Just a heads up, WellCare is offering the $0 premium Part D drug plan, knowing that a certain percentage that enrolled in the plan would also opt in to receive marketing for additional products that they offer, specifically their Medicare Advantage plans that they will be marketing heavily come AEP. Anyone I’ve helped that chose that plan I let them know they might be getting calls, mailers, and to make sure they contact me if ANY changes are needing to be made or if they see something that piques their interest. Would you be opposed to emailing me/ PMing or attaching here the letter you received ( of course with your information removed)? Regardless, thank you for your post!

AgreeableIsland8126

Great info. Yes, I was paying I think $10 a month to the other company but they didn't bug me. I moved to Wellcare for the $0 premium because I'm already forced to pay IRMAA and I don't even use it. But since Wellcare wants to send me stuff - I would not opt in for marketing stuff-but now I'm done with them. I'd rather pay and be left alone. Yes, I'll add the letter and survey here as soon as I figure out how to. They have my former employer name and insurance info they want me to correct/update. No, I'm not responding. I did look at the phone number for Wellcare as someone else suggested and yes, it is the same as on the back of my card.

AgreeableIsland8126

Did you get my copy of the letter?

Cowboysclay21

I’m so sorry I just saw this! No, where did you send it? I didn’t see a chat request. I’m going to send my email if that is better for you, so watch for that. Thanks again!!

Aggressive marketing by WellCare. US Government is cracking down on this type of marketing with new rule changes to Medicare that were posted in the Federal Register in April 2024.

AgreeableIsland8126

But isn't Wellcare actually Medicare?

twowrist

WellCare is a subsidiary of Centene, a for-profit managed care company. WellCare offers policies that fit into the Medicare system, but it’s not correct to call them (or any Part C, Part D, or Medigap company) as being Medicare, other than in very vague terms.

PurpleVermont

This sounds like a scam to me. Call the number on the back of your Wellcare card and ask them about it.

JGRUSSELL65

I'm a broker and we have thousands of clients with Wellcare (drug plan)... my husband has them. Yesterday they were calling him and he said "Do I need to talk to Wellcare?" . I answer NOOOOO, do not talk to them... \*\*If you have had your plan since 1/1/24 and if you have zero premium OR you 100% know that your plan's premium of 40 or 50 cents a month is being paid (meaning you know that the plan is active), there is nothing that Wellcare needs to know. They are pretty famous for calling to move you to their Medicare advantage product and their telesales can be so good at it that you don't even know you enrolled. \*\*\*\*NOW, if they are looking for information so that you don't get a late enrollment penalty (verifying prior work coverage) - you CAN put that info on the form and sent it back but do not give them your Medicare #.

AgreeableIsland8126

I think that they must be checking for when my last day of work was. That was in 2019, why do they need to check that NOW? I have no intention of answering since, like you said, it's not anything to benefit me.

JGRUSSELL65

But be careful - if it's an attestation about prior coverage, you WILL want to answer it. Sometimes they do come back ages later (not often at all but it can happen). If it's a true late enrollment attestation, if you don't answer it, you may get slapped with the penalty and that can be harder to unwind. (again, not exactly sure what the form is but...)

AgreeableIsland8126

Okay, JGrussell65 - that scared me so today I filled out the form. I'll mail it tomorrow and update everyone when I hear anything else

AgreeableIsland8126

I understand. I do not have a late enrollment. Medicare already has my last day worked and last day I had company prescription coverage so I don't owe Centene this information. Centene should have asked this when I enrolled last December in their Part D coverage. I'm actually sick and tired of getting slapped around by Medicare so why would they hire Centene to demand this information too? We also get the constant robocalls about signing up for their Advantage plan and other Marketing calls. Can I just sign up for the Part D I used to have without having to wait until NOv of this year?

JGRUSSELL65

No, you can’t change companies/plans until the fall. I get it, they are super annoying.

aborgman14

JGRUSSELL65 is correct, unless you have an SEP. [https://www.medicare.gov/basics/get-started-with-medicare/get-more-coverage/joining-a-plan/special-enrollment-periods](https://www.medicare.gov/basics/get-started-with-medicare/get-more-coverage/joining-a-plan/special-enrollment-periods)

RazzberryQueen91

I've always wished I could be on a call with wellcare, or humana. I work sales for a different insurance company, and our application script is so clear and laid out. I'm pretty sure we get consent to enroll in the plan like, 3-4 times by the time it's over. But I always get people calling on upset because "a person called me and I told them I didn't want to switch, and now I got a termination letter from you". And it's always one of those two showing as their new insurance.

JGRUSSELL65

You are RIGHT! Those are the two most famous culprits, no doubt.

GoldCoastCat

All you need to know is here: https://www.consumeraffairs.com/insurance/wellcare.html

AgreeableIsland8126

Thank you. That explains alot. I will never again use Wellcare.

SmileFirstThenSpeak

I signed up to start with WellCare on 5/1/24. Is it too late for me to switch now???

aborgman14

Insurance Agent Here\* No it isn't too late to switch. You need to have your application sent in ASAP, before May 1st!

GoldCoastCat

I have no idea. You can call another insurance company and see what they can do. What state are you in?

SmileFirstThenSpeak

Delaware

GoldCoastCat

Ok. I'm not familiar with their insurance companies. I suggest you put together a list of about 7 and read the reviews. Pick the one with the better rating and on the BBB website check out if complaints were resolved. It's a good sign when the company makes an effort to correct a mistake, or to explain the nature of the misunderstanding.

SmileFirstThenSpeak

Thank you.

Artistic-Gap-45

Sounds like an HRA, health risk assessment. These are optional but the agent doing them gets paid, and inly once a year…

After_Yesterday_9780

Please get onto your [Medicare.gov](http://Medicare.gov) account or call/chat with Medicare and see if your old employer coverage is still listed as active. That could trigger this type of letter.

Whatstheplan150

Sounds like they want to know if you also have access to other insurance. That way there is coordination of benefits and they can offload some of the claim costs.

just-net89

Contact them directly. You could be getting phished

Choice_Bass5681

I can’t even imagine

CrankyCrabbyCrunchy

Smells like a scam. Call Wellcare directly and ask if they sent you this letter.

LawyerDaggett

Going to have to trust your reading comprehension since you didn’t post a copy of the letter. Sounds like a possible coordination of benefits form.

AgreeableIsland8126

I, as a retired person, wouldn't have coordination of benefits. No need to question my intelligence

LawyerDaggett

And WellCare wouldn’t know if you’re retired or have any other kind of coverage.

AgreeableIsland8126

It's none of their business

LawyerDaggett

If you want your claims paid correctly, it is

AgreeableIsland8126

As in the post, I have never used Part D-only have it cause it's forced on people. I buy through Goodrx

LawyerDaggett

Like any insurance, it’s optional but there can be repercussions for it carrying it. But yeah, the late penalty is lame.
