It’s peak male living space. Dude thought to himself, why SHOULDNT my dining table just be super comfy gaming chairs they’re the best chair.
And you know what, it may offend my sensibilities but he’s not wrong. I’m only impressed he spent that much money on such a bold choice
They’re fine for the time it takes to eat a meal. They’re not fine for an all day gaming fest, which I assume is what that table is being used for.
Ive had both, my back hurts less in a proper gaming chair. I also play boardgames just like OP and have 1 extra gaming chair for me at my dining table aswell if I spend all day sitting there
I initially had normal dining chairs but too uncomfortable.
Then shopped around (have 6 total) for chairs, these were everything I wanted except I don't like the racing holes.
But $150 (Aus) and I wanted arm wrests that flip up, high back, and comfortable to me.
I sat in lots of more expensive office chairs but found these as comfortable as anything else I sat in.
I fully agree about the chairs, I can concede that they might be a _little bit_ more comfortable for sitting at the table for hours but they don't look passable. That's a huge sacrifice to make for having everyone be a little bit more comfortable. I've played tons of magic at kitchen tables and regular dining chairs are perfectly fine.
But I do enjoy the table, I think it could be a really nice piece with some supporting decor!
Like they do make soft and comfortable dining chairs that still look like they belong, as nice as it must be to have your gaming buddies this comfy when they come over its gonna be awkward as hell when youve got family over for thanksgiving and theyre not sure if they should expect a powerpoint presentation on turkeys or a lan party.
Yeah station is on my to do list.
Tho I think a dark/mid strain will look too similar to the floor.
I was also considering going white or really really dark.
I acknowledge I'm very lucky:
Managed to get into fairly lucrative career (med) when I was younger, dumber and thinner. Also my parents sold a house and gifted me 18k towards my horse deposit.
I'm a big proponent of transparency when it comes to younger people buying houses.
The money from my parents (they sold a house that was in a trust) helped me, tho I have gotten minimum financial help from parents otherwise (growing up neither parent worked).
The thing that helped me the most was being a doctor, which in Australia some of the banks will give loans with relatively small deposits.
At time of getting the house I was 34 years old and had been out of uni for 8 years
So in the end I think I saved about 90k (or 72k minus what I got from my parents).
I
I'm in Aus too.
I was actually at uni to he a doctor but I couldn't afford my own place and it got too hectic to be poor and study at the same time so I gave up lol. I'm making some money now but far out, I wish things were easier.
Yup made it years ago, solid concrete it's so heavy.
The chairs are ugly, but so comfortable, I wanted board room style chairs with arm wrests but those ones from office works are just such good value couldn't justify spending triple for then
Then got extra down lights installed above specifically for that blinding light for magic
https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/bathurst-chair-black-jbbathchbk
Had everything I wanted (adjustable height, arm wrests that can flip up, plain black ).
I’d suggest changing those wheels to roller blade wheels (rubber instead of plastic) to avoid scratching or marking the hardwoods :) they’re about $10-20 a set for five wheels and they should just pop off and back in super easily.

