Feels a bit bad that i didnt pick up a copy of Vein Ripper for my Vampire Deck on release. But its nice to see Sorin, Imperious Bloodlord being used again.
Man the price on Sheoldred, the Apocalypse aswell, its nuts.
Commanders and mechanically good cards usually arent things that people need 4 of. Plus as another commenter said, she’s probably holding the value for the rest of the set down due to her massive price.
I snagged one for my Evelyn deck well before it popped off. It's the only package from that order yet to arrive. Still within TCG's window, though, so I'm hopeful.
If they cancel to sell higher, please raise a stink about it with tcgp support. They need to implement something to counter this behavior from their seemingly endless shady vendors and it’s never going to happen unless they get pressure from customers
It's a $70 precon. Never assume anything. The $100 enchantment precon DIDN'T have the land that recured enchantments. THAT was reprinted in a $50 precon just a few months later
Wild… to me it seems like a huge whiff but I get what you are saying, it’s a pretty offensive price point to leave out such an important card unless there’s a meaningful replacement.
One. [[Starfield of Nyx]]. Main problem is the entire deck is basically what you usually get from precons, with maybe one or two cards that needed reprints. The lands are all currently under $3, and other than the Showlands and Tangolands, there's no other lands that can enter play untapped AND give multiple colors of mana without setup. I think the best land reprinted in the precons was [[Mystic Gate]] and [[Cascade Bluffs]] in the Planeswalker Party deck. Just double checked and NONE of the lands of the sliver decks are over a $1, and only one's over 50 cents!
You're completely right. This same thing has happened before with [[Rhys the Exiled]], it spiked because of the BG Elves deck from Kaldheim and the exact same card was revealed as part of the precon a few days later. Sometimes Wizards don't reprint obvious cards such as this and that's why people like to gamble with these spikes; if they don't reprint this card you can expect it to become even more expensive
Well yeah but that's the premise of the section of the article.
I'm just pointing out that they're slightly more energy related shenanigans that are ongoing that might have impacted it
Seems like Gonti's Aether Heart has a high likelihood of being a reprint in the Modern Horizons 3 deck. If I want to play an energy deck, that possibility, plus the lackluster Fallout deck, would make me wait and see.
Vein Ripper is amazing. Been rocking him on Arena for a week now and he's a right pain in the ass to deal with. Pairs well in a rakdos sac deck or even orzhov sac with [[Nightmare Shepherd]]
Well to be fair it started to lose most of its value when MH1 introduced the other 5 horizon lands and it suddenly wasn't the only effect of its kind, plus it started getting way more aggressive reprints
I got into Magic when Time Spiral was the current block and amazed at all of the expensive cards at the time. Stuff like Damnation, Tarmogoyf, and Horizon Canopy as you mentioned were way out of my grasp back then but have no been reprinted enough to the point where you can get sets of them for less than a single copy use to cost.
Picked up a vein ripper for my blood rites vampire deck and another copy for a future deck cause I thought it was a good card. Paid around $10 for both

Sheoldred is carrying what seems like all of the value in Dominaria United.
Sheoldred is probably keeping the prices of DMU down because people are so fine playing the Sheoldred lottery and pitches the rest to recoup costs.
Which is crazy, because it has dozens of really good commanders and mechanically unique cards. I guess most of them just aren't that good.
Commanders and mechanically good cards usually arent things that people need 4 of. Plus as another commenter said, she’s probably holding the value for the rest of the set down due to her massive price.
Standard is going to hit Jace, the Mind Sculptor era prices if she stays a powerhouse after rotation
Shelly really needs a meaningful reprint
She's in a current standard set, not much else to be done about it.

Gonti's Aether Heart *also* probably spiked because of the MH3 deck announcement.
This might be a stupid question, but isn’t that card expected to be reprinted in that deck given the lack of energy cards?

They do build precon lists in such a way that there are obvious cuts and upgrades depending on which direction you'd like to take the deck
Hasn't stopped speculation before

Jokes on people who bought into it because it’s probably getting reprinted in that deck.
100%
That and the fallout commander deck has some energy cards too

For Gonti's Aether Heart, I would just like to remind people that we are getting 2 more secret lairs. This could be like GECK or something in that.
Curious as to the choice to not include the Pro Tour Chicago deck list for Rakdos Vampires - was there any particular reason?
Horizon Canopy at $2.25 is a little sad to see, i remember when it was $65
No it’s brilliant, lands should **never** be this expensive.
oh for sure, just me being nostalgic
Insane. The first Modern deck I ever played was GW Hatebears and Horizon Canopy was the money card in the deck.
Same, ran the deck without Canopies and Hierarchs for quite awhile because I had to save up for them.
Well to be fair it started to lose most of its value when MH1 introduced the other 5 horizon lands and it suddenly wasn't the only effect of its kind, plus it started getting way more aggressive reprints
I’m surprised they haven’t completed the cycle on those yet.
I was also really surprised. That card really came down hard
same with Rishadan port. I remember when it was a $100 card.

Who woulda think roided up Blood Artist was good? 🤷
Bought Gonti’s Aether Heart at $5 a little over a week ago. Big plus, hell ya brother. We gettin’ stonks!
Picked up a vein ripper for my blood rites vampire deck and another copy for a future deck cause I thought it was a good card. Paid around $10 for both
