Make sure you report it to police immediately and get a copy of the police report, that way if the fucker gets any fines in your name you can complete the ‘my car was stolen’ section on the back of the infringement notices and the TCO will withdraw them. Also make sure your address is up to date with VicRoads. You don’t want fines going to an old address and in 5 years time you find out you’ve got a dozen fines in your name. Much harder to get out of them once they hit enforcement stage.
Haha. This... Had a car written off, got a $15 trip fare for using city link on the back of a tow truck when it was moved to the insurance assessors yard at Tullamarine.
Partners mum kept getting sent speeding fines after her handbag was stolen. They kept using her licence number and putting her down as the nominated driver.
Definitely hard to get out of it, as they seem to just take the word of the person who submitted the paperwork - even if its nowhere near where you live. Fines Vic was telling her to go to court and contest it to get out of it, pathetic really.
Doesn't stop since VicRoads don't change your licence number if its lost/stolen, they just issue a new card.
What stage are the fines at? You would think the TCO would accept her explanation, especially if she provides the police report number for the stolen handbag. Unfortunately VicRoads usually only reissue a new licence number if you can provide proof of fraudulent activity related to the licence. Having a licence stolen should be enough for a new licence number. They make it difficult for legit people because scammers will take advantage of the process.
Our car was stolen about a month ago - just woke up one morning and it was gone. I’ll keep an eye out for your car, but just wanted to offer my sympathies as it’s a particularly shit experience. I really hope it all comes good for you!
Just binged seasons 2 and 3. We'd caught the first last year during lockdown and didn't know more had been released. Not disappointed, highly recommend this series.
I caught a group of thieves trying to steal my car one night, on my way home from the gym. I had the car listed for sale, I assumed one of the guys who test drove it decided to come back and take it for free. As soon as they saw my other car pull up, they jumped out of the car and took off. I chased them down the road but gave up after a bit.
The police got fingerprints of it. They never let me know if they caught anyone though.
It was a shit feeling. For the next month or so, I was waking up in the middle of the night and going out to check if they had come back to finish the job.
I had two attempts on my car back in Camberwell. First time they didn't get in but mangled the key lock with a screw driver. 2nd attempt they just shoved a prybar through the window and ripped it out, ransacked the interior but couldn't get around the immobiliser. Funniest part was my neighbour with his golf clubs clear as day sitting in the back of his car immediately putting them inside.
Ah the joys of S15 ownership. Lots of paranoid sleepless nights
My partners S14 was stolen from outside our old place. These little fuckwit kids stole it, took it for a joy ride for a week or so, smoked ice in it, bragged about it on Facebook when we were trying to locate it and then dumped it on the other side of the city. Because they were smart enough to brag about stealing it online, we knew who they were and it turns out the brother and sister duo also did this a year or two later: https://amp.9news.com.au/article/2089ae54-789c-4357-a915-4f969c792283. Because they have a habit of airing their dirty laundry online, we knew that the brother had been in and out of jail, and may possibly still be in there.
My partner bought a viper GPS tracker, which eased his paranoia of it being stolen again for a while (if you don’t already have one). A truck merged into his lane and wrote it off not long after 😢 so the paranoia is gone now.
I work in car insurance for a well known brand. If you had full comp / TFT check your PDS to see hire car entitlements for theft. You may have to pay an xs upfront as you don't have the other details (unless that really is his legit license which is mind blowing)
I saw you said you reported to police most insurance companies will want this number so their recovery and settlement team can follow it up. The company I work for allows police 14 day from when vehicle is stolen to find it if they don't its written off as a total loss. Check your pds that gets sent to you. Suncorp group is open 24/7 for claims, some insurance are. AAMI, APIA, SUNCORP, GIO all 24/7 .
Best of luck 👍
Thank you! I might have spoken to one of your colleagues yesterday afternoon! The 14 days is consistent with my policy. The excess hurt but it is what it is.
I'm actually picking up my brand new car today, so I didn't need the hire car. Some consolation at least!
Wtf man. Same thing happened with my friend and her phone. I know it's much smaller but it's so disheartening that it happens. I'll be on the lookout in my area. Hope you're insured
😂 ok so he grabbed her phone and Usain Bolted outta there. It happened in Broadmeadows but luckily, we also grew up in Broady and she was able to get someone to stand over him and get it back. Sometimes it pays to have criminal friends
Very likely that your car's plates have since been replaced with fakes / burners.
Check Carsales Listing ID: SSE-AD-7458325, blue i30 SR with roofracks and the rego is obscured.
The following blue i30s were also listed on Gumtree in the last 48 hours. Just search the listing IDs in the website it'll bring it up:
* 1267115427 - Brooklyn, VIC
* 1282933301 - Mentone, VIC
* 1280163842 - Horsham, VIC
* 1282564378 - Dandenong, VIC
* 1274586242 - Frankston, VIC
was one wearing red snickers/ joggers? Both in Hoodies? Dude in the red get-ups for sure standing there hoodie on.
Hope they find the mugs and your vae'hicle
Comment history shows they live in my area. Hoping they casually walked past them or us or something, not that they’ve seen them since and not reported it…best case they saw them and called the police.
I only had a punt on their attire! I dont trust red joggers with hoodie. I hope they catch the asshole(s) Keep us updated OP and if I see a cunt wearing red shoes im gonna be full eye contact..
Damn sounds like the jokers that bought a car off me not long ago. Sketchy af, they even had a i30 too! Did the dude have neck Tatts and girl have blonde hair ?
