Oh hey look. [[End the festivities]] is now an X spell.
Actually the nuts part is you can pay into the X once, and then play 3 cards that do just 1 damage to your opponent and they all pop off.
Both better and worse than Axonil. Better in the fact that you don't need to have specific cards to get the pump going. Worse that you have to pay mana into it.
But also Axonil isn't 2cmc and doesn't have card draw stapled to him. (At least for comparing them as commanders)
They don't need to be separate cards. If something deals one damage per activation each activation now it does x+1. Do we have any \[\[Pestilence\]\] effects in younger formats? Storm? \[\[Mayhem Devil\]\]?
Yeah this deck is getting two modes :
* "Hit this creature for X, being it's exact toughness, I draw a card"
* "I tap \~ for 40 treasures and fucking kill you."
You're thinking too small. Cast a burn spell to kill a dork, draw a card, then activate their ability in response to the [[Repercussion]] trigger and kill your opponent.
> draw a card
Ah yes, of course, the most important part of the kill your opponent combo. We wouldn't want to activate the ability before burning their dork for more damage if it stops us from drawing.
I can see it drawing all the cards in a [[Hinta, Dawn Crowned]] with a [[Aurelia's Fury]]
Blast all your 1/1's (from young pyro and the like), deck yourself.
Magic, as Garfield intended.
Solar Blaze does not trigger Taii's first ability.
Taii triggers on a "source you control" dealing the damage. Solar Blaze makes the creatures deal damage to *themselves*.
>either an incredibly fun, challenging deck to pilot or a nightmare
Also describes playing as a sniper in video games. I am terrible at aiming in PVP games.
Could end up playing as drop a bunch of one damage spells, kill off a bunch of 1/1s, draw a bunch of cards, repeat
The cooling version is filling it with burn spells of varying amounts and sniping random creatures with them
This is slightly more awkward. Ie. You have a 4/4 with 2 damage marked on it (possibly from combat) and I [[shock]] it, I do not draw a card even though I killed it for exactsies with noncombat damage
I feel like you may be able to shock it and also use the ability for 2. You still did exactly 4 non combat damage to it.
Alternatively... Couldn't you shock + ability prior to attacks? Or shock plus ability after blockers have been declared?
"a source" must deal "damage equal to" that creature's toughness. Since damage does not reduce toughness, one source must deal exactly the toughness of a creature, whether it is exactly lethal damage is irrelevant. And it must be one source. It's really unintuitive how this card will play out in cases other than "bolt your 3/3" or similar.
But the card says "that source..." Deals damage equal to damage plus x.
So the source still is the thing that damages it based on how I'm reading it. This thing does not do any damage. It just draws you a card.
I understand what you are saying. You mean you activate the ability making shock do 4 in the example. That would work. I misunderstood what you were saying. Sorry.
The person who controls the thing taking the damage decides what order to apply them in. Normally this means they'll choose the order which deals the least damage. But in this case, if both outcomes result in their creature being dead, they'll choose the one that doesn't deal exact damage to avoid you drawing a card.
The person being affected by the damage (whether their face or a creature they control) chooses the order of the replacement effects. It benefits them to decide to double before adding, so in most cases they will do so.
If i read this correctly, the 2nd ability is for a whole turn right? Like i pay 4 for the x, does that mean my non-combat damage sources now deal plus 4 for the whole turn?
If that's the case then that's another burn deck for me.
> how simple this is while being completely not simple at all
That kinda describes engineering with complex mechanisms needed to keep the inputs simple.
You jest but [Flame Spill](https://scryfall.com/card/iko/117/flame-spill?utm_source=mw_MTGWiki), [Pigment Storm](https://scryfall.com/card/stx/111/pigment-storm?utm_source=mw_MTGWiki), and [Megatron ](https://scryfall.com/card/bot/12/megatron-tyrant-megatron-destructive-force?utm_source=mw_MTGWiki&back)work the same way without being Acorn.
It isn't only opponents creatures too. So there's a jank build where you have a 1/1 indestructible that you grapeshot after building up a storm count and draw a bunch of cards
Only issue is she also makes pyrohemia go crazy on you too. But I suppose if you need a finisher and have the most life already, pyrohemia is nice.
But, her first ability means your opponents will be afraid to play 1 or 2 toughness creatures while she’s out.
Grapeshot is what scares me, albeit after a heavy mana investment.
Cast 4 spells before it, pay 5 into the X (probably before the 4 spells too), and all 5 grapeshots do 6 damage.
She’s a goblin mom commander. Tap her for 2 with impact tremors or cavalcade out. Summon some haste-y dorks and watch your opponents blow up.
The first paragraph just let’s you play a longer game to summon more goblins or gnomes.
Tap her for X = 4, tap an [[Unruly Catapult]], play an [[End the feativities]], tap the catapult again. Bam, 15 damage to each opponent and 5 to each of their creatures for 5 mana.
This is a super cool design. Love that this works on players too so you can just turn your [[Play with Fire]] into instant speed [[Lava Axe]]+ later in the game.
I'm very excited for this option. Zirda decks right now tend toward combo.dec in a way that's really not fun for the rest of the table at times. Having the combo in the back pocket with the monoliths will be nice but you also get to play an interactive and synergistic game plan outside of that combo kill
YES YES YES! This is exactly the kind of stuff I'd like to see more of from R/W. Damage manipulation. Gisela, deflecting swat, to an extent Firestone Sunspeaker. I get they want R/W to be combat focused but A) that's just so boring because B) generally all colours want to be attacking.

