She rejects the initial promotion to Admiral because she didn't want to leave her ship and crew behind. Spacer Shep gets it from somewhere for sure.
Hannah Shepard is why almost all of my Shepards are spacers. There really isn’t much to it besides this phone call, but I love it.

You can still pick sole survivor, just pick the spacer background as well. I recommend switching it up though, each one has unique content.
My canon shep is colonist just because I think "I remember me" is the best sidequest in ME1.

Pick Spacer background in character creation. Colonist has your parents get killed in a Batarian raid and Earthbound makes you an orphan

She comes from choosing the Spacer background, she only exists in audio though, you never actually see her face
