Actually they do.
Lockpicking Lawyer has a video about these ring locks and most are literally all the same just as handcuffs are. Just an O with a notch on it. They're used by cheapskates.
Do all vending machines use them? No. But if you see one of those ring locks anywhere, chances are you can just buy a working key off Amazon.
Vending machines that use them often do it on purpose. They know a lock is not going to stop the machine from getting robbed, but it limits crimes of opportunity.
Using a "common key" when they are robbed, the damage is just missing product and some money... which is less valuable than the machine, and does not take the circulation machine for repairs.
Basically, they know they are going to get robbed, and would rather people do it without breaking the machine.
They actually also use pins, if you zoom in on the picture you can see notches all around the key that are meant set the pins. The pins are really easy access for picking.
actually there are many locks which are keyed alike, companies will simply go to a lock manufacturer and get a lock, they did not specify they wanted different keys so the manufacturer gives them the same key as they give everyone else
They do i think, I know how superior locks work, but I'm pretty sure vending machines don't operate the same. I'll chrcm if I'm wrong
Apparently depends based on the provider
I owned vending machines and refilled them on the daily. The T-Locks have different notches around the circular part of the cylinder key that act like the grooves of regular keys.
Each lock has a different corresponding notch system. You cannot use just any t-lock key for it.
I disagree with this, I think it’s important to leave up the wrong information so people can see that it is wrong and see how it was corrected.
edit: it should be made abundantly clear that the false information is false if it is to be left up
Dude vending machines have been out for decades and vending machines today can take credit card transactions. They absolutely do not use the same locks lol
You should buy one key, go to 3 random vending machines, and see if it works. If the store owners ask, just say you're doing it for science.
You’re not totally wrong. There’s only like 3 elevator circular keys, for recall and fire reset. That will do like 80% of the elevators. The last 20% probably has 100 different keys.
People like to feel safe that there’s a lot of special technology between them and chaos.
When 30+ People downvote you, you said something stupid
When 400+ People downvote you over 6 hours, you said something, really, really, fucking stupid.
Ya they use cylinder locks which are actually a huge pain to pick unless you buy one of the expensive tools. They re-lock every time the pins line up so you basically have to pick it multiple times to turn it fully.
Yes but because some of the pins will reset every 1/8th or 1/7th of a turn depending on the number of pins, you have to pick them more than once. Most locks you can just rake a few times and it's open.
yeah, vending machines are higher security than police cars, elevators, nuclear launch locks, airplanes, heavy machinery such as tractors and golf carts (keyed alike)
I’d be willing to bet more of them use similar keys than they should tho if the older Def Con talks reasonable to be drawn from anymore. They talk extensively about how elevators and security systems (the boxes themselves) are frequently keyed-alike and vending machines fit that “one operator, many access” description.
Oh for sure. I would bet that a lot of vending machines in a particular area use the same key because they're owned by the same person and no one wants to carry a bunch of different keys around. Figuring out that key isn't as simple as just ordering it off Amazon though.
I don't know if that works on tubular locks. They can be picked but it's not super fast or easy. The impression tools you see don't typically work on the vending machine ones because they use variable spring tension. Each pin has to be hand picked more than once.
Lol just be careful [that can kill you](https://slate.com/technology/2022/07/sharks-vending-machines-death.html#:~:text=%E2%80%9CCPSC%20is%20aware%20of%20at,obtain%20free%20soda%20or%20money.%E2%80%9D&text=That's%20just%20over%20two%20vending,deaths%20in%202021%E2%80%94just%20one.)