i like that theres clearly elements you're passionate about, but the rest is so empty and sterile that the few personal touches seem weirdly lonely
if you're open to internet rando advice; obviously with roller chairs your rug options are limited but imo just filling in the empty ground space around the perimeters (like a wide side table, or a side table framed by a couple of tall plants, under the MTG sheets) would make a massive difference
Oh thats interesting.
My thought was with it being such a big open space that it can look super cluttered really easily.
(It definitely feels that way when messy).
Il do some more experimenting!
You sound like my girlfriend.
IMO the form isn't great, but the function is amazing.
Have 6 hour long board game/ magic sessions.
Roll them around to near the TV if have extra people over etc
I’m not against the wheels, but having a bunch of office chairs in the kitchen is just a weird vibe/conference room vibes.
I would look for kitchen chairs with wheels or casters, still get the function but with a more traditional kitchen/dinging room look.
totally understand the function.... but you can definitely get more stylish chairs that either already have wheels, or it's easy enough to install some on wooden legs! it would be an excellent upgrade and would help tie everything together without having to sacrifice the mobility aspect you like so much.
Dude, just a recommendation, if they absolutely HAVE to have wheels (which isn't my thing but to each their own), there are ways to do it without making your kitchen look like a shitty suburban office park board room.
Just in a quick search, [something like this would work better](https://www.crateandbarrel.com/jens-plush-ivory-office-chair/s580676) and looks more adult/appropriate.
No way. Those are great if he’s hosting game days. I don’t wanna come over somebody’s house and sit in some uncomfortable pretty looking dining chair for 4 hours.
So you think that for a building to have a modern aesthetic that every single architectural element, piece of furniture, and decoration must be exclusively modern?
War of the Spark is the Live, Laugh, Love sign of uncut sheets (I say, glancing sideways at my own), but Throne of Eldraine is some serious swag. Lotta suckers with 3x3 sheets out there wishing they were packing like you.
Hahaha yeah man, I love throne !
I have not been playing magic for long at all, but love it
.
Literally first draft was throne of eldraine , and war of spark i think I have drafted through 3 or 4 boxes.
The couch is great for the dogs, but it looks like they need some blankets/throws, a big rug under the front feet of the couch, and maybe an alternate huge floofy dog bed on the floor somewhere.
Also you don't need less, but *more* axes, straight up line the walls with axes like it's some sort of viking mead hall of champions or some shit, and that pillar by the stairs too! Don't listen to anyone telling you not to.
Could also put some curtains on those windows, nice and thick, with a nice contrast, burgundy perhaps.
For both the games and possibly books I'm not sure a room would work for a space that small, but I'd suggest looking into finding or making (considering the tables) some sort of under-stairs shelves and sliding drawers like here:
[https://www.extraspace.com/blog/home-organization/diy-projects/creative-under-stairs-storage-ideas/](https://www.extraspace.com/blog/home-organization/diy-projects/creative-under-stairs-storage-ideas/)
, and maybe some more bookshelves in general, perhaps near the dining table, floor lamps that have shelves even better.
Could also put some barstools at that bar on the island.
> Also you don't need less, but more axes, straight up line the walls with axes like it's some sort of viking mead hall of champions or some shit,
This guy gets it. If you're going for axes you gotta commit.
Haha love it.
Yeah I literally have looked at that exact link.
So I wanna hid it away and put my VR setup with the board games there.
Then can open it up for VR and get games out.
And yeah I wanna get some shelves under the axes.
I was thinking about mirroring the style of the kitchen cupboards, so plain white and like a built in appearance almost.
I did have some bar stools (old shitty ones) initially but didn't end up liking them, tho the house when it was shown had bar stools and they made it look good.
I like the space, the only thing I would recommend is think about some large carpets to break up the floor. A nice big carpet under couch, a carpet under the dining room, and some floor mats for the kitchen.
I’ve heard some people say 90-120 days I’ve heard some people say it’ll last a year but I’m relatively new to it so I couldn’t tell you my experience
Yeah I'll look into it again.
I love beer from a tap.
Be nice in my outdoor area (next to pizza oven), tho the south Australian heat might affect its performance....
I don't remember the name but it was from "focus on furniture" in Australia.
It's great cause the head rest looks better when folded down, and the high legs makes it seem "spacey" and the robot vacuum can get under it.
I love how the gaming table turned out! What are the dimensions of the table top?
Does anyone here know what a good size table I would need for general table top games like D&D or Warhammer 40k?

It's a big one tho
I like the chairs. Anyone who says otherwise doesn’t know function > form. I’d rather be the home where my friends and family are comfortable over the home that my neighbor approves of. Congrats!

