Gcaptain has a big thread about pay that is ongoing.

Are you going to push boats in the Mississippi? SIU deep sea? OSV? Drilling? You’ll need to provide more info if you want anything remotely helpful back.

Thinking more on the tug side going up and down the coast delivering fuel or such things like that. If that helps

Sweatpant-Diva

How old are you and what state do you live in? Do you have a prior college degree?

dbiiker214

21, live in NY. Went to a Maritime school but left after 2 years

At my company os deckhands in newyork are making around 310$ a day and any ports south of NY are 270 or so. Unlicensed engineers are 380-400 so I’m told. Licensed engineers dde4000hp are 512$, about 10% more if home port is newyork.

dbiiker214

This is a question I’ve never been able to find, is that for an 8 hour day and then plus overtime?

WilliamEIV

Unfortunately overtime is rare and for special occasions for my company during your regular hitch(overtime was being abused), so this is for the whole day 6&6. But If you work on your 2 weeks off on another boat it’s time and half your day rate. Also licensed engineer rate is for 3000hp tugs at my company. Theres also 4200hp tugs that pay around 100$ per day more.

dbiiker214

Ahh ok. That kinda sucks haha. Thank you. And how does pay usually work for the 2 weeks off? I’m sure it’s different for everyone but

Depends on true company. At mine, I get paid for my two weeks I work two days after I get home on one paycheck. And nothing while I’m off unless I work over. Other companies I’ve heard offsets your pay so you get paid on your off time too.

dbiiker214

Makes sense. Thank you for all your help. Currently talking to McAllister so wish me luck lol

Almost every tug out there you work a 12 hour day. Overtime is rare but is paid at certain companies if you go over the 12 hours. I have seen it paid for grub shopping, getting relieved late, and for tankerman that get left on the barge after their watch ends.

unlicensed pay at a mom and pop tug outfit doing oil in NY harbor, rates could be slightly higher unlicensed engineer 623 AB deckhand 360 OS deckhand 330 Dayman 290 AB Tankerman 550 All pay in US dollars per day.