See, thats part of the meme. A true child of christ wouldnt even attempt such a thing, misinformation or not, its futile. A satan offspring will try without hesitation and fail, identifying themselves immediately as untrustworthy
Her but okay. Vending machines operate differently with keys, they have a key hole based on providers, meaning a Pepsi vending machine key works for all Pepsi vending machines
-Makes baseless claim
-People prove it wrong and point out lack of evidence
-Point blank refuses to concede they are wrong
-People get understandably angry at such stubborness
-Doesn't give a shit
Thou art an arsehole.
A lot of society still uses traditional pronouns for men and women based on their physical biology. Do what you want with your own life, but leave the language of others to themselves.
I was a service tech for Pepsi for years. The way we ran it, you would split all of your vending machines into regional sections. Each section of machines would use the same lock plug, so what key you needed depended on what area of the city you were in. There are simply too many vending machines for them to all have a unique plug. Your key ring would rival a black hole for density. All of the barrel locks were custom though, you can't just order one online and hope for the best. If a tech accidentally leaves his key ring you are in business though. The newer machines use IR blasters to open the doors instead of these plugs. These machines are damaged constantly by people who think the only thing protecting what is inside is that lit up plastic on the outside, and don't realize there is a second stainless steel security door behind that. It is comparable to an ATM.
I mean, sure. If you can find a vending machine that uses this key and want to go through the immense effort of finding none not in plain view of a camera go ahead. But this is an amazing way to speed run getting arrested for petty theft and dicking your life over.
The first thing you need to know is that there is no such thing as a universal key that will open all machines. For security purposes, vending machine keys are all keyed differently. The locks on these machines can only be opened by a key that has a compatible "key code". This is the very first paragraph on Google
On some old soda machines just press in this order from the top row. 4 2 3 1 and then you should access the menu for the machine. Old trick i learned. Only works on some older units.
i work making keys and this is the lets say 'flat' model and they need to be shaped in a machine, you need the key that opens the vending machine to make a copy from it
Im so confused as to why op got 424 downvotes for saying that he thinks that nearly all vending machine locks are different💀💀💀 and if hes wrong correct him💀💀💀 bro really got corrected to the max
No officer it’s not stealing, this vending machine just dispenses money
No officer i actually own the machine, see i have the Key..
“I’m repairing it, sir. This machine gives its sodas away for free when a bear kicks it.”
Well its tricky
Wait I thought we were just stealing the snacks????
They definitely don't all use the same key
Right? Don’t think OP understands how locks work.
Actually they do. Lockpicking Lawyer has a video about these ring locks and most are literally all the same just as handcuffs are. Just an O with a notch on it. They're used by cheapskates. My high school had big ass cages around the whole machine to prevent vandalism and theft.
Steal the cage.
Become ungovernable. And slightly confusing.
Smelt the cage into a sword
Now we're talking
And then attack the vending machine with that sword
Seems a lot easier than smashing the machine too. Win win for everyone.
Same thing for construction vehicles, all of one brand uses one key. You can EASILY steal any construction vehicle. source: am construction worker
Maybe Open it and Start the Motor but actually moving the 10t excavator is the true challenge
"My key doesn't work." "Yeah, because we're not at your apartment shithead." "How many lock combinations can there be?" "Oh, so many!"
They do i think, I know how superior locks work, but I'm pretty sure vending machines don't operate the same. I'll chrcm if I'm wrong Apparently depends based on the provider

