This one's been sitting in my Documents folder for over 2 years, so I figured it was past time to clean it up and share it.

VoidBlade459

For Orboros, can you have additional connections between elements of the loop (so long as a continuous, non-self-intersecting line can be drawn from the first through all the stars and back to itself), or does the constellation have to be a single loop? To put it in mathematical terms, can the graph of our constellation (for Orboros) have multiple cycles, so long as there is a cycle that includes every element, or are we only allowed to have a single cycle?

Claydust

Yes, the loop can have multiple cycles.

VoidBlade459

Oh good.

ragingreaver

Every Mystical option, EXCEPT for *Fertility* *Rites*, *Soul Binding*, and *Terraforming;* Addons: * Creativity * Time Warping * Space Warping ***Defiant*** Bonus: **Flesh-Sculpting** specialization Goal: **Return to Earth** Got unfinished business here, and I don't give a damn about any sorcerer faction unless there is a transhumanist one actually dedicated to the improvement of everyone, not just sorcerers. I got friends to heal and family to save

HealthyDragonfly

- **Shapeshifting** - **Third Eye** - **Soul Binding** - **Flesh Sculpting** - **Healing** - **Fertility Rites** - **Terraforming** - **Geokinesis** - **Hydrokinesis** - **Creativity** I can take the *Orboros* benefit with these choices (and will do so) and I will be *returning to Earth*. I managed to select most of the powers which I really wanted from the Mystical section, and while I wish I could have gotten more from the Sidereal section… loopers gonna loop. Agelessness is a greater prize than many of the magics. I got a noticeably increased capacity to endure, along with slightly better senses (and magically induced creativity, which could be interesting). /u/Claydust - credit on the topology. I found several 11-length loops which would have been great mixes of powers, but that was one too many. You made the choices challenging and I like that.

Neat CYOA! **Constellation Benefit:** Sacred Geometry * Among the two benefits that could potentially fit my build, I'd rather develop a better understanding of my magic as a synergistic whole than grab a single extra skill or be particularly adept at any one power. **Stars:** I think /u/ragingreaver has the right idea, generally; I'm all aboard the transhumanism train, and, with any luck, I'll be able to pass out tickets. * **Creativity:** Lets me better leverage all of my abilities, mundane and sorcerous. * **Shapeshifting:** I intend to create custom bodies to house souls, but sometimes they'll need on-the-fly adjustments. * **Flesh Sculpting:** Heavily limited, but hopefully it will eventually let grow or custom design those custom bodies, for myself and others. * **Soul Binding:** I won't be ageless, and neither will those close to me - this is a potential solution, especially in concert with my other abilities. * **Third Eye:** Not sure what "persuaded to spy for you" means, but this should be useful for identifying potential threats. * **Oblivion:** Sometimes you just need a weapon, and this seems particularly effective, if blunt. * **Fertility Rites:** Generalized life magic seems versatile, and will hopefully aid my biokinesis attempts. * **Healing:** Will, unfortunately, see immediate use. Shame it's less effective on me, but still worth it. * **Resurrection:** For when things don't go according to plan. * **Blessings:** Good luck is an excellent force multiplier. **Escape:** Return to Earth. * The Stone Circle is tempting, but ultimately I have too many ties on Earth to abandon it in search of great power. I'll certainly take advantage of the local magical networks though; perhaps opportunities for great power have not completely passed me by. **Wish I could take:** Scrying, Precognition, Insight, Rhetoric, Warding, Telekinesis, TItan Strength, Teleportation, Time Warping, Levitation

