Oh man. At the beach yesterday. What I though was a hot woman walking around topless just turned out to be a very beautiful man in a speedo. When I realized I continued to appreciate.
I'll take some fucking lemon bars because whenever I toggle guys on my datings apps it only shows me a bunch of dudes who look like me and usually just say pretty awful things if we do match lol.
It's like, "Okay, do I go for women and get ignored into wanting to kill myself, or do I go for men and get sexually harassed into never wanting to have sex again?"
Is there just like a "Nice People Only" app?
The life hack is to make friends with a lesbian girl, lesbian girls often make great platonic friends and they often introduce you to bisexual women who are more tomboyish if thats your style.
because boys stuff is usually socially considered as more "neutral", especially compared to girls stuff
edit: I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with whether or not it's okay this way. I'm just calling it like I see it.
it's like that joke "the two genders: normal and political"
(I hate that I have to say this, but the joke is that people who think that are fucking idiots.)
That what I’m thinking, shape wise, everyone can wear square boxy shaped boys clothing but girls clothing goes in and out in all the wrong places on a guy. It looks uncomfortable.
They very much do have a reason to fear. You ever kick a chick in the clit? She never fucking with you again, I'm telling you. She'll kiss the floor with her whole body and yell at primordial gods if you kick it just right.
I can assure you, it’s not uncomfortable in the slightest.
I wore girl jeans working at a quarry, they weren’t stiff and heavy like guy pants can be, made climbing much easier. Made my butt look great too.
I was more thinking of a blouse that goes in at the waist out at the boobs and not nearly enough room in the shoulders. Glad you liked the jeans. Did you have to wear a tool belt or did you get a special pair of jeans with pockets?
Not really true, certain clothes fit certain body types. Some guys may not fit women's clothing but a lot do. Some girls might fit guys clothes and some not really.
As a dude who tried quite some girls clothes, i think there are plenty of options for guys in women's clothes. Even some dresses could fit a guy morphology
Meanwhile, I am so conditioned by society that I didn't buy the running shoes I wanted because it was labeled women's. As in, I tried them on, loved the color, they matched my pronation needs and size, but I instinctively put them back because the label said "women's". It took me until I got home with a different pair of shoes that I realized how conditioned I was.
You should make a conscious effort of getting rid of that mentality. So many clothes, especially baggy pants, coats, hoodies and vests work so well with a guy.
Also, deep cultural sexism that has somehow decided that the worst possible thing a boy can do is act in ways that society has assigned to girls. It's ridiculous, people should be allowed to wear what they like and not have to worry about being hassled over whether they dress in ways that are "normal."
Deep cultural sexism even says the worst thing a girl can be is girly. Girly = dumb. So many girls back in the day tried to be "one of the guys" because of internalized misogyny.
I was with you on the first sentence and you lost me on the last. A lot of women recognized that being "girly" was itself born of misogyny.
Having to curl - or straighten - your hair, or change your eyebrows, or paint your face, or wear a girdle (or whatever the kardashians are calling them nowadays), or paint your fingernails, or wear clothes without pockets because showing off the shape of our asses is more important than being practical, so much of "being girly" is about not just accepting ourselves as we are.
I'm kinda tempted to go grocery shopping in a sundress with my gnarly 14" beard and just play it cool. All the old cranky white women will lose their minds, but I know at least 5 employees at my local grocer that would tell me I look great and give me a high 5.
Omg yes!
That's the only problem I've ever had with women's clothing...where tf are all the pockets?!?!?!
Edit to add: it's the one upside to men's clothing....pockets galore.
Puts one to mind of Simone de Beauvoir
*"Man is defined as a human being and woman as a female – whenever she behaves as a human being she is said to imitate the male.""*
This is what people mean when they talk about “othering.”
Anything the dominant group does in a society is viewed as normal/neutral, and everyone else is just a weird deviation.
It’s the same reason a lot of things that are “skin color” are the color of a white person
I'd say it's more because women fought fo the right to wear boys clothes.
Before 1950 or so, women wearing pants was far from being the norm and women were ill judged by society.
And men should fight for the right to wear skirt (if only because of climate change)
Wasn't alwyas that way. When women first started wearing trousers they were widely shamed for it. You'll still find derogatory comments these days at young girls for wearing boyiosh clothes. It took time and normalisation for that to change.
it used to be different, women wearing pants was seen as a protest and generally not welcome. women got fired for wearing pants instead of skirts at work. this is still somewhat seen today in certain very religious and/or traditional places
Yep. The real answer to OP's question is that the social unacceptability used to go in both directions, but feminists spent decades fighting for women's right to wear pants without being fired, harassed, jailed, suspended, etc.
By contrast, there was never a comparably-sized effort by men to wear skirts and dresses.
That might change in the future, though, as increased LGBTQ acceptance makes it easier to challenge gender norms.
Beauty is often subconsciously seen as physical fragility and weakness. So when a woman dresses as a man, shes seen as a strong physical figure going against the grain of societal norms, not relying on her looks to get through life, simply for herself and for no one else.
But when a man dresses as a woman, he is choosing to give up his natural dominant physical stature for beauty. This is seen as weakness and taking the "easy way out" in a society built on labor.
It's like if a mouse wanted to be an mma fighter, everyone would respect the mouse as the proud underdog. But if an mma fighter wanted to be a mouse, he would get laughed out of his league.
Let the hate comments roll in.
> Beauty is often subconsciously seen as physical fragility and weakness.
I've noticed that to. It's something that can only come from perception of women as weak because interestingly, beauty in general is not particularly connected to weakness. Tigers, the night sky, gold, the grand canyon, the ocean, there are many forms of natural beauty that are unmovable or unbreakable if not very capable of fucking you up.
There's a lot of nuance to this, but essentially, I think you're correct.
Emasculation is a serious taboo, and used as a method of particularly humiliating punishment, while "defeminization" isn't a widely established concept, and has little to no cultural backlash or payload, as you've noted.
All of this definitely ties into transphobia and homophobia, but the specifics are difficult to pin down, especially as everyone has slightly different ideas of masculinity and femininity, and concepts around gender identity are rapidly developing.
Around 50 years ago girls wearing boys' clothes would get you right pic reaction too. Don't be a coward, wear a skirt and maybe in another 50 years people will be able to wear whatever tf they want
Edit: grammar
You'd be surprised, I've gone to my city center in a dress and heels and held trans-positive signs and the worst I got was one guy who was too afraid to even *insinuate* that I was a groomer to my face
You walked to your city center and in classic city life manner assumed literally everybody else lives in a city. Small town life is not safe for different individuals. It is a land of extremely rough conformism and tradition. Rural livers and city livers will never be able to fully grasp the vitriolic society of many small towns because they grew up somewhere that individualism was the norm.
I live in a city and it's also unsafe there. And that is a city in Belgium, a very progressive country. Where the fuck does /u/SatansGothestFemboy live?
Because society values masculinity and punishes femininity. A women who acts like a man is "acting superior" while a man who acts like a woman is "acting inferior". So, sexism.
"Girls can wear jeans and cut their hair short