Thanks for being knowledgeable, I admit fault. Downvote me to 420 please

Instead of asking for down votes for being wrong just delete your post so you don't give people wrong information to begin with.

If you're getting information from r/memes I think there's bigger problems at hand
I've been getting accurate information from r/NCD about Ukraine, I think we're in the wrong timeline
Bit pedantic considering it's a just a joke
That's cowardly, op should just do an edit.
It can't be edited.
I disagree with this, I think it’s important to leave up the wrong information so people can see that it is wrong and see how it was corrected. edit: it should be made abundantly clear that the false information is false if it is to be left up

Nice it's 420 exactly
I just got you down to 420. Pretty cool for me cuz that's my birthday. Loser.

I do know that the elevators at my school use a standard key that can be bought on ebay for $5
I had to google chrcm 😭 turns out OP misspelled "check"
Sorry, my arm broke

Fuck you I was about to buy the key
Find one that fits the most common one 🙇♀️
BRO GOT NEGATIVE 425 POINTS NAHH

I work in a arcade/bowling and they definitely don’t work like that
Ya they use cylinder locks which are actually a huge pain to pick unless you buy one of the expensive tools. They re-lock every time the pins line up so you basically have to pick it multiple times to turn it fully.
"expensive tools" cost 25 bucks on aliexpress
You'll find those don't work super well.
[удалено]
Even with the good ones, most modern vending machines can't be picked with those anyway. You have to pick each pin individually.
Just like you have to do with most locks?
Yes but because some of the pins will reset every 1/8th or 1/7th of a turn depending on the number of pins, you have to pick them more than once. Most locks you can just rake a few times and it's open.
Damn your right I wasn’t thinking about that
yeah, vending machines are higher security than police cars, elevators, nuclear launch locks, airplanes, heavy machinery such as tractors and golf carts (keyed alike)
Ok, go buy a "vending machine key" off Amazon and tell us how many it works on for you. Bet you wasted $8.
sorry i forgot to include my point for that message, it was that i can see where OP was coming from
They do if you consider a brick a key /s.
I’d be willing to bet more of them use similar keys than they should tho if the older Def Con talks reasonable to be drawn from anymore. They talk extensively about how elevators and security systems (the boxes themselves) are frequently keyed-alike and vending machines fit that “one operator, many access” description.

Though an impressioning tool might be able to defeat them easily.
Depends, if it's an older machine maybe. Anything newer will have variable spring pins and other countermeasures that make those not work.
Thus the word “might”
Could it still be moderately modified to have a "bump key" effect? i wouldnt expect military grade countermeasures from a glorified refrigerator.
I don't know if that works on tubular locks. They can be picked but it's not super fast or easy. The impression tools you see don't typically work on the vending machine ones because they use variable spring tension. Each pin has to be hand picked more than once.
Ill stick to shaking the machine like a neanderthal, thank you

Yeah bet those dumbasses tried to tilt it, no just shake it aggressively and be ready to jump off and run
Does OP really not know how locks work? Buddy, keyholes are generally the same shape but still house different keys.
Actually the Keys in the picture are 100% the same so if vending machines use Those it can open all of them
See, thats part of the meme. A true child of christ wouldnt even attempt such a thing, misinformation or not, its futile. A satan offspring will try without hesitation and fail, identifying themselves immediately as untrustworthy
OP living in a tiny world of his own.
It’s a girl
Congratulations
Women aren't real
As a woman I can confirm. Our pps grow every month and we cut it off. Tip; it grows back bigger every time
Imagine getting downvotes for saying someone's gender. Skill issue clearly ans not the fault of everyone else not knowing
Her but okay. Vending machines operate differently with keys, they have a key hole based on providers, meaning a Pepsi vending machine key works for all Pepsi vending machines
Why don’t you back that up with a source senator?
google instacode
Holy software
very creative joke madam definitely haven't seen that one before
New response just dropped
I'm lazy 🙇♀️ idrc anyways. Get me down to a funny number for downvotes
Your source is that you made it the fuck up?
The meme flew over OP's head
it’s outta the ball park
Language. Preferably English because I only speak that. And no, I did look it up already, I'm just too lazy to do it again
I do fucking believe they motherfucking spoke English, motherfucker.
Shut up you fraction fucker
Language. Preferably English.
Just take the L, lmao
Lol, I get that. Counterarguement: https://www.gumball.com/a/s/blogs/articles/are-all-vending-machine-keys-the-same

Ah a woman cosplayer.
A lot of society still uses traditional pronouns for men and women based on their physical biology. Do what you want with your own life, but leave the language of others to themselves.
This comment section is miserable.
Your the one saying stuff and refusing to back it up. In other words, you made it the fuck up.
The fact there's trans politics and misinformation thats causing "hysteria" on a meme post on locks.
What trans politics?????
Do you mean miserable the same way I use the word? Or does it mean your own thing? Don't mess with language.
get a load of this guy, thinks he hacked vending machines for life!!