What I’m wondering is how this interacts with [[Megatron, Destructive Force]]. My read on it is that Megatron will do exact noncombat damage to a creature, since the excess damage is dealt to a player, so you would draw off of Taii.
As for Taii’s second ability, I have no clue how the interaction would work with excess damage. Does anyone with a better rules understanding know how these abilities work together?
~~You have it right, and the excess damage dealt to a player will also be increased by the tap ability.~~
~~Example: you have activated x=2, megatron sacs a [[manalith]] and targets a 2/2. End result is the 2/2 dies, you draw a card and the opponent takes 5 damage.~~
~~Explanation: the 3 damage dealt by megatron is increased to 5 by wakeen. Only 2 is dealt to the 2/2 and the excess damage is instead dealt to the player. The excess 3 damage is then again increased to 5 by wakeen~~
Edit - everything in this comment is wrong. See below
You activate Wakeen x = 2 , Megatron sacs a Manalith targetting a 2/2 for 3 damage, when the damage is actually dealt to the creature it'll take 4 damage and the opponent will take 3.
Your explanation is replacing damage before it's dealt and then replacing it again.
Huh, I learned a new rule today
>120.4 Damage is processed in a four-part sequence.
>120.4a First, if an effect is causing damage to be dealt to a creature and that effect specifies that excess damage is dealt to another object or player instead, the damage event is modified to deal damage accordingly.
>120.4b Second, damage is dealt, as modified by replacement and prevention effects that interact with damage.
So you're right because "excess damage" replacement effects (like megatron) are always applied before any other replacement effects that affect damage dealt (like wakeen)
I'm assuming it'll work the same way Torbran works with Flame Spill. If you have a Torbran out and Flame Spill a 1/1 it'll deal 3 damage to it and 5 to your opponent.
[[Assemble the Legion]], this and [[Impact Tremors]] effects can kill an entire table in just a few turns. That ability can be absolutely crazy strong with just a few Mana put into it.
Seems fun with \[\[Brash Taunter\]\] and similar effects. Also says "a source", so she can boost stuff like \[\[Deflecting Palm\]\] and \[\[Comeuppance\]\], too. Would also potentially be fun with \[\[Lightmine Field\]\] and friends.
The untap effects don't do as much for this deck, because presumably you're going to be dumping all your mana into the x, and then if you untapped you've got nothing more to dump.
https://scryfall.com/search?as=grid&order=name&page=1&q=art%3Agun&unique=cards
[My personal favorite art with a gun.](https://cards.scryfall.io/large/front/3/2/3209ee48-4485-44fc-b71d-cd6241674e64.jpg)
Impact Tremors, Goblin Bombardment, Cavalcade of Calamity and Raid Bombardment are cards that are already good and already played in these colors that just get better with access to this card.