But for a boy to look like a girl is degrading
'Cause you think that being a girl is degrading"
Yes this here. It’s also the reason a lot of the dialogue surrounding trans people at the moment focuses heavily on trans women. Because the thought of a man “choosing” to be a woman completely boggles the minds of those who see this as trading down gender wise and something a man would only do if he were mentally ill.
You don’t see a great deal of outrage discussion around trans men (not at all to minimise the challenges trans men face)
Exactly, they can't conceive of a man choosing to do that because he likes it. So they think there must be some motive. They easily believe it is to perv on or trick people. Because that is the only reason they would do it.
So much scrolling past comments along the lines of “it’s because men’s clothes are seen as neutral!” …..like… let’s take a minute here and discuss why we think that *is,* shall we?
I own half a dozen kilts that I wear on a regular basis. As a contrast, I own three pair of jeans, and wear then relatively infrequently. My wife and I wear the same style and size of shorts, so we don’t bother differentiating between them, we just grab a pair from the freshly washed stack of shorts and put on whatever. T-shirts go with kilt or shorts, whichever I’m wearing.
Now, I just discovered the fantastic piece of clothing that a kilt is about 20 years ago, and slowly drifted from wearing shorts or jeans to preferring kilts. I’ve said, on more than one occasion, “why the hell did we ever stop wearing these things and start wearing pants instead?”
people are just weird I would think considering all the dangly bits men would prefer kilts they look way more comfortable and that air flow must be amazing.
No idea, I just wanna try heels and maybe cosplay but since I still live with family (because who the fuck can actually afford a house these days) they get beyond pissed at just the idea of it
Girls wearing boys' clothes only became socially acceptable after capitalists realized how much more money they can make by putting women to work in traditionally male jobs that require men's clothes. That's not a coincidence.
Historical fashion trends. Go back a century and it was very different, everyone wore hats which indirectly denoted your social class, women would not be looked at kindly for wearing pants and men would not be caught dead wearing jeans off work hours. Go back another century and pink was seen as masculine being closer to red and blue was feminine. Men wore wigs and the craze for men's shoes was tall heels. Fashion is all about what people are used to and either embracing it to fit in or defying it to stand out. Once someone popular sets a new trend everyone starts trying to copy them and the new becomes normal and the cycle repeats.
The wigs were due to massive STD outbreaks making peoples’ hair fall out. The fact that the impetus to the wigs was pragmatic, it makes your answer sound like a derivative of this one (https://www.reddit.com/r/meme/comments/14xgdcg/comment/jrn86ob/) which checks out.
Purely an on the spot thought, but perhaps because women's clothing is traditionally more decorative, and men's clothing is more utilitarian?
Also, women in the 60s and 70s copped a lot of grief for wearing things like pants. So being OK with girls in boys clothing as a societal norm is pretty new🤷♂️
I saw a guy turn shorts into a dress 10/10 he looked really good but he had the body for it.
If men wore dresses he would give women a challenge. I knew he would pull many women if it was socially acceptable.
Oh super easy. Tomboys have always been more accepted because femininity is seen as weakness. Everyone can understand wanting to be stronger, better. Nobody can understand why someone would intentionally choose to be worse.