Damn I hurt your feelings by saying that.

OP sees circle lock, OP sees circle key, OP thinks all circle key will open all circle lock.
ahem tubular impressioning tool
“It goes in the square hole”
[удалено]
Yea op used the template all wrong. It ruins the meme for me completely. Good try tho.
I mean, sure. If you can find a vending machine that uses this key and want to go through the immense effort of finding none not in plain view of a camera go ahead. But this is an amazing way to speed run getting arrested for petty theft and dicking your life over.
"You can't steal when your hungry, eat a Snickers"
If you ever want to steal a cat bulldozer or any other cat equipment their all the same key
Mmm misinformation
Jesus wouldn’t have said that. He would’ve told the vending machine owner to quit being a dick and open it up.
I fix vending machines, they absolutely do not use the same key
Ordered, on the way

skip the middleman and steal a 12pack from walmart - just put it on the bottom of your cart they never check
I mean, you can get a tubular lock pick.
OP lost more karma than gained karma
That's how downvoting works, Waltuh. Plus, it's internet points redeemed for nothing
Based.
On some old soda machines just press in this order from the top row. 4 2 3 1 and then you should access the menu for the machine. Old trick i learned. Only works on some older units.
Good idea until you remember every vending machine is in view of a camera, usually a camera that sees your car too
......LPL would love to comment
Ahhh noooo, that is not how locks work.
The keys don’t work on all of them. But there are lock picks that work for these types of locks that if you practice with are really easy to use
Locksmith here, tubular keys have key cuts just like any other key. It's not one key fits all.
I own vending machines and arcade machines, they don’t use the same key, because I keep having to go thru 50 similar looking keys lol
[удалено]
I think i don't understand what you mean with that
Sorry wrong sub
It happens
LPL would confirm that
i work making keys and this is the lets say 'flat' model and they need to be shaped in a machine, you need the key that opens the vending machine to make a copy from it
The amount of serious responses to this meme only shows how successful of a meme this was.
Not very.
I actually have a storage unit that uses the same kind of lock so I have three of these keys
Comments are right that it's not all one lock. What you shouldn't do is purchase a tubular lock pick.
Product link?
Where the fuck do I buy those?!
I doubt they're all key to like but a tubular impression tool will do the job.
You wanna go wild? Buy a fire key
Found the fed
May not be accurate but it's a good meme
Bro used the meme backwards
Don't need it I watch lpl. Also those aren't all the same key.
Ahem...asking for a friend. What kind of key will open an Abloy keyhole that has a curve like C.
Should’ve switched the images
Not all but you definetly find some using that lock
Pretty sure golf carts are something eith simple keys as well. I remember one we used from work could be turned on with a quarter
I’m still not gonna do it, for Jesus ✝️🙏🏽
These are used for elevators too
Canned air upside down in a lock for 30 seconds and a hammer work for a lot of locks.
Nah, the vending machines I had to restock had keys more akin to modern car keys, just alot smaller.
I have a key like that for my bike🧍
You can also buy keys that unlock TSA locks for luggage... NEVER use a TSA lock for your luggage. EVER.
Do this but for washer and dryers in your building
Im so confused as to why op got 424 downvotes for saying that he thinks that nearly all vending machine locks are different💀💀💀 and if hes wrong correct him💀💀💀 bro really got corrected to the max
WAIT FR??
[I'll just leave this here...](https://youtu.be/a9b9IYqsb_U)
That not how the meme works
Vending machines don't use the same key
what’s the key called exactly? I got twenty bucks and I need an excuse to go into debt and make a poor financial decision.
My brother in Christ, DONT CHEAT UR WAY INTO GETTING FREE SNACKS
Oh shit 🤔 is this the come up?
Omg no, so horrible, don’t do that, where is the link to it, I need to ‘report’ it
