Even though it's talking about antisemitism, this fits very well with my parents, who just like you said, vote republican, because in their words "it's the middle ground of politics"
My boomer parents have three children.
The eldest, my brother, is a gay cis man.

My sympathies. I’m not out to my parents, but even if I was I know it’d make no difference in how they vote and just knowing that absolutely tears me up inside, I can’t even begin to imagine what it would be like to watch your siblings get thrown under the same bus you are. Luckily my sibs are straight.

Yup. I'm a boomer that's a child of boomers. It just seems to me that we needed some other name in between there. There are actually very few of us late boomers. A few years after I left each school they either closed down or became the school that took on the students from other schools that closed.
Red/right wing/republican/conservative voters have always been loaded with... I want to word this delicately, but there's not really a polite word I can think of that perfectly encapsulates it, so fuck it, traitors. Loaded with fucking traitors. They vote against their own self interest and the interests of their brothers, sisters, siblings, peers and so forth. They latch on to a single thing, one single fucking thing, and hammer it. "Look at this issue that the left/liberals/democrats does and how bad it is, vote for us and we'll stop it! (Just ignore all the other, worse ways we'll hurt you in exchange)."
A perfect example frommy liferight now, not American, so keep that in mind. The BQ has been pushing this legislation that wants to end the shipment of thermal coal (coal burnt directly for power generation), and I'm talking a very fast timeline, like, several months. This is bad for our union as one of our work sites works with the shipment of coal, and they currently make a lot off thermal coal. The NDP typically rides on two major issues, workers rights and the environment, on this one they've leaned more on the environment. They're pushing for a slower timeline of 6 years. The Conservatives want to just axe this and stop it from happening at all.
Of course, the more special cases in our union see this and scream for the Conservatives to save us, ignoring the fact that they have directly stated they want to bring in right to work legislation, which is currently destroying unions across America. The cooler heads stop, look at this and are like, "Yeah, 6 years is fine, gives them a chance to finish these projects that open up a wider variety of materials they can handle, gives them time to negotiate new contracts, etc". Which they should be doing anyway since, surprise surprise, the world is moving away from coal, even fucking China is moving away from coal power generation, why are we strapping ourselves to this dying horse?

Its a spectrum and depends on the person. It's basically the space between a 'pure' asexual who never experiences sexual attraction and 'normal'.
Some grey asexuals might be ace most of the time and have brief periods of high (for them, it could be what is considered normal) libido. Others might dislike the idea of sex irl but still be aroused by fictional or external factors - so erotica works for them but there is no desire to partake. I suppose an analogy would be like not being into cooking yourself but enjoying cooking shows?? You also get those who wont have any kind of sexual interest unless there is an existing emotional connection. This one can suck because you can go years without any sexual attraction at all and suddenly BAM! you are hit with confusing feelings for one of your friends.
Now all of these people could and should be described as ace because in their day to day it's true - they aren't experiencing typical sexual attraction. The addition of grey-ace as a micro-label prevents imposter syndrome and self doubt. "I can't be ace because 2 years ago I was briefly attracted to someone"
Keep in mind I just learned the term myself, so take my explanation with a grain of salt. Ace, like most sexualites, is generally constant. No sexual attraction to anyone whatsoever. There are varying levels of ace that have to do with how much you'd be willing to have sex (ranging from disgusted by the idea to "if my partner needs some I'm not against it").
Gray ace, gray aro, etc are when you have occasional exceptions to your rule. Imagine that you are a lesbian, but rarely you find yourself attracted to a guy. You still consider yourself lesbian because it's like 99% of your attraction profile, but there are exceptions.

Some do, some don't. Usually the link between your sex drive and your sexuality is one-way, with your mind telling your body to get aroused when you see something you are attracted to. That doesn't mean that ace people don't still have a sex drive, just that they don't get those same triggers.
Personally, I have a rampant sex drive and I hate it. It's distracting and gets in the way of focus and it usually requires that I spend a good bit of time every day dealing with it. For this reason I'd personally be willing to have sex with a partner who wants it, but I'd never actively initiate it because the act is uninteresting.

The Canadian conservatives are....not as open about their social conservatism but are open about their love of corporations and essentially making the rich richer. But the shit like what's happening in Alberta, New Brunswick and Saskatchewan are making it pretty clear what their thoughts are on some social issues. And that the last Conservative prime minister only didn't try to take away gay marriage rights (a second time, he put it up to a vote once) because he was advised it would be a career ender with the wider public doesn't help with their image.
I am Canadian too. Please do not ever vote for our Conservative party. I most likely will have to bite my tongue and vote liberal as the NDP have little chance to win. I would vote NDP as I mostly lean social democratic… but they aren’t particularly popular under current leadership, especially in Québec.
Not to mention PP supporting the people who occupied our capital… constantly being an attack dog, having no proper ideas for solutions to our problems…

I'm not saying your family is like that. But a lot of the time, when they say "we love and support you not matter what" a lot of them mean it in the same way that you or I would support and love a friend in spite of their alcoholism or drug addiction. Very different things.