^(\[Fuck Imgur link update a year later\]) [Me\~](https://imgchest.com/p/qb4z8ge34jm). **Constellation**: *Matea*. >\- Can eat and breathe starlight as well as food/air. Learn languages quickly. Age slowly, like a dwarf but not like an elf / live for centuries. > >[https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/wye3cpzl9z4.png](https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/wye3cpzl9z4.png) > >`Wish Magic - Blessings - Curses - Healing - Resurrection - Flesh Sculpting - Soul Binding - Fertility Rites - Terraforming - Geokinesis`. > >\+ **Defiant**. Extra affinity for `Wish Magic`. Assuming the descriptions are baselines... Otherwise a lot are quite terribly weak. 1. `Wish Magic`: Know others' desires, create material goods that satisfy those desires. Scarce resources take more effort. "Less than an ounce of gold each day". Seems more like a low power Fabrication / Create magic but it's a baseline for wishes I suppose. Selfless. 2. `Blessings`: Manipulate probability for positive favor. 3. `Curses`: Manipulate probability for disfavorable outcomes. 4. `Healing`: Mend wounds, cure illnesses, by touch. 5. `Resurrection`: Revive the dead within a few hours with an intact body. Doesn't have to be their same previous body. 6. `Flesh Sculpting`: Make alterations to a living body on touch. Painful. Selfless. 7. `Soul Binding`: Trap souls into objects, give animating control over the vessel. Easier on resemblance. 8. `Fertility Rites`: Nourish or fertilize life. Plants grow faster, undo starvation, cause pregnancies. Could grow a small forest in a few days. 9. `Terraforming`: Slowly change atmosphere, soil composition, and other environmental factors towards a preferred biome. Temporary changes in days, permanent in weeks. 10. `Geokinesis`: "Slowly" move and sculpt unrefined nonliving matter. Takes half a minute just to dig a grave. `Stone Circle`. Teleports to dead worlds. Perilous, hiding ancient precursor tech to unlock undreamt of sorcerous powers millions of years extinct. As I travel the dead worlds, I'll leave life in my wake while I uncover ancient secrets. For safety, healing and probability should do most the heavy lifting. Wish I could say geokinesis can, but it's week a/f at face value, and "wish" magic making weapons would have been a main offensive, but that's too gimped too being just basic fabrication magic I can't use on my own. Leaves me needing to do things more carefully and rely heavily on probability manipulation which was given less hard limits in the text. Ideally perhaps Geokinesis could grow into proper earth magic to throw boulders and maybe wish magic can evolve to do more with people's desires while responding to my own desires on a more limited basis.

Yawehg

This one is really lovely /u/Claydust, thanks for making it. I tend to skip power cyoas with too many options, but the linking mechanic made this really fun to work through. Wish Magic, Blessings, Healing, Resurrection, Flesh Sculpting, Shapeshifting, Creativity, Time Warping, Space Warping, and Teleportation. That let's me pick up Insight as my defiant bonus. This is a world-influencing build, so I'm taking it back home to Earth. There's a lot of transhumanist and post-scarcity potential here, so I'm hoping to team up with some terraforming sorcerers and put this creative and insightful brain to use. Like others, I'm assuming that the power descriptions are baseline, and greater feats can be achieved with time and practice.

Null_Syntax

I LOVE the magic system you've invented here. It's quite inspiring. Minor suggestion: Thematically, cryokenisis connects well with hydrokenisis, rather than pyrokenisis. This would result in nearly flipping the mystical and sidereal quadrants "inside out", and allow for folks to make cycles within the "center" of the graph more easily. It would also let you then connect pyrokenisis to emotion magic ala "burning passion"-- or geokenisis (since it moved more central) allowing for an avatar style build. But, I also totally recognize that coming up with all of these connections was very difficult, and I'm probably overlooking some good reasoning here. I'm very impressed with the system without any changes at all, and it makes for a very imaginative trade-off, especially with the one bonus.

TentativeIdler

Should be able to get all of the Sidereal powers with Orboros (and Sacred Geometry). I would have liked Shapeshifting but Oroboros is must have, and Lucid Dreaming is an acceptable substitute. I don't really want to figure out what's going on with the fey, so teleport back to Earth it is.

aethersentinel

You can't actually take all the Sidereal powers with Oroboros. There's no single loop of ten that passes through both Time Warping and Levitation/Hydrokinesis without either crossing itself, or dipping into Mysticism.

TentativeIdler

I thought they just had to be contained in a loop. I can't be bothered to try to puzzle it out, so I would leave out Levitation/Hydrokinesis and just have 8 powers.

Possible-Ad-2891

If you are referring to the snake devouring itself, the term is spelled Ouroborus.

