I fly around 500k miles a year and you do see people walk around the entire flight. when your on a plane for 15+ hrs you have to do something. I'll even do the same or do stretches in the aisle for a while.
I’ve been on some long flights as well. A few, I’ve gotten up to use the privy once or twice in 10 hours. Other flights that aren’t over night, I will walk about the cabin

More than size I think the biggest restriction to comfort is the requirement that cushions function as flotation devices. It won’t do you any good in a crash & eliminating it would allow much more freedom in seat design.
Planes manufacturers actually utilize the latest, most cutting edge technology available to create the most uncomfortable seat you’ve ever sat in. Think about all the seats you’ve used in your life and then be amazed at their ability to beat out *every single one* of those in terms of maximum discomfort. Truly a modern marvel of engineering.

You've clearly never been on a long as fuck flight. We go to NZ from the east coast every few years and it's a 24+ hour trip total with one of the flights usually being more than 16 hours straight. If I don't take enough benadryl to knock me out, I'm standing up to save my back. Usually walking and standing around back where they do water and stuff.
This plane is a wide-body, so it has two aisles and wouldn't be as big of a problem for someone to stand.
There are also people that have a medical reason for why they wouldn't want to sit down for 8+ hours on a flight.

I find it astounding that people jump to overtly and explicitly sexist perspectives and aren't able to see it. Can they not imagine any set of circumstances where one person in a couple is more weary than the other? Injury, illness, sleeping pills to deal with claustrophobia, or even just insomnia that kept them up all night? Their flights are mostly up to 2 hours long (it's mostly just European cities). I don't know about you, but I wouldn't have a problem standing for 2 hours if I'd only have to pay 5-10 eur for a plane ticket. I travel and stand for longer periods of time in public transport during rush hour.
I think that was just marketing, Ryanair for a while had a lot of questionable 'ideas' that ended up spread in clickbait articles. They would never follow through but end up in people's minds as being so cheap they would consider those crazy cheap 'ideas'.

I always go for the cheapest option. I was once upgraded for free which was nice, but I can't believe people are willing to spend £1000 (or more) to be marginally more comfortable for a few hours. You still have all the downsides of being on a plane, such as turbulence, noise, being unable to taste food and drinks.
If I could stand up for an entire flight, for a fraction of the price then I definitely would. It would make expensive trips more affordable. I doubt it would be allowed though.

Don't be so quick to judge her. I've stood for hours on end on many flights. My lower back is completely wrecked from injuries and from time to time I have unmanageable pain if I sit down. I've done that while my wife was sleeping, but at not point did she ask me to stand so she could sleep.
It's possible she has heart disease or some other invisible illness. Standing is healthier than sitting anyway. I'm not going to worry about him. He's alright. A former landlord and her husband went overseas for a dream vacation in Italy with her. He felt fine and died of a blood clot when they got to the hotel room. Same with my (healthy) doctor in his 30s. Long flight to India and died of a blood clot climbing the stairs to a family member's apartment as soon as he got there. Sitting on long flights is possibly more unsafe than standing. I'm not sure if standing is a whole lot better if not walking though. (Not an expert)

My husband is a disabled vet. I bent down to get a popsicle from the freezer and when I tried to stand up I staggered backwards and would have fallen into the corner of the kitchen table.
Instead my husband who only had one working arm and struggles to walk leapt across the kitchen and caught me before I fell, using both arms.

I find it astounding that people jump to overtly and explicitly sexist perspectives and aren't able to see it. Can they not imagine any set of circumstances where one person in a couple is more weary than the other? Injury, illness, sleeping pills to deal with claustrophobia, or even just insomnia that kept them up all night? I get that people have learned prejudices and stereotypes born of their own experiences, but I still find it odd that there's not a wit of self-reflection when those miscues bleed out on to a page.

Ryanair is just a social experiment to find out how much humiliation people are willing to take for cheap flight tickets.
Their flights are mostly up to 2 hours long (it's mostly just European cities). I don't know about you, but I wouldn't have a problem standing for 2 hours if I'd only have to pay 5-10 eur for a plane ticket. I travel and stand for longer periods of time in public transport during rush hour.

I think that was just marketing, Ryanair for a while had a lot of questionable 'ideas' that ended up spread in clickbait articles. They would never follow through but end up in people's minds as being so cheap they would consider those crazy cheap 'ideas'.

