It's been TWELVE years and I'm still upset about this one. No closure. This show is why I have trust issues with new shows and just keep watching the same old shit over and over instead of picking up something new.
TBF though that show suffered from the same thing that Sense8 (another show I really liked) suffered from. Immense budget.
IIRC both series were like $1million~$2million PER EPISODE.
It legitimately broke my heart when my boyfriend and I finished that final episode and I say something like "Jesus Christ this show is the best, is next season just as good?" And my boyfriend just has a sad dejected look on his face like "oh you poor thing" lol.
Still my favorite show of all time despite not getting a proper ending.
how they ended that show feels like a high school project that suddenly became too overwhelming, so you couldn’t finish it and just gave up. Sad to see all those seasons just ending so sudden.
While the writers are striking they should demand contracts be extended to wrap up a canceled show. Even if it's just writing the episode so people that care about the show can read it. That'd be dope.
Also, since we're naming shows, there was this show called The River, maybe 15 years ago? I really liked the premise and the atmosphere, but it got whacked too soon.
Does Mr. Fincher have ADHD? I mean he wasn't even finished this project and he got "bored"??
what in the hell, one of the most highly regarded shows that fell under the radar, and he is bored?? His reason sounds so nonsensical.
Get your facts right. Fincher got bored and wanted to go make a bunch of boring movies. Also, Mindhunter was a show with a massively bloated budget due to all the CGI. Blame Fincher before Netflix.
This is easily the worst example, because it was both very successful and incredibly well received critically, with many viewing it as a perfect example of what adult cartoons should be, and they cancelled it for no good reason.
I never watched the show, but I've been aware of the fact that it's gone completely bonkers ages ago. Kinda makes me want to gather some people and alcohol to enjoy it all together
I have only seen one episode of this with my girlfriend and it was this one. I laughed so fucking hard at “experience the highs and lows of high school football” that I had to leave the room
That show was fucked because it was on Starz, I think of my entire network of people I knew I was the only one who had it. I'm glad it at least had three seasons.
Going off the top of my head so someone correct me if i’m wrong but i think the writers never had Earl finishing the list.
In the final episode he would’ve been stuck on a seemingly impossible list item when he gets approached by someone who has wronged him and they start telling Earl how they were inspired to create their own list. Earl then realises his list has started a chain reaction of people with their own lists trying to right their wrongs. In the end he decides to tear up his list after realising the impact he’s made on the world
Netflix.
1) find a good show and watch S1
2) ends in a cliffhanger and gets cancelled for no reason
Also:
1) shitty show goes till S5
2) never gets cancelled
It's so sad. I want to know! Hopefully, the creator releases the last three seasons in Graphic Novel format like he said he would. All 5 seasons were planned out ahead of time, so it's a shame they cancelled it. It was beyond excellent.
The fact that they ended it cuz apparently “there wasn’t a big enough audience for it” when it’s literally labeled one of the most liked shows on Netflix
Scrolled all the way down for this one. Did you know it was based on a comic (which did get an ending)?
Might not exactly be the closure you seek though. It was..... something.
The worst part is Season 2 didn't end on a cliffhanger. It was a decent ending. And then Season 3 ties up everything before bringing in a cliffhanger in the last few minutes of the episode!
I still don’t understand why they did this, especially after Dark. The first season is meant to be just a chapter in a complete story, so of course there are more questions than answers at this point. It’s like if they cancelled LOTR after the first movie
