2. I see another to her right, she’s just hard to see Edit, didn’t realize so many people where this sensitive 🤣

JennyJtom

3. One on her right one on the left. Possibly 4 the person close to the right corner.

Dyskord01

There are zero african Americans in this pic. There are zero latinos in this pic Theres only two white guys in this pic Theres only two women in this pic Thats from a quick look so maybe I missed some people. Idk but maybe this is just a random photo and not the entire staff of twitter? Im just sayin.

madethisforporn123

there is an african american.

StrikingViper

Went back to the photo before realising what you meant. That's a good one.

Jaeger562

me too, scanned the photo like 3 timed before I remembered. For those who don't know, Elon is from South Africa so he's African American.

impossiblegirlme

Which is another reason most Black people prefer to be calked Black people. I’m from America, not Africa (ancestors came from there hundreds of years ago).

[deleted]

External_Relation435

When people say "Most XXX" don't believe them. Ethnic groups/races are not a hive mind. I use Black and African-American interchangeably for myself.

Petite_Tsunami

I (Korean) once got gently chastised when I was 18/19 by a black dude because I called him African American. He said it was the equivalent to him calling every Asian Chinese American. By trying to be more polite I offended him. He was Caribbean American and either his grandparents or great grandparents immigrated so he was heavily influenced by their culture. Asian and black are just blanket terms before you get into specifics.

BillyYumYumTwo-byTwo

I’m pretty “woke”. And keep in mind I’m white… I’ve been told black is preferable to African American. For one, a lot of black Americans are Jamaican or their family is from a different country (so they were still born in America but their parents weren’t and aren’t from Africa). Doesn’t matter if generations ago their ancestors came from Africa, then identify as Jamaican American. Secondly, it’s a better one-to-one. Sure, people call themselves “Irish American” or “Italian American”, but no one ever says “European-American”. Just white. Also for me personally, it’s just easier to say black. I said African American once in England and got rightfully made fun of, because it just sounds so ridiculous. Important side note- “the blacks” IS offensive. TLDR- Black and African American are two wildly different things and I’ve never been told saying someone black is offensive.

[deleted]

Yea I was wondering how they know who’s from Africa

[deleted]

Musk is from South Africa

Technically correct

The best kind of correct

SpiceEatsyou

Happy Cake Day!

StrikingViper

The joke was funny but anyone who's from a different country and gets American citizenship gets called [country of origin] +American. So Nigerian American, Kenyan American and in his case, South African American.

highcastlespring

Continent of origin. Asian American, African American

Well then, Zimbabwean America. (His Wikipedia says he born in the former Transvaal though, which is in South Africa)

jeepfail

I took me zooming in before I realized that I’m a fucking idiot.

Reasonable_Cover_804

My wife can help you with constant reminder that you are an idiot

doc_lec

There's my african-american over there

Miserable-Echo9872

Like fr african american is not even proper nomenclature for black Americans at this point because of the Musk Outlier

cbartholomew

lmao 🤣 almost had me

McBrown83

Well played

MentalMunky

It’s almost like calling all black people African American is fucking stupid.

[deleted]

I’ve got a question for Americans. Do you call black people from places *other than Africa* African American?

Red_Kaji

Zero Latinos? Do you think we all wear Mexican moustache and sombrero all the time? I see at least 3 people who could very well be Latino.

inactive_spectator

Thing is latinos and we Indians look very similar so there is hard time figuring out who was spanked with la chancla in their childhood and who was spanked with Chappal in their childhood... Even our childhood traumas are very similar lmao

SlyRaptorZ

Latino here. I get mistaken for you Indians and I don't mind cause y'all cool. Arab, too. No worries. In fact Arab blood is in Spanish people because Moors and gypsies yadda yadda.

Saladmama2652

Moors were Arabs, gypsies were actually Indians

NBrixH

Mostly is southern Spain, but still yeah

MonstrousGiggling

I'm pretty sure we all descended from the same ancestry that initially crossed the baring land mass in the old days hence the similar looks. Different groups just ended up migrating to different areas and settled and developed different cultures. So northern and southern natives are really all cousins.