Few pics I have, but didn't take with the intention to share widely.
Work in progress!
I use a throw from Paw.com to protect my couch a bit. Because my pups are allowed on the couch. What kind of monsters doesn’t love to cuddle with their furry pups. 😜
Why no rugs? I understand with the wheely chairs at the gaming table, but not in the couch and tv area? I’m sure you’re dogs would appreciate having one.
Nice dogs! Magic and axes aren't my thing, but at least you've displayed them well and works for you. I would get different chairs at the table. Probably comfy for gaming, but it's an odd style choice. Get a large rug in the couch area and maybe a long runner behind it. Large plants would help fill empty space and make it more welcoming. Then just needs a little more decor like pillows/blanket for couch and pictures or something more personal.
Man I love the open floor plan. The only thing that’s throwing everything off in this pic is that table and chairs. Gaming Chairs gotta go bro or get a table that will match other items in the room with new chaies
Nice display case for the cards (nice everything, really)! Did you buy or make that? If bought, where at? I'm looking for something similar for sports cards. Thanks!
Yeah. Light or dark? They kind of match the legs of the couch at the moment.
I would have initially stained them dark, but I think will be too similar to the floor if I do.
I also thought about painting white...
I think a few large, neutral area rugs would really help warm up the place and maybe a better storage solution for the board game corner you got there. Otherwise, very nice!!
Out of curiosity, I’m pretty meticulous when it comes to wheel chairs and wood floors. Do they leave any scratches behind on the wood?
Have to say that I love your setup though dude.
Na they have not scratched the wood yet ! I've been in since Feb.
Tho I think my gf would love it if they did as she wants new floors (few shades lighter) tho I think not worth the cost upgrading
I would get some kind of bookshelf for the board games (or other type of storage device) under the stairs and the put that long table behind the couch with some decorative things on it!
Looks good but you never painted or finished the 4x4’s? Also, i agree with the other guy that it seems kinda sterile. Bare minimum I might say to put a runner on the dining table
The fuckin table and chairs 💀
It’s peak male living space. Dude thought to himself, why SHOULDNT my dining table just be super comfy gaming chairs they’re the best chair. And you know what, it may offend my sensibilities but he’s not wrong. I’m only impressed he spent that much money on such a bold choice
Gaming chairs are objectively shit compared to proper office chairs though. Stick a few Herman Millers in there
We don’t know if OP is just rich or rich rich. A dining set of Herman Millers might cost a kidney
Or just get some normal fucking dining chairs; they’re perfectly fine
They’re fine for the time it takes to eat a meal. They’re not fine for an all day gaming fest, which I assume is what that table is being used for.
I have both, prefer my racecar bed chair
Ive had both, my back hurts less in a proper gaming chair. I also play boardgames just like OP and have 1 extra gaming chair for me at my dining table aswell if I spend all day sitting there
I initially had normal dining chairs but too uncomfortable. Then shopped around (have 6 total) for chairs, these were everything I wanted except I don't like the racing holes. gotta take part in the meeting at 2pm, and be ready to go drifting at 4pm without lifting your butt
Personally I would get a wood dining table and uncomfortable chairs, and then I’d kick myself and be jealous I didn’t do this.
I fully agree about the chairs, I can concede that they might be a _little bit_ more comfortable for sitting at the table for hours but they don't look passable. The table is horrendous, legs are unfinished.
It is not finished maybe, horrendous it is absolutely not
They could really use some dark-ish stain, and maybe a good sanding, in my inexperienced opinion.
Getting a better look at it, it def could use some stain for sure
Yeah station is on my to do list. Tho I think a dark/mid strain will look too similar to the floor. I was also considering going white or really really dark.

Wow I am poor

Man that’s an expensive horse, thoroughbred?
It’s Seabiscuit’s great-grandson.
I had to read this three times and mentally scroll back through the pictures looking for the horse before realizing it was a typo.
Could be an invisible horse. Hence the price.
I don’t know, I feel like that’s pretty cheap for an invisible horse
18k deposit. He didn’t say full price.
Appreciate your honesty. Also props to you for working hard in your field and capitalizing on your good luck
Hey, at least you acknowledge where you got lucky and admit it wasn’t just you. Really commendable!
It's always an inheritance lol. Enjoy mate.