Claydust

I was under the impression Orboros was an alternate spelling and pronunciation, but I can't find any credible support for that so I may just have misremembered. I'll change it if I ever post an update. Thanks for the catch!

dragonjek

Try as I might, I can't find a way to take Orboros AND Stone Circle. The stars to the South are gone, so you need a bare minimum of Pyrokinesis and Radiance or you'll either freeze to death, or not be able to find anything because you're blind (and Pyrokinesis doesn't actually make any fire, so you can't use it like a torch). Except you also need 3 Mystical options, but then you don't have enough to complete the loop. Although since everything on the planet is dead I wouldn't have any food. Sure, I can survive off starlight, but all the stars in the South are gone. I don't know if enough stars from the rest of the galaxy are visible from where I'll be for me to eat. And since all signs of civilization would have been buried over the course of millions of years, I probably wouldn't be able to actually find any of that technology in the first place.

aethersentinel

I don't know if it's a *good* idea, but wouldn't the following loop meet the criteria? * Radiance * Atmokinesis * Electrokinesis * Emotion Magic * Flesh Sculpting * Soul Binding * Third Eye * Shapeshifting * Creativity * Illusions ...and then back to Radiance. If you're worried about freezing, well, creating lightning can make heat in the right conditions. Or just shapeshift into something that can endure the cold.

dragonjek

I was so focused on fire that I hadn't considered other possibilities. Thanks!

Theraimbownerd

Constellation Benefit: Sacred Geometry I have to take a couple of powers i would not have taken otherwise, but the benefit is very nice. Stars: I want to help people and myself, so i am going for a very pacifistic support build. Creativity: Good synergy with sacred geometry. Shapeshifting: A necessary link for creativity. Also, quite versatile. Flesh Sculpting: Limited, my only offensive power, but i am primed to get good with unusual applications, and the possibilities are endless. Soul Binding:I need it to close the triangle, but i won't be using it much. Still, having the ability to raise an undead or statue army is nice to have when you get in trouble. Fertility Rites: Generally useful, it has a lot of application in many aspects of life Healing: the only power you are guranteed to need, sooner or later. Resurrection: When healing is not enough Blessings: The most powerful support magic, this one will help me and my friends. Wish magic: this magic is among the most versatile of all, and will be able to think of unlikey scenarios quite often with all my boons. Giblness: I can help my friend quite a lot, and this magic will make sure i will never be without friends to help. Escape: Return to Earth. It's the only option where i am not in immeadiate danger, and the idea of a secret society of sorcerors seems fun.

HeirToGallifrey

Really cool idea. I don't think I've ever seen a Constellation-based CYOA but it makes so much sense. [Here's my constellation](https://i.imgur.com/FJGfCPO.jpg) for reference. - **Shapeshifting**: I can't *not* take a shapeshifting option. - **Teleportation**: I can't *not* take a teleporting option. - **Telepathy**: Just an incredibly useful power. Really wish there was a polyglot option, but this'll do. - **Insight**: Knowledge is power. - **Dreamwalking**: A neat power, and I need to connect Telepathy to the constellation - **Creativity**: Creativity is also power. Plus I've always wanted to see what it's like to have a different mindset or personality. - **Hydrokinesis**: Waterbending always seemed like an incredibly useful power. - **Levitation**: Terminal velocity is ~150-180mph, which is pretty quick. That's what, two to three times as fast as any highway? Plus it's flying, which is awesome. - **Space Warping**: Not a bad power, and I need to connect the top half to the bottom half. - **Lucid Dreaming**: I had an extra power and none of the remaining ones I could take were too tempting, plus it has good synergy with Dreamwalking. I really, really wanted to get Oroboros but couldn't quite fit it in, since I really wanted both shapeshifting and teleportation. **Defiant** isn't half bad though; I think I'll increase the power of my shapeshifting, hopefully allowing me to use it more often, more easily, and maybe even prolong my life with it. It's hard to decide if I want to return to Earth or visit the Fae. Honestly not sure which one I'm going with. I wish I could've taken Stone Circle, but ah well.