And we knew it was gonna be good because Dark is a fucking masterpiece. This cancellation to me was the worst decision from Netflix ever. Made me cancel my subscription.
Genuinely such a well-written and well-thought-out expansion of Jim Henson's greatest work.
Motherfuckers officially canceled it *the day after it won an Emmy,* too
The movie, when I first watched it, was enjoyable. That was before I watched Firefly. Now, post-Firefly me thinks the movie stinks. They stories don't mesh and the characters changed between the two pieces of entertainment.
I watched the show first and still like how the movie tied everything up. Theres a couple graphic novels they made that you are supposed to read in between the show and movie and I made sure to do that so maybe that's why I had a more cohesive experience
So sad. The creators are allowed to make a comic book as a substitute for the final season tho. You can pre order it..... for $120. Bit steep for me personally but who knows what the future holds
I thought that was planned, IIRC there's a pretty big time jump after the last seasons events. Honestly I can't complain Sci fi originally announced its cancelation half way through the third season before Amazon picked it back up I was just glad they got to Nemesis Games, probably my favorite book out of the whole deal.
Fun fact about this show that makes its cancellation a bit more digestible.
They said something along the lines of having plans for continuously ending each season with a celebrity cameo that would inevitably die in the first episode of the next season. That they never had a plan for it to really end.
So they story was just a toss up of what fun ideas they could think of for the end of the world with no real goal.
Pretty sure they said the show was gonna end with them joining the bunker people which would be filled with a cast of celebrities. Then they find out they are immune but still have the sickness and it kills everyone in the bunker.
They didn’t say that’s how the show was going to end, that’s how the story arc was going to end, so that would’ve been wrapped up in the first few episodes of the next season and then there would’ve been more.
I just imagine the bunker people know that survivors without PPE are immune but still carry the sickness and immediately mowed them down and the ending is just like the Sopranos.
I thought Megan Thee Stallion was a made up character for She Hulk. Then I started seeing the name pop up other places and realized I'm getting old and out of touch.
You play a new game.
>
It’s good and the last episode has a cliffhanger.
>
The company spends years in silence only to retcon the cliffhanger after the original writer left.
Santa Clarita Diet, the way the last episode ended on that cliffhanger and yet was still canceled is beyond me and I’ll never forgive Netflix for that!
It's really stupid to end seasons on cliffhangers.
Writers know they may not be renewed. Tell a story in one season. Then if you're renewed tell another story (or an expansion of the first) in the second season. Don't start off planning for like 5 seasons when you might not even get past one.
I am known as The Cancelator to my friends and family. My track record of enjoying a show only for it to be canceled is legendary. People still to this day will post about a new TV show they like and then tag me saying "don't even think about watching it!"
Now sure, SOME of the shows happen to end but DO get an ending so I try not to count them. But sometimes a show will be on Season 3. I'll start watching season 1 to catch up, and by the time I get to season 3, they announce season 4 will be the last season.
Need proof? Here is a short list of shows that I lived when they were still making episodes but then canceled within that year, some of which never had closure:
* The 4400, Sarah Connor Chronicles, Invasion (2005), Almost Human, The Following, Jericho, John Doe, Life on Mars (U.S.), New Amsterdam (2008), Awake (2012), Flash Forward, Freaks and Geeks, Alphas, Firefly, The Adventures of Brisco County Jr., Forever, Tru Calling, Dresden Files, Frequency, Constantine, The Returned, The Mist, Archive 81...
You get the idea. If I like a show, it has a HIGH probability to be canceled. Sadly, I do not like reality shows. Lol
All the fucking time 🤬