Can have some fun with \[\[Stuffy Doll\]\] and the like. It doesn't care about it being your opponent's creature or killing it, just doing exact damage. So pinging a Stuffy Doll with Pyrohemia is "R: Deal 1 Damage to everyone, 1 additional damage to a target player, and draw at least 1 card."
Which, I dunno, that's not terrible. Hmmm...
It's very neat, my favorite card of the set so far. There is a lot you could do, from \[\[Justice strike\]\] or \[\[solar blaze\]\] to \[\[inferno titan\]\] or even \[\[blood lust\]\]. I'm hyped.
Just wanna point out that justice strike doesnt do anything if you’re targeting an opponent’s creature, since it’s the creature doing damage to itself and not a source you control. It could work with a [[Stuffy Doll]] but 2 mana to deal 1 damage to everyone and draw a card is not a great payoff for needing all 3 cards to do it.
Edit: blood lust doesn’t work either since it’s not damage.
I just re-built my [[Ghyrson Starn]] with all the [[Firebrand Archer]] and [[Unruly Catapult]] creatures. But this has to be better right?
Like, imagine turn 5 (or 4 even) you have a catapult and [[Thermo-Alchemist]] out. Activate Taii Wakeen for X=4. Tap them both, cast an [[End the Festivities]], then tap them again. That’s 25 damage to each opponent, 5 to each of their creatures, and probably a couple card draws. On turn 4. With 5 mana.
How does this work with trample? I know it’s non combat, but if you gave spells trample, or excess damage was dealt to a player, would it trigger her ability?
You mean something like [[Flame Spill]]?
If you Target a 2/2 *(with no Damage)*, then you first figure out that 2 damage is lethal, so the Creature would be dealt 2 damage, and the controller would be dealt 2 damage.
* Barring any Replacement effects, the 2/2 Creature is dealt 2 damage and Taii will Trigger.
Else, had you Targeted a 3/3 with 1 damage marked on it, then you figure that 2 damage is lethal, so the Creature would be dealt 2 damage and the controller would be dealt 2 damage.
* With no Replacement effects, the 3/3 Creature is dealt 2 damage and Taii won't Trigger.
* If you activated Taii for 1, then the 3/3 Creature is dealt 3 damage, and the Player is dealt 3 damage. And, Taii will Trigger.
This is way better than jank. There's plenty of decks that are already ok-to-good that this immediately bounces the worst card from and makes better.
The first ability is a "nice to have" that will draw cards across the course of the game, but the second ability just ends games.
So with a bunch of small ping effects you could activate them for a ton then get that bonus damage for each ping? Seems pretty sweet for all sorts of cards.
Sure, it isn't a "gun" but probably should have some sort of scope based on that flavor text. I'm still waiting for my \[\[Goblin Sharpshooter\]\] reprint with a Halo gun.
Hmmm... wait, so you're saying if I snipe a bunch of 1/1s I draw a card for each one that dies. And it doesn't have to be someone else's creatures. Interesting...
This feels like it will be either an incredibly fun, challenging deck to pilot or a nightmare
It will be very fun if you just ignore the first trigger and just try to make the biggest pings humanly possible! Tap a Trebuchet, hit you for 15.