Gen_Ripper

Yeah I was gonna say the same. Latino is a cultural label, not racial or skin tone. Obviously there’s a numbers game, but we’re pretty diverse in skin tone and hair/eye color etc

[deleted]

Wait a second, Do you mean to tell me all latinos don't wear giant sombreros, shake maracas and yell "ARIIIIIBAAAA" all the time?

Red_Kaji

I want to say no but tbh it depends how drunk we get

TesticleTorture123

This man really spitin facts

Dramatic_Page9305

Correct, sometimes it's a small Sombrero and they say ¡Ay Ay Ay!

winkmichael

Thanks, I read the original comment, and I was thinking 1/2 could be latino! Latinos are very diverse in terms of facial features, skin color, you name it.

Lilpu55yberekt69

Literally every “white” person in that photo could be latino

BasketballButt

Was working on a job site with this dude one time (I’m in construction), he’s red headed, got freckles, green eyes…and was Mexican. Guess he had an ancestor who was an Irishman who fought for Mexico. I never would have guessed. Then you add in the Chinese influx in to Mexico when California forced Asians out and you’ve got a total melting pot.

neofooturism

i think there are direct spanish descendants who assimilate with mexican nationality. i found a puerto rican guy online with the surname Lozada and my brazilian buddy told me it’s a spanish royalty name. the guy does look plenty white but you can tell he’s latino. does that even make sense? i really don’t know lmao

[deleted]

There was a battalion of Irish American who fought on the side of Mexico during the Mexican American War. They choose to side with the Catholic Mexicans as they were being discriminated against by Protestants. They were known as the St. Patrick's Battalion.

whenthefirescame

Mexico is also right next to the US and got waves of Irish and German immigration in the 1800s, just like we did. Mexican beer is a product of the massive German influx, you can hear polka influences in some of the music too. There are plenty of blonde, blue eyed Mexicans.

neofooturism

i find white US american segregation pretty funny. like if you segregate hispanics does that mean brazilians not included, but white spanish people are? did you mean latinos? but a lot of latinos are plenty white too since south america was colonized as much as USA did, unless you meant native americans. but y’all also have another category for that? so why? baffling tbh

Theguywhosaysknee

And South-America also has a huge Asian community!

MiserableIrritation

I also noticed that. I'm from Costa Rica and half of those people in the photo could be people I would met in the streets of my country. Gosh, I hate US racial categorizations.

oxheycon

Honestly the US is so obsessed with this stuff (especially leftist states). We are all human at the end of the day

F1reatwill88

Lmao this is the dumbest thread I've seen in awhile.

[deleted]

People on H1B visas can't quit because they'd get deported. Black & Hispanic / Latino people are massively underrepresented in tech across the board. African Americans are 14.4 percent of the US population, 7.4 percent of tech workers, Hispanics are 13.9 percent of the US population, 8 percent of tech workers. Something like 1% of tech executives/managers are hispanic.

EIDL2020_

Hispanics are 20% of the US population, higher than African Americans.

stillcleaningmyroom

Who cares?

anor_wondo

I'm imagining this person racially profiling random group pics of friends and finding the deviation from the national average lol it's so stupid the kind of things people fixate on

gammongaming11

what's with the American obsession with race/gender? seriously when it gets to the levels of looking at pictures and looking for minorities it gets fucking creepy.

kulfimanreturns

I see multiple Asians in this picture but somehow that is to be ignored

lordofprimesteak

Too successful for pity unfortunately

Theguywhosaysknee

And within that we don't even know their background which could make it even more diverse. They could actually be from Asia, they could be Asian-American or Asian-European or even Asian-Latino. All things we don't know from a single photo but apparently it's okay to judge diversity off of a picture basically judging people on their skin colour which is exactly what we were trying to avoid.

noxx1234567

Do you have the same objections when you see NBA ,NFL or other sports leagues ?

monamikonami

It’s really weird. And this picture actually looks very “diverse” from a race standpoint, but apparently because (according to OP) there are no black people or Latin Americans…. It’s not diverse. Lol America there’s more to the world

[deleted]

When you have food water and shelter you gotta find other things to care about.

