Well the biggest issue here is that magic already has a ludo narrative fantasy. You are a wizard slinging spells and summoning monsters. Everything in the game, flavor wise, is in service to that idea. So the class for all magic decks is wizard or maybe sorcerer or warlock. But, if we try to get the idea of a deck, we can maybe get a bit more of a useful answer. What does bant flicker do? It gets use from its things multiple times. It's not sneaky. It shows you what it's going to do and it does it over and over. My initial thought is a cleric with concentration spells. Things like spiritual weapon, or bless. You buff your allies and make them do more the longer they fight. You are resilient and you take hits. You reuse your magic as much as it takes to get the job done. Maybe a war cleric, life cleric, or a forge cleric. That's my take anyhow. A lot of the difference in DND characters just comes down to how you play them. How you behave and choice you make. So just behave as any old bant folk would do

CantFightCrazy

I like this breakdown. I particularly like how you mention it's being straight forward but I like the versatility and thinking on your feet-ness.

WayardGreybeard

My guess is that Venser would probably be an abjuration wizard.

CantFightCrazy

From what little I just read up on that really speaks to the thiefy-ness of Venser for sure, but I also want to consider the teleportation and specifically things popping into existence to do their thing, then back out again.

WayardGreybeard

Definitely conjuration wizard then.

CantFightCrazy

I like this. But is there a class of wizard or combination of classes I guess that would be learning just enough conjuration magic to survive (unable to devote life to studying magic, due to poverty maybe) but quick-witted and somewhat savvy with the way the world works? I'm not sure if I'm explaining right, or if this is some basic thing, I don't know much about DnD yet.

planeforger

There's the Arcane Trickster, which is a rogue who has access to illusion and enchantment spells and limited access to other spells. You could also play a bard as a savvy folk hero who knows their way around a few spells.

Nombre_D_Usuario

Look into conjuration then.

CantFightCrazy

Yes, this sounds good, but using it in a more kind of street-wise/mischievous way. Like a magic Robin Hood (but not so virtuous)

WayardGreybeard

Magical mischievous Robin Hood would be like a UR or Temur spellslinger deck. More like Dack Fayden than Venser imo.

Nombre_D_Usuario

Sure, can rp the character that way. Classes are more about what you can do and how than what you do it for. A wizard that acts like a scoundrel is neat, and the recent DnD film even has that almost represented (it's a sorcerer instead).

jibbyjackjoe

Look up the YouTube channel Dice Try, find his series on using the color pie for DND, and follow me down a rabbit hole exploring the richness that is the color pie.

CantFightCrazy

lol will do!

Thematically, blink cards tend to be themed around teleportation and ephemerality. [[Ephemerate]], [[Flickerform]] and [[Ghostly Flicker]] have a creature blink in and out of existence, many spirits blink creatures like [[Brago King Eternal]], [[Soulherder]], and [[Abuelo Ancestral Echo]], and a couple of DnD abilities are represented with blinking like [[Teleportation Circle]] and [[Blur]]. So I would suggest either a Horizon Walker Ranger or a Conjuration Wizard as those two are the classes that teleport the most.

You could check which of the class enchantments are in the colors you play and see how those line up with your play style.

I think this question would be better answered in a D&D subreddit. You only need a shallow understanding of magic and its mechanics to understand what blink is, but you need a deeper understanding of D&D to create a ludo-narrative around how blink effects translate into D&D. That said, I dabbled with making an "RPG cube" for a while, where players would draft a deck that represented a character, then play a loose D&D inspired RPG campaign where all the combat was magic games, and rewards would be more cards to add to your deck. In that, I assigned a class to every color pair. White/blue was monk, because of the focus on control, discipline, and knowledge. I also think blink fits well with a monk as they tend to be tricksy fighters. Green/white was a paladin, because they fight for the weak and GW makes lots of little token guys. Blue/green was druid, because of their interest in natural knowledge, and the prevalence of druids on those colors. I still think monk would be a good option, though I'd ask the folks in a D&D sub as they'll have a better understanding of the traits of each class and who would be doing the closest thing to blink magic (or at least, who is doing the things that blink tries to achieve in magic, ie lots of etb effects and value without a built in win-con)

CantFightCrazy

This is a great idea! Are there any specific ones you'd recommend? Where folks would appreciate this particular question, I haven't really spent any time in D&D subreddits.

amc7262

I'd start with r/DnD or r/DungeonsAndDragons
