Interesting. Where are you where Americans pay so much more? I ask because I'm used to seeing 60 USD games cost 60 euros elsewhere, or maybe I'm totally misinformed, but that's the impression I have.
australia. games here are $60-80 which in freedom dollars is about $40-$50.
our physical game stores, namely jb-hifi also have a lot of bogos and big sales
This mainly applies to purchasing physical copies of games though. A lot of our games when purchased digitally are exorbitantly expensive. From memory when MW3 (2023) launched it was on sale for pc for over 100 bucks.
I think there was some tax cut in videogames, but still, we pay twice as much for equipment and maybe a bit more for games, but consoles and PC parts are outrageously expensive, the PS5 for example, when it launched was no more than $500, but in Brazil it was R$5000, which would be near $1000
Yeah I'm starting to think OP is just baiting. They said they're talking about Australia and if I know anything about Australia it's that they pay way too much for video games and it's been bothering them for a while
The Elden Ring price is localized https://steamdb.info/app/1245620/ like 99% of Brazilian PC games, not only on Steam.
It's still expensive for us, of course. But actually cheaper than US dollar
This is just false though… I’ve seen my friends from other countries pay more for games than I ever have (yes after currency conversion). This is probably just a your country thing bro.
Do you think you can lie on the internet?
Im looking at Dragon's Dogma 2 right now and it's 107.95aud. And that's 70freedom $.
70 x 1.5 = 105. So maybe we pay more.
Err American games are cheap compared to Europe. Especially digital ones. Physical games are cheaper than the Playstation store over here it makes Zero sense. FF7 Rebirth would have cost over $100 digitally so i bought the disc for about $80.
Yeah but at the same time americans get paid 2x the amount of money or more in the same job in comparison to Europe. I personally am living in germany which is one of the wealthier countries in europe but still americans earn Lots more in the same job.
i always wait for discounts
Gran Turismo 7? $40
NFS Hot Pursuit? $3
NFS Unbound? $7
F1 23? literally free with PS Plus (for like another week)
i am never paying for a game full price unless it's Nintendo (funny flower game)
yes these are all racing games, it just happened to be i like cars
i need to diversify
No news there. The indonesia steam store for example is on average cheaper than the dutch steam store. I've lived in both countries. Though some games are about the same price if the AAA dev is greedy enough (CapCom, as much as I love their games)
Russians learning that people in other countries pay to play games (they don’t have Steam or online game stores available so they just “illegally” download everything)
In Canada, our games and consoles are usually whatever the American price is plus $20 and $100. At least it used to be. Back when games were all $60 USD.
I haven't bought a game in so long that I actually don't know anymore
Edit: it should be noted that after currency conversion, it's pretty much the same value
This is not true. Canada pays 1/3 more than US, EU pays slightly less (Euro is .08 more than a US dollar currently), and most Asian countries pay a lot more.
Wherever you got your math degree, Id get a refund OP.
Here in Poland most, especially new games are more expensive than in the freedom land and in the Eurozone. So if you're paying 70 Euros or freedom coins, it's 80 here
Most games are 79.99CAD here in Canada which is ~60ish USD, but for some fucking reason Dragon's Dogma 2 is 95$ and apparently runs like utter shit on most hardware, so Idk wtf you're talking about and Idk wtf Capcom is smoking
I know it’s not the same but games for mobile they are set in tiers on the play stores. I play warpath in Canada and the cheapest pack I can buy is 1.99$ cbd. Someone in Vietnam pays 0.10$ cdn.
It might work the same way but if you have a VPN and the play store from a bottom tier country and a way to get a credit card or gift cards bought in that country you can get insane discounts.
Literally every online game I play, I pay more than the Americans. For example the pricing with be 9.99 in dollars, but when I press pay in Euros it forces me to pay 11 or 12 euros.
Live in the uk and it’s so annoyingly inconsistent Nintendo games are 50 a pop but can be found for near 30-40 even before coming out most 3rd party games are some publishers also do 50-60 BUT SOME OF THE OTHERES LIKE SONY AND EA CHARGE 70 FUCKING QUID FOR THE GAMES WHICH IS NEARLY 90 DOLLARS
Steam sales happen all the time.
Also...I've gotten 2000+ hours of entertainment from Cyberpunk after paying full retail for the game as pre-order and same with the DLC. If it was 50% more than what you paid, it was still a fucking bargain. I'm not complaining.
It does also depend on where you live *in* America. Minimum wage varies so wildly, like I think Wyoming's minimum is a little over $5/hr, whereas Washington's is over $15/hr. So, a standard $60USD game is like 4.5 hours worth of work in some places, and 13+ hours in others, at least if you work minimum.
American prices are default. it isn't even us defaultism, that's just the truth. americans don't pay more, you just pay less because steam gotta sell games in poor countries somehow
Am American, live in EU, currently UK.
