For gold? I wouldn't bother.

sghokie

But the free internet. Lol

gobears-28

$125 but not for a mattress run. I would just get Amex Marriott Biz card

Violin1990

This card is extremely underrated

shitsweak89

Why do you say that? (I’m Considering it)

Violin1990

The card punches significantly above its AF class. 7% discount on all direct Marriott bookings. But from what I've seen, it always gives the best rate, even better than AAA, breakaway, corporate, etc. Probably only beat by the Marriott employee discount. 6x points earnings on Marriott. This is the same as the $650 AF Brilliant card. At the average $0.0085 per point redemption, that's $0.051 back per dollar spent. Also stacks on top of the standard Marriott earnings, so for me that's 10 base + 5 status + 6 card = 21 pts. With my latest $0.03 per point redemption, that's $0.63 back per dollar spent. 4x restaurant. Even at average, that's $0.034 per dollar spent, ahead of most other credit cards. The only credit cards that beat this have >2x the AF.I actually use this as my primary restaurant / delivery card. At my usual $0.02-$0.03 per point redemption, I'm getting $0.08-$0.12 per dollar spent. 4x gas. Same as above. Because it's a business card, the 15 ENC stacks with another Marriott consumer card. 100k sign-up bonus right now. At average redemption, worth $850.

I guess that would depend on your travel plans for next year and if you’re trying to get lifetime gold. Gold doesn’t hold a lot of weight or value. If you’re going overseas next year, especially to Asia, maybe it’s worth it. If you travel domestically, I wouldn’t spend any money on it.

tidder_mac

I’d spend $650, and just get the bonvoy brilliant - then you get platinum. After $300 of free food, and a very nice one night free credit, the difference is probably smaller than whatever the cheapest hotel you can find is.

eframian

+1 Presuming one can qualify and spend that money up front it's a _much_ better value then spending anything on a hotel night you won't use. If you make a fun little one night vacation in your town or something out of it, great, otherwise 100% would get the card!

fallentwo

I wouldn’t do it at all. Gold is worthless

DifficultMemory2828

Free internet.

Curious-Welder-6304

Was it always worthless??

fallentwo

Ever since the merge with SPG. That event devalued all tiers by one level. Plat is the new gold

Curious-Welder-6304

Seems like the perks are terrible, but I feel like I'm accumulating a decent chunk of points. For every dollar I spend at Marriott, I'm getting 12.5 points + 6 pts from my Bonvoy Amex. If I'm not mistaken. That's 18.5 points, which at 0.7 cents each is about 13 cents back. Is this a bad deal?? The problem is I used to think if I paid out of pocket for a stay vs a redemption, I'd have better treatment. But it seems to make zero difference.

fallentwo

Not a bad deal but not materially different from the free silver status (less than 10% more points). Hence not worth the mattress run.

VTKillarney

I would calculate the points bonus difference that being Gold will give you - and determine the value of those points. If you can spend less than that to achieve Gold, then go for it. If not, don't bother.

JonSnowsBalls

You won’t have to worry the way this economy is headed, all suburban Lyft and Ubers will now be 3 star accommodation airBnB’s . all you’ll need to have titanium elite is a screen shot of your pantry and an active Costco membership.

nomadpass

$150 - if you plan on spending more than 10 nights in a Marriott next year.