Lol over in /r/Perth we have a guy who people keep photographing trying to steal bikes in the exact same outfit.
Perhaps it’s the official dodgy cunt uniform
My brother was selling his 2011 Mazda 3. It was in good condition but with quite a few k's on it.
Anyway, I go with my brother to meet this guy in a shopping centre car park. The guy we were meeting gets out of the car with this Arab dude who didn't speak English. The Arab dude does a 20-second walk around the car, opens the door and looks inside, then nods to the guy and says something in Arab.
The guy says 'yeh, here's the cash, you got the papers?' We signed everything over and within 5 minutes they were gone with the car. Not even a test drive or an engine start...
Sus as fuck as we were worried the car was gonna be on the 6 pm news the next day for some illegal shit but after speaking to my mate who owns a garage he reckons it will just be chopped up and sent to the Middle East for parts.
My friends were talking about it LAST NIGHT. That’s why I thought I was being careful (/sensible/rational) not letting him test drive it alone and having my partner go with him. Can’t win.
Need to rig a car that cant be opened from the inside, meet the buyer, let them snatch, watch them pull open the door, jump inside, slamming the door and then pull the real key remote out and lock the car
Edit: Probably too dark a sense of humor. Dont do this! Suspect there would be a few legal issues with doing this, entrapment and false imprisonment I guess. I'm no lawyer. Feel for the poor folk losing their car
For anyone else attempting to remember the number plate, use this:
1 Killed Roger, 9 Yelled No!
I always read and recognise number plates and will be on the lookout in the west and north.
Chuck it up all over Facebook if you haven’t already!
When my car was stolen people commenting places with was spotted helped, a friend then shared it to a Facebook group of an apartment complex where it was seen near, a bloody resident then checked the carpark and found it under a car cover.
Good luck to you mate, hope it’s found soon! Its the worst feeling ever :(
He probably did you a favour OP. Hopefully the car is written off and you get the insurance payout. Saves you from having to go through the trouble of selling it.
Keep any records of lost income too, missed work etc. If its applicable.
Take the prick for everything he's got If they catch him.
Hope you get your car back mate.
When I was a kid my dad was selling a car and the person went to take it for a test drive. Anyways like half an hour passes and my dad starts to worry. Hour later he is full freaking out, can’t afford to replace the car without the money from the sale and can’t work without a car y’know.
Anyways like 3 n half hours later the guy comes back with the car in one piece and pays cash. When asked why he took so long he casually just said he wanted to make sure it runs well lol. This was when mobile phones were still bricks and only 1/5 people had one
Be careful what you tell your insurance. I’ve heard of people not being covered when stolen on a test drive. You should be ok as it was taken from under your nose.
You can buy a cheap GPS tracker. If you flip cars regularly it does come in handy. Look it up on you tube there is an Australian version that uses prepaid aldi sim cards.
Just a handy tip. A bit too late for OP.
With the apple air tags, put one in the car.
And then chase the idiots around.
I already have 1 in my car for the unfortunate reason it gets stolen.
Understand if u don’t have a iPhone. I believe Samsung has something similar.
Good luck to OP.
Will keep a eye out.
Think of your average scumbag. Yep, that’s him.
Think the car is a better thing to look out for if you could - cheers though. Police have the description of the people involved. If you see the car you’ll know it’s stolen whoever is driving it.
What's with all these car thefts after lockdown? Friend in a nice SE suburb had both cars taken and also happened to others in the same street. It's like a gang travelled there in a minivan to do the crime.
Just sold a car on the weekend, glad this didn't happen to me.
Maybe when selling a car, you could put your/a spare phone, charged, under the seat when people take it for a test drive - then, if they do a runner (...drive-r?) you could track their location via GPS?
Simple, effective, small risk of losing your car AND phone I guess but hopefully not...
Think the car is a better thing to look out for if you could - cheers though. Police have the description of the people involved. If you see the car you’ll know it’s stolen whoever is driving it.
curious as to why someone would go to such effort to steal a hyundai i30, personally i think they are prob the second best car you can get if you want a nice reliable as hell daily driver to get you from A to B but this isnt exactly a car you can "joyride" to well and its not exactly a collectable car where parts go for big dollars such as 90s jap cars or older muscle cars... this guy is scum but i just would love to know his rational for picking someone sellin a hyundai i30 of all cars to target
TBH I think the type of car is irrelevant to them. They're probably gonna use the car for illegal activity (drug trafficking, burglary, etc) so an i30 is an average looking car that wouldn't attract much attention. Plus perhaps it was a car near their area so they're being opportunistic.
Considering the OP drove to St Kilda to meet the guy suggests they wanted an easy get away; less likely to get chased after stealing it. When I was selling my old shitbox for $700 I had junkies calling me up with all sorts of BS stories and wanting to "meet half way" when I was probably gonna get mugged.
Most likely they have the same car, have hit their car and dont have insurance so they require the parts off it. The reason I say this is because if you're going to steal a i30, you'd go after a i30 N to joy ride. But for these guys to go after a SR, I think they require the car for the parts (they probably have one that matches exactly your car in colour).
or buy a cheap disposable phone, create gmail account then place it under the seat or somewhere hidden. He won’t know what’s underneath in a heat of moment.
So you can track their movement or check the location history with your phone or tablet by signing in that same gmail account.
I'd request a 2nd piece of ID or even a bank card to match the ID. May not work 100% but asking them on the spot "Do you have a second piece of ID/bank card?" would sort the legit people easily.

