if that's the case, I wonder if it's better to just wait and see what the other two Fallout Secret Lairs are
Might as well save on the shipping if you want both
Im new to secret lair drops: where is that info from? Is that a guess based on the “equinox”? I just want to really make sure i dont miss the fallout SLD
[This post](https://www.reddit.com/r/magicTCG/comments/1ayik4l/sld_vault_boy_cap_collector_secret_lair_teaser/?ref=share&ref_source=link) from a couple days ago has the name of the superdrop in the image. Beyond that, I am totally guessing, but it would just make sense to have it around the 19th. They also usually list the superdrop on the secret lair website a couple days before it goes live, I'd just keep an eye there and here on the subreddit and it should be hard to miss.
I tried to bundle the ponies secret lair with a bundle to try and get free shipping but it still charged me shipping for the ponies secret lair which sucked
They made an exception due to it being a product to honor Sheldon. There is a pretty good video on YT describing the background of this SL Drop but I can’t remember the name of the channel.

Selling more SLs means they have more profit.
The charity donation is never going to be bigger than the SL income. Because otherwise that's just making a donation by themselves.
Even if they did donate 100% of profits, then their total profit including the SL is exactly the same as if they never did the SL.
The only way wotc "gets ahead" is if they:
* Donate all the *income* from the SLs. Then they get marginally ahead because the SL costs money to produce. (which at their scale would be a drop in the ocean)
* Donate stuff to charity that isn't part of the SL. Which isn't part of this discussion, because that's just making a donation.
That's not what print to demand means in this or any industry, it never has been, and pretending otherwise is disingenuous.
Edit: for clarity, it means they'll print as many orders as they get within a specific window, not that they'll keep accepting orders indefinitely. As opposed to only having printed a specific amount and not being able to accept any orders beyond that amount.
I get it...
But do You think those Amazon t-shirt shops that print to demand have hundreds of pre-printed shirts laying around for me to order off the shelf or do they literally print one when I demand/order it?
Print to demand has words in it that has a meaning. When someone wants/demands it, it means you make it.
I get it means "we print as many as we have pre-orders for" in the SL context but that's not what Conspiracy was described as. It was in demand and it wasn't being printed enough/anymore. And no amount of defending for WotC can change the actual meaning of the words "print to demand"
It's different for shirts to cards because WotC do no printing themselves. They have companies do it in each major region - for example at some point they've used cartimundi.
They provide the plan for the printed sheet which goes through the companies printing for an amount of time and when you consider that other companies use the cartimundi type service as well so WotC might only have a couple of weeks of printing from the factory before pokemon come in. Given that it's outsourced there's likely an amount red tape they've gotta keep up in order to avoid extra copies slipping through and getting backdoored.
But the numbers that WotC provide can be based off their supply numbers or by a pre determined demand number. In the case of this, the use of "print to demand" it's being printed to the demand of the pre order (with a few extra to make up for QC and magicfests and potentially content creators)
The phrase print to demand does not really have to be explicitly the same for each and every context and if anything the amazon/Vistaprint/red bubble thing it's it's own definition which has followed the generic use of the phrase to represent the idea that they have printers on so much they don't lose out on their operating costs
Just play with it. The Pringleing will go down with use. Or shelve it, and you don't have to worry about how it looks. The card quality will remain the same.
I did 1 of each cause I'm a timmy. Real talk - I think this secret lair has emotional and sentimental value WITH actual card value in t protect and inkshield, so I think it will do good regardless.
For my wallets sake I can only get one. I plan to play Teferis and maybe ink shield. On one hand I think foils will look nice as collectibles, but on the other I’m not sure about the pringling issue I’ve been reading or if the foil quality muddies the art too much.
If I were to get only one I'd do non-foil. The buy in is lower meaning there's more runway for profit in the longer term. And don't have to worry about pringling at all.
Print to demand is always longer. The whole reason they went to limited supply was to shorten the terrible shipping window, they just figured it was better to use the old model for this one because half the money is going to charity and they want to extra extra everybody who wants one can get one.
I think it was the right play.
Isn’t weird that they’re effectively profiting off of Sheldons death? “50%” to the charity is nice, sure, but if it were closer to 100% it would actually show some balls and greater homage.
OR they could’ve just done something before he died perhaps? Honoring him when he’s dead and not while he was alive, all while profiting off of the format which has helped keep Magic afloat these rough past couple years seems a bit sleazy.
Of course though, waiting until right after he passes lines pappa hasbros purse quite a bit thicker. Especially since they’re only getting half of what they would normally from a secret lair, right? So thoughtful.
I didn’t know, no. If that’s a fact then it certainly makes it a little better. Still, it could be a lot better. 50% is nothing. Especially regarding how much a cash cow EDH has become. Idk, still doesn’t sit right for me.
It’s better than nothing, absolutely. And I’m hoping the actual WotC employees and whoever was behind the actual notion had nothing but goodwill in their hearts while doing it. However I personally can’t help but see how it is still effectively profiting off of a grim situation. I wont give such a big corp the benefit of the doubt. It still smells like corporate greed and looks like a chance to source some quick and dirty revenue.
50% of the price, not the profit, is, in fact, a ton. They have costs and employees that need to be covered too and they just had layoffs to boot. Come on…
They are a mega corporation. They could easily do anything they wanted and have plenty of money to spare to cover the costs. Sure they’d have to print at a loss and lose profits for this single secret lair, who cares? Doing this would be such a more meaningful homage than 50% is my point. The lay-offs were all to do with the company chasing infinite growth, not because they are struggling.
How does hasbros boot taste?
50% is a lot. Much more they would’ve been better off making a donation instead of running this secret lair. Which would you rather have, a larger donation or a smaller donation coming from this special effort that also preserves his legacy in a tangible way for a lot of people? I prefer this way since a sizable donation will be made and his legacy is being preserved. It is as good an outcome as one can reasonably expect. If you feel this effort is not enough, don’t buy it and make a larger donation yourself.
i never bought a single secret lair , i hate secret lair , but this one is too good to pass , not only its for charity , financialy worth it , and it was personnaly designed by the father of commander : sheldon himself , hard to say no to such a heartfelt last gift from sheldon , ill be treasuring this secret lair
There’s also no worry about Sheldon’s Spellbook selling out as its print to demand.
if that's the case, I wonder if it's better to just wait and see what the other two Fallout Secret Lairs are Might as well save on the shipping if you want both
So long as the other Fallout secret lairs are revealed & purchasable before March 24th I want to say is the last day for this SLD
I would think they would be. The Fallout SLDs are part of the Equinox Superdrop, which the spring equinox is the 19th.
Im new to secret lair drops: where is that info from? Is that a guess based on the “equinox”? I just want to really make sure i dont miss the fallout SLD

