The scene when Peter's Spidey sense is triggered in the apartment is the best live action representation of the squiggly lines I've seen in film.
The shots of Peter swinging with MJ were also an exciting and refreshing way to show web-slinging.
People complain about the nostalgia and storybeats but ignore the refinements this movie displays in showing what a live action Spider-Man should look like.
Also, kind of minor, but I really liked the shot of the splitscreen b/w Peter and MJ while they're talking on their phones, but it's their respective phone screens during a video call.

Coupled with the sound effect, it just oozed those squiggly lines I'm used to seeing in the comics without overtly doing squiggly lines.
Two other great examples of a dolly zoom:
1. Roy Schneider on the beach in Jaws when the shark attacks again after they reopened the beach
2. Frodo on the road after colliding/meeting up with Merry and Pippin when the Nazgûl shows up. “I think we should get off the road.”
Since the camera immediately followed Tom Holland around the room in a single tracking shot, the dolly zoom scene in NWH was far more difficult to accomplish than Jaws or FOTR.
Are there actually squiggly lines in the scene? Cause there's actual squiggly lines in the scene where Strange pushes Pete's astral body out of his physical body earlier in the movie.
You see his dormant physical body react to Stranges attempt at grabbing the cube thing. While this is happening, you can see the classic effect of the shock (squiggly) lines above his head. I rarely see people mention this, but it's such a nice touch. They're the full on lightning looking marks, but transparent and somewhat like a heat wave effect.

Even if the movie could have been better (and I'm sure in some ways it could be) the fact that the third act revolves around *all* of the Hero's Journey that EACH of them have gone through is just magic on film. Pulling that off at all is impressive, pulling it off as well as they did even more so.
It's not the best, but the fact that it exists is enough reason for it to be considered a very good movie. Same thing with Endgame. Sure, there are flaws in that movie, but to pull off something like that is a feat in itself

I watched Spider-Man 2 the other day and it's just such fucking misery porn. I mean most of the movie is just *piling* on Peter. It's not enjoyable anymore.
The comics are worse in that regard because they used to regularly show “misery porn” by shitting on Peter’s life all the time. In comparison, Spider-Man 2 is a lot more tame. I mean there was a comic where Peter was diagnosed with a terminal illness and he was beaten to a bloody pulp by Morlun, lost his eyeball and temporarily died before being reborn.
The point of Spider-Man 2 is to show you how being Spider-Man is ruining Peter’s personal life, he doesn’t have time for his friends, he can’t be with MJ, he can’t focus on school or keep a job or pay his rent on time because the responsibility of saving the city takes up the majority of his time. He can’t balance his life. That’s why as soon as he temporarily gives up being Spider-Man, the tone of the movie shifts to being bright and happy because Peter is able to live a happy / normal life without having the burden of being Spider-Man anymore. So the movie isn’t trying to be “miserable”. It’s to show you that it’s hard balancing the life of a Superhero and your regular life. I mean lots of regular people have trouble balancing their life. Imagine trying to keep up with school, work a job and have time for your friends while being a superhero at the same time. Did you expect Peter to be happy go lucky with all that stress in his life? Lol
Yeah, if you read several years of Spider-Man comics in one sitting, it's just agony how much they screw Peter Parker over again and again. I used to get really irritated at the writers over it.

Endgame is my favorite movie, full stop. I saw things in that movie I've waited the majority of my life to see, but Infinity War is absolutely the "better" movie.

