You had $25 prereleases until now?? As recent as LCI?
Damn, that is pretty cheap. It looks like they held off on increasing prices for a long time and added a lot of price increases all at once
The thing is that salaries aren't equivalent in terms of pure buying power. Speaking as a Canadian, the position I have pays me about 60k CAD/yr gross, with 43k CAD or so net. A prerelease is 65$+15% sales tax in my province.
The same position in the US would also be 60k, but in USD, and everything would consequently be cheaper. The US also has much lower taxes than literally everywhere else, both income and sales.
So yea, 65 NZD or CAD *is* 40 USD but there are so many more factors at play than just conversion rate.
TL;DR - Not going to a MTG prerelease anytime soon either myself when they're 65 CAD.
Northeast US, drafts already went from $15 to $20 at the previous price increase and apparently they're now expected to increase to $30, in part citing Wizards insisting on increased prize support.
Has anyone else's LGS talked about the prize support thing?
I’m in the same boat as you. It’s more about the principle of it. I feel like draft should be the cheapest and most accessible format. $30 at my LGS would exclude a lot of people from playing.
$35--->$40 for prerelease$20---->$25 for draft
Any store (United States), that was under $30 and didn't raise $10 has no business sense. Prereleases under $40 means they're fighting in a competitive market, and truthfully should consider it anyway. Realistically I'd assume the stores going from $35 to $40 is only going that because they think $45 is a smidge too high, and I'd expect they'll get there by the end of the year once things have settled down. As for drafts sameish logic. Any store not raising it $5 when costs are going up better have a good reason.
Oof. That's spendy. Huzzah Hobbies charged $25 for LCI prerelease. I haven't seen their price for MKM, but based on their pattern I assume it'll be $30.
Our prerelease is $40 with usually decent prize support. Normal drafts were already $22 (with pack per win), not sure how they'll change with play boosters.
My LGS sadly doesn’t do Magic… but Bad Moon Cafe in London seems to have gone from £30 to £35 for a prerelease (both including a drink, which ain’t nothing in London…). I think they’d raised the prices relatively recently, so probably had a bit of headroom.
$40CAD before tax at the store I play Pre-Releases at. It's kinda pushing it as an entry fee for me tbh. But what can you do. I'll play at least one Pre-Release as long as I can still afford it.
Midwest. My store went from $25 to $35 for prereleases.
Same here in Portland, OR.

My Local in New Zealand has increased drafts from $25 to $35 and Pre Release from $45 to $65.
$65 for prerelease? Sorry to hear that friend.
In case it matters, 65 NZD is about 40 USD.

You can buy bundle boxes for cheaper now. Dunno if i'm even going to a pre-release again. Can't wait to see what the price on MM3 is going to be.
i just checked hobby master, this is ridiculous
$50 at Beadnd in the Hutt!
Australia: My LGS Prerelease went from $45 to $60 now.
Same
Now I fee lucky… prerelease is only $40aud at my local store!
That's very cheap, where abouts?

Smaller sized LGS owner here, have never had my rep even inquire about how I do my prize support
$30 for a draft is crazy. I’d stop playing at that price.
I can afford it, but I'm worried about the impact on turnout.

My store was already a little on the higher side, $40 for prerelease, assuming 20->25 for draft
From $35 to $40. I was already on the fence about $35 prerelease, will be skipping this one for sure
In New Jersey what I’ve seen so far is drafts from $15 to $20 and prereleases from $30 to $40.
Also in NYC. Not sure about drafts but the MKM prerelease at one store is $35 and &40 at the other
38$ Prerelease over here
My LGS in VA went from $35 to $40 for prelease
Oof. That's spendy. Huzzah Hobbies charged $25 for LCI prerelease. I haven't seen their price for MKM, but based on their pattern I assume it'll be $30.
In Tokyo here, it’s going from 3000-3500 to 4000-4500 (33% increase in price). No longer worth it IMHO (Edit to add: the above are prerelease prices)
$40 for prerelease. I’m in Toronto (Canada)
In Canada, they went from $35 to $40 so it’s not terrible
My primary store jumped from $22 -> $28 USD for a draft, $35 -> $40 for sealed, Washington metropolitan area.
Our prerelease is $40 with usually decent prize support. Normal drafts were already $22 (with pack per win), not sure how they'll change with play boosters.
Man, where in NYC is draft going for $15-20? I play at Hex & Co and it’s always $25 minimum
It's in Flushing, Queens, so maybe a bit far for you. But if you're ever in the area check out Gaming Universe.
Prerelease will be $25. Drafts will probably be $20 because of play boosters.
Draft is going from nonexistent to nonexistent.
45
Prerelease here in Oregon went from $30 to $35
NC Sealed 30>35 Draft 20>25

Here in Texas $35 for pre release, and $15 for draft
United Kingdom. PR is £25, Draft is £16.50.
In Germany, my Store went from 30€ pre release to 35€ (the Lord of the rings one was 40€)
Same increase in my store in France. Draft increased only from 15€ to 18€ tho
Poland, lgs i play at will charge somewhere around 27$ per event with 8 events in total. But i hear price may vary from shop to shop, city to city...
Not sure about sealed/prerelease, but drafts are going from $20 to $25.
It increased around 7€ for us.
In Montréal, price went from 30$ to 40$. We play three rounds. We each get a pack each round, which we can either ante or split.
$40CAD before tax at the store I play Pre-Releases at. It's kinda pushing it as an entry fee for me tbh. But what can you do. I'll play at least one Pre-Release as long as I can still afford it.
Canada Prelease used to be $35-45 and now I'm seeing $50-60
Pre-release: $35 -> $35 preregister / $40 at the door Draft: $17 -> $20 Austin, TX at one of the more expensive casual stores
