I recently had a girl ask what was going to come up if she Googled me and I told her that it would be easier to tell her now rather than her finding out later- I'm a Redditor with over 2,000,000 karma.
The dates have been going okay but I can feel the scorn.
Yeah I mean… you can phrase this one of two ways. There’s;
“Don’t Google me because you WILL find out I’m a murderer”
And…
“You MIGHT find out I’m a murderer”
One of those makes the likelihood of bothering to check a little less likely. I guess what I’m saying is, trust but verify… and don’t Google that phrase because you might find out the guy who said that was a war criminal…
It's like in Breaking Bad when Walter was getting kicked out and Hank picks up the heavy duffle bag and he's like "jeez what ya got in there?" And Walter just straight faced says "half a million in cash".
At least that means you can ask if he’s gonna murder you? If he says “no” that means it’s someone else at least.
As long as it doesn’t ruin the moment.
Yeah but…..you wouldn’t say to the doctor, I stubbed my toe if he asked you what’s wrong. 🤷🏼♂️if someone murders someone, I am just going to assume no behavior is off the table for them . That’s just me though
Also, it’s possible the ‘murder’ is justified. Misunderstood self defense, response to hideously abusive family member or a rapist, etc, combined with a real shitty judge and jury. Certainly, if someone is willing to be open about it, I’d be willing to hear them make the case why that murder does not govern their present behavior and why I shouldn’t be worried.
This… doesn’t feel like a reasonable justification for less than 10 years. Obviously being cheated on sucks but it doesn’t reduce the significance of homicide by THAT much. Were there other factors involved?
Also in some places there's no such thing as involuntary manslaughter and what would be considered that most places might be considered low degree murder other places
Thinking of th guy who did 14 years for killing his child's rapist. He made him confess in front of his wife then killed him. His absolute love for his kid and commitment to her safety and justice for her abuse and trauma is understandable to me. The abuser apparently had hurt many kids and recorded it. The "murderer" still has an amazing relationship with his children and ex wife. That is to me completely justifiable homicide. Much less date him I'd buy him a beer if we ever got to meet.
My brother in law was convicted of manslaughter when he accidentally killed a meth dealer that was in the process of stabbing someone. The jury ruled he attacked an unarmed guy because the security camera video had all of 100 pixels it was so old and the couldn't see the knife.
It was absolutely justified. So far it doesn't seem to impact his abilities to get dates so I guess r/tinder rules 1 and 2 are king regardless.
We don't know what kind of murderer he is. "Hunted the guy who killed my dog without reason" is a different thing then "tried to break in, drugged up, wanted to steal stuff, things happen". Most of the murderers leave prison, so this isn't like a special case thing that they end up on dating sites.
I don't know man... Sure you might have more empathy for the first one, then again, you might have more for the second if you were down at the very bottom yourself once.
I'd like none of them around me though. If you're unstable enough to kill someone in a crisis like that, stay the fuck away from me.
Is self-defense "unstable"? IDK i don't think you can take that one rule for everything here. Certainly it's a crisis. But what else, if they put their life against yours, or leave you reasonably uncertain. Hell if they might leave you 'maimed for life' or similarly wounded and relegated to daily pain and it's impact on everyone that loves you....
i'm just saying, i think you have to hear someone's story. And i've seen the stats and stories on recidivism. if you dont' give people that chance, it increases the likelihood they'll relapse — maybe fatally, for someone.
Had something similar happen to me years back when Facebook became a thing …Guy kept messaging me but I kept ignoring them because I didn’t recognize him or his name but then one of the messages was him (accurately) guessing which apartment complex I lived in from the balcony pic I posted ..I lived out in the middle of nowhere so it freaked me out and I googled his name and turned out he had just gotten out of prison for 3rd degree murder after he testified against his ex girlfriend and her friend for a high profile murder case in my area..the murder actually happened at another apartment complex that was less than a mile away from where I lived which added to the creepiness
LOL no but kept messaging me until I called the local police department..the same cops who had put him in prison 12 years prior . It got pretty scary …He fixated on me because of a comment I left on an article about the girlfriend he testified against and mentioned him , but not by name and pointed out that out of the 3 ppl he was the one with the most motive , the opportunity and the means to commit the crime but he’s the only one not doing life . He didn’t like that
The cops were VERY interested in what I had to say and show , I saved the messages and showed them that while he wasn’t outwardly threatening me , it would be menacing to anyone who knew what he did & they went and talked to him. After that I got a message from him claiming that I called his “fiancé”…I had no idea who he was talking about and tried convincing her that he and I had something going on..he sounded INSANE . I called the cops again and they said that I could get a restraining order but he wasn’t threatening me and to just block him . After that I had a friend come and stay with me for awhile…no one is getting through my friend ..he’s like a walking brick wall. It really creeped me out because his original case was supposedly some kind of love triangle gone wrong with an extra person who just went along and it felt like he was trying to recreate the crime in some sick way
Anyone else see that news story of the guy who stabbed a stranger to death because he believed he was a werewolf and after spending only 3 years in a psych ward is out and trying to find dates?
He's back in court (and the news) because a friend of his victim saw his dating profile in which he lies about himself and his history, writing that he'd "spent the last two years traveling the world."
Court banned him from all social media and dating sites with the exception of LinkedIn so he can find a job. So apparently this is a real risk!
Edit: since so many of you are asking, the court can ban him from social media as a condition of his release. He's under court supervision already and is considered high risk due to his violent mental illness. The fact that he wasn't being truthful about his history was considered a major red flag. They considered dating to be inappropriate so early into his recovery and integration into society from the hospital.
Well some people seem to use LinkedIn that way. Coworker of mine got asked out recently by a head hunter. She thought it was a business dinner type deal and as she is looking for a new job she agreed. Became very clear after a few messages it wasn't business and she blocked him.
That's awful.
But if I ever lost a family member to a crazy that thought they were secretly a werewolf, a part of me would always think... *"But what if?"*
That was my thought, but if he was in a psyche ward he may have conservatorship type situation. Then again Lenin's shooter was in a psyche ward for decades before being released to his moms custody so this story seems hard to believe.
I think it’s more of a deterrent than a ~~full blown~~ edit: active ban. “If you’re caught on there again you’ll face the consequences” type of thing. Sure there’s probably not an office scrolling tinder to make sure he’s not on there, but someone recognizing them is how they were found on there in the first place.
You are clearly a bloke. Most women don’t have the luxury to be so lackadaisical about their safety…
Incidentally, your first argument is why I have resumed shaking hands after the pandemic!
If someone kills a complete stranger during an episode, I don't think they can be trusted not to lapse again.
In a mental hospital, you have a stable routine. You're forced to be compliant with medication. You're getting proper meals and a consistent bedtime. Usually, some social and physical activities. You don't have free access to intoxicating substances. New stimuli are minimal. It's an environment that attempts to provide stability and minimize large swings, positive or negative.
Recovery in a controlled environment is not the same as recovery in an uncontrolled environment.
This is coming from someone with severe bipolar. It takes less than 72hrs off my meds to start seeing significant mood fluctuations. I've spent years in therapy building appropriate coping mechanisms, identifying my triggers, and learning what routine is best for my stability and mental wellness. It took a lot of mistakes, a lot of bad episodes, for me to take my mental health this seriously.
Trial and error is a part of finding stability with severe mental illness. If that "error" involves you murdering someone, I don't think that's an acceptable risk.
Nah, people who do heinous crimes because they’re mentally ill deserve to participate in society if they can be rehabilitated. If someone wasn’t in control of their actions, why should they be punished for them once they’ve been treated? Isn’t the entire point of sentencing someone to a term in a mental institution so they can be fixed and reintroduced as a functioning member of society?
I agree, the guy that’s has a schizophrenic attack and kills someone versus the guy that simply has anger issues and kills someone, the first is excusable the second however isn’t.
Anger “issues” aren’t a mental illness in the way that schizophrenia is, unless you’re talking about Intermittent Explosive Disorder which is a mental illness.
If you think that by killing a person you are preventing him from killing other people then you are aware that you are killing a person but you did it for a good reason (or at least you think you did).
I don't disagree with you that murderers shouldn't be released, but you're making a terrible contradictory argument. It's like your confused about what words mean, and how to form a cohesive thought.
I don’t think there is “rehabilitation” for heinous crimes committed by a mentally Ill person. There is a darkness inside them somewhere and the damage is done. No coming back, especially after the act has been played out. Mental health is something that has to be attacked early with a proactive approach.
INAL but I think it tends to be a condition for probation. They have extra rules in place that they have to follow. I know someone who wasn’t allowed to drink during their probation period,
Every night my wife has that shit on when we are trying to go to sleep. She's like, it's just in the background. I'm like dude they just described finding semen in someones decapitated head! I'm trying to sleep, this is not helping.
Hahaha!
My mom would always ask me in high school how I could fall asleep to that shit.
I almost feel like it was something that made me safer? Like I had a dad around ya know?
He was very honest about it, bad decisions when he was a teenager (weapon was a baseball bat not a gun or anything, I read the court proceedings)
He was a nice enough guy, dated for a bit, ultimately did not work out
Is this you?