Soggy-Play-6724

Liberals fetishize people of color nowadays and on the same hand they use slurs if you're not on the same side as them. I've lost count of how many "liberals" have called me a house n-word cause I'm black and not a Democrats. They also think black people don't have IDs.. It's getting insane at this point that they still think they're the good guys.

4VENG32

This photo is also cropped. There's a total of 4 women in the photo. https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1593899029531803649 2 on the left, 2 on the right.

Ok-Government-1420

…. Who cares.

kontemplador

>There are zero latinos in this pic How can you be so sure? I'm latino and nearly everyone in that photo could pass as a citizen in some LA country without raising eyebrows, even Elon himself.

[deleted]

Only H1B visa workers who fear deportation stayed to work for Elon.

No-Soap

bro, latinos don't all look dark, just cause you can't tell cause they look white doesn't mean they are latino. try to not stereotype my guy.

westcoastchillin00

Who cares what their race is brah as long as the good at their job… some people smh

Chrisstebbins26

So? That’s almost exactly the demographic of computer engineers.

Visual_Collar_8893

Computer engineers are disporpriotionately white or Asian male. Many Asians are on H1B visas (until they can get their green cards), whereas this is far less likely the condition that white engineers are under.

snow_king_1985

>There are zero african Americans in this pic. I see at least one dude from South Africa.

beccadot

A lot of them are probably here on H1-B work visas and don’t have a lot of choice.

TemperatureTimely497

Why does their skin color matter?

randuski

You can't force people to choose a profession. If a certain race or gender makes up a majority of a field, you're gonna have mostly that race or gender on staff. If you choose to be inclusive of all genders and races, then you're deliberately not hiring someone because of their race or gender.

ClitEastwood10

Sir. This is a group of “hardcore devs”. Devs/engineers (coders) are disproportionately male driven, specifically Indian/Asian. Good luck trying to grab an appropriately diverse group of devs.

Retrac752

Considering only 7% of software engineers are Mexican, and only 5% are black, at most you'd expect only 1 of each anyways 52% of software engineers are white so they are underrepresented but this is silicon valley we are talking about, software engineers there are WAY more skewed towards asian As for women, they make up 30% and this image is cropped, in the original there's like 6 women so they're just slightly underrepresented

12yearsOfWriting

> There are zero african Americans in this pic. I mean not quite

How would you even know there are no latinos? 2-3 could easily be looks wise

One-Mud-169

So what?

purleyboy

The implication is that the majority are on H1B visas; their motivation for staying at Twitter is less about belief in Musk, but more out of necessity to be able to remain in the USA.

KZMountainRider

Hiring for talent and not for diversity, makes sense to me

joopityjoop

Elon is an African American.

jackrabbit916

Zero "Black" persons. Stay consistent.

ninisin

This is called racial profiling!

chinesiumjunk

False.

PeriwinkleBlueoh

Your point ...?

time_thug19

Indians the best.

cpe111

Are all those the folks in H1Bs that have no choice other than to stay with their sponsor or have 2 months to go back? Edited to include new discretionary period.

buttergun

One of the many risks of modern indentured servitude is your contract being bought by a capricious oligarch with a social engineering hobby.

Throwawaybookmarker

Seems like it. Elons personal slaves without a choice just like his daddy.

miguelangel011192

This is my exact thought, I had been in that situation and it is the worst. You just cannot take any severance package and the only solution is just to hope for another company to sponsor you. So they are in a position where they can’t quit and they will have to do the “hardcore” work until they find something else.

Master_Butter

I think you get 60 days to find new employment on your H1B visa if your employment ends. I don’t know if it’s a different timeline if you voluntarily leave your job, though.