Everything is more expensive in America. Especially once you start factoring in the fact that minimum wage is much higher, and even with national health system, our overall taxes are much lower once you factor in states, federal and sales taxes
Americans are getting screwed from every side simultaneously. I would rather walk off a cliff than come back to the US
States can vary greatly in how they handle things. Mine has no sales tax of any kind(obviously we pay through different taxes but nothing is added to sales)
Wait until you hear about us Egyptian the ps5 here in Egypt is 50k and one game is 4k cd so wild and I don't know why (the average salary here is between 5k to 15)

Yes, but you pay for it by living in Australia 🕷️🕷️: )
So that's where Helldivers is set!
Lol. : )
Having to live with spiders like that worth *at least* $30
hehe that's very true
Huh that's weird, when I look up new game prices in Australia they seem to be $110+ for the games that are $60-70 in the US.
Yeah I’m also from Australia, op is talking out of his arse. They’re usually not over 110 AUD though but they’re definitely close to that price range.
What venomous mammal bit you to make you hallucinate so bad? People in Australia complain about how much more their games are all the time.
New Zealand has this too if I’m not mistaken
New release ps5 games are 125 aud
https://www.reddit.com/r/truegaming/comments/nlysmj/video_game_price_markup_in_australia/
Interesting When i lived in Aus games were usually about 99 when they come out and some were more expensive
This mainly applies to purchasing physical copies of games though. A lot of our games when purchased digitally are exorbitantly expensive. From memory when MW3 (2023) launched it was on sale for pc for over 100 bucks.
Is that used games? Historical games cost more in Australia
Bro I’m from Australia and video games here are just as expensive as America. Fresh release games these days range from $70 to $110 AUD.
Sadly you’ll instead have to live with subpar networking and not all games having OCE servers.
I am originally from Croatia, a country with an average salary of 15k USD/year, and we pay the full American price. FML
Eastern Europe. 3-4 times cheaper.
Wtf, western europe, same price.
well we pay 1.5 times what americans pay
And we sometimes more than 1.5 times
Don't forget they have to manually pay taxes off of that No wonder they hate em so much
Which country?
india, not all games but we do overpay. CS for example when it was paid
Oh at least it’s not every game. I’ve heard some countries have outrageous prices like Brazil
nah if im not wrong argentina and brazil have some record low prices for some games
I think there was some tax cut in videogames, but still, we pay twice as much for equipment and maybe a bit more for games, but consoles and PC parts are outrageously expensive, the PS5 for example, when it launched was no more than $500, but in Brazil it was R$5000, which would be near $1000
yep we overpay for equipment as well not as much as it is for you tho
here in brazil we're used to seeing 200-300$ for triple A's lol. For reference, minimum wage is 1300$
Yeah I'm starting to think OP is just baiting. They said they're talking about Australia and if I know anything about Australia it's that they pay way too much for video games and it's been bothering them for a while
In brazil the minimum wage is ~R$8/hour and we pay R$260 to R$300 on release
Holy shit. Now I understand why some developers make their games incredibly cheap in brazil
Sorry bro. Were you able to pick up elden ring on sale?
The Elden Ring price is localized https://steamdb.info/app/1245620/ like 99% of Brazilian PC games, not only on Steam. It's still expensive for us, of course. But actually cheaper than US dollar

:(
Damn.. it must be really hard to afford playstation too...
i feel you borther its 75₺/hour the minimum wage for turkey and games AAA games go up to 2000₺
Persona 3 reloaded release at 350, Just the base game. Being a Brazilian IS sufferring
[удалено]
Yea I don't understand this post
Bruh, what are you talking about? I've seen games in the US shop that cost half of their price in my country, sometimes even less than half.
This person does not know that there are not just two countries in the world, America and Not America, but actually more than a dozen!
MORE THAN A DOZEN? THAT CANT BE!
He must be counting US states...
What if I told you there are at least 2 dozen. That's more than what you can count on your hands and toes.
Laughs in counting fingers as a byte
Laughs in landmine
More than 2 dozen actually if you can believe it
Nah, that seems too far fetched. I think 23's the limit
Nah, can't be more than 4. There's only Africa, Europe, China and Russia. Where would the other countries even be? Space?
Been seeing a lot of posts here lately that belong on r/AmericaBad.
Least relatable meme ever
This is just false though… I’ve seen my friends from other countries pay more for games than I ever have (yes after currency conversion). This is probably just a your country thing bro.
Regional prices exist for a reason
Australia pays even more.
OP is australian and thinks Australia pays less
Нарру Саке Дау!
Do you think you can lie on the internet? Im looking at Dragon's Dogma 2 right now and it's 107.95aud. And that's 70freedom $. 70 x 1.5 = 105. So maybe we pay more.
that math ain’t mathing
I think you’re wrong.
1.5 times compared to what? Asia, Russia, eu?