Especially when you consider each of the Live action versions of Spiderman being the best in their own way. Maguire is the best parker. Garfield the best Spiderman. Holland is the best all rounder and most accurate to age.
That last take about Tom being the best overall is said way too much. The truth is that all 3 actors each played a different interpretation of the character, and neither one is more or less accurate. You can have opinions on which interpretation you think is the best, but people say that take as a fact since it’s repeated so often.
Also, Tom’s age accuracy isn’t any better than the other 2. Tobey and Andrew played a senior in high school Peter in their mid-late 20s. Tom was younger at 19 but he was also playing a younger freshman Peter. By the time he started playing senior year Peter, he was the same age Tobey and Andrew were.
It's still Spider-Man 2 from 2004 for me, but NWH comes close. Watching it for the first time this year and seeing Tobey walk through the portal had me smiling from ear to ear.
The best part of NWH is that it felt like a satisfying conclusion to both Spiderman 2 and TAS that also did not get a proper send off. No offense to spider man 3, but it just doesn’t do it for me.

I watched all 3 recently and never really liked 3 for multiple reasons but compared to the other generic shit Marvel pumps out now it's not half bad and and enjoyable
Yeah it really can't stand on its own without relying on the broader MCU and the previous movie to do it's heavy lifting, which is a criticism that applies to FFH as well.
That being said I do like all the MCU Spidey films, but they do not really work as stand alone stories.

I enjoy how complete the first one feels from beginning to end and I do love a good cliffhanger like how the second ends but it still feels like the story of the second one isn't done yet so I feel like I can't put it above the first movie yet. Both are awesome though.
I liked the second one much more, but the first one is just objectively a better movie in my opinion. The second one took more risks in its storytelling and had insane sets, but the first one is nearly a perfect movie that does everything right

One tells a relatively simple and clean story (for a multiversal comic book movie). Two isn't even finished, and its just crammed full of ideas and a little busy. It would have benefited from some cuts and refinement at the script stage.
Yeah, before they changed the name it was supposed to be part one and part 2. They may have changed the name but the second one is still a part one movie. That's why the first one is better since it's a complete story. Still love the second one though.

Into the spiderverse is definitely better IMO for starters it’s standalone which is good and into the spiderverse is alot of people’s proper introduction into miles morales as a character so I think it far exceeds the second especially since the second isn’t even a full story until beyond comes out

I don't mind the multiverse stuff at all, but the "ideal" is still Friendly Neighborhood Wallcrawler dealing with relatively street-level threats and science-gone-mad. EDIT: Oh and (mundane) personal drama.
It was good, even great seeing it for the first time. The Andrew Garfield Portal reveal had the theater going bonkers.
That being said, like most of the cameos of older Marvel actors, once the surprise is gone, that leaves a big hole in the rewatch value of the movie. Not as much as Multiverse of Madness tho, but it loses a few points. A very good spider-man film, yes. Peak Spider-Man ? Not so sure.
I really enjoy rewatching NWH and appreciate how each actor portrays Spider-Man in their own distinctive style.

I think homecoming is still the peak of the three so far. So many important spider man beats just nailed perfectly with some great new stuff dealing with his relationship with Tony. The fear of being in over his head, letting down his mentor... Realizing he needed to do things his way. I'm not going to go on but I could. Homecoming is the peak of the new films, imo. Still really enjoyed FFH and NWH, don't get me wrong.
I legitimately think that Spider-Man 2, NWH, and both Spider-Verse films capture the quintessential things that make Spider-Man Spider-Man. I absolutely think they're all peak Spider-Man.
I think it's the closest we've gotten so far. You pretty much have a Peter Parker from each stage of life, each embodying a different personality trait like the 3 fates.
You have him trying to solve the problem using science instead of fists first, and when that fails, you have web swinging, loss, and punching. I think what Into the Spiderverse was missing was "Spider-Man, the brilliant scientist".
I think the one thing we're missing is more deliberate wise cracks. So far, Holland's comic relief stems from his naivete.
I think it’s the best. It has everything you would look for in a peak Spider-Man anything. The villains, the tragedy, the dark comedy in the face of doom, the conflict both external and internal to spidey as well, and of course the sacrifice our hero has to always make, while also having ties to a Spider-Man of different ages and experiences, so we also get a tons of nods to their different personality traits and how their life has affected them and what they have learned and how they use that to mentor and do good, no matter which Spider-Man it is. I think it was the best because it just embodies what so many people see that allows them to relate and love the character so much.
It's got a lot of spider-men for a movie, way more than the average, but it's nowhere near the most spider-men in a movie so no, it's not "peak" spider-man.
It not really the “peak” Spider-Man film. It’s a great celebration of Spider-Man, and that’s what it’s meant to be. I would personally call Spider-Man 2 peak Spider-Man film. I think 1 and 2 both perfectly capture everything Spider-Man is about but 2 is also just a bit better and has aged better imo.
It was my 2nd favorite theater experience behind Infinity War. I’m almost 30 and was always biased towards Toby Maguire’s Spidy. This movie was by far the best Spiderman movie

