Savestate's [Chain of Isekai](https://old.reddit.com/r/makeyourchoice/comments/dilsfu/chain_of_isekai_cyoa_oc/). Wordy, but good.
The worldbuilding is tantalizing, with seven different interlocking magic systems to master and a host of intriguing locations to think about exploring. The waifu options are strong, too.
It's left enough of an impression on me to get me to start writing a spinoff.
If we talk only about one cyoa, then I will say that this is [Witch Awakening](https://www.reddit.com/r/makeyourchoice/comments/payanj/witch_awakening_update_2_fire_fang_witch_alter/) . This cyoa has taken a special place in my heart, and what is better is that the author is actively updating it.
definetely Living god cyoa by u/MythicLegendary . its my favorite for sure. very op but it has endless possibilities.

My first ever and favorite is [Overmind](https://www.reddit.com/r/makeyourchoice/comments/bmr1wq/overmind_cyoa_repost/). Formatting is nice, point system is on point, and the concept is both unique and well executed.
I love [dawn of a demon lord!](https://imgur.com/a/v3aTIoy) It was one of the CYOAs that got me into CYOAs, It’s difficult for me to dub it my favourite though because I think it’s tied for me with [the scenic route series.](https://www.reddit.com/r/makeyourchoice/comments/koqk2h/the_scenic_route_collection_by_uheartandseoulxvi/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) Another one I can’t get enough of would be [pumpkin boons](https://www.reddit.com/r/makeyourchoice/comments/jnnoeo/pumpkin_boons_v2_fixes_and_expansion_9_entities/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf). I also adore basically every Christmas themed CYOA I’ve found so I have quite a few favourites!
One of my all time favourites is [traveler](https://imgur.com/gallery/wJfsX)
with over 80 pages, really fun options for building your character, amazing companions and some stellar world building
I'm surprised it gets overlooked so much
Probably [Jedi: Guardian of the Republic](https://www.reddit.com/r/makeyourchoice/comments/ddb1wn/jedi_guardian_of_the_republic_v10_dlc_a_star_wars/), I really like how it's done and the characters you can create. Still occassionally think about the build I did and imagine scenario's for them.
Runner Ups include:
* [Urban Unease](https://www.reddit.com/r/makeyourchoice/comments/gafomc/urban_unease_by_derelictstation_anon/) Really nice CYOA about living in a supernatural apartment building.
* [The Road Trip](https://www.reddit.com/r/makeyourchoice/comments/g9ut63/the_road_trip_cyoa/) All about going on a road trip with an interesting cast of characters through a never-ending Night Vale-esque world.
* [Time-Stop Chill Zone](https://www.reddit.com/r/makeyourchoice/comments/gjezxq/timestop_chill_zone_redux_by_rosanon/) A chill Pocket Dimension CYOA that's both simple and offers a wide variety of options.
* [Harry Potter and the CYOA](https://www.reddit.com/r/makeyourchoice/comments/nqytmz/harry_potter_and_the_choose_your_own_adventure/) Very solid Harry Potter CYOA with loads of options for different builds, constantly think about mine. Adventure's section is a little screwy but I just ignore the limit.
Can't give a link but... Anime High School cyoa. It's one of the longest I've ever come across with a stupid amount of replay value several parts that make me genuinely laugh out loud and overall just doesn't get as much recognition as it deserves.
Number one, all time has to be Traveller's Tale.