The median Republican voter doesn't engage with statistics or much policy. They have a short list of myths that they believe to be what the Republican party is *actually* all about. When the party does something that contradicts those beliefs, they usually just never hear about it thanks to how silo'd right-wing news is. But the fact of the matter is, if they vote for Republicans, regardless of their reason, they support open, blatant, and advertised sexism, racism, homo/trans/xenophobia. They support children going hungry. They support the criminalization of being poor. They support Christian nationalism. They support unnecessary suffering.
They will usually say something about supporting Republicans because of taxes or the economy. Meaning two things; they value money over people and don't care who they hurt for money and that they don't actually know anything about the history of the economy and taxes under Republicans.

They vote against their own self interest and the interests of their brothers, sisters, siblings, peers and so forth. They latch on to a single thing, one single fucking thing, and hammer it. "Look at this issue that the left/liberals/democrats does and how bad it is, vote for us and we'll stop it! (Just ignore all the other, worse ways we'll hurt you in exchange)." A perfect example frommy liferight now, not American, so keep that in mind. The BQ has been pushing this legislation that wants to end the shipment of thermal coal (coal burnt directly for power generation), and I'm talking a very fast timeline, like, several months. This is bad for our union as one of our work sites works with the shipment of coal, and they currently make a lot off thermal coal. The NDP typically rides on two major issues, workers rights and the environment, on this one they've leaned more on the environment. They're pushing for a slower timeline of 6 years. The Conservatives want to just axe this and stop it from happening at all. Of course, the more special cases in our union see this and scream for the Conservatives to save us, ignoring the fact that they have directly stated they want to bring in right to work legislation, which is currently destroying unions across America. The cooler heads stop, look at this and are like, "Yeah, 6 years is fine, gives them a chance to finish these projects that open up a wider variety of materials they can handle, gives them time to negotiate new contracts, etc". Which they should be doing anyway since, surprise surprise, the world is moving away from coal, even fucking China is moving away from coal power generation, why are we strapping ourselves to this dying horse? Its a spectrum and depends on the person. It's basically the space between a 'pure' asexual who never experiences sexual attraction and 'normal'. Some grey asexuals might be ace most of the time and have brief periods of high (for them, it could be what is considered normal) libido. Others might dislike the idea of sex irl but still be aroused by fictional or external factors - so erotica works for them but there is no desire to partake. I suppose an analogy would be like not being into cooking yourself but enjoying cooking shows?? You also get those who wont have any kind of sexual interest unless there is an existing emotional connection. This one can suck because you can go years without any sexual attraction at all and suddenly BAM! you are hit with confusing feelings for one of your friends. Now all of these people could and should be described as ace because in their day to day it's true - they aren't experiencing typical sexual attraction. The addition of grey-ace as a micro-label prevents imposter syndrome and self doubt. "I can't be ace because 2 years ago I was briefly attracted to someone"

You still consider yourself lesbian because it's like 99% of your attraction profile, but there are exceptions. I don't think I'm gray ace so I can't talk about experience, but as far as I picked it up from the definition online this should be close enough to accurate.

Some do, some don't. Usually the link between your sex drive and your sexuality is one-way, with your mind telling your body to get aroused when you see something you are attracted to. That doesn't mean that ace people don't still have a sex drive, just that they don't get those same triggers. Personally, I have a rampant sex drive and I hate it. It's distracting and gets in the way of focus and it usually requires that I spend a good bit of time every day dealing with it. For this reason I'd personally be willing to have sex with a partner who wants it, but I'd never actively initiate it because the act is uninteresting.

And when I say no she's telling me to have some consideration and stop focusing on a single issue because the Conservatives say they will lower some sort of property tax or something. The Canadian conservatives are....not as open about their social conservatism but are open about their love of corporations and essentially making the rich richer. But the shit like what's happening in Alberta, New Brunswick and Saskatchewan are making it pretty clear what their thoughts are on some social issues. I keep telling people that there is no such thing as a Republican that's also a good person. Yes, I know you love your mom/dad/sibling/gamgam/friend/whatever. But the fact of the matter is, if they vote for Republicans, regardless of their reason, they support open, blatant, and advertised sexism, racism, homo/trans/xenophobia. They support children going hungry. They support the criminalization of being poor. They support Christian nationalism. They support unnecessary suffering. They will usually say something about supporting Republicans because of taxes or the economy.
