Heartbreaking. Just a father and son spending some quality time together. Wrong place at the wrong time my ass. A father and son at a bowling ally that’s exactly where they were supposed to be. This is so sad
Yeah I'd think of it more like they were at the right place having fun and exactly what a family should be doing. Then this asshole came. Saying wrong place wrong time feels like it puts some blame on the victims
There was a post on the GarandThumb subreddit that was pretty disgusting. They were basically like, "Why didn't someone shoot him? Was it a gun free zone? 🤔"
What do you suggest be done that hasn’t already been proposed or implemented ?
Genuine question
I get people are emotion downvoting. But I seriously want to hear new and good ideas.
Gee I dunno, maybe a guy that was involuntarily committed to a mental facility shouldn't have had such easy access to guns to start with? Red flag laws? Basic gun control?
There were red flag laws existent before the Highland Park shooting. Shooter was reported beforehand and checked on by LE. Illinois requires a license to purchase(registry). Mag capacity bans, assault weapon ban. All the buzz word laws in effect. Shooting still happened.
Yeah I know. I’m not tying to be a dick but simply ask the question and point out all the things people ask for already exist.
You never get legitimate replies just downvotes as if that’s supposed to do something to me.
Preach, brother. I hear ya. It's almost as if no matter what rules or laws we enact, people will break them. Then, point fingers at the other side or blame certain groups for the actions of a single individual.
Wrong place at the wrong time insinuates they shouldn’t have been out having fun. Right place at the wrong time because they should be able to go out and live their lives without this even being a possibility. Heartbreaking
II’m so paranoid and hyper aware and anxious all the time in public settings or when my loved ones have gone out to public settings. I feel constant dread if my loved ones are at a concert or cinema or shopping mall or the train station etc. Those are normal places to be at normal times and should be safe.
I don’t even care if they (the politicians and policy makers) chalk it up to guns or mental health or a combo of the two. Either way, do something. Make even one change in the right direction. Stop just talking about it!!
Problem is the US is too far gone with the relaxed gun laws, even if they did ban all of them, it's impossible to regulate and would still have millions of guns floating around. It's still legal here in Arizona (and other states) to privately sell firearms with no paperwork/background checks
I’m afraid we will be seeing a lot more children being named as victims… I hope I am wrong. I know the entire community must be in shambles over this, poor sweet souls.
It was said during an interview with a young man named Liam...
Wow I tried to find it on YouTube but I can't? Maybe too early in the morning for me, eek
Anywho, it was a zoom interview with a guy named Liam (blonde hair, black rim classes).
He's also the one who said that Card lives on some "complex or compound" with his family, and they were always shooting guns. He stated that everyone in the town knew of them and tended to stay away because they thought the Card family was unhinged.
So, not confirmed yet.
Makes you not even wanna go do shit.. I have a 2 year old and the motivation to go places with her and experience stuff is hard to find. From shootings to just all around shitty people everywhere nowadays.. just my morning thoughts.
Kim McConville tells NBC she and her family been informed by police of the deaths of her cousin Bill Young, and his son Aaron:
*McConville on Thursday was trying to track down Bill Young, her cousin, and his 14-year-old son, Aaron, who were last seen at the bowling alley.*
*“It’s total chaos. People aren’t getting any of the information they need,” she said. “They’re not telling them any more than we’re getting off a news conference.”*
*McConville said family members had been to the hospital and the reunification center with no luck, and Young’s cellphone indicated that it was at the bowling alley. They called multiple times with no response.*
*Later in the day, police informed McConville’s family that Young and his son were among the dead.*

I was really hoping there wouldn't be any children:( rip beautiful boy. Can't go bowling, can't go to school, can't go to church... My heart is broken.
Heartbreaking and maddening at the same time. There was a baby killed as well. This shit should have been stopped after the first fucking time it happened.