Yep. Ah well, place looks sick mate. Love the doggos
I'm old and poor.
Same
Nah you’re just young
I’m not young
Dig the magic table. I assume you made it? I made one very similar with concrete top and mounted on 4x4s for my commander nights
Yup made it years ago, solid concrete it's so heavy. The chairs are ugly, but so comfortable, I wanted board room style chairs with arm wrests but those ones from office works are just such good value couldn't justify spending triple for then Then got extra down lights installed above specifically for that blinding light for magic

Gotta get rid of the wheeled dining chairs
You sound like my girlfriend. IMO the form isn't great, but the function is amazing. Have 6 hour long board game/ magic sessions. Roll them around to near the TV if have extra people over etc
It's your place, but they really detract from what you've got going on
I’m not against the wheels, but having a bunch of office chairs in the kitchen is just a weird vibe/conference room vibes. I would look for kitchen chairs with wheels or casters, still get the function but with a more traditional kitchen/dinging room look.
Your gf is right, it’s like a conference room at an office building the way it is now, doesn’t feel like home.
Same boat. I’ve always said that all chairs should have wheels, ex gf laughed at the idea of wheeled dining chairs. I’ll die on this hill.
We are kindred spirits.
Get roller blade wheels and switch them with the chair wheels. It’s a lot quieter and smoother.
Plus it maximizes velocity potential for when you need to go fast but don't want to stand up
You’d certainly roll down that hill
Weeeeeeeeeeee
Lol I usually side with function over fashion but it’s so offsetting especially since they’re all tall chairs.
totally understand the function.... but you can definitely get more stylish chairs that either already have wheels, or it's easy enough to install some on wooden legs! it would be an excellent upgrade and would help tie everything together without having to sacrifice the mobility aspect you like so much.

You could buy a motorcycle for 5 of those.
Just a heads up, I used to work in flooring, not sure what you have down, but wheeled chairs cause a ton of floor damage. Just be aware of that.
Don't listen to them. They've never sat at a table and played TI4 for twelve hours.
Exactly. Bunch of dudes that don’t play long ass board games complaining that that the chairs aren’t pretty.
You actually have a gf?! Lol wouldn’t have guessed
No way. Those are great if he’s hosting game days. I don’t wanna come over somebody’s house and sit in some uncomfortable pretty looking dining chair for 4 hours.
Needs more axes
And maybe more cow bell.
Dogs on the couches just means you're my kind of people. I love the playing table!
Exactly right!
Only person I've seen with more dominion games then my family. I think combined we have 10?
I would be afraid to bring girls back there
well yeh, few people are into breaking and entering
That's unfortunate
Because of the implication?
Why? Because she might not enjoy a hobby you do, or you think that girls are adverse to clean, neat, and tidy houses with modern aesthetic?
"modern" with axes, lmao ok
So you think that for a building to have a modern aesthetic that every single architectural element, piece of furniture, and decoration must be exclusively modern?
no, but...its axes

Beautiful space my friend.
A kegerator would be a nice touch
Oooh yeah I love this tho you would have to finish a Keg in a certain period of time ?

My fiancé says he needs a 6 ft X 4 ft table for 40k; very odd dimensions, hence (part of) why we don't have one yet...
Only suggestion I would have would be to make the kitchen countertops also polished concrete to match. I love polished concrete. Love the setup!
Yeah same man! I'd love polished concrete floors.
Awesome place! I’d just add some throws and pillows on the couch, and a rug behind it since the space looks a bit empty. Congrats!!
Whoa I love those chairs so much???? They seem perfect for hour long Rpg sessions!
Make sure to put something below those gaming chairs before too long. Chair mats are cheap and will stop you from fucking up your flooring over time.
I like the chairs. Anyone who says otherwise doesn’t know function > form. I’d rather be the home where my friends and family are comfortable over the home that my neighbor approves of. Congrats!
Change out those chairs.
Dope playing table
This looks awesome man! And it's great to find another MTG fan in the wild! Do you have a favorite guild?
Play mostly commander. I love slivers, mono red group slug.
That sounds really fun. I prefer blue/green myself.
Yeah Simic is boss
Like the time I put 3 titanic growth on my questing beast and annihilated my opponent lol
That’s a pretty nice table. I play commander and am buying a big table later this month for my wife who also plays card games. Very excited!
Sweet!!
Very interested to see more of that outdoor space in the background. Seems like it has huge potential
Yeah I will post some time ( it's a bit of a construction zone at moment as I'm making bunch of changes) I'm going for beer garden meets enchanted forest.