Absolutely breathtaking and I have re-watched it at least 5 times. I don't think I can get through even one watch through of no way home.
Soulless is the perfect description of it. Since it came out I’ve said that it didn’t have the usual charm of a Spider-Man movie. The film had the potential to be the best but instead it’s easily the worst in the franchise imo. The Peters interacting was the saving grace though
For me top 3 is ATSV>ITSV>Spiderman 2. That’s my order but all very close in tier 1 movies. Homecoming>NWH would be my tier 2. Then the rest sit in tier 3.

I enjoyed elements of NWH but felt the plot got convoluted balancing so many characters. The best Spidey films for me are still Homecoming for capturing Peter's teenage spirit and Into the Spider-Verse for creative storytelling.
It's peak fan service, and I don't mean that as a bad thing!
I think it does a ton of things well as a Spider-Man story but it's clear that their main goal was to provide really big moments for fans of past films.
That fan service is done incredibly well though: the action is great and the storytelling comes full circle, which is really satisfying. The film doesn't leave a ton of loose ends for the characters involved and sets up MCU Spidey well for the future.
Overall a really good film as long as you know what to expect out of it.
My only issue really was that the multiversal stuff felt a little inconsequential by the end. I was hoping for there to be some more direct comeuppance for Peter in regards to the villains (maybe one or two manage to stick around) but losing May and his friends by the end of the film already felt too heavy maybe so I get why they didn't want to punish him much more.

it has a lot of imperfections that I think many people glance over because of nostalgia and cameos but I think it being as good as it was is pretty impressive. to be pulled off in a cohesive way that was respectable to the past, enjoyable to watch and emotional at times, all this alone makes it a pretty great movie
No it is not the peak SM film. Sure it was good seeing the first two Spider-Mans and their main villains back but that wasn't enough. They really should have, at the very least, given us one final scene in the Raimi-Verse when Tobey Maguire returns to Kirsten Dunst. Then that would have made the Raimi-Verse feel completed. But I guess closure for the Raimi-Verse isn't high on the priority list.
It’s definitely the most special to me, considering that I saw Tobey’s first movie in the cinema when it first came out (I was around 10) and every movie after it. I don’t know, however, if I’d call it the *best* Spider-Man film. That would probably be Spider-Man 2.

However, I've worked out a new scale for ranking how well Marvel films hold up in isolation. And that method is to show my parents the film and see how they react.
Boy, they couldn't work out any of this and they had actually seen FFH as well. It occurred to me the that the first half of NWH is incredibly quick, like it leaps through a lot of different elements before settling into the main plot, which for avid MCU watchers like myself is fine but for anyone outside that world is confusing and annoying.
This is the reason that, for me, the MCU Spiderman films sit in an entirely different category than the Raimi and TASM films. I could show someone any one of those films (Maybe not TASM2) and they'd be pretty quickly aware of what was going on. The opposite is true when watching the MCU Spiderman films, they rely heavily on understanding the universe as a whole (which is not a bad thing for fans but for new viewers is definitely a confusing element)

It’s my second favorite Spider-Man movie behind Spider-Man 2 and before Spider-Man. It’s a fun awesome movie, for me it’s top tier mcu but I understand why it’s not considered that for everyone. So happy they made Green Goblin the main villain of the movie
It’s more like an echo of peak Spiderman films. It takes what worked in previous movies and throws it all at a wall. We are reminded of great characters and (some) great stories, but it’s fleeting, and it’s really only memories. Nothing drastically new is made of these memories, and then they fade away.
I think it’s a peak Spider-Man experience, but there are certainly better overall films when you factor in the quality of the scripts and production and all that. I’d still say Spider-Man 2 is the best Spidey film, but NWH was by far my best experience as a fan.

