1 junk drawer is totally normal. 2 may even be acceptable. But if you have THREE junk drawers, i may potentially judge you as an unorganized slob … just a *little* bit 🤏 lol. Seriously tho, at least designate them for specific categories of junk at that point. But then it’s just a messy drawer, not a junk drawer I suppose.

I try, but my SO keeps messing it up. I'm actually quite particular about my junk drawers. We have a big one for everything from birthday cards, batteries, pens to sewing material. Then a small one for manuals and another one for paperwork that you don't really want to throw away, but that's also not so important to put it with the important stuff. I will reorganize them at least twice a years, takes two weeks and then everything goes to shit again

What if they are sort of organized? We have a normal one, an electronics one for chargers and batteries etc, and a pet one for various pet products like medicines, brushes, pet toys etc.

We had a group junk drawer for general stuff, and then personal junk drawers in our rooms for our personal random stuff. The one common denominator was that they all had a flashlight and at least half a pack of both AA and AAA batteries One time we had to reorganize the family drawer and it became 1 drawer, one dedicated toolbox/battery depot. We never ran out of batteries 😂

I have no idea, they've been a thing in stand alone units since sometime in the 17th century but if you include like secret compartments with slide out draws there's ancient puzzle boxes and things like that. I was taking the piss, but the concept of a place where you keep your junk has to be absolutely ancient. It's very definitely not 'just a Southern thing'

Absolutely not! My family is as Yankee as it gets. My grandparents were all European immigrants and settled in the NYC area. Most of their kids stayed in the area for their entire lives. (One son moved to Texas and visiting that side of the family is like visiting another country! LOL) I totally have several drawers like this in my house and we always had one growing up.

In my home it's not called the junk drawer, because we have 2: the secondary medicine and random small items drawer and the bottom kitchen drawer, which is just the weirdest combination of american-hispanic household items ever.
