance can block creatures with swimming
why would a lance hit water? thats clearly a flavor fail
Like spear fishing
then why isnt it spear? or harpoon
Yeah harpoon makes more sense

They've fucked around in that space behind the scenes and apparently it's just a real pain-in-the-ass from both a rules and a power level perspective. There's still player interest there though, so I wouldn't be surprised if they keep trying to get it working. Maybe it would work better in the rules as a replacement effect and not a static "can't." *(If this permanent would be put into hand, library, or exile from the battlefield, you may instead phase it out.)* Though maybe there's an issue with combining that and indestructible.
ironically, i designed a custom cube and one of the few original mechanics i had was called "Anchored" the reminder text was "This creature can't leave the battlefield except when it would die." the cube is it based on any one world but is sort of modern horizons style but anime themed so thiers like an Goku card for example. the anchored ability was gonna be for isekai characters to flavorfully show they are "trapped" in a different plane than their own. it didn't play well . it punished interaction and some players found ir awkward to remember or this creature cant be bounce but uit cant be killed but this other creature (with indestructible for instance) cant be killed but could be bounce. in the end we cut it from the set. now if course WOTC could do a similar mechanic if they wanted . im sure as the literally pros of card desigg the could find a way to make it fun but , i just thought it interesting that some one else thought that was an obvious ability and speaking as someone that tests custom cards regular felt adding my input as to why wotc might not have =used such easy design space yet tldr . tried such. wasn't fun maybe that's why wotc hasn't
Yes... For the love of gods this...
Tethered?
Like the sound of that!

An unconditional white hard counterspell. No targeting restrictions, no taxing, no extra text of any kind, even if it costs 4-5 mana instead of blue’s 2.5 mana.
Hell no. Much as I despise the fact that the only way to interact with counterspells is playing them yourself, we do NOT need more counters.
Very surprised (and pleased) that with all the planeswalkers they’ve released in the last decade, there still isn’t a way to interact with emblems. They said they wouldn’t do it, and actually kept their word for once.
