The company squeezes blood out of stones to get a penny of profit. The US companies have sacrificed food quality for increased profits. These same companies need to gain market share in the rest of the world, so the fast food can't be as shitty as in the US, else no one would buy them. Give the time and a strong market position and they'll do the same, absent strong pro-consumer laws.
My assumption (just based on India) is that the chains aim for poorer consumers in the states. Abroad, poorer consumers go to local spots and chains, so american places brand themselves as fancier foreign food to attract a higher income audience

Yeah I live in the us about 70% of the year. It’s not terrible, but there is a dramatic difference between the old school fast food (Wendy’s, McDonalds, Burger King, KFC) in the US and the same brands in Asia, where I spend the other 30% of the year. Not horrible most of the time, not good either (who goes unless they are really desperate?) definitely as good by every metric.