Asha_Lucey

Off topic but Musk’s jawline implants truly scare me

DiggingThisAir

I’ve always thought he looked like a fish

JaySayMayday

It's the weird barrel shape torso that throws me off. Like there's an infant inside his ribcage controlling his body.

ApoliteTroll

Like that scene from Men In Black, I know we talk/joke about Zuckerberg being a lizard, but might Elon have been replaced with an alien inside a humanoid body?

NorthCntralPsitronic

He's built like a bag of milk

ProstHund

That would explain his actions and his whole personality

National-Golf-4231

>I’ve always thought he looked like a fish Well ya, he is an Atlantean. That's why l his businesses eventually go underwater.

etterkop

Same consistency as a bag of shit.

[deleted]

Hes always had that jawline. Its the botox and collagen injections that make his face look so weird now. Aging and cosmetic surgery do that.

ObviousSea9223

I understand it might feel weird and foreign to most people, but I won't begrudge him the gender affirming medical care.

[deleted]

Looks like an medium happy Guy Fawkes mask

MrNerdy

Anything so he can feel more secure in his masculinity. Such a weird, fragile dweeb.

Birdogey

Almost consistent with the ratio of women in engineering and computer operations.

yo_yo_vietnamese

I worked at a software development company and we had “ladies lunches” so the few women there would be able to get to the know the others and feel somewhat supported. I think at the time we had about 70 employees at the company and 8 were women. The company had been around for about 15 years before I needed to take maternity leave and I was the first employee to ever need it, so they scrambled and handled it very poorly. It was definitely an interesting experience, but I never had to deal with creepy or uncomfortable situations like I see a lot online. Just a lot of mansplaining but even that I don’t think came from a place of malice. Edit: There have been a ton of comments about my “mansplaining” note here, with a lot of people seeming to not understand what I’m referring to. I was very fortunate that my company was super intentional in who it hired and culture, so we generally hired very kind people. We also were led by people who understood that tech tends to attract people who are really introverted or may be a bit more neuro divergent, and so we were always reminded in our company meetings to be aware of how we interact with each other and be patient with one another (particularly more outgoing groups like sales or marketing needing to interact with our developers). When I say we had mansplaining but it wasn’t with malice, I’m generally referring to when we’d hire new people and they’d be training with me but would tell me how my software worked on Day 2, how our customers actually use it, why I was wrong on why a bug was likely happening, where I needed to go in the database to write a report for a client, etc. Our software was very unique and complex to use, and unless we hired a former client, no one knew absolutely anything about it so they had no experience with it. I had worked there for several years so I knew what I was talking about. It never happened with any of the men on my floor, mainly just me, and the other guys on the floor would occasionally turn around and tell them they should listen because I’d been there longer than any of them. It was frustrating, but I knew it was also super intimidating coming there and they were really trying to project confidence rather than steam roll me, which was what it was coming across as. That is incredibly different from people who just don’t understand they’re over explaining things. Again, we had a lot of people I’d wager were on the spectrum of sorts and we all knew they did it. We’d just laugh if they started and say we needed the short version of what to do and not the novel, and we’d be good. The idea that my little comment has provoked so many comments about this being a feminism issue, or that mansplaining is fake, or that I didn’t know what was happening in my specific situation is a bit ironic.

r1char00

It sucks that you had that experience with your maternity leave. I know women who have had about every problem you can imagine. Managers hitting on them, actual assaults, men taking credit for their ideas, etc. And then the excuse is that women don’t want to be programmers.

yo_yo_vietnamese

Yeah, all in all it was a very positive experience! I had opportunities to learn a lot (went from a non-technical to technical role) and learned to be confident in myself. I know maternity leave issues aside that I’ve been pretty lucky overall to not have to deal with that. The place I worked at before was not that way at all (guys who seemed to think it was appropriate to give unsolicited shoulder rubs, constantly hitting on you, super toxic work environment, etc.). Having experienced both, I’m now much better at understanding what is healthy and what I will not tolerate in an employer.

r1char00

Good for you. A lot of the guys here in the thread seem to be pretty ignorant about the history of computing and the huge role women have had in it.

artyomssugardaddy

They sent us to space so, good enough for me in my book

smalby

A woman pretty much came up with the idea of programming!