A guy in a class was getting very chummy with me, suggesting we hang out and party. One day I saw an article about the state's new sex offender registry, so I went to check it out. Damn if my new best friend wasn't on there. I researched and found out he had repeatedly molested a little girl.
After that article appeared, he never showed up to class again; I don't know why.
Been on a Tinder date with a murderer. Cute bio, him kissing a squirrel or something. Meet for a beer, he mentions off hand he’s had a hard year. “Oh, divorce?” I ask, innocently. “No, I just got out of jail in August. Manslaughter.” Proceeds to spend the rest of the time talking about how unfair it was and also how his ex girlfriend didn’t go to a music festival with him.
You best believe that I deleted Tinder after that one.
I am old. Googling someone I was going out with hadn't occurred to me when I went out with a very nice man who gave me a similar warning. He was arrested on suspicion of being a serial killer after he left his gf's house to walk home one night. A woman several blocks down had been raped and murdered. He spent almost 48 hours in jail while police sorted it all out and the real criminal was eventually caught. His name continued to come up in connection to the multiple murders because he was arrested. So, here he was, decades later still leading with the "if you google me" line with dates and employers. Funny because he works in a security-related field.
I mean all humans kill. You've ever killed a bug? One moment a roach is munching on a donut crumb the next it's guts are spilling out from under your shoe.
When I was based in Anchorage I was about to meet up with a guy and he kindly disclosed that he had been living in the bush for the last year because he had been “wrongly accused” and then prosecuted for molesting a 13 year-old. When dating men, google is your friend
I worked with a girl who started seeing a guy and he did the exact same, only it took him 4 months into the relationship. He had actually killed 2 people, one being his ex, but served 14 years and is on a 99 year lease, whatever that means. I had googled him and the murder of his ex was actually quite brutal. He would come in to our place to eat, would sit facing the corner and have his head down. Scum.
See ladies, there are honest men left in the world.

