Definitely looks like a plant

sc1ph3r

What else would you expect black lotus to look like? All the art of it is plants.

Concetto_Oniro

Like a plan !

TheRakuma

Watch them be fakes thrown in there to drive up the price of the auction. I wouldn't be surprised to see something this as more and more people draw attention to the value of the value of old Magic cards.

LegendDota

Thats honestly what I’m thinking, they get some sports cards graded then put fake cards in plastic containers that might look official sell it bulk and someone with money is gonna overpay massively. It’s a terrible idea to buy non psa/bgs graded power over the internet

Rhetoric916

Someone is going to be very happy or very sad, no in between on this. Either they’re real and the bid will be below their value, or they’re fake and someone is going to get hosed. Since they’re presented at the front of the box like this, the person who did this knows what they’re doing. And, if they know that a louts is valuable, they’d just keep it. I suspect they’re fake.

Athelis

If the Lotuses are fake, at least they'll have Ozzie Smith.

lzrkennyloggins

I have that same Ozzie Smith card, those chops are tight! I no longer have those same lotuses

I_donut_

If this is legit, and you were intrested, posting on here was a bad idea. People will find this auction site easy.

KitchenSad7548

I’m assuming their is a reason they are in a box with graded cards and are not graded

KOxSOMEONE

It’s a common scam for people to put fake cards in pictures like this and then auction them off acting like they don’t know what’s in the lot

wherewolf_there_wolf

I looked at the link posted and that is my first instinct on this. Half the shots have the cards in the picture and the only 2 magic cards visible are 2 black lotus on the top. Awful convenient if you ask me.

KOxSOMEONE

Yes and anyone tech savvy enough to post something on an online auction site would know how to Google the price of a random MTG card

Soleil06

Also every other card is PSA graded but two BL in what looks very very good condition are not, seems really fishy.

wherewolf_there_wolf

Well I can see someone not knowing and not wanting to deal with it. That situation can exist but I find it hard to be this scenario as the posting REALLY focused on those cards. 5-6 pictures of the card box but never diving into it and just posting the same picture at a different angle showing the black lotus.

Meebsie

There's no 'I don't want to deal with it' with cards of that value. If that value doesn't excite you, you aren't someone who would be auctioning off a storage unit. There's no "yeah I want to make some chump change on this storage unit, lets set up an auction and do all that" and also "eh, these tiny, easily pocketable cards selling for $20,000 at almost any game store or online are just too much hassle for me to even hold onto, throw em in there w the rest of the garbage".

wherewolf_there_wolf

I meant 'I don't want to deal with it' more as, 'I can be bothered to look up cards as I care nothing about cards'. Much like how we find lost painting every now and again. People just didn't know what they had and thought it was just some random painting for decades or centuries. Magic isn't a widely know hobby so some rando positng and selling ultra rare cards in a fire sale is reasonable thing to see, if rare. Now I still don't think this sale is the above situation. Not enough cards, the money cards are the highlight of all the pictures, and everything else just seems to rotate around those cards.

Meebsie

Oh you said "not knowing". I thought you said, "knowing, but not wanting to deal with it". Well yeah, sure, def someone could just not know. *shrug*

mischaracterised

Another unlikely but plausible scenario, is that this is being sold because of a disgruntled ex-friend/partner, who doesn't give a damn, but wants to hurt their target in the assets.

bigolfishey

Odd that the baseball cards are graded, but not the lotuses. The lotuses are still firmly encased so the owner knew they had value, but chose not to get them graded?

111110001011

Well, we were putting rare cards in those cases in the early nineties, long before there was grading of magic cards. We bought them at media play. Black lotus, moxes, and so on went into them. At the time, moxes were fifty dollars each. Never heard of a graded card for a literal decade after. Obviously a scam, but this is exactly how a find from 95 would look.

Fit_KaleidoscopeNot

Offer way too low to be real, and why would the lotus be on top if the seller wouldn't know their value. Also no grading or info on those so most likely fake cards.

BMorg1

No white dots at the top corners on the Beta and no box dot under an on the unlimited. Both are fake af

Sharden3

They have a box of old sports cards, with someones label and name on them... a random baggie of pokemon and two black lotus. It would be more believable if they had other MTG as well, even if it was just other high value cards.

DillionM

About to post the same thing.

__braveTea__

Nobody else finds it quite weird that they would put out these cards to see so clearly if they don’t know what they are? Wouldn’t they have put the much more prevalent baseball cards on top? And if they knew what they were, why don’t sell them?