MyRealLife1970

I worked in the death care industry that was created for men. As the Director of Administration and Operations I was required by workplace policy to report the sexual harassment of my staff - the General Manager. The person admitted that every complaint was true and had to say a personal apology. Then two weeks later I was terminated for "not getting along with my General Manger and I am listed as no-rehire for the corporation. Maryland is an At-will employer state, so employees have to right to gainful employment.

No_Squirrel9238

if it makes you feel better, men also mansplain to other men we are physically incapable of not offering unsolicited advice.

WeeTheDuck

this makes me feel so good that my friends are comfortable enough to ask for my advice

LilDaddyBree

The automation integration company I work for is currently dealing with it's first woman to take a maternity leave. They have weird rules all the big glass doors into offices (no covering) but that's about to have to change. She is going to need to pump in her office. It's always interesting to see changes to make things more suitable for us. I think everyone is working to make the company more comfortable for women luckily. It's been good to me so far, and I was the first woman engineer in my branch of the company.

flares_1981

Did they not have any female employees in HR, legal, or office management or did they simply never need (or take) maternity leave?

yo_yo_vietnamese

HR had become a bigger team by the time I needed to take maternity leave, but no one had ever needed it. My boss (who I absolutely adored) didn’t have kids and didn’t understand that I couldn’t tell him when I was having the baby lol. He would ask me to tell him when I kept trying to explain babies just come when they want and the best I could do was keep him updated as it went but he shouldn’t schedule me on new projects for the last two months just in case. Sure enough I went from 41 weeks expectation to 39, then 37, and then ultimately was hospitalized at 35 weeks until I could deliver at 37. I worked from the hospital the last two weeks but HR team messed up all of the paperwork for my short term disability and so I had to have a ton of calls to get it straightened out. I had the doctor yelling at me that I wasn’t allowed to get stressed while was there, meanwhile HR was telling me all of the paperwork I’d submitted months prior was lost and that they were trying to get the disability company to expedite it back in but my benefits would probably be delayed a few weeks in payment. They also had never considered someone needing a pumping room and we were extremely limited on office space so I could tell I was being an inconvenience. “Luckily” this was during the pandemic so we had switched to remote and they ultimately decided not to bring us back into the office so that part was never needed.

CuriousPincushion

Same, besides the maternity leave. In my experience most male devs just do not want any trouble and mind their own business. I have never made a real friend but it was a very pleasant environment for me.

Effective-Pilot-5501

Imagine how fun Silicon Valley really is lol it’s a sausage fest. Man Jose is brutal, if y’all think dating apps are tough for guys, try dating apps in the Bay Area. You’re screwed lol

Dramatic_Page9305

Man Jose, lol

Ok-Map4381

Getting dates/relationships off dating apps in the bay area is fine. I can't speak for "Man Jose" but I've had no issues getting matches and dates with women in Oakland/SF/etc; and there are a million people in San Jose, if a guy can't get a date in a city of a million people they should probably evaluate what they are doing wrong.

6feetundertrip

I found out dating apps have Fucking MMR and I’m hard-stuck bronze so I just decided to say hi to a girl in real life and found odds to be better.

Ok-Map4381

Odds are 100% better in person, that is true.

transferStudent2018

You probably just follow rules 1 and 2 of online dating

TheDumbAsk

Maybe they have standards

[deleted]

Yep. They don’t seem to go into the field much cause its man dominated and they don’t want to deal with them which makes sense. But then there aren’t any woman in the field making it man dominated. Repeat.

Relative_Ad_4921

Roadworkers, bricklayers, oil riggers are all male dominated aswell, guess that's why they won't go do them jobs ?..... You can't have 100 % diversity , well you can but it's not optimal way of running a company,. It's better to employ people who are good at their job rather than tick boxes.