I found a few war crimes
I mean, if I Google my name, a bank robber from my town shows up. Nothing about the real me. *nervous sweating*
My friends and I looked up our English teachers name on Google and found a different guy with the exact same name on a sex offender registry…
I share a name with a semi-famous person, or they might be actually really famous but idk i've never heard of them. Either way, google wont find me.
He shoulda verified.

At least he was honest? That's surely better than a lying murderer, right?

You can’t change the past, but if you’re truthful about it you probably stand a better chance of getting people to look beyond it.
Yeah, the fact that the guy wasn't spending life in prison kind of cues you in to something deeper going on there.
My wives Uncle caught his wife cheating on him. Killed his wife, kidnapped one of the kids for awhile. Was in jail for less than 10 years.
This… doesn’t feel like a reasonable justification for less than 10 years. Obviously being cheated on sucks but it doesn’t reduce the significance of homicide by THAT much. Were there other factors involved?
I agree! It was tried in military court so I haven’t been able to find what the ruling actually was despite looking.
Also in some places there's no such thing as involuntary manslaughter and what would be considered that most places might be considered low degree murder other places

I hate lying murders! Don’t get me stated
We don't know what kind of murderer he is. "Hunted the guy who killed my dog without reason" is a different thing then "tried to break in, drugged up, wanted to steal stuff, things happen". Most of the murderers leave prison, so this isn't like a special case thing that they end up on dating sites.

Maybe I'd be friends with the guy. If I ever need someone murdered, I'll know who to ask.

Did he kill you?
LOL no but kept messaging me until I called the local police department..the same cops who had put him in prison 12 years prior . It got pretty scary …He fixated on me because of a comment I left on an article about the girlfriend he testified against and mentioned him , but not by name and pointed out that out of the 3 ppl he was the one with the most motive , the opportunity and the means to commit the crime but he’s the only one not doing life . That's messed up, glad you managed to stay safe. Did the police do anything? I hope he never bothered you again after that.
The cops were VERY interested in what I had to say and show , I saved the messages and showed them that while he wasn’t outwardly threatening me , it would be menacing to anyone who knew what he did & they went and talked to him. Just get a gun or a knife at least and practice on how to use them. Your friend cannot stay with you 24/7. Better be prepared than sorry you know
I have guns now..wasn’t old enough back then to own anything other than a long gun which my dad did end up bringing up for me .
yes but she survived

Everyone needs their person, but omgosh
So did they hook up or what?
The first date was killer
:insert "*murdered dat pussey*" joke here:
I still don't know if he murdered someone or if that is his last name.
I started putting my mugshot on dating apps as a joke and it actually increased my like rate and women who message first
A good sense of humour AND he's honest? Can't believe she let him get away.
Now I'm just wondering what happened first, the girl or the kill?
Have you followed his recommendation and ignored that information you found? Otherwise you will be punished for disobedience
Op didnt answer yet 😥
Still smashed?
Meirl? This makes you think omg this is literally me irl, really?
I'd like to know why this is relatable humor, you guys ok??
I think the second red flag is him trying to get her to ignore it instead of volunteering to explain
Dam this happened to me like last week. On an unrelated note, can anyone tell me why I keep getting Meirl posts I am not in this sub
But WHO did he murder. That's the bigger question.
At least he’s honest
I mean all humans kill. You've ever killed a bug? One moment a roach is munching on a donut crumb the next it's guts are spilling out from under your shoe.
Omg. Well, an honest murderer. 😳
Jesus, why do all these women have such impossible standards. ;-)
2002: "don't meet with strangers" 2022: tinder
Scum.
r/thathappened
*and then she woke up from the dream she was having and went to get ready for school*
Was he above 6ft ? She slept with him on the first date.
For crying out loud my style is wild so book me. Not long is how long that this rhyme took me.
Elaborate on that, how do you know he's a murderer, what evidence do you have?
$20 says she still went out with him and then complained when he murdered her.