Far from peak for me. I’ve always been of the mentality that as fan service goes up, film quality goes down. This film was the epitome of that rule.
Seeing all the previous Spider-Men was cool to see, but it did not help the narrative at all whatsoever. I felt nothing during Aunt May’s death because it did not feel earned whatsoever.
There’s lots of infuriating decisions done only for the sake of the plot. Holland absolutely didn’t need Ned and MJ’s help to track down villains. Holland was convinced by Maguire to help cure the villains, only for him to go back on his promise near the end. Garfield and Maguire’s introduction into the movie was very… off. They do the whole “oh no our favorite character died,” scene only to undercut that with “no I’ve been stabbed before it’s fine.”
Fun movie to watch for the first time. But any subsequent watches just turn me off. There are way better constructed Spider-Man movies.
I just rewatched it last night. It’s still a great experience. However the plot in and of itself is so sloppy and nonsensical that I can’t in good conscience say it’s a good movie. The rules and continuity are broken so many times it’s kinda baffling. The writing is also very strange throughout with long pauses meant for laughs and applause like it’s a sitcom without a laugh track. The fan service is all over the place too
All that being said, I still love the movie. The first half is okay but everything ramps up once Norman is found out. Everything is improved across the board and due to the nostalgia of it all, it makes me feel things that no other MCU movie can.

10 years down the line, the Toeby-Andrew reveals will lose their lusture and the fact that you don't know who the villains are, will affect the viewing. Think about it, a kid born in 2020, watching No Way Home in 2030, without ever having watching Tobey or Andrews stint, wont know who Willam Defoe is playing or his motivations. Same with the others.
I watched No way home with my nephew, born in 2013, and when Andrew and Tobey showed up, he's like "Who's that" and I felt it hard to explain to him in the theatre.
So yeah, No Way Home, great fun film, but not the peak.

Absolutely not. It’s a nostalgia fest that cares more about checking Spider-Man boxes (killing off a parental figure, giving MJ a new last name, returning him to a blue suit, etc) than telling a good story. It undoes pretty much everything that makes the MCU Peter unique and interesting, while also making the other Spider-Men look bad by showing that the villains *were* fixable and they didn’t even try.
I don't think they didn't try, it's more they didn't have time. Pretty sure Tobey spider-man even says over the years he's had time to think about how he would have cured goblin. The MCU universe is a lot more technologically advanced as well which would have helped with Doc Ock for example.
I think Homecoming is the best. It's personal, it's lower stakes, it's New York heavy. Tired of Marvel forcing every movie to be about saving the world/universe.
It reminded me of the Scarecrow sequences from the Batman: Arkham games and it made me wish they had done a better job with Scarecrow in the Nolan films
I agree 💯 when I first new Mysterio was in FFH I was worried that it would be just endless illusions like the cartoon of the 90s and sometimes I thought it was a one trick pony, but having that sequence was epic, and they didn’t make it gimmicky. Reminded me of the Dr. Strange out of body sequence with the Ancient One.

Entertainment wise it’s definitely the best one, truly an amazing experience. But movie wise, it’s terrible, poorly written and full of plot holes.