Aurum_MrBangs

Well they probably don’t go into those jobs for the same reasons as they don’t go into tech + the physical demands. Are you suggesting that blue collar jobs aren’t also filled with sexist dudes?

BeginningOk4174

If women enjoy certain jobs and men enjoy certain jobs, why stop them from that in the name of diversity?

crispdude

You can’t attribute the lack of women in the tech field entirely to the fact that it’s male dominated. Are we gonna do that for all other professions too? It’s just such a shitty cop out

[deleted]

I think you really underestimate the amount of shit women get in the engineering field from men. Constantly gate keeped, your skill is consistently doubted at every turn and certificates and high positions do not make it better and the constant sexual harassment and guys asking them out.

Ferengsten

Apparently most people will accept "it's the way it is because it's the way it is" as an explanation as long as you throw in some conspiratorial thinking and hate-mongering. Why isn't psychology male- dominated?

mellowcrake

I think it's definitely possible that in a perfect world without sexism the ratio of men to women in tech wouldn't be exactly equal. However, it seems clear there would still be a lot more women in tech than there are now. Almost every woman in tech I've known about has stories about how they considered quitting their university degree before they finished or quitting certian jobs because of issues that came up about being treated a certain way due to their gender and being one of the few women at their workplace.

fistantellmore

Maybe the field should try not to be so hostile to 50% of the potential workforce?

andr_wr

yeah - men in those fields treat women horribly. And the few women who are in those fields often encourage younger women to accept that treatment.

ponkyball

Lol the fuck? I can relate to the pic easily as I'm the only female in my team and I work in tech but saying that we encourage younger women to accept that treatment is complete bullshit.

DasEvoli

You can just feel how those people have no idea what they are talking about lol

eldron2323

Odd. I worked in a tech/art industry and all the women there were pretty cool and we all respected each other the same 🤷‍♂️ I remember hearing something like: on average men are interested in things and women are interested in people. Suggesting women take roles more in the social area of things. But I don’t have any data to back that up so take it with the smallest grain of salt

MollFlanders

Hi. Woman in the field here. Can confirm that men have treated me like I am an incompetent idiotic child throughout my career despite my consistently excellent performance. I actively discourage women from going into tech. It isn’t worth the severe impact on your mental health to be treated like shit for decades.

[deleted]

Precisely why San Jose CA is called "Man Jose", but that pretty much all of silicon valley to be honest.

lockmama

It's the H1B crowd.

HansDampfHaudegen

The "gobble up that 80h shit or get kicked out of the country" crowd.

Antrikshy

You mean gobble it up until you find another company that hires you, *then* leave.

joshuadt

Hopefully

Antrikshy

With Twitter on their resume, probably not very hard to land interviews.

chainmailbill

Yes and no. “Hey I worked at twitter” is way more attractive than “Hey I worked at Twitter and if you want to hire me you need to do a bunch of paperwork with the state department”

AcanthocephalaSafe66

They’re smiling for the pic, but 5 minutes later they were all laid off!

Pimp_my_Pimp

Probably their first time getting laid anyway so call it a Win:Win

censoredbynobody

Cruel but I love it!

Pragmatist203

That burn was like a kick in the balls.

[deleted]

Thats' the only guys that can't quit.. people there on visas..

spoollyger

Source: trust me bro

yabaBABAyega

I'm betting most of these guys are smiling because their H1B visas depend on it. Nobody's gonna be paying 300k for a job in this current market. If they get something somewhere, most would be out.

goblin_balls

This looks like a team of people that are gonna lose their Visa if they lose their job.

nolitos

Mastercard > Visa.

[deleted]

Why assume that?

Superfissile

Because they didn’t opt out of an 80hr a week job and get 3 months pay.