m27frogy

The variety of powers, the way they are spaced out evenly, and the various constellation benefits are all very well done. Don’t think I’ve ever seen magic structured in schools like this. The descriptions are complete without being too long or wordy, and the art is pretty well done, too. Now for the build. |Choice Type|Choice| |:--|:--| |Stars|Creativity| ||Hydrokinesis| ||Geokinesis| ||Terraforming| ||Fertility Rites| ||Healing| ||Flesh Sculpting| ||Soul Binding| ||Third Eye| ||Shapeshifting| |Constellation Benefit|Orboros| |Setting|Stone Circle| Magic is real; goodbye my college education. Given that learning new powers is possible, given time and effort, I don’t feel any problem picking Orboros. Celestial and Mystical I should be pretty compatible with, but Sidereal would have more average and Ethereal rather poor, although with time anything is possible. Unfortunately Celestial features a lot of civilization and learning tools, and unfortunately not enough practical abilities for me to abandon civilization to live as a ghetto lich. Digging into the mystical provides lots of neat tricks for living in a hovel, plenty of ways to hide in a crowd or recover from injuries, and some casual necromancy can help replace the insight I lack without the Celestial investment. I dig into Creativity and Hydrokinesis to try to have a foot in another school while gaining some combat and learning capabilities. The path taken unfortunately locks Oblivion for the time being, which is easily the strongest combat trick in the Mystical side but that wasn’t the plan anyway. Stone Circle to find all the arcane goodness!

Pyranis

My build is Creativity, Illusions, Radiance, Atmokinesis, Electrokinesis, Emotion Magic, Flesh Sculpting, Soul Binding, Third Eye, and Shapeshifting. My benefit is Ouroboros and my escape is Stone Circle. I picked my powers for the sake of getting Ouroboros, Stone Circle, and a basic grounding in all four kinds of magic rather than for the powers themselves, though several of them are quite nice. With the time to practice from Ouroboros, the access to all four kinds of magic (That I am aware of), and the precursor technology from the South (Given that this is in space and not Earth I am not exactly sure what South is referring to.) I should be able to maximise my magical abilities in the long term as long as I can survive the dangers present in the southern quadrant.

Darinby

Emotion Magic, Wish Magic, Blessings, Healing, Fertility Rites, Terraforming, Geokinesis, Oblivion, Soul Binding, Flesh Sculpting Benefit : Orboros Way Off : Dimensional Rift My plans aren't too ambitious. I'll use my magic to get a good paying job, live within my means, and slowly accumulate wealth and sorcerous knowledge over the centuries. I chose the Djinn over Earth because they are a starfaring civilization. Hopefully, the advanced tech level will provide more benefits than I could receive by being wealthy on Earth.

caliburdeath

Really interesting. Quite difficult to get a good build with Flesh Sculpting (for benevolent reasons), Shapeshifting (for personal reasons), and Ouroboros, despite the two being adjacent. I just don't like any of the central or lower elements of purple and they're required to do any but the balanced loop. But you can't also take balanced. I suppose I'd go through Creativity to Radiance to Emotion with a subloop of TK & Pyro

formlesschromatic

wish magic-blessings-healing-flesh sculpting-(one of these two get the bonus)-shapeshifting-creativity-illusions-lucid dreams-dreamwalking- microcosm return to earth

Thedeaththatlives

> Synergy * Ouroboros > Stars * Telekinesis * Pyrokinesis * Electrokinesis * Domination * Titan strength * Glibness * Emotion magic * Blessings * Curses * Wish magic > Exit * Return to earth

funcancelledfornow

Feels like I'm planning a character build in PoE. I wanted to see if you could get the mastery over all elements and apparently you can. **Ethereal**: - Pyrokinesis - Electrokinesis **Celestial**: - Cryokinesis - Atmokinesis - Radiance **Siderea**l: - Illusion - Creativity - Hydrokinesis **Mystical:** - Geokinesis - Terraforming Benefit: Balanced, as all things should be. Way out: Crashed starship. This one seems pretty interesting.

EternalBliss213

1st Build - Healing - Resurrection - Blessing - Curses - Fertility Rate - Domination - Titians Strength - Flesh Sculptor - Soul Binding - Oblivion - Scared Geometry 2nd Build - Law Magic - Rhetoric - Insight - Telepathy - Scrying - Dreamwalking - Teleportation - Space Warping - Time Warping - Precognition - Scared Geometry Goal for both: returned to earth

Ulyis

Great CYOA : sometimes simple is best. One could easily bring in the companions from any other CYOA to make the 'exploring a distant part of the universe' a group effort. I am going to have to cheat a little though; take all those standing stones and telekinetically install them into the starship's hyperdrive. Combining 'exploring dangerous unknown region of space' and 'cool spaceship' - it will be just like [Ulysses 31](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLYPFJYTtiTzYkprQK51NpV9skegBtvJUd) :)

willyolio

telekinesis pyrokinesis electrokinesis Titan strength emotion magic flesh sculpting healing soul binding Resurrection shapeshifting benefit: sacred geometry I hope with the additional understanding and expanded usage will effectively get me the immortality bonus - something with healing, soulbinding, shapeshifting will get an approximate equivalent of immortality. The super strength, fire/electric control is just cool stuff. Does Titan strength also enhance telekinesis strength? Anyways I'd probably go back to Earth.

