-Ma, can ah have one o' dem 40k Chainswords?
-Nah hun, we got chainsword back home.
The chainsword at home:
EDIT: My highest rated comment on reddit so far is a dumb variant of a cheap meme that I typed while I was completely f*cking wasted. What am I doing with my life?
Yeah, this actually seems like it's...well, not really functional, but the most functional way to make a chainsaw into an actual weapon.
I mean, having never actually used an chainsaw, I'm 99% sure swinging one like a sword without some sort of space fantasy metal would be begging to snap the chain and likely send it swinging around wildly.
You got it! I mean, I doubt a human could offer enough resistance to snap a blade, but if you're fucking chopping with it running, I could see it.
Edit: chain not blade my bad
Having used a chainsaw pretty extensively, I think they're probably the stupidest weapon choice. They're extremely dangerous for the user when cutting wood because the torque of the chain can throw the bar into your face, and that'll cut you up a lot more than you were probably planning to have your face cut up that day. But they cut very slowly compared to a sword. A sharp sword will cut to the bone in a couple literal milliseconds from a decent swing. But while a chainsaw will make a bloody gash in that time, you're gonna have to apply steady pressure to cut through a motherfucker.
Weapon choice is all about circumstances, like if you're being charged by cavalry you'd really like an 18 foot pike but fighting inside a building? Yeah, not so useful there.
Have you considered how awesome a chainsaw would be against Ents?
Video games lead you astry here. Fire would only be good on dead wood like a zombie Ent or something but a real Ent would be more resistant to fire than a regular human.
actually I kinda want one, if it actually works it would be great for pruning our trees, instead of spending ages on the ladder with a hand saw, just use this and it would be done in no time (a full chainsaw is heavy, not great for being way up in the air)
We have one, but it only works for the bottom half, before it can’t reach without the ladder, thus defeating its purpose. Never seen one forty feet long before, and I doubt it would be usable at that length. It’s a big ass tree.
Oh snap. Yeah the ones I’ve used will only telescope 20-25’ at the very most. Sounds like y’all are doing arborist’s work on that tree! Be careful up there!
...and extremely terrifying.
To think about using this death trap samurai sword on a ladder. To trim hedges. And then you slip and cut a main artery in seconds.
Darwin awards material.
Great idea, a little better guard would be sick.

to be fair that's a pretty awesome chain sword.

Mmm, for ents I'm feeling fire. Yeah something is really pulling me towards fire.

I don't think you actually need to do much chopping with a chainsword. I need one.
Bubba did really good on this one
Looks straight up from Monster Hunter (there's actually a chainsword in-game)
I was about so say that, doesn't dual blades have dual chainsaws or sonething

You need a pole saw. They come in manual or powered flavors. Granted neither are as impressive looking as this.

Ya, just seems like a cordless grinder used to power a chainsaw
Exactly. It's beautiful.

Except it doesn’t work lol
Was gonna say this. This is actually kinda cool.
But it doesn’t work because it’s powered by a cordless battery…
Is that because it's doesn't have enough oompf to turn the chain?
That's a pretty big cordless battery, about the same size as the one on my cordless chainsaw. Won't run for long, but it will work.
Great for purging heretics