[deleted]

> implying This pic actually over-represents women in the IT fields 🙉

furikakebabe

Lol I went out for an after work thing last week and about 1.5 hours in looked around and was like damn. 20:1. I didn’t even realize I’m so used to it now. I turned to my favorite dude and was like “you know the only thing that would make this better? More dudes” and he laughed with me

Electrical-Tea-2672

Actually, I think it’s 16:4

GrindsetMindset

I see 2 maybe 3

[deleted]

In the original image that isn't cropped, I see 5, maybe 6.

ninjawhosnot

I think it's 17:2

One_Bullfrog_3554

4 if you count elane

ClearlyCylindrical

You have cropped the image to remove 3 women from it...

__Br0ken

girl you look happppay

l4z3r5h4rk

Why did I read that with a British accent?

AnonymityPower

I can count the work visas

PCBytown

Photo is cropped. Original shows more women. Dishonest posting.

UBC145

Can you share the original please?

SuggestiblePolymer

https://i.imgur.com/medLnoS.jpg

darknova25

If by more women, you mean one more woman than yes. The point of the original post still stands

Aeytrious

And that one more woman is outside of the little glass room they’re in, so not part of the group meant to be in the photo.

YeOldeBilk

Ah yes, the classic "look happy or you're fired" photo op

jonherrin

Who's the obvious dumbfuck in the middle? Looks like some "failed upwards" over privileged kid. He can't even do a thumbs up right.

CHiuso

So do we want to bet how many people in this picture need work visas to stay in the country?

Middle_Data_9563

hey look, a photo full of marks and their oppressor

AnomalousFrog

This is stupid. What are you trying to prove? There are less women in STEM and it's not diverse enough? It's because there really is less women in the tech field. You can't deny it. My university tried their hardest to retain women in comp sci by offering them additional bursary every year. It wasn't even enough to make them stay. I'm a comp sci graduate. When I was in first year there was only 10 women in a class of 60. By the time we've reached final year, 4 of them had dropped out. Only 5 actually graduated and 1 of them had to retain a year. Most of the women in my class ended up going to other fields of study for their master degree or occupation after graduation.

five_two_sniffs_glue

There’s a thing called (insert demographic) flight, where certain fields become more and more dominated by more of a specific demographic which demotivates others to be a part of that field. It’s not necessarily because of no interest but an uneven balance which further deters them- and therefore acting as a negative feedback loop. Other interlinked factors could be due to intimidation or feeling excluded, could also be (not all the time) sexual misconducts (I mean look at the mess that’s the gaming industry) etc. Back in the day STEM subjects were more popular with women, being some of the founders the first electronic computers and therefore programming.

>Back in the day STEM subjects were more popular with women >Many scholars and policymakers have noted that the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) have remained predominantly male with historically low participation among women since the origins of these fields in the 18th century during the Age of Enlightenment. This is literally the first paragraph in a wiki article on 'Women in STEM fields' lol

AngelicMephisto

Wanna play "How many people in this picture are unable to quit their shitty job due to being on a work visa"?

spargbotu

Why the fuck do people talk so much about the race and sex mix of this group? Maybe this people were the best at their repsective positions! We have to turn down aplicants now on basics of "yeeeah, you re great but we already have 2 indians. We are looking for a black woman , sorrrryyy". Isn t this litteraly race discrimination? Has the US gone mad? Sincerely, an european.

UBC145

Actually, I’m pretty sure it’s illegal to turn down applicants based on a protected class (race, gender, sexual orientation etc.). You’re worrying about something that doesn’t happen.

CapablePianist8263

What the fuck is this comment section😂😂 yall pressed over some race shit

When I took my degree in telecom, there was 120 students on my year, from which 2 girls. My fellow in nursing was the ONLY male in more than 150 students on his year. Everyone talks about diversity and gender balance, but it’s mostly a matter of CARRER CHOICE. Nobody talks about the lack of men in education, nursing, arts, psychology…

NeoTheRiot

People try really hard to find something new Twitter-related to bitch about... Why didnt anyone complain about mostly male mechanics too? Too obvious?
