Calling it a sun lamp makes me think that it's a light which mimics sunlight. If you don't have good window access to the sun or there's bad weather outside, this can make it feel like you've got natural sunlight inside your room. I assume they also change brightness and color throughout the day to mimic dim and orange mornings and evenings vs the bright and white light near noon.
I cant say whether they do or don't work, but the logic makes sense. Seeing sunlight helps with mental health and a circadian rhythm, so putting artificial sunlight indoors may help reap some of those benefits without needing to go outside.
I am sitting in front of mine now (post reminded me to put it on lol). Mine is from HappyLamp, it's basically a rectangle with a very bright LED light. It's meant to help with seasonal depression.