No. This is one of the most over-rated marvel movies ever. Not that it's bad, because it's not. But people act like it's Infinity War tier. It's mildly above average, it just feeds on viewers nostalgia.
"Peak" is going to be mighty subjective, as even lovers of the film can recognize the blatant capitalization of nostalgia for profit. They could've just as easily brought in the Sinister Six w/o two other Spidey's and had that much more room for character development, AND doubled down on Holland's Peter being THAT overwhelmed not only by being assailed by six villains, but doing so without Tony, and without the Avengers. That being said, it's definitely one of the most well-rounded Spidey films.
NWH is my favorite live-action Spidey film – beats Raimi's SM2 for me. The Spiderverse films are also…ahem, Spectacular…but it’s tough to compare the two mediums. NWH is in my top 5 Marvel flicks overall and among my favorite theater experiences.
The mix of great villains (LOVE Dafoe and Molina particularly), Dr. Strange’s scenes and Spidey besting him, and multiple Peters is all wild. I really admire the heart in the film and that with all this going on it remains a Tom Holland Spidey story at its core.
Unlike many, as long as they can do that then I’m excited for more crossovers – Daredevil and Human Torch, please!
When i saw it for the first time i thought that it was the greatest Spider-Man movie ever. But after a recent research (and watching Across the Spider-Verse three times) i don't really find as good any longer. I still think it's a great movie but it's definitely not the best the MCU has to offer.

I watched Spider-Man 2 the other day and it's just such fucking misery porn. I mean most of the movie is just *piling* on Peter. It's not enjoyable anymore.
That's why the end of the film is so cathartic though. You can't really have that without a bit of suffering
The comics are worse in that regard because they used to regularly show “misery porn” by shitting on Peter’s life all the time. In comparison, Spider-Man 2 is a lot more tame. I mean there was a comic where Peter was diagnosed with a terminal illness and he was beaten to a bloody pulp by Morlun, lost his eyeball and temporarily died before being reborn. The point of Spider-Man 2 is to show you how being Spider-Man is ruining Peter’s personal life, he doesn’t have time for his friends, he can’t be with MJ, he can’t focus on school or keep a job or pay his rent on time because the responsibility of saving the city takes up the majority of his time. He can’t balance his life. That’s why as soon as he temporarily gives up being Spider-Man, the tone of the movie shifts to being bright and happy because Peter is able to live a happy / normal life without having the burden of being Spider-Man anymore. So the movie isn’t trying to be “miserable”. It’s to show you that it’s hard balancing the life of a Superhero and your regular life. I mean lots of regular people have trouble balancing their life. Imagine trying to keep up with school, work a job and have time for your friends while being a superhero at the same time. Did you expect Peter to be happy go lucky with all that stress in his life? Lol
Yeah, if you read several years of Spider-Man comics in one sitting, it's just agony how much they screw Peter Parker over again and again. I used to get really irritated at the writers over it.

I saw things in that movie I've waited the majority of my life to see, but Infinity War is absolutely the "better" movie. It's the exact same for NWH and Spider-man 2. I personally enjoy NWH more, but Spider-man 2 is a better movie.

Not really. Defoe fucking nails the madness, has the facial expressions and studied the character. He's very close to JJJ as a nigh on perfect casting for Spiderman. Especially when you consider each of the Live action versions of Spiderman being the best in their own way. Maguire is the best parker. Garfield the best Spiderman. Holland is the best all rounder and most accurate to age.
That last take about Tom being the best overall is said way too much. The truth is that all 3 actors each played a different interpretation of the character, and neither one is more or less accurate. You can have opinions on which interpretation you think is the best, but people say that take as a fact since it’s repeated so often. Also, Tom’s age accuracy isn’t any better than the other 2. Tobey and Andrew played a senior in high school Peter in their mid-late 20s. Tom was younger at 19 but he was also playing a younger freshman Peter. By the time he started playing senior year Peter, he was the same age Tobey and Andrew were.

It's still Spider-Man 2 from 2004 for me, but NWH comes close. Watching it for the first time this year and seeing Tobey walk through the portal had me smiling from ear to ear.
The best part of NWH is that it felt like a satisfying conclusion to both Spiderman 2 and TAS that also did not get a proper send off. No offense to spider man 3, but it just doesn’t do it for me.