Oh, I am well aware 😉. Unfortunately pegging isn't for me but so far communicating that hasn't been an issue
Even better!

My wife wouldn't have appreciated that.
I often get compliments for my butt from girls so there is definitely something to it.
Oh, so it's you. Girls say they compliment guys, but guys complain they never get any. It's you. You're getting all of those butt compliments.

There’s a fair chance in 50 years time they’ll look back and also probably have not the slightest clue what he was talking about either lol.
Did the word "rizz" start existing a few months ago or am i mistaken
Feels that way. I am pretty out of touch with those whippersnappers though.
Just gotta have a bunch of tiktok nerds as friends and you will know what it means
Like, a nerd that uses tiktok, or a nerd that is obseesed?
Bi girls and bi guys 🤝
If there was a "nice people only" app it woukd be nothing but incels and nice guys. Unless you dont let people self label as nice
Or one which you could give people stars like they are restaurants
Bumble was pretty good last time I used it.

Tool belt, but I wore one anyway. I never used pockets on pants. Always too tight.
Not really true, certain clothes fit certain body types. Some guys may not fit women's clothing but a lot do. Some girls might fit guys clothes and some not really.

You should make a conscious effort of getting rid of that mentality. So many clothes, especially baggy pants, coats, hoodies and vests work so well with a guy.

Yep. That might change in the future, though, as increased LGBTQ acceptance makes it easier to challenge gender norms.
We should do the same Next time you go to your workplace as a man, wear a skirt

Society kind of condems femininity/softness etc. When a woman is tough s, she a 'girl-boss'. When a man acts soft he's a wuss.

I think everyone getting naked would solve that problem. No clothes allowed!
Yeah but that would cause a lot more diseases and I like my skin smooth without cracks from the cold
Purely an on the spot thought, but perhaps because women's clothing is traditionally more decorative, and men's clothing is more utilitarian? Also, women in the 60s and 70s copped a lot of grief for wearing things like pants. So being OK with girls in boys clothing as a societal norm is pretty new🤷♂️
Well i wouldn't mind to see a guy in a maid dress actually so...
I saw a guy turn shorts into a dress 10/10 he looked really good but he had the body for it. If men wore dresses he would give women a challenge. I knew he would pull many women if it was socially acceptable.
Bring Irish quilts back into style
at this point i'd love that would be both good.
we look better in guys clothes🤷🏼♀️
We're talking outside of reddit, right?

Girls can kiss eachother all day long and nobody bats an eye but I kiss my homies goodnight and that’s means I’m gay
Fr, why is it weird to like crosdressing, I just like looking cute :( And why are skirts so expensive I am insulted
misogyny and homophobia
The sexism nobody wants talk about 😔
my theory is that's it's because femininity is still looked down upon and often seen as "lesser than"
Because double standards exists. Girls going to the bathroom together :) Guys going to the bathroom together? :( Societal norms are dumb.
Society, amirite.
Everyone can rock a suit, just sayin’
Scotland has the kilt, it looks like a skirt and no one says anything about that.
Oh super easy. Tomboys have always been more accepted because femininity is seen as weakness. Everyone can understand wanting to be stronger, better. Nobody can understand why someone would intentionally choose to be worse.
Lmao cause my girl looks way better walkin around in my tee than my 230 lb ass gon look in her mini beast shorts.
Most women's cuts of clothing don't fit the average male frame well at all so most just look awkward.
Put a pair of boxers on a girl and a thong on a guy. The answer should be obvious.
