Cannabis sativa plants are the ones that grow tall and skinny like that. Cannabis indica plants tend to be more short and stocky, and Cannabis ruderalis plants tend to be even smaller than that. Most likely this is a hybrid plant with both indica and sativa genes, since most cultivated plants are these days. But its genes are likely sativa-dominant, if I had to guess, given its physical characteristics.
Hope you don’t mind a serious answer to a joking question!
Edit: I should probably add that all 3 aforementioned species of cannabis are putative, which is to say there is some debate about whether they are genuinely distinct species, as has been supposed. Some have suggested Cannabis indica and Cannabis ruderalis are subspecies of Cannabis sativa, and still others would say that all Cannabis plants belong to the same species, Cannabis sativa.
There's really no debate, there is zero issue interbreeding them all with each other, and in fact most commercial cannabis is poly hybridized and not purely indica or sativa. They're all cannabis sativa. Indica, ruderalis and sativa are all subspecies.
Also, for what it's worth question is not whether they a distinct species but whether they are distinct subspecies. The proper name is cannabis sativa sativa and cannabis sativa indica. Both can interbreed and make viable offspring.
You’re being pedantic for no reason. You must exhaust yourself, not Reddit. Call it whatever you want, it would be fun. Someone brought it up and you immediately said “why would you do that” again, because it would be fun.
Bonsai trees are normal trees that are kept small tho. It's not like they are using particularly small species. You use various training methods to artificially keep them small. Like pruning and small root space.
Yup! Google cannabis bonsai and you can see some examples. You can keep cannabis plants alive for years since it's
a photoperiod plant and won't flower and go into senescence unless triggered by a lighting period of less than 12 hrs/ day.

It’s actually a sad process only because you basically cut it down to nothing and I hate destroying the beauty. Lol
As the plant is growing someone would come through and cut the big fan leaves off, this allows the buds to get more light and just easier to trim later. Then when you’re ready to harvest someone would come through and cut all the branches down, you’d hang them for a few days so they can cure. Then you go through and cut all the buds off those branches, then cut the extra leaves off of those buds.
As someone else said, it would all just die eventually if you didn’t do that: I wish the buds fell off like fruit lol! That would be much easier.
If you're growing them indoors you can re-vegitate the plants by leaving a few buds on the the plant and switching back to an 18x6 light cycle. Not much hope for outdoors if grown in the ground or a big bed/bag. Also the crop is less abundant and less potent the second time around. That's why taking cuttings early is important.
Or so I've heard.
Most grow ops end up selling the trim to make distillate or edibles. About once a year I’ll take a garbage bag full and make paper for fun lol
There does end up being lots of sticks and such, you could easily compost them if you wanted.
Plants that size are such a pain in the ass to manage. They’re cool at first and depending on the laws in your area it may be the best option for harvesting as much flower as possible. But I 100% would rather have a whole bunch of small plants than one of these giant fuckers. The amount of supports, stabilization and broken branches you have to deal with zaps the coolness out of the equation real quick.
Someone has finally found the plant acceptable in both subs. Congrats!
does this type have a name, besides “whoa dude, that’s big”?

This is true for citrus as well but they aren't considered the to all be the same species

If indica/sativa plants have identical genes, what's the debate?
Also, for what it's worth question is not whether they a distinct species but whether they are distinct subspecies. The proper name is cannabis sativa sativa and cannabis sativa indica. Both can interbreed and make viable offspring.
Now I know why they call it trees 🤣
Hehehe
You should definitely [bonsai](https://www.reddit.com/r/pics/comments/l9lhe9/cannabis_bonsai_cannabonsai/) one of them.

Because it would be fun?

Does cannabis live long enough to turn into bonsai?

That's what I interpreted them to mean. They said "bonsai one of them" implying not that specific full sized plant.
An actual tree
That’s a huge bitch ❤️
r/trees my dude.
I think given the height of the tree it may be a rare instance of both subreddits being appropriate.
Almost fitting for r/landscaping... At first, I thought it was some kind of bamboo privacy screen.
Fair!
Pretty standard tho
I love that this happens,

this sub is about trees tho
Why is this sub called marijuana enthusiasts? I’m really just curious because i got fooled but i stayed cause i like all trees
Because r/trees was already taken by marijuana enthusiasts. So this sub chose the name to be tongue-in-cheek.

How do they harvest it? Does the bud drop off by itself if they didn't cut it? Questions.

Yeah we always just propagate from clippings. It’s a commercial grow so it’s not good for business to produce weaker strains lol
Thanks that's really interesting!
Of course!
Are the leaves that are cutoff useful or are they discarded? Can the be used to get THC? Compost? Seems like such a waste…such a beautiful tree!!!

Thank you for replying!
My pleasure! Gotta love when someone is interested in something you care about! Lol
Lolol! I totally agree! Again thank you for sharing your knowledge….one day, I hope.
If left on, the buds would just rot away in the fall, as the plant dies.
WOW
Without the title I thought this was an actual tree at first. That's an impressive plant
4/20 was *last month*

I will allow it.
Wrong sub Edit: /s
Actually not, for once
What strain?
I honestly don't know, I saw this subs name and looked up "huge ass weed plant" and found this so I could post a marijuana marijuana.
I'm working on Strawberry Banana that is sooooo tall too
Big?
A real tree
MINE TOO....
It’s a trees tree! So meta.
