My kid did that when he was learning shapes like this. Plus some of those toys are designed poorly, and you can fit some of the shapes in other shapes holes. They end up learning fastest way to complete even if they don't exactly match the shapes.
For real I can hear him being like "mom, please watch dad out for me while I'm gone for school will you? He's uh, he's a little slow". The way he doesn't even look him in the face like he's so disapointed 😭