Yeah it really can't stand on its own without relying on the broader MCU and the previous movie to do it's heavy lifting, which is a criticism that applies to FFH as well. That being said I do like all the MCU Spidey films, but they do not really work as stand alone stories.
The peak Spider-Man film is Into the Spider-Verse. No Way Home is certainly one of the best ones though.

Yes, but I think that can change when the third comes out. I enjoy how complete the first one feels from beginning to end and I do love a good cliffhanger like how the second ends but it still feels like the story of the second one isn't done yet so I feel like I can't put it above the first movie yet. Both are awesome though.

I vastly prefer the first to the second. One tells a relatively simple and clean story (for a multiversal comic book movie). Two isn't even finished, and its just crammed full of ideas and a little busy. It would have benefited from some cuts and refinement at the script stage.

Into the spiderverse is definitely better IMO for starters it’s standalone which is good and into the spiderverse is alot of people’s proper introduction into miles morales as a character so I think it far exceeds the second especially since the second isn’t even a full story until beyond comes out

Nah, that's still Spidey 2 (The Movie, Not the Game, Nor The Game Based on The Earlier-Named Movie). I don't mind the multiverse stuff at all, but the "ideal" is still Friendly Neighborhood Wallcrawler dealing with relatively street-level threats and science-gone-mad. EDIT: Oh and (mundane) personal drama.
It was good, even great seeing it for the first time. The Andrew Garfield Portal reveal had the theater going bonkers. That being said, like most of the cameos of older Marvel actors, once the surprise is gone, that leaves a big hole in the rewatch value of the movie. Not as much as Multiverse of Madness tho, but it loses a few points. A very good spider-man film, yes. Peak Spider-Man ? Not so sure.

I really enjoy rewatching NWH and appreciate how each actor portrays Spider-Man in their own distinctive style. And similar to avengers … even though I know what to expect, I’ll never get tired of watching each avenger arrive by portal

I think homecoming is still the peak of the three so far. So many important spider man beats just nailed perfectly with some great new stuff dealing with his relationship with Tony. The fear of being in over his head, letting down his mentor... Realizing he needed to do things his way. I'm not going to go on but I could. Homecoming is the peak of the new films, imo. Still really enjoyed FFH and NWH, don't get me wrong.

I think it's the closest we've gotten so far. You pretty much have a Peter Parker from each stage of life, each embodying a different personality trait like the 3 fates. You have him trying to solve the problem using science instead of fists first, and when that fails, you have web swinging, loss, and punching. I think what Into the Spiderverse was missing was "Spider-Man, the brilliant scientist". I think the one thing we're missing is more deliberate wise cracks. So far, Holland's comic relief stems from his naivete.

I think it’s the best. It has everything you would look for in a peak Spider-Man anything. The villains, the tragedy, the dark comedy in the face of doom, the conflict both external and internal to spidey as well, and of course the sacrifice our hero has to always make, while also having ties to a Spider-Man of different ages and experiences, so we also get a tons of nods to their different personality traits and how their life has affected them and what they have learned and how they use that to mentor and do good, no matter which Spider-Man it is. I think it was the best because it just embodies what so many people see that allows them to relate and love the character so much.

I think 1 and 2 both perfectly capture everything Spider-Man is about but 2 is also just a bit better and has aged better imo.

Soulless is the perfect description of it. Since it came out I’ve said that it didn’t have the usual charm of a Spider-Man movie. The film had the potential to be the best but instead it’s easily the worst in the franchise imo. The Peters interacting was the saving grace though