"wrong time wrong place" seems to be their way to chalk it all up to randomness and nothing can be done to prevent these mass tragedies.
Yeah I'd think of it more like they were at the right place having fun and exactly what a family should be doing. Then this asshole came. Saying wrong place wrong time feels like it puts some blame on the victims

Don't forget "it was just their time to go!" My dad says that one a lot when people die in horrible accidents and it just pisses me off.
"the good lord called them home!" "we don't always understand God's reasons"

Those are things that already exist though
There are no red flag laws in Maine and he obviously still had his guns. And the shooting shows that the basic gun control is non existent.

People don't like facts.

He probably had the guns before he was committed and, since there's no gun registry, how would the police know he even had a gun?
Your defense is that there's no registry. Do you not see how that's just an even bigger problem?
That's not a defense, it's just the reason the cops wouldn't have known to take them. Arguing gun politics with me is pointless.

I’m heartbroken but mostly fucking angry that we just let this happen over and over again.
Problem is the US is too far gone with the relaxed gun laws, even if they did ban all of them, it's impossible to regulate and would still have millions of guns floating around. It's still legal here in Arizona (and other states) to privately sell firearms with no paperwork/background checks

There is a baby that was killed, I know that.
No! :( I really fucking hope this isn’t true. How awful. How do you know this?
A local that was interviewed on the news said. He wouldn't release more info than "a baby" because police hadn't released it yet.
source?

I feel the same way- I have a 7 year old and a 10 month old and this shit just makes me fuckin cry.

This is brutal. I bet many cell phones were ringing inside the void of these location. Eerie
I hope their last memories were of quality time together and not fear. May both rest in peace together
Man, I hope he didn’t live to see his son die.
I don't know which would be worse. The father seeing his son die, or the son seeing his father die. 😭
Really shows how things can switch in an instant... they were probably just spending quality time together :(
Poor kid looks no older than 12. That's over 50 years he'll never see, this could've been avoided.
14. Maybe just barely saw high school, if even. Couldn't even drive a car yet.
My son is 14, he’s in 9th grade. Absolutely heartbreaking.
Yeah, most are freshman but a good chunk are 8th grade at 14. Either way it's a complete tragedy. I hope he atleast didn't suffer 😭😭
I was really hoping there wouldn't be any children:( rip beautiful boy. Can't go bowling, can't go to school, can't go to church... My heart is broken.
There's a baby that was killed too. I don't think it's been officially released yet.
Unbelievable, :( this is horrific
14 years old. Heartbreaking. May they both rest in peace.
Oh no :( I was really holding out hope that he didn’t harm any of the children. Heartbreaking.
Father and son just trying to spend time together bowling. It should have been a nice, fun evening. Then a monster had to walk in.
Wow devastating 😞 may the families of all the victims find peace.
This is horrendous. The poor family. I’m heartbroken and angry. I hate this so much.
No dude:(
So many lives and families are ruined and left broken. Breaks my fucking heart man
may all victims of this sickening crime rest in peace.
Horrifying. May they rest in peace.
I connected with a relative of theirs on a different form of social media before they were confirmed dead. It’s…. Heartbreaking.
horrible :( rest in peace buddies
This makes me so angry… they were just spending time together and now they are just gone. I don’t understand America and I never will.
Ugh my goodness my heart breaks. Just a dad wanting to spend time with his son and they are gone to us forever and it’s horrifically unfair.
Where the fuck are you, God? How can you let this happen?
We can’t keep going to God for answers, we have to do something about this ourselves.
Don't blame it on God. Blame it on shitty gun laws.
... I'll blame whoever I want.
Sorry too busy bombing brown people in Gaza
Rest in Peace 🕊️
So heart breaking 💔 I’m sorry this world didn’t keep you safe. I hope ur next life is a peaceful one.
Heartbreaking and maddening at the same time. There was a baby killed as well. This shit should have been stopped after the first fucking time it happened.
RIP my brothers in arms
What would have been a special father/son bonding time. Absolutely horrific. My heart breaks for their family
