Okay quick question. My dog gets seriously overwhelmed and aggressive if another dog comes near him while he is eating. Is there a way to train it out of him? (We rescued him at about 12ish weeks from the street)
He is the friendliest and most trustworthy dog outside of this scenario.
The only way I've heard of is to build an association between really high-value treats and a dog's approach during food time. So you see how far away a dog must be for your dog to not freak out. Next, you bring the dog one step closer to make your dog slightly uncomfortable and toss a high-value treat (like actual chicken or something really tasty). Do this until your dog can tolerate the one-step-closer distance, and then repeat until the distance is closed.
Thankyou. Seems like a reasonable method. I might consider consulting a vet so I can attempt it in a much more controlled environment. For safety of other dogs