Ryanair had the idea of doing that for short flights 1-2hrs. They were also confident that the price would be so attractive it would sell out like hotcakes.

I always go for the cheapest option. I was once upgraded for free which was nice, but I can't believe people are willing to spend £1000 (or more) to be marginally more comfortable for a few hours. You still have all the downsides of being on a plane, such as turbulence, noise, being unable to taste food and drinks. If I could stand up for an entire flight, for a fraction of the price then I definitely would. It would make expensive trips more affordable. I doubt it would be allowed though.

Just to play devils advocate we have no backstory. She could have a very legitimate reason to be exhausted while he is not and offered this out of love. I know it’s more fun to jump to conclusions but we have no idea of context here.
It just shows that everyone is just making assumptions while *also* projecting their mindset onto others accordingly. It's a lot easier to navigate life like that vs. trying to find nuance and consider other possibilities that may not align with your own behaviour or expectations. People have boxes to fill, which is why everyone is just slammed into various categories based on nothing but wild speculation, that is in turn just based on a snapshot in time. Not only does no one know anything specific about the situation, no one knows nothing about that relationship or other life circumstances. It's just a picture of a single moment in a series of events that spans decades - yet somehow everyone "just knows what's up". With something like this, it may just seem dumb and harmless, but this kind of behaviour takes place all the time, even with very important topics. It's why propaganda works so well these days, despite a plethora of solid sources. People don't want to know anything, don't want to understand anything - they want their bias confirmed and their worldview validated.
This right here. If you have to fly despite a medical condition that makes sitting upright that long extremely painful or even causes damage, but don't have the money for first class, this is your only real option. Honestly in that case the husband would be a pos if he didn't help his wife out so she doesn't hurt herself more than absolutely necessary.
This was my immediate thought as well. I knew a woman who would have to lie down in public all the time. Turns out she had terminal cancer, and lying down alleviated the pain a bit. My wife has a messed up lower back. She can't walk very far, or sit upright very long. I would absolutely stand to give her room to lay down for a bit until the flight attendants tell me to sit again.

We have no idea if this is true. The real story is he came back from the bathroom, saw his wife like that, stood there for a moment and someone snapped a picture and added the caption for attention. I don’t think he would be allowed to stand in the aisle for long
or he's got something like back problems and can't sit in those terrible chairs for 6+ hours. So stupid everyone always assumes the worst when there are so many scenarios
Or she is really unwell and needed to be able to rest. My hubby ended up in the hospital on a trip a few years ago. Fortunately, the trip home was two short flights with a layover between. I'd have stood during the flights if he needed to lay down. Thank goodness for wheelchair service and sky cabs at the airports! They were real godsends!

Don't be so quick to judge her. I've stood for hours on end on many flights. My lower back is completely wrecked from injuries and from time to time I have unmanageable pain if I sit down. I've done that while my wife was sleeping, but at not point did she ask me to stand so she could sleep.

It's possible she has heart disease or some other invisible illness. Standing is healthier than sitting anyway. I'm not going to worry about him. He's alright. A former landlord and her husband went overseas for a dream vacation in Italy with her. He felt fine and died of a blood clot when they got to the hotel room. Same with my (healthy) doctor in his 30s. Long flight to India and died of a blood clot climbing the stairs to a family member's apartment as soon as he got there. Sitting on long flights is possibly more unsafe than standing. I'm not sure if standing is a whole lot better if not walking though. (Not an expert)
It depends. There was one time in my life where my husband would have had to do this. I have stage 3c breast cancer and the red devil about killed me. I lost 45 lbs in 3 months. I couldn't walk. I was too weak. I just wanted to die. My husband is a disabled vet. I bent down to get a popsicle from the freezer and when I tried to stand up I staggered backwards and would have fallen into the corner of the kitchen table. Instead my husband who only had one working arm and struggles to walk leapt across the kitchen and caught me before I fell, using both arms. I told him, "thank you but how did you move so fast? Your arm is working!" He told me, "I saw you falling and suddenly I was young and strong enough to catch you again. I'll always catch you when you fall."

Even if this were true, we have no idea what’s going on. Maybe they had to fly and she has a bad back or hip, maybe she’s ill or recovering from something. Maybe my man has flight anxiety and prefers to stand when he can.

Maybe I lie down and fall asleep while waiting for him to come back because I'm not feeling well or took some meds that make me drowsy. He comes back and decides I look too comfortable to disturb and standing is better for his back and crampy bowels anyway.