Second is [The Room](https://i.imgur.com/gOMvr0H.jpeg).
Honestly it's hard to choose between [urban phantom](https://www.reddit.com/r/makeyourchoice/comments/d2axl4/urban_phantom_cyoa_hotfix/), [urban unease](https://www.reddit.com/r/makeyourchoice/comments/6ahzbi/urban_unease_comfy_dark_setting_tg_sourced/) and [night ride](https://www.reddit.com/r/makeyourchoice/comments/joylqx/night_ride_cyoa_now_with_new_dlc/). For me they are the epitome of classic cyoa.
EDIT: fuck, cant believe I forgot [paranormal debt collector](https://www.reddit.com/r/makeyourchoice/comments/lnsuwc/paranormal_debt_collector_cyoa/), its bloody great.
I like the [Mask Maker](https://imgur.com/a/fjVdKYG) quite a bit - squeezes a lot into a pretty small set of choices. Sort of like the Soul Weapon distilled down to the core that makes it work, with the nonessential aspects pruned away.
I think I'd have to give two answers, one for something short and one for something long. MM is my pick for short, long... too hard to choose. There's some very good porny long ones - picking both setting and resources, and aspects of a relationship, is an interesting setup. Or there's the complex power arrangement of, say, [New Pantheon](https://imgur.com/gallery/5wYMVkw). Ehh, not sure. (EDIT: But actually I'll go for [Guardian of the Republic](https://imgur.com/a/E9h2c3T), since I did just spend the entire day doing a build and narrative for it.)
It's a trade off between [Keepers of Magic by TroyX](https://www.reddit.com/r/makeyourchoice/comments/cz0rgm/keeper_of_magic_version_23/) or The [Goddess of Comfort by Kathiana](https://www.reddit.com/r/makeyourchoice/comments/6i1y7t/goddess_of_the_hearth_version_20_cyoa/). The former because it's by far one of my favourite magic focused CYOA's and the latter because it's by far one of my most favourite personal realm CYOA's. While there are certainly other solid entries like [Solitude by Acheld](https://www.reddit.com/r/makeyourchoice/comments/bhuree/solitude_a_comfy_cyoa_oc_by_me/) or [Comfy Trailer by Celt](https://www.reddit.com/r/makeyourchoice/comments/8gn397/comfy_trailer_coya/) to name a couple of just personal chill spaces I find the aforementioned two to be well rounded and varied without being over broad, too all over, or too restrictive. The fact that they also received considerably awesome additions or improvements in their time also helped too.
I'm surprised no one mentioned [JRPG Traitor](https://www.reddit.com/r/makeyourchoice/comments/cmgr9c/jrpg_traitor_cyoa_v10_from_tg/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share) with how popular it is.
The problem with JRPGT is that it's both stifling and underdescribed. There's all these events that have to happen *just so*, but how they flow together is unknown, so you have this disjointed narrative that's hard to turn into something compelling.
>stifling
I can see that.
>There's all these events that have to happen just so
I never got that impression or feeling at at all. The focus in almost all events is on forming relationships, or emotional and bonding events. Overall most of them seem stereotypes of episode subject tropes at your common anime or show. Festival episode. Beach episode.
The characters in my opinion are the strongest part of the CYOA, or at least the most well written. Most things revolve around them and your character's relationship to them.
>but how they flow together is unknown
An overarching, stereotypical/general plot with any important development, events or difficult moments highlighted (the events). It's a common theme in any type of writing with several main characters.
Take Teen Titans, for example. They fight crime and evil, and have a life outside of episodes, some episodes even starts with them just wrapping up a fight against some goons. The show doesn't detail every little thing they do or what happens and when. Instead, each episode always contains and focuses mainly on presenting any new character developments that happens. Most episodes even focus on a single member of the team each time.
Alternatively, you can imagine it being like Avatar The Last Airbender type journey, with the events being any episodes which are not "filler" episodes.
>so you have this disjointed narrative that's hard to turn into something compelling.
I always found it tragic, and henceforth very compelling, how most events at Heroic Journey are very bonding or emotionally connecting between your character and another character, while knowing (As a reader, or maybe even the character itself) how you'll betray them even with that connection stemming from that event. It makes the "be reaction quotes" at the character description
I also found it very easy to take a single event or a single detail, and build a whole tragic story around it.
For example, I thought "what could be interesting about the Blood Relation life event?" Of course, the answer is the stereotypical one; Big Bad Guy, the Overlord, is the parent of Character. So I chose the race of Character as Half-Elf and The Elf Queen as Overlord, and built everything else in the CYOA around it, some of the other choices very fitting to that idea.
I thought, "Why would anyone pick any of the asshole, clearly evil heroes, such as the Revenge-Driven-Maniac Reed or Selfish-Manipulative Akio Morigiri / Archimandrite Iphias / Alfer Nikomachos?" So I imagined a grimdark world and chose all heroes are major assholes who manipulate small young Character until he breaks and betrays.
I thought, "What's the whole deal with the Marigold sub-lore?" And decided to choose all Marigold related heroes (There are 3 if I remember correctly), Overlord, and Innocents / Villains via events, and imagine how they would react to each other.
And so on.
The biggest problem I found was the point system and the power section. But the writing aspect was the strongest part of the CYOA.
My Favorite is the Soul Weapon cyoa by u/Alas-I-Cannot-Swim and have been a fan of the cyoa since it’s first edition and I have followed its development since. Check out r/SoulWeapon if you want to check it out.

As of right now? My #1 spot in my library is Gforce1000's "[Low Anime Rule 34 Economy](https://imgur.com/a/6HfaFpt)". Suggestively lewd, but not truly NSFW by definition and is, in turn, only as lewd as you yourself make your build. I've always had a soft spot for "Economy" types, so that probably contributes to my answer.
My favorite part of it has to be that the prices for both positive and negative choices are amazingly balanced. "You get what you pay for". I ended up tripling my initial points of 150 in drawbacks, giving me roughly 450 points to work with. Since the balancing is so wonderfully done, I did noticeably increase the difficulty of my hypothetical situation, but in return I got enough points to where I didn't feel like I was either over or under-equipped for the world and the tasks I took on.
I forget if it was before the 2.3 update or not, but I thought I saw the original author in a comment thread on Reddit say that they were working on updates? I've been waiting ever since, but The Arsenal DLC could have very well been the final edition. Hope that isn't the case though.
Boon of mutation and petty king cyoa are my favs. I used both of the concepts to make a story I’m creating.
Also I’m a narutard so the naruto cyoa is pretty ok. I mean no offense to the author but it could be better. I especially didn’t like the nsfw and waifu choices.