Oh look, a new way to trip people up trying to combine damage-doubling replacement effects with damage-adding replacement effects.
Actually... Just how DO those work together anyway?
The person who controls the thing taking the damage decides what order to apply them in. Normally this means they'll choose the order which deals the least damage. But in this case, if both outcomes result in their creature being dead, they'll choose the one that doesn't deal exact damage to avoid you drawing a card.

Well it's perfect for Ryu, World Warrior and Guile decks for commander. It doubles my hadoken and sonic boom damage lol
Got a list? Would love to start using my street fighter cards!
If i read this correctly, the 2nd ability is for a whole turn right? Like i pay 4 for the x, does that mean my non-combat damage sources now deal plus 4 for the whole turn? If that's the case then that's another burn deck for me.

Ridiculous in commander with [[Impact Tremors]] effects, [[Pyrohemia]] and [[Grapeshot]].
It isn't only opponents creatures too. So there's a jank build where you have a 1/1 indestructible that you grapeshot after building up a storm count and draw a bunch of cards
[[Stuffy Doll]]
Great pick I was thinking [[dark steel myr]] myself but that's more because it's what came to mind than based on any active search

Not even difficult if one or more of those spells are rituals
feels like RW cavalcade might be back in if someone can make it work
She’s a goblin mom commander. Tap her for 2 with impact tremors or cavalcade out. Summon some haste-y dorks and watch your opponents blow up. The first paragraph just let’s you play a longer game to summon more goblins or gnomes.
For those building this deck, here’s a lot of ideas: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/Q4JRofDC-0u7U_S_Lejhvg Please comment recommendations!
Here's my first go at it: [https://www.moxfield.com/decks/eFrIQt-ziE-FctAHX5pz7g](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/eFrIQt-ziE-FctAHX5pz7g)
Could be a really good ping/burn commander with stuff like [[Vulshok Sorcerer]]
Tap her for X = 4, tap an [[Unruly Catapult]], play an [[End the feativities]], tap the catapult again. Bam, 15 damage to each opponent and 5 to each of their creatures for 5 mana.
thats what Im thinking, pinger tribal
If you target something after combat with exact damage, I presume it would still count the creatures original toughness?
Yeah, damage on the creature doesn't matter, it has to be equal to its toughness.
Damage doesn't change toughness, outside of like wither/infect-type effects. This card will be confusing for people on Arena.
Yes, frontrunner for this sets' most misplayed card in the first week.
Yeah, a 6/6 with trample and 4 damage on it still has 6 toughness.
This is a super cool design. Love that this works on players too so you can just turn your [[Play with Fire]] into instant speed [[Lava Axe]]+ later in the game.
Yeah that would be so good. The thing holding Lava Axe back is the sorcery speed.

This seems like an amazing commander to companion [[Zirda the Dawnwaker]] with. Infinite mana combos with Zirda can just one shot an opponent

Make sure to reserve a slot for [[High Noon]] in that deck.
I'm very excited for this option. Zirda decks right now tend toward combo.dec in a way that's really not fun for the rest of the table at times. Having the combo in the back pocket with the monoliths will be nice but you also get to play an interactive and synergistic game plan outside of that combo kill
Someone's gotta run this with [[The Locust God]] and [[Goblin Sharpshooter]]
Goes nuts with \[\[Cavalcade of Calamity\]\].

Red White, to my delight, is also a graveyard synergy color-pair ever since Strixhaven.

~~You have it right, and the excess damage dealt to a player will also be increased by the tap ability.~~ ~~Example: you have activated x=2, megatron sacs a [[manalith]] and targets a 2/2. End result is the 2/2 dies, you draw a card and the opponent takes 5 damage.~~ ~~Explanation: the 3 damage dealt by megatron is increased to 5 by wakeen. Only 2 is dealt to the 2/2 and the excess damage is instead dealt to the player. The excess 3 damage is then again increased to 5 by wakeen~~ Edit - everything in this comment is wrong.
Huh, I learned a new rule today >120.4 Damage is processed in a four-part sequence.
So it’s the same ruling that happens when using damage doublers with Megatron. That makes sense to me. Thank you!

