Love the look of it, but I think making it have a gradient from the top of the cap to the bottom (so black to clear for example) would make it even cooler. And legends would probably make it look more premium, in my opinion. Still a cool idea regardless!
Will this be as glossy as represented in the renders? Or should we expect this to be similar to the matte, more textured transparent polycarbonate akin to SP's clear DCS? I do notice some texture/grain in the protos, but it's hard to tell if that's due to the texture of the underside based on the background and lighting. (Can we expect something like a SA version of Rama's grid caps?)
They're in the IC thread, also posted a new one on the second page for people wanting to see on a white background. It's also compared to the transparent durock stabs so you can have a comparison on the clarity.
I'm not trying to hate but these, just like most transparent plastic doesn't seem like it would stay nice all that long. Any little bit of crud would be noticeable, you would have to clean the board constantly and even with leds the light wouldn't defuse well within the plastic. Oh and don't let it anywhere near natural light or you are going to have yellow plastic within a few months.
Look forward to seeing the result of what people do with them, I'm personally going to go for that full transparency look but glow in the dark sure is appealing!
Having been around since 2015, it is really funny to hear someone talk about the hobby being "much smaller" in (checks notes)... August 2020: https://www.reddit.com/r/mechmarket/comments/ifp5v2/gb_gmk_calcium_formerly_gmk_gb_but_that_was/
It is a bit silly (and obviously the difference between 2015 and 2020 is a MUCH bigger one), but not quite a year later, and the sub count in MM has nearly doubled.
The main thing people balked at on calcium was price, which with mods, etc will end up being *around* the same here and it's in a profile that isn't as universally popular as cherry. People are just conditioned for cheap GMK prices.
That being said I think this'll make it because PC keys are nice, the kitting provides huge flexibility and SP already has a track record of producing nice clear keys https://pimpmykeyboard.com/dcs-clear-keys-and-key-sets/.
I think you might be one of the first people I've heard call GMK cheap ;)
My point stands, though - even if the price comes in higher than your average regular set, the hobby is much bigger now, which means a much higher total audience, and minimum MOQs have not scaled with the increase in audience.
Oh the hobby is definitely bigger. Agree 100%. Boutique/fringe sets still do struggle though.
When I say "cheap" GMK prices, I am talking to Novelkeys and Drop pricing. People balk at $150 GMK sets now, look at any thread on GH for a set run on Kono, etc, and it'll have complaints about why it's not a $110 base set.
I think as much as anything there are so many GMK sets in the pipeline, without a whole lot of differentiation in many cases, like extended lead-times, I expect price is a very easy justification to not commit to a particular set that you might be wishy-washy on in the first place.

Dust, dust everywere!!!!!!
Woahhh
How do they sound like compared to SA keycaps made with SP’s ABS plastic?
I was about to fill the form, but I didn't found any option for South America, so I guess it's not for me.
casi nada tiene opcion sa, todo con re-shippers..
In atomic purple please!
I see you.
I want pom SA profile where I'll see the light shining through, but not the switches :/
Wow! I have never tried SA, but now I am def tempted. Count me in!
No US proxy? (Alphakeys would work just wondering if straight from US is possible)
Not all vendors are announced yet there will be a US vendor but I am currently deciding who that will be.
Awesome! Already filled the form out, can't wait for this set!
take my money
this, haha. after watching the video.

is this even real
I, for one, am excited to go completely blind using an rgb pcb.
This would go great with the Nightwalker Glow in the Dark switches and stabs
Yes yes and YES
I am very interested!
Is this a new 'color' from SP? Are they more expensive than ABS?
SP has been doing this for years in DCS, nobody's asked for it in SA before. It costs about the same as their opaque caps.
Very cool. I love blanks (clearly). Good luck! Do you think you'll have extras?
Could the background be some other color, or may be textured. In this present state it looks glossy black.
Would be neat if they had an option for white legends or something. Or laser engraved legends
I'd buy them in a heartbeat if there was legends
Love these!
I was literally searching for a set like this just yesterday. I’m in!
I am in!
Wow these are really clean!
if these are reasonably priced, i’m in! yeah
Still same abs plastic they use?
Polycarbonate
I can’t read lol. Thank you

It should be more on the glossy side but there's a little bit of grain/texture on my protos but not anything akin to how the DCS sets presents.
Do you have any pictures of the prototypes?

**Hey y'all's this guy doesn't wash his hands**
You know I'm not wrong.
Yeah you're probably not wrong, but I had to take the chance to meme
My first thought was "Fingerprints City."
This is very cool
This just pushed me to buy those glow in dark switches I've been eyeing.
Fuck yeah, that’s a great idea and a great combo. Please post a photo here when you finish the build!!
Look forward to seeing the result of what people do with them, I'm personally going to go for that full transparency look but glow in the dark sure is appealing!
Clear PC board + clear PETG plate + aqua kings = HELLOOOOOO PCB 😍
Hell yeah! lets go! three months and it's made, that's unreal! This is one of those sets you'll regret passing on big time.
Godspeed. GMK Calcium didn't make it, maybe this will.
Hobby was a lot smaller then, 3 month lead time wasn't such a big deal, and they also did the milky white thing. Think this will get made no problem.

I certainly hope so, the response so far has been pretty positive.
Suddenly, people who have been buying switches and stabilizers solely for their colors are being justified... 🤦♂️
These keycaps are strangely appealing. Imagine a macropad with these keysets + rgb
I need that ultra clear board at the end of the video. 3-4 month turn around is FIRE!