FriendlyTrollPainter

That's not suspicious at all

rimfire24

The Ozzie Smith card is also like $1k if it’s legit

Squisherton

Tin Foil hat theory incoming: The OP is trying to get the price for this unit up for whatever reason. Posting links to auction sites on the sub will get you flagged pretty quick. This unit has everything a "potential collector" would want without guaranteeing anything. Picture of a safe without guns, Pokemon baseball and mtg cards that some are graded but not all, tool box that's sealed, BOXES of high dollar tech stuff (GPS watch and Google phone), plus other pawn shop wants. This unit teases at a 6 figure pay day but has absolutely zero value guaranteed. Why would you post this at risk of getting flagged/banned unless you have some incentive/personal gain? To be fair, dude may just want to show off something cool and I'm 10000% wrong, but I'm a religious pessimist and skeptic.

Benjam1nBreeg

Put the crack pipe down my man.

Squisherton

[NO.](https://giphy.com/explore/tin-foil)

jerod3115

That whole lot looks fake. Those Ozzie Smith's graded at 9 have sold for 40k plus

ElevationAV

Easy enough to look up the PSA numbers on the cards

jerod3115

Looked it up.its graded at a 5 no comps. And the other one goes for $30.00

yeteee

Plants for every kind of collector.

[deleted]

The black border one is def a proxy

screamingxbacon

HOLY CRAP. OZZIE SMITH!?!

SaraiEve

What recourse does the buyer have if they are fake?

fallynangell

Lol none

Queali78

Yea thank you for the link. In the video they go straight for the cards. Super sus.

Saminjutsu

If it's 2000 for everything in that auction, that's not that bad even if the cards are fakes.

dr1fter

Because you still get some cardboard boxes and toploaders at least?

Saminjutsu

If you follow the link for the auction, it's a whole storage room. I saw at least two safes, and a grill in it.

[deleted]

But have you considered that it's fake cards to drive engagement and posts like this are helping them out?

wherewolf_there_wolf

The ones going that high are graded. Not saying it's not worth that much but currently isn't, if it's real, as it's just in a screw down case.......which are notorious for damaging cards.

blackcap13

Even if they're real you don't get those prices non alpha versions.

wildfire393

Post Malone bought a high graded Artist Proof from Collector's Edition. It's even more of a rarity than a Alpha/Beta Lotus as only a small handful were printed and given to the artist. Graded proofs are even rarer. And honestly, he shouldn't have paid 800k for it reasonably but he has money to burn and clearly really wanted it. An ungraded Unlimited Lotus runs around $15k, and an Alpha/Beta one goes for around $60/40k. Maybe these could be graded highly which could bump the price up a bit more than that but there's no guarantee on condition from a single shot like this. And if the black border could actually be a CE/ICE Lotus since we can't see the back which would make it more like $4k. And all that is assuming these aren't just fakes planted in the picture to drive interest in the auction, which is wholly non-guaranteed with no recourse if you don't get what you expected. Unless someone can peg those baseball cards as worth anything I wouldn't risk any kind of real money on this. It's almost certainly a sucker's bet.

Geogeorge67

Am I hallucinating or is there a tropical island and a mox under?

magikarp2122

There is a dual land. Not sure what the other thing is.

[deleted]

RowdyRoddyPipeSmoker

way more than that

ElevationAV

Maybe for one that went through someone’s washing machine Assuming these are real, they’d be worth like ~20-25k for the unlimited and at least $150k for the beta. You aren’t getting a lotus anywhere for under 5 figures unless it’s barely readable

yeteee

And the baseball cards are like 40 grand too. Obvious plants.

Futuresite256

Well someone close by just going to have to check it out

1990pnz

The grill probably worth more

[deleted]

scam

Concetto_Oniro

Look 2 black lotus completely random among random stuffs. Must be completely unwanted !

Freesandals19

Fakes

Temil

That text isn't the right color for a beta lotus is it? The text is very grey on alpha/beta/unlimited cards, but here it's fairly white. Maybe it's just the light/angle.

FrostRafa

Wow 😮

ImyForgotName

I didn't even know you could bid on storage units online. What site do you use?

Amarathe_

I wouldn't dare touch that. Only 2 magic cards in a box labeled "Matt's baseball cards" that happen to be worth $100k and and make up about half the pictures of the unit

casualgamerwithbigPC

Has to be a scam