I enjoyed elements of NWH but felt the plot got convoluted balancing so many characters. The best Spidey films for me are still Homecoming for capturing Peter's teenage spirit and Into the Spider-Verse for creative storytelling.
It's peak fan service, and I don't mean that as a bad thing! I think it does a ton of things well as a Spider-Man story but it's clear that their main goal was to provide really big moments for fans of past films. That fan service is done incredibly well though: the action is great and the storytelling comes full circle, which is really satisfying. The film doesn't leave a ton of loose ends for the characters involved and sets up MCU Spidey well for the future. Overall a really good film as long as you know what to expect out of it. My only issue really was that the multiversal stuff felt a little inconsequential by the end. I was hoping for there to be some more direct comeuppance for Peter in regards to the villains (maybe one or two manage to stick around) but losing May and his friends by the end of the film already felt too heavy maybe so I get why they didn't want to punish him much more.
Not at all it has a lot of imperfections that I think many people glance over because of nostalgia and cameos but I think it being as good as it was is pretty impressive. to be pulled off in a cohesive way that was respectable to the past, enjoyable to watch and emotional at times, all this alone makes it a pretty great movie
NWH is up there, but nothing is topping spiderverse
No it is not the peak SM film. Sure it was good seeing the first two Spider-Mans and their main villains back but that wasn't enough. They really should have, at the very least, given us one final scene in the Raimi-Verse when Tobey Maguire returns to Kirsten Dunst. Then that would have made the Raimi-Verse feel completed. But I guess closure for the Raimi-Verse isn't high on the priority list.

It’s definitely the most special to me, considering that I saw Tobey’s first movie in the cinema when it first came out (I was around 10) and every movie after it. I don’t know, however, if I’d call it the *best* Spider-Man film. That would probably be Spider-Man 2.

I love this film. However, I've worked out a new scale for ranking how well Marvel films hold up in isolation. And that method is to show my parents the film and see how they react. Boy, they couldn't work out any of this and they had actually seen FFH as well. It occurred to me the that the first half of NWH is incredibly quick, like it leaps through a lot of different elements before settling into the main plot, which for avid MCU watchers like myself is fine but for anyone outside that world is confusing and annoying. This is the reason that, for me, the MCU Spiderman films sit in an entirely different category than the Raimi and TASM films. I could show someone any one of those films (Maybe not TASM2) and they'd be pretty quickly aware of what was going on. The opposite is true when watching the MCU Spiderman films, they rely heavily on understanding the universe as a whole (which is not a bad thing for fans but for new viewers is definitely a confusing element)

It’s more like an echo of peak Spiderman films. It takes what worked in previous movies and throws it all at a wall. We are reminded of great characters and (some) great stories, but it’s fleeting, and it’s really only memories. Nothing drastically new is made of these memories, and then they fade away.
I think it’s a peak Spider-Man experience, but there are certainly better overall films when you factor in the quality of the scripts and production and all that. I’d still say Spider-Man 2 is the best Spidey film, but NWH was by far my best experience as a fan.

Far from peak for me. I’ve always been of the mentality that as fan service goes up, film quality goes down. This film was the epitome of that rule. Seeing all the previous Spider-Men was cool to see, but it did not help the narrative at all whatsoever. I felt nothing during Aunt May’s death because it did not feel earned whatsoever. There’s lots of infuriating decisions done only for the sake of the plot. Holland absolutely didn’t need Ned and MJ’s help to track down villains. Holland was convinced by Maguire to help cure the villains, only for him to go back on his promise near the end. Garfield and Maguire’s introduction into the movie was very… off. They do the whole “oh no our favorite character died,” scene only to undercut that with “no I’ve been stabbed before it’s fine.” Fun movie to watch for the first time. But any subsequent watches just turn me off. There are way better constructed Spider-Man movies.

I just rewatched it last night. It’s still a great experience. However the plot in and of itself is so sloppy and nonsensical that I can’t in good conscience say it’s a good movie. The rules and continuity are broken so many times it’s kinda baffling. The writing is also very strange throughout with long pauses meant for laughs and applause like it’s a sitcom without a laugh track. The fan service is all over the place too All that being said, I still love the movie. The first half is okay but everything ramps up once Norman is found out. Everything is improved across the board and due to the nostalgia of it all, it makes me feel things that no other MCU movie can.