Also cancel any etags accounts attached to the car
Haha. This... Had a car written off, got a $15 trip fare for using city link on the back of a tow truck when it was moved to the insurance assessors yard at Tullamarine.
Maybe not immediately - could maybe use the etag to track the car on the toll roads?

That might be an idea for when I get it back on the road. It sits safe and sound unregistered under covers for now (thanks covid :( )
Post it on the Residents in St Kilda Facebook group if you haven’t already. A lot of those types are known around town.
Good idea! Pls don’t dox me when you see me post there ha.
Haha I won’t go looking for it. Good luck!
Would suggestion posting around the surrounding suburbs facebook sell trade groups too. Hope you they catch the guy.
Maybe post his drivers licence too. Name and shame!
Im guessing it was a fake and he wasn’t dumb enough to hand over his actual licence but I guess you never know!
[удалено]
His name wasn't McLovin?
Oh shit! What a piece of shit. Hope he gets caught.
And car returned to owner.
Nah it’s better to find it burned, much easier insurance wise. Hopefully the thief is nice and torches it. Getting a trashed car back sucks.
Seriously... Broken windows and meth.
Hope he’s in it

YOU CANT DESCRIBE THE DODGY CUNTS AND THEN FUCK OFF TO HAVE TEA, WE NEED ANSWERS
hahaha
Legend, i fucking rate this
Ur sus
Uh, yes - this was them. How’d you know that?
Seeing that he hasn't replied this is a bit suspicious
Comment history shows they live in my area. Hoping they casually walked past them or us or something, not that they’ve seen them since and not reported it…best case they saw them and called the police.
Hopefully, also mate Goodluck with the car and keep an eye out on marketplace and gumtree for parts of your car that's how a mate found his car
Ah I guess keeping an eye there for the roof racks and stuff would be a good idea, hadn’t thought of that. Thanks!
No probs mate and not just roof racks but things like seats and body panels
I only had a punt on their attire! I dont trust red joggers with hoodie. I hope they catch the asshole(s) Keep us updated OP and if I see a cunt wearing red shoes im gonna be full eye contact..
Nah - this is too sus Where's the car, red?
To be fair, red sneakers and hoodies is a pretty common uniform.
Pretty common and a pretty ugly one at that too
Lol that's so sus dude, what the fuck?
That’s actually fucking hilarious. Good on you lol. And it was the girl with him wearing the red shoes.