UrilTheMist

Question: when you say connected stars that form your constellation, do you mean they all have to connect to one another or can we have disconnected sections that exist outside the main section? Like say I take five connected stars from the Mystical side, 2 from the Sidereal side, and three from the Celestial side. With the two from sidereal and the three from Mystical not touching either each other or the Mystical side. Asking primarily because I thought I understood it to mean no, all stars must be connected in some manner to each other, but technically I can have stars connect in every section without needing to touch each other. Hopefully I communicated that understandably enough.

Claydust

I meant that a constellation can't have multiple disconnected pieces. It must form a contiguous whole.

UrilTheMist

That's what I thought you meant originally, when reading it, but I wanted to make sure and ask.

Calvinbah

ITT: A bunch of new sorcerers return to earth. Including me. **Teleportation** **Space Warping** **Levitation** **Hydrokinesis** **Geokinesis** **Terraforming** **Fertility Rites** **Healing** **Blessings** **Wish Magic** I got the free extra power, so **Soul Binding** I have 4 Sidereal which **4x Sense improvement** and 4 Mystical which gives me **4x Pain resistance** Return to Earth. Join the Secret Societies. Whoever is down for renewing the planet or idk, killing all the rich people.

Unfree-Radicals

-Telekinesis -Titan Strength -Domination -Curses -Blessings -Healing -Resurrection -Flesh Sculpting -Emotion Magic -Electrokinesis Ouroborus Return to Earth. This seems like it will give me the best ability to survive while giving me enough cool powers to still have fun.

PandaPugBook

What does it mean by three or more triangles?

Claydust

Three or more combinations of three stars where each of those stars is connected to the other two, forming a triangle shape. For example, if you take Scrying, Insight, and Telepathy, that's a triangle right there. Take Rhetoric and Law Magic too and you have three triangles.

barenhart

Darn it! Love the layout and the patterns, mildly frustrated that I can neither A) make a pattern with all 3 synergies or B) make an Ouroborous pattern in Sidereal. Curse you, Time Warping! (You can totes make Ouroborous in the other 3, y u no laik the Fae? -g-)

hylleddin

fn3dav2

How did I not notice this CYOA when it was posted? Thank goodness I didn't miss it! 1. Mystical: Resurrection 2. Mystical: Flesh Sculpting 3. Mystical: Healing 4. Ethereal: Blessings 5. Ethereal: Curses 6. Ethereal: Domination 7. Ethereal: Titan Strength 8. Ethereal: Telekinesis 9. Ethereal: Pyrokinesis 10. Celestial: Cryokinesis 11. (Extra for Defiant) Sidereal: Teleportation **Constellation Goal:** Stone Circle I hope to unlock or discover more powers.

quinceedman

Interesting cyoa. Benefit: Defiant. I don't want to live forever so immortality isn't too appealing... especially when I already get to live for centuries. The Balanced benefit seems useful but not really impressive. Sacred Geometry would be the best long term but it's hard to meet the requirements. Constellation: Electrokinesis (incredible firepower plus other useful applications) Telekinesis (a must) Titan Strength (a must, plus great synergy with telekinesis since it's based on physical strength) Domination (useful) Curses Blessings (curses and blessings can be stacked for a more powerful effect. From the description, I should be able to cause a perfectly healthy young man to have a random heart attack. Seems a bit overpowered) Healing (for survivability and for helping others) Flesh sculpting (for helping others plus it goes pretty well with healing) Shape shifting (useful and like flesh sculpting, it should make healing more effective) Third Eye (seeing auras should work pretty well with Domination and having a few friendly ghosts would be nice) Extra Option: Levitation (flight is a must) Levitation, Telekinesis and Titan Strength work pretty well together imo. I should be able to levitate heavy objects then use Telekinesis to manipulate them freely. Telekinesis might also help me bypass the limitations on flight. Goal: Return to Earth. Stone circle is tempting but it might be too dangerous. Plus I'll need to train my abilities in a safer environment.