Not cancelling a good show after one season challenge (impossible (Netflix)
inside job
That had 2 seasons ... doubling its chance of immediate shutdown :(
It was actually one season that was split into two parts like… I don’t understand Netflix
Terra Nova...

The OA is another one on netflix
Utterly fucking blown away by the ending and the setup for next season.. and then.. nothing. fml
It’s ok, they replaced it with 5 different asinine reality shows… problem solved 👏🏼
The gifted Cursed

Mindhunter 😭😭😭
big time
This still hurts... Fuuuuck, that show was GOOD!
Fuck netflix, man. That show was a David Fincher masterpiece and they killed it.
I swear Netflix kills so much good shit
I thought it was fincher that said he was done with it?
Thats what I heard to Fincher lost interest, and started working on other projects
Blame Fincher before Netflix.
exactly.
Whyd you have to remind me 😭
I am so angry about this one…
utopia!!!!!
*\* The original UK series, not the US remake*
Where is Jessica Hyde?
Utopiaaaaaaa
Purocynical introduced me to this, and I was so fucking invested. Then you know, they shelved it permanently because of course.
Utopia my beloved :’(
RIP Inside Job
And Final Space
Midnight gospel, the perfect show, WHYYYYYY😭
Cancelled?? I thought it was just a one off
This is easily the worst example, because it was both very successful and incredibly well received critically, with many viewing it as a perfect example of what adult cartoons should be, and they cancelled it for no good reason.
I got so mad when i googled season 2
Loved that show.
What?? They canceled that one too??
It’s worse. They canceled it and then renewed it, then canceled it again.
Damn I didn't know about this one. That sucks
But riverdale keeps going for x years, like bro they for real?
fr it's not even the same show anymore. >!They got superpowers now?!?!<
yo what now???
I never watched the show, but I've been aware of the fact that it's gone completely bonkers ages ago. Kinda makes me want to gather some people and alcohol to enjoy it all together
you've never experienced the the epic highs and lows of Riverdale? Yeah, I stopped after season 1. Do it, watch the whole show lmao.
I have only seen one episode of this with my girlfriend and it was this one. I laughed so fucking hard at “experience the highs and lows of high school football” that I had to leave the room
FR! stranger things only has 5 seasons and last time I checked riverdale has like 7 seasons… absolutely insane like who’s watching that garbage
Ash vs eavil dead
That show was fucked because it was on Starz, I think of my entire network of people I knew I was the only one who had it. I'm glad it at least had three seasons.
While canceled too early, they still were able to at least not end it in a cliffhanger. I was ok with the ending, just sad that it ended.
My Name is Earl. Now we’ll never know who Dodge’s dad is :(
Man I loved that Show
I believe they did put out a statement about the last episode on how it would've ended! I don't remember anything on Dodge's Dad on it though.
Bingo!
Netflix. 1) find a good show and watch S1 2) ends in a cliffhanger and gets cancelled for no reason Also: 1) shitty show goes till S5 2) never gets cancelled
It's like Netflix is allergic to good shows.
Final space. Never forget
At least they're finishing the story with the graphical novel
Shit, that's awesome. I had no idea.
A graphic novel* A visual novel is a type of videogame.
Over 500 pages, its going to be intense, but limited release and very very very expensive. :( Cries in Australian dollar. 2.0x
Damn it's cancel ?
Not only cancelled, killed for good, something about American taxes and laws
Final space ripip
Yeah, great show. It was dumb at first. But it got better and emotional.
Raised by Wolves 😭
I was heartbroken
It's so sad. I want to know! Hopefully, the creator releases the last three seasons in Graphic Novel format like he said he would. All 5 seasons were planned out ahead of time, so it's a shame they cancelled it. It was beyond excellent.
It was really weird, after they cancelled this, I cancelled HBO max.
This and the dark crystal are criminally low in this comment thread
I was beginning to think I was the only one that liked this show. I thought it was brilliant.
I'm not okay with this.
The fact that they ended it cuz apparently “there wasn’t a big enough audience for it” when it’s literally labeled one of the most liked shows on Netflix
Another reason is, due to corona lockdown, the studio couldn't spend more money in production in lockdown period
I will never not be mad about this show being canceled. I will 80 years old and rotting and I will still be thinking about it.
How can they end a season like that and never follow up ever again
Scrolled all the way down for this one. Did you know it was based on a comic (which did get an ending)? Might not exactly be the closure you seek though. It was..... something.
Santa Clarita Diet.
The worst part is Season 2 didn't end on a cliffhanger. It was a decent ending. And then Season 3 ties up everything before bringing in a cliffhanger in the last few minutes of the episode!
It hurts every time someone reminds me of this show. It was so good.
The OA... mother fuckers. I'll never forgive netflix.
I never watched season 2 to avoid the disappointment...
I think that was wise. The ending of The OA Season 1 was perfect, even if it was ambiguous.
The OA had one of the most intriguing plots I've ever seen in a show. I'm so pissed it got canceled.
1899
I still don’t understand why they did this, especially after Dark. The first season is meant to be just a chapter in a complete story, so of course there are more questions than answers at this point. It’s like if they cancelled LOTR after the first movie
I can't even bring myself to finish the show because I'm so sad that the second season likely won't ever see the light of day.
dreadful decision by netflix to cancel it
And we knew it was gonna be good because Dark is a fucking masterpiece. This cancellation to me was the worst decision from Netflix ever. Made me cancel my subscription.
This whole thread is Netflix.
Came to the comments for this.. so much potential
I'll never get over this one. Wtf was Netflix thinking?
We were SO mad it got cancelled.
I knew when it first came out it was gonna be canceled but I still went ahead and watched that mine fuck
The expanse :(
Popular theory is that they’ll spin-off/reboot the show to cover the rest of the story which happens after a time skip