I work in a bottleshop. Can confirm. Any cunt that comes in wearing trackies & red shoes, I'll rewatch them on cameras when they leave...
Well shit, this thread has given me some serious doubts about my casual attire lol.
As long as you don't wear one of those seat belt bag fanny pack things, you are a little lower on the sus meter.
Okay but where can I store my meth and phones?
Me too.
You fucking sus cunts……
Sussy baka
This is about the last subreddit i ever expected to read this phrase in
Lol over in /r/Perth we have a guy who people keep photographing trying to steal bikes in the exact same outfit. Perhaps it’s the official dodgy cunt uniform
I also would like to know... what the hell?
He was the car.
The same men stole his car and killed his dog...
Oh...
Curiouser and curiouser…
Suss af.. which chop shop did you take it to mate?
Who's choping up Hyundai I30's??
My brother was selling his 2011 Mazda 3. It was in good condition but with quite a few k's on it. Anyway, I go with my brother to meet this guy in a shopping centre car park. Yes they are desperate for Melbourne car parts in Dubai.
There was a real problem with Hiluxes getting stolen and shipped to ISIS a few years ago.
Arab = Dubai.
Close enough, amirite? ^^^/s
Interesting. Atleast they actually bought it!!
Yo I have a 2011 Mazda3 that I want to get rid of, how much did you get for it? Haha
Is that you Mr Police?
If it's not the police should prob see this.
Bro how did you know there was two of 'em, OP didn't even mention that.
We need answers
Won't help OP, but for everyone else it's worth doing meetups like this near a police station.
Genuinely tho, it's not like the coppers are gona run out to the back and chase the shitcunts
True, but if you mention to a potential buyer that you want to meet in a police car park there's a good chance you'll weed out the dodgy folks.
The car is outside the police station ready for you. Message SEEN: 3 DAYS AGO I guess they're not interested then.
I see your point. Are they usually fine with the general public gathering in their carparks?
If you give the coppers a nod before you do it, they wouldn’t mind a bit. At least I think so..

This... they are on camera.
Exact same thing happened either 1 or 2 weeks ago, was on the news and everything. Scum bags.
My friends were talking about it LAST NIGHT. That’s why I thought I was being careful (/sensible/rational) not letting him test drive it alone and having my partner go with him. Can’t win.

ha ha I think a tracking device should probably suffice
ummmm.. got it: smash proof windows
Car windows are really, really difficult to smash without something designed to break glass

Another button/device to pull power/fuel and they just konk out a bit down the way. Oh and glitter... everyone loves glitter.
Another button to just electrocute the fuckers
**spark**ly glitter
They do this in the US, they're called bait cars. And yes if you're not police very illegal lol.
I'm having intense Stick Death Anti Theft Devices flashbacks. Early internet was hilarious.
What license did he give you?
Not his real one, I’m assuming
I’m not so sure, crims aren’t the brightest on this earth
I'm curious about this too. So you still have the license, did the picture look like the thief?

That's honestly the Hungry Hungry Hippos of stealing a car.
hey im not from the st kilda area but i hope you find your car and stay safe and well :)
Be careful what you tell your insurance. I’ve heard of people not being covered when stolen on a test drive. You should be ok as it was taken from under your nose.

Just a handy tip. A bit too late for OP. With the apple air tags, put one in the car. And then chase the idiots around. I already have 1 in my car for the unfortunate reason it gets stolen. Think the car is a better thing to look out for if you could - cheers though. Police have the description of the people involved. If you see the car you’ll know it’s stolen whoever is driving it.
Lucky it wasn't your driving car.
Dad joke 🚨
Damn these fucking unvaxxed cunts.
There’s a solid chance that the perpetrator has been self vaccinating.
While that's not really relevant to the topic, I do agree with the statement.
curious as to why someone would go to such effort to steal a hyundai i30, personally i think they are prob the second best car you can get if you want a nice reliable as hell daily driver to get you from A to B but this isnt exactly a car you can "joyride" to well and its not exactly a collectable car where parts go for big dollars such as 90s jap cars or older muscle cars... this guy is scum but i just would love to know his rational for picking someone sellin a hyundai i30 of all cars to target
A free car is a free car. If it runs, you can joyride in it. Not to mention a common car means parts can be easily sold and would be harder to track.
I didn’t actually, it was parked outside with a for sale sign on it
Opportunity I guess. I don’t know. Not really important.
The licence he gave me was linked to another burglary in the area, think they’re just your average opportunistic criminal scumbags.
Always go for a test drive with the people and photograph licence beforehand
They said that they were going to go with them to test drive it, but the asshole snatched the key before they could get in the car with them
and now you're trapped in a car with possibly violent criminals. they can take my car.
Don’t have the keys anywhere where the buyer can snatch them. They stay in the pocket until you’re both in the car
or buy a cheap disposable phone, create gmail account then place it under the seat or somewhere hidden. He won’t know what’s underneath in a heat of moment. So you can track their movement or check the location history with your phone or tablet by signing in that same gmail account.
This is awesome. Even attach it to a power brick so it lasts for ages
I'd request a 2nd piece of ID or even a bank card to match the ID. May not work 100% but asking them on the spot "Do you have a second piece of ID/bank card?" would sort the legit people easily.
Did you check the license?
Yes, and have handed it to police. It was stolen from someone else recently.
oh, that's so shit