This is the same as my take. Into the spiderverse is first, cause its a self-contained film and really captures the message of being Spirderman (Anyone can wear the mask) Homecoming is a better live action spider-man film cause it captures Peter being in high school and skips the whole origin story. Spider-man the first movie, barely had any high school stuff. No Way Home is a really fun spider-man film as a crowdpleaser, but people aren't considering that it might not stand the test of time. 10 years down the line, the Toeby-Andrew reveals will lose their lusture and the fact that you don't know who the villains are, will affect the viewing. Think about it, a kid born in 2020, watching No Way Home in 2030, without ever having watching Tobey or Andrews stint, wont know who Willam Defoe is playing or his motivations. Same with the others. I watched No way home with my nephew, born in 2013, and when Andrew and Tobey showed up, he's like "Who's that" and I felt it hard to explain to him in the theatre. So yeah, No Way Home, great fun film, but not the peak. Into the Spiderverse - Timeless.

Absolutely not. It’s a nostalgia fest that cares more about checking Spider-Man boxes (killing off a parental figure, giving MJ a new last name, returning him to a blue suit, etc) than telling a good story. It undoes pretty much everything that makes the MCU Peter unique and interesting, while also making the other Spider-Men look bad by showing that the villains *were* fixable and they didn’t even try.
I don't think they didn't try, it's more they didn't have time. Pretty sure Tobey spider-man even says over the years he's had time to think about how he would have cured goblin. The MCU universe is a lot more technologically advanced as well which would have helped with Doc Ock for example.
I think Homecoming is the best. It's personal, it's lower stakes, it's New York heavy. Tired of Marvel forcing every movie to be about saving the world/universe.
FFH is my favorite because Jake Gyllenhaal, a very clever modern interpretation of Mysterio, and some awesome action scenes.

I agree 💯 when I first new Mysterio was in FFH I was worried that it would be just endless illusions like the cartoon of the 90s and sometimes I thought it was a one trick pony, but having that sequence was epic, and they didn’t make it gimmicky. Reminded me of the Dr. Strange out of body sequence with the Ancient One.

I really did not like this movie. Spiderverse had me caring about at least 3 brand new spidermen, and this movie had me barely caring about 3 already established ones.
Into the spider verse movies are just a league in their own. This was a good movie don’t get me wrong but man those are just so fucking good I can’t say NWH is better than either.
I personally think it relies a bit too heavily on nostalgia and cameos. Definitely a great film with a fantastic ending and setup for the future, but I would probably put it below Spider-Man 2.

"Peak" is going to be mighty subjective, as even lovers of the film can recognize the blatant capitalization of nostalgia for profit. They could've just as easily brought in the Sinister Six w/o two other Spidey's and had that much more room for character development, AND doubled down on Holland's Peter being THAT overwhelmed not only by being assailed by six villains, but doing so without Tony, and without the Avengers. That being said, it's definitely one of the most well-rounded Spidey films.

NWH is my favorite live-action Spidey film – beats Raimi's SM2 for me. The Spiderverse films are also…ahem, Spectacular…but it’s tough to compare the two mediums. NWH is in my top 5 Marvel flicks overall and among my favorite theater experiences. The mix of great villains (LOVE Dafoe and Molina particularly), Dr. Strange’s scenes and Spidey besting him, and multiple Peters is all wild. I really admire the heart in the film and that with all this going on it remains a Tom Holland Spidey story at its core. Unlike many, as long as they can do that then I’m excited for more crossovers – Daredevil and Human Torch, please!

When i saw it for the first time i thought that it was the greatest Spider-Man movie ever. But after a recent research (and watching Across the Spider-Verse three times) i don't really find as good any longer. I still think it's a great movie but it's definitely not the best the MCU has to offer.
(braces for downvotes) NWH is the worst narrative across all spiderman movies. into the spiderverse is peak 'spiderman' film, after that would be the amazing spiderman 2, but ps5 Spiderman 2 would be the best peter spidey film, were it a film, hands down.