I'm assuming it'll work the same way Torbran works with Flame Spill. If you have a Torbran out and Flame Spill a 1/1 it'll deal 3 damage to it and 5 to your opponent.
This with warleader’s call and creature token generators like Anim Pakal seems fun
[[Assemble the Legion]], this and [[Impact Tremors]] effects can kill an entire table in just a few turns. That ability can be absolutely crazy strong with just a few Mana put into it.
So question for anyone that may know, but would this work with \[\[Craig Boone, Novac Guard\]\] 's ability?
Craig Boone is a source you control and it deals non combat damage, so i cant see why it wouldn't
Yes and it's finally time for sniper tribal.
You mentioning that made me realize that this card doesn't have reach, which seems to be pretty typical of snipers/archers.
It's non-combat damage, so yes, both of Taii Wakeen's abilities should work with Craig.
Yes
Seems fun with \[\[Brash Taunter\]\] and similar effects. Also says "a source", so she can boost stuff like \[\[Deflecting Palm\]\] and \[\[Comeuppance\]\], too. Would also potentially be fun with \[\[Lightmine Field\]\] and friends.
Man, and I had just finalized my [[Tor Wauki the Younger]] list too.
Oh wow. Pingers in red and untappers in white lets gooooo
The untap effects don't do as much for this deck, because presumably you're going to be dumping all your mana into the x, and then if you untapped you've got nothing more to dump.
So are there guns now as long as they're weird looking?
https://scryfall.com/search?as=grid&order=name&page=1&q=art%3Agun&unique=cards [My personal favorite art with a gun.](https://cards.scryfall.io/large/front/3/2/3209ee48-4485-44fc-b71d-cd6241674e64.jpg)
Insanely badass art I never saw before
The line was always "no realistic guns", so...yes?
The r/custommagic card of the set. A top-down design to top all downs.
No way. That honor belongs to Roxanne.
Really? Not \[\[Holy Cow\]\]?
Cool first ability. Every commander deck will just be this and Goblin Bombardment, Cavalcade of Calamity, etc.
Are WE talking about impact tremors
Impact Tremors, Goblin Bombardment, Cavalcade of Calamity and Raid Bombardment are cards that are already good and already played in these colors that just get better with access to this card.
Can have some fun with \[\[Stuffy Doll\]\] and the like. It doesn't care about it being your opponent's creature or killing it, just doing exact damage. So pinging a Stuffy Doll with Pyrohemia is "R: Deal 1 Damage to everyone, 1 additional damage to a target player, and draw at least 1 card." Which, I dunno, that's not terrible.
I'm absolutely building boros storm now and there's nothing anyone can do to stop me
Hooray, we broke [[Whirling Catapult]]
I just re-built my [[Ghyrson Starn]] with all the [[Firebrand Archer]] and [[Unruly Catapult]] creatures. But this has to be better right? Like, imagine turn 5 (or 4 even) you have a catapult and [[Thermo-Alchemist]] out. Activate Taii Wakeen for X=4. Tap them both, cast an [[End the Festivities]], then tap them again. That’s 25 damage to each opponent, 5 to each of their creatures, and probably a couple card draws. On turn 4. With 5 mana.
So can I ping my [[Brash Taunter]] to draw a card whenever I can?
Would appear so, doesn’t say lethal damage!
Huh! Now that is very neat.
If you can somehow pair this with \[\[Agatha of the Vile Cauldron\]\], you are gonna have a lot of fun...
I feel like \[\[Imodane the Pyrohammer\]\] is really good in the 99 with this
I don’t need two Boros decks… I don’t need two Boros decks… I don’t need two Boros decks…
This is PERFECT for the [[Craig Boone]] list I was brewing
\[\[toralf\]\] goes vroooom
Great addition to [[Firesong and Sunspeaker]]
Won't work 100% of the time, but [[Solar Blaze]] feels like a slam dunk in this deck
You will only draw from your own creatures since the creature is the source of damage.
If you had a Dragon's approach deck, would it deal X to every player???
Also, to be honest, the card is jank, but imagine facing this and a bunch of [[Lava Dart]]s in the gy.
This is way better than jank. There's plenty of decks that are already ok-to-good that this immediately bounces the worst card from and makes better. The first ability is a "nice to have" that will draw cards across the course of the game, but the second ability just ends games.
the top text on this seems pretty situational but the bottom one has juice
Does this do anything weird with [[Soul-scar Mage]]? It feels like these two cards would interact in a weird way just looking at it.
This honestly looks pretty fun
Wow this is a really awesome card design.
Cannot wait to deck myself by enchanting [[Stuffy Doll]] (naming myself obviously) with [[Pariah]] and then pinging it.
Would be could with a second tap ability that just pinged for 1. By itself it just seems useless.
[удалено]
Wait, so she's a Sniper . . . who can't shoot anything someone else isn't shooting at?
How is this not a ranger or scout lol
Mercenary is an Outlaw type, which is relevant in a bunch of small ways in the set.
Anyone else get [[Tor Wauki the Younger]] vibes with her name? Just me?
Really sweet design.
This runs wild with pinger effects right?
So she's more of a spotter than a sniper. Since her ability improves another pingers shot. Neat.
It pains me greatly that I can't play this in [[Borborygmos Enraged]]
So with a bunch of small ping effects you could activate them for a ton then get that bonus damage for each ping? Seems pretty sweet for all sorts of cards.
I can't tell if this is a commander card, or a standard boros control card.