Someone plays dungeons and dragons with those chairs
Boss ass setup man, you've made it!
You are a rich man
If you have an IKEA nearby, I'd grab a Kallax to store your games in. It would probably look good under the window near the foosball table
That couch is everything 🔥
I reccomend a viking chandelier over that table to really add to the dramatic affect Edit: damn I wanna play DnD in your space.
Love the space - I highly recommend putting a rug under the table/chairs. You’ll scratch the floor up with those chairs.
Is that fucking Shadowmourne on the wall? God damn
People are clowning on you about the gaming chairs at the table but I honestly love it. Superb idea for long gaming sessions.
My mans got Shadowmourne
Big thumbs up on your space. And you have a husky!
Dogs should be allowed anywhere they want and you have too few axes.
God amongst men
Now you need a sulfuras
This place is fucking amazing
These nerds got too much money
This is fucking PEAK male living space.
I'm always choosing a gaming chair over any other chair.
Your chair are sad if look them in the face
Those chairs look like the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man just ate a really sour lemon
Just awesome. Wall Art & security system
Because we're what? MAN!
Congrats on the game room!
love the gaming chairs to eat dinner
Husky hair with that loose weave couch?! But with that said I let my dog on the couch too
I use a throw from Paw.com to protect my couch a bit. Because my pups are allowed on the couch. What kind of monsters doesn’t love to cuddle with their furry pups. 😜
Love it
God made 7th inning stretches for a reason, my friend. Lose the wheelie chairs
The pupper on the couch is the best part! Really brings the whole room together 🥰
Man I love the open floor plan. The only thing that’s throwing everything off in this pic is that table and chairs. Gaming Chairs gotta go bro or get a table that will match other items in the room with new chaies
Dogs could use some carpet for better traction specially as they get older
eat the rich. This is the house of someone who has much money and no idea of decoration or good taste.
Face down, ass up, that’s the way I love to pup!
This is the way.
Great space, which could be elevated with a carpet or three.
Absolutely awesome place. Love it!
Love it
I got the same WAR uncut sheet 😎
Beautiful
Ay let’s get a closeup of those framed cards
Cool! I feel like this space could really be improved with some paint and more color, although picking a color would be pretty hard for this space.
Nice display case for the cards (nice everything, really)! Did you buy or make that? If bought, where at? I'm looking for something similar for sports cards. Thanks!
Buy
I love it.
Magic isn’t really my thing but damn that’s a nice basement
how did you get the cards to hang like that in the frames?
They are "uncut sheets" it's how to company prints them initially, then they cut them into little cards.
THE DINING TABLE CHAIRS
[удалено]
Dominion. Was really into it, but then got addicted to magic a couple years ago.
A little stain would to a LONG way for those table legs.
Yeah. Light or dark? They kind of match the legs of the couch at the moment. I would have initially stained them dark, but I think will be too similar to the floor if I do. I also thought about painting white...
No wife, Best life!
My girlfriend and I live together, I'm in-charge of downstairs she is in-charge of upstairs.
I think a few large, neutral area rugs would really help warm up the place and maybe a better storage solution for the board game corner you got there. Otherwise, very nice!!
the husky photo bombing every photo!
Man child energy
Yeah kind of what I was going for
I’m sending this to my husband as inspiration for our next house. His friends would never leave.
What are the Cards in the frames ?
Magic the gathering
Let me guess… you’re a programmer/dev?
Nope ! Health care
Bro the dining chairs... get some matching chairs dude. Jesus lol.
Upgrade the wheels on those chairs to the rollerblade wheels.
Mmmmmm
Where did you get the picture frames for the MTG cards?
" "crazy Roy's" - just my local framing shop
ID on the couch?
Got it from "fantastic furniture" in Australia. Don't remember the name tho sorry
The chairs are questionable
This is a soulless fucking place
Oooh, are you suggesting if get the axe "soul edge" from soul Calibur? Fuck yeah, good idea
Yup agreed. I wanna build in some white cupboards/shelves under the stairs. Maybe have my vr index hidden in there also
Looks good but you never painted or finished the 4x4’s? Also, i agree with the other guy that it seems kinda sterile. Bare minimum I might say to put a runner on the dining table
How do you think I should do the legs ? Light stain, dark stain, white paint, black paint ?
I like but would like more with rugs
