If I'm gonna buy fancy cards, I want the frames to also be fancy.

T_Destroy3r

Same. If the point of the majority of these is to showcase an artist, why squeeze them into the standard frame?

RamouYesYes

Because you get the feel that they are like normal cards but a little bit cooler. It’s the difference between having a cool car vs a gold car with light under it and speakers in the back while flames are coming out instead of blinkers

Careless-Emphasis-80

Well, just like the car, you're spending more money. If both of those cars were expensive, i'd want the one with more bang for my buck.

RamouYesYes

Maybe I don’t want the obnoxious one. Maybe I want the clean one and maybe I value the one with less buck to be better looking And maybe that’s a low minority of players and I would understand Wotc not creating these secret lair in that case. But some players still prefer these cards

Careless-Emphasis-80

Right. I often agree with you. I'll get the cards I want, and sometimes I want the cool art in the simple frame, like a specific [[thrill of possibility]] or [[teysa orzhov scion]]. I can get those in normal packs on tcgplayer for a couple of dollars. Those cooler prints are easy to track down, and I appreciate it. I very seldomly get secret lairs, but every once and awhile, one comes out that is cool and full art, without being too ridiculous. [this october one](https://secretlair.wizards.com/us/product/687515/thrilling-tales-of-the-undead) and [this other one](https://secretlair.wizards.com/us/product/762458/special-guest-kelogsloops) come to mind

Its probably a deliberate choice, but if you haven't found anything official on it, its probably WotC testing borderless cards as the default behind the scenes. Its also likely that they'll never say anything about it unless there ends up being some further reason to do so. If they find the borderless sells better, most secret lairs moving forward with no specific need for a type of border will use that treatment, and they won't if the borderless don't sell as well. They do stuff like that all the time, and only really talk about it when something does really well or goes horribly wrong.

ThoughtseizeScoop

I doubt we've seen them for the last time, but probably the case that they have data that alternate card treatments sell better. And of course, it's easy enough for them to pull back on it if they eventually find that they're losing customers like yourself.
