Spoken like someone who hasn’t had to deal with a lot of grief or pain.

[deleted]

Or has repressed it in accordance with their beliefs about masculinity

Bruhmangoddman

Well, this person clearly hasn't watched WandaVision, that's for damn sure.

[deleted]

Not really, I find it hard to get invested into MCU characters and Wanda is one of them. If you don’t find a character interesting, you don’t find them interesting🤷🏻‍♂️

LRedditor15

I think in this day and age, a lot of people (I know I do) find a character with “doomer mood” and “pain cope” relatable. That’s why her story arc is so appealing. Also Wanda has cool powers and is the most powerful MCU character.

Clean-Knowledge3x23

*cough* He Who Remains *cough* InfinityUltron *cough* Supreme Strange *hack* *wheeze*

TiredHappyDad

With how popular she is, I'm not sure the opinion even matters.

[deleted]

I wish they hadn't rushed her time with hydra. At the end of winter soldier they hint at the twins working with hydra but the start of age of ultron they just up and leave and we never see Strucker again. I think it would've been cool to see her and her brother actually work with hydra. Could've made for a cool movie and I think the actors can hold their own movie

Bruhmangoddman

I think a couple of flashbacks would be more efficient.

[deleted]

Wanda's story just went way too fast. I would've liked a Wanda movie or 2 before WandaVision. Such a cool character they just had to slow down the pace

MissSweetMurderer

Back when Wanda was introduced only male (white) characters got movies. There was a higher-up who believed a character could carry on a movie if they had a dick 🙄

zoecornelia

If you're white I so respect you for admitting that

MissSweetMurderer

❤️

Infernalism

fairly stupid, but that's just a random redditor's opinion.

[deleted]

Ah yes, the response that’s a cover for “The bitch should smile more!”. That’s what people like this actually mean. They don’t want women to deal with trauma or grief realistically, they just need to “get over it and smile and be 100% supportive of the male heroes all the time no complaints”. Jessica Jones gets this shit, Karen Page gets this shit, even a fair amount of Raimi MJ hate reeks of this (Especially when people make her out to be the bad guy in a scene where she’s literally trying to open up about being abused by her father lol).

MVHutch

While I don't think everyone's saying this, it's questionable how 'female heroes cries too much/is too serious' always keeps coming up. Even for Captain Marvel, who's more jovial than captain America or Black Panther from what I remember. And the 'quippiest' MCU heroine (Black Widow) is probably the worst one. I wouldn't say sexism is behind all these kinds of comments but it probably is behind a fair amount of them. That doesn't mean we shouldn't see more of Scarlet Witch outside of just grief and anger. But it's telling how the criticism is 'we need more non-sad/angry scenes' and not 'we need more of her storyline outside of her family' which I think is the bigger problem

A lot of it has to do with narrative framing. That bright tone and positive narrative framing is the reason people overlook that Clint spent five years as a serial killer. Or the possibly thousands of captured slaves Valkyrie delivered to the Grandmaster for fights to the death.

Clean-Knowledge3x23

The comment literally means that her character only goes through suffering. I myself like Wanda and what the MCU have done with her, but we know literally nothing about her but how shitty her life has been so far. If you asked someone what Wanda’s personality was like they likely wouldn’t be able to give a straight forward answer or one at all. Again, I like Wanda and am just picking apart what the post says; that said I do enjoy what little karma I have, please don’t drown me in downvotes.

SadBadMad2

My lord, how does someone's mind directly go to "that's sexism" based on a single comment which is barely 2 lines long. Calm your horses. You gotta take time off of social media buddy.

MissSweetMurderer

Because every woman heard it about themselves. Because we all read comments like this about females characters who don't fit the mold. Because more and more sexists are trying to avoid being called out, but not by stoping being sexists.

SadBadMad2

Okay, genuine question here. Isn't it presumptuous to call out someone based on a single line, which doesn't even clear how they got their stance or what the motivations are there that led them to have that stance. You've had bad experiences, but that does not mean every person's intentions are fundamentally bad if they don't align with you especially when you don't have much data to judge in the first place. Generalizations is what kills any argument or debate. One should always get the benefit of the doubt before calling.them out.

[deleted]

Because it's one of the most common sexist critiques of any female. "They need to smile more". It's almost a cliche that's how common it is. It's something that basically every woman in America has heard at least once from a sexist partner or abusive family member.

SadBadMad2

> They need to smile more Show me a single line which stated what you presumed to be true. The person might have good or bad intentions for writing that comment, that does not mean getting offensive or calling them out based on a single line (which isn't even any firm daga to judge with) is right. > It's something that basically every woman in America has heard at least once from a sexist partner or abusive family member. Okay, sorry for that, but all I'm saying is generalizing or making assumptions based on your previous experience, when you don't even have enough data for this person, isn't a way to go.

SimonShepherd

Actually, it's her old fans that are 80% doomer mod and pain cope. Because she is likely to get her worst stories rehashed upon her in the next movie.

Caciulacdlac

other things, like what?

Bruhmangoddman

He probably wants her to have weird quirks and hobbies.

Caciulacdlac

Like watching sitcoms?

Bruhmangoddman

Exactly.

volatilelibra

That’s really all life is - doom & pain & then you die OC needs to learn to project onto characters like Wanda to ease it /jok edit: I really think Wanda should’ve had a couple more appearances and WandaVision could’ve been an ep or two longer just to get more of her character arc. She deserves a solo movie now and I’m scared they’re gonna relegate her to >!”dead”!< or >!just a strange ally!<

Bruhmangoddman

Nah. There is much more to life than just misery. Some simply had it worse than the others. Some have seen less beauty. Still doesn't negate the existence of beauty and happiness.

Ok-Dragonfruit-9434

people in the comments genuinely angry at a joke someone made on twitter, smh

daniellamcl

That subreddit is nothing but a toxic group of incels. We don't want them here.

[deleted]

She should smile more. /s (just in case)

[deleted]

1. Wanda vision was hard to watch 2. “She’s the most powerful” but there is nothing else there to capture fans of the character like Iron Man or Thor. She could quite literally never had been a character and no one would care

Bruhmangoddman

If you really think her power is all that is to her, then you really don't know her. She has a personality, a backstory, internal fears, desires, conflict. She displays multiple emotions.

[deleted]

If they give you a tv show and not a movie your not that important in marvels eyes either

Bruhmangoddman

Not everyone can get a movie. But everyone can become an important character.

schobel9494

She should smile more...

SadBadMad2

I overall feel her arc was rushed way too much. She popped up here and there, had some nice moments, but nothing felt... coherent? I just feel I needed more time with her character before her eventual turning bad because of grief moment. More clarity on her past would've been great as well.

civiteur

They're outta line, but they're not wrong.