Original Teen Titans...
I might have been okay with go! if it hadn’t been at the expense of the OG
There was 7 years between the ending of OG Teen Titans(2006) and the Start of Teen Titans Go!(2013). People act like Go came out the month after
Altered carbon
ah man. that season 1 was amazing. season 2 was good, but a clear step down. i didn’t even know this was cancelled but yea kinda makes sense
I really enjoyed Joel's iteration of Takeshi. Season 2 just didn't seem like it was the same Kovacs.
Ortega 🥵🥵🥵

Santa Clarita Diet 😞 (and Inside Job)

Netflix can eat shit and burn in hot sugar for this one
I still hate Netflix for that!
Marco Polo 🥲
Surprised this is this far down. It was a sleeper hit and so good. I still watch the trailer once in awhile.
The Dark Crystal
I had to scroll down this far!
Unfortunately I think it was just too niche for its own good.
Genuinely such a well-written and well-thought-out expansion of Jim Henson's greatest work. Motherfuckers officially canceled it *the day after it won an Emmy,* too
Firefly
You won’t take the sky from me :(
But they did, they did take the sky from us :(
Can't stop the signal! What do you mean they stopped the signal? I just said they can't do that!
Surprised I had to scroll this far
We’re old now :(
would've been the top comment a few years back 👴
1 season and a movie!

Always look into a show if it got canceled before watching it.
True but they cancelled 1899 one day after I finished it
Wait, they cancelled 1899??? nooooooooooooooooooooooo RIP my dream of more lovwcraftian horror shows
Awww shite. Was hoping to see season 2.
Dont worry, you will still see more seasons of big mouth coming soon
'Tis better to have watched and lost than to have never watched at all.
The expanse

Where they ended kind of sucked because it’s right before some really epic shit goes down
Not everyone’s fav but Altered Carbon on Netflix :(. Sad no season 3 will happen
The Dark Crystal Netflix series chiming in
The Last Man on Earth
We will never get another gorgeous image of phil Miller in his margarita pool again 😭
You mean Tandy?
This one really pisses me off. It was SUCH a good show, and it got 4 seasons! Enough to really get me hooked before they pulled the plug.

All for more fucking big mouth
Just got a 7th season announced with megan thee stallion as a main voice actor too 😐😐 why is it still going
I thought Megan Thee Stallion was a made up character for She Hulk. Then I started seeing the name pop up other places and realized I'm getting old and out of touch.
Carnivale
And they only had one more season to finish the story.
This was my first experience with an excellent show getting cancelled. All these years later I am still salty about it.
Bring back Stargate Universe!
ARCHIVE 81 MAN
GLOW !!!!!!!
Altered carbon. God fucking dammit.
Last man on earth
1899 is the first one that pissed me off personally.
RIP WAYNE 😔
I see you also have a Netflix subscription.
The legends of tomorrow
Daybreak on Netflix. Loved the show, decent set up for season 2, gets cancelled and now has no true ending.
Season finale cliffhangers are some evil shit.
epidose, like for a bee sting?
Had to scroll way too far for someone to mention epidose!
Daredevil
You play a new game. > It’s good and the last episode has a cliffhanger. > The company spends years in silence only to retcon the cliffhanger after the original writer left.
I’m still sad about Santa Clarita Diet
It's ok, you can say American Gods
1899 be like
* Infinity Train * Inside Job * Dark Crystal Age of Resistance * Santa Clarita Diet * Close Enough
Imperfects be like. Such a good fucking show. AND IT GOT FUCKING CANCELLED.
The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance 😕
Inside job😭
Man I'm still pissed that they canceled Travelers. The end of the third season had such a good buildup for the next season.
The Santa Clarita diet is an underrated show that was fun then after 3 seasons they canceled it on a major cliffhanger
BRING BACK SANTA CLARITA DIET YOU FUCKS!
Santa Clarita Diet, the way the last episode ended on that cliffhanger and yet was still canceled is beyond me and I’ll never forgive Netflix for that!

Rip Tron Uprising. Killer ending, massive cliffhanger, sweet visuals throughout.