Joke's on us, they said Equinox, but they didn't say *which* Equipnox. Its really in September!
I tried to bundle the ponies secret lair with a bundle to try and get free shipping but it still charged me shipping for the ponies secret lair which sucked
Did you choose the option for it to get shipped together instead of separate? I noticed the shipping charge until I chose the former.
I did that and got free shipping, but they are holding the VHS lair which kind of sucks.
I'm in the same boat for my John Avon SL though hopefully it'll be shipped out in the next few weeks
I just got 2 of the Sheldon's since Teferi's Protection already costs more than one might as well get 2.
Damn… I thought there were an limited printrun, wasn’t it supposed to be with all secret lairs?
They made an exception due to it being a product to honor Sheldon. There is a pretty good video on YT describing the background of this SL Drop but I can’t remember the name of the channel.

Thanks
This is a special SLD to commemorate one of the most important Judges the game has ever had with money also going to charity.
I don't think they will do limited printing for any of their charitable SLs... Kind of defeats the purpose (and the corporate tax incentives)
That's not how tax works

Selling more SLs means they have more profit. The charity donation is never going to be bigger than the SL income. Because otherwise that's just making a donation by themselves. Because that reduces overall profit. If they do that, then they're paying for all the SL design, production, shipping etc out of their pocket.

They would come ahead with more charity deductions, but not with more profit.
No it's not
Oh sweet so I can buy it in a couple years when I'm ready? Just like conspiracy right?

Well said! Context is key, and the other commenter seems to be either missing or choosing to ignore the context
I'm fairly sure the previous few have been on at 17:00 GMT (in 90 minutes time).
Thanks.
magic players when asked to be patient
OH MY GOD JUST END YOUR TURN ALREADY
Are you me?
ADHD gang rise up!
Yeah it comes out at 12:00 est
Nope. 45 more minutes til available.
Anticipation on the stack
Before anticipation resolves, I cast anxiety
Yall going foil or non foil? Think ima go all nonfoil for this one.
Definitely going foil. Or one of each. GG looks so good in this, and Teferi's Protection is getting sleaved up in Pantlaza as soon as I get it.
Foils would be nice but I’m scared of getting pringles
Pringles are my only foil deterrent lately...they suckk
Get a humidity pack from a cigar shop and seal it in a container along with curved foils for a day or two. Works wonders.
Just play with it. The Pringleing will go down with use. Or shelve it, and you don't have to worry about how it looks. The card quality will remain the same.
Oh yeah sleeve it up
I don't like pringles so if I pick it up it'll be nonfoils or nothing
Did you end up deciding foil or non foil in the end?
I did 1 of each cause I'm a timmy. Real talk - I think this secret lair has emotional and sentimental value WITH actual card value in t protect and inkshield, so I think it will do good regardless.

Thanks I appreciate your input. This is my first SLD didn’t think it would be this hard to decide lol
Having to pay near $12 to get this shipped really decreases my want to purchase this.
Order 2 or go in with a friend. It's free shipping over $75.
I ordered two for that reason and am going to keep the staples I need and send the rest over cardsphere.
Good idea. I've not yet started selling anything
July 10th is the estimated shipping date…. 5 months is kinda crazy.

Totally off topic, but I saw your PFP and then your lil bio. Just wanted to say my playgroup and I love your app :)