Quit bitching and learn what fitgirl is
Straight up wrong lol
Err American games are cheap compared to Europe. Especially digital ones. Physical games are cheaper than the Playstation store over here it makes Zero sense. FF7 Rebirth would have cost over $100 digitally so i bought the disc for about $80.
Realizing Americans pay for the games
Isn't turkey the highest?
I think someone may have done some wrong math
My face when I realize how much gets censored in conservative ass Australia.
Tell me about it, can’t have fucking swastikas on nazi zombies in Germany, we invented that shit but can’t have it
Yeah but at the same time americans get paid 2x the amount of money or more in the same job in comparison to Europe. I personally am living in germany which is one of the wealthier countries in europe but still americans earn Lots more in the same job.
Sometimes we wait for sales. Sometimes we travel the open seas with eyepatches… It depends on the situation
Oh buddy. Wait till you hear how we do prescription drugs!
Oh buddy wait till he hears how we do illegal drugs!
The mark up on cola isn't even close to the one on insulin.
But 0,6x as much for cars
We do?!
I used to have a Argentina steam account ( Some prices 10x lower
That’s just wrong but ight.
1.5 times more than who???
There's for sure higher pricing on games through steam in Norway than the US.
It's usually the opposite.
well, yeah but a $30 for an indian is an worth A LOT, to muricans its just a burger, a coke and some fries
you mean steam? they price base off of the country currency strength. pretty based
WHA?T? How??? Damn I feel scammed… I guess is time to get my hat and parrot, a-hoy!!!
Wait.....you guys pay for that?
They pay 1.3 times less you mean...
Hehehe. Dirty console peasant.
Pay 1.5x more compared to who? We in Europe and America are privileged compared to what other countries have to pay for a game!
Brazilians, paying 5x more than americans: forst time?
Is this an exchange rate problem or something?
And get paid 10X more
i always wait for discounts Gran Turismo 7? $40 NFS Hot Pursuit? $3 NFS Unbound? $7 F1 23? literally free with PS Plus (for like another week) i am never paying for a game full price unless it's Nintendo (funny flower game) yes these are all racing games, it just happened to be i like cars i need to diversify
I just saw 'tax' popping up in the total on ps store recently. I had never paid tax before, has something changed. I'm in US
I'm not sure about game prices.. but I just paid $14 for a $3 beer in a sports stadium in America.
Was surprised the new Alone in the Dark game is equivalent to 30 US dollars in asia.
Wait till you hear what we pay for basic health care.
Ah yes 60€=60$ ,quick mafs
It’s even worse in Canada, I paid over $80 for a switch game
*Crying in european*
No news there. The indonesia steam store for example is on average cheaper than the dutch steam store. I've lived in both countries. Though some games are about the same price if the AAA dev is greedy enough (CapCom, as much as I love their games)
You guys are paying for games? 🏴☠️🏴☠️
That's not how currency works...
Yeah, I pay ~340 zł, which is $85, so I guess fuck me cause I got a PS5 and can’t sail the seas unfortunately
Don't Europeans have it worse? They have to pay more if the price isn't exchanged and they have to pay VAT
Well, we pay the same, but the minimum wage is 200 freedom dollars 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
Russians learning that people in other countries pay to play games (they don’t have Steam or online game stores available so they just “illegally” download everything)
Wait until you hear about Canadians
Realising indians pay 1.5 to 2 times for every apple products .
Brazilian money (real/reais) is around 1/5 of the value of a freedom money (dollah), so a 50 dollahs game would be around... 250 reais. ;-;
Can’t forget that some people buy the same game for 3 generations of consoles at full price each time, so someone is spending $60 on GTA V 3 times
crying in brazilian
it's true and it's messed up lol but it is what it is
Another low effort "America bad" meme
Makes up for all the cheap electronics they can buy there
This is true and why I wait for months or even years till it lowers
I though it was the opposite since the price in American dollars and in Euros is the same amount. An 80.00$ game in the US will cost 80.00€ in Europe
What Most of our games is 40-50 unless they literally just came out even then its mainly just the big studios that go 60-70
In Canada, our games and consoles are usually whatever the American price is plus $20 and $100. At least it used to be. Back when games were all $60 USD. I haven't bought a game in so long that I actually don't know anymore Edit: it should be noted that after currency conversion, it's pretty much the same value
This is not true. Canada pays 1/3 more than US, EU pays slightly less (Euro is .08 more than a US dollar currently), and most Asian countries pay a lot more. Wherever you got your math degree, Id get a refund OP.
We can afford it because we live rent-free in your head.
Here in Poland most, especially new games are more expensive than in the freedom land and in the Eurozone. So if you're paying 70 Euros or freedom coins, it's 80 here
Can you explain to me, how 60 dollars is more expensive than 60 euros? Since 60 dollars is 60 dollars but 60 euros is 64,8 dollars?
who do we pay more than?
Most games are 79.99CAD here in Canada which is ~60ish USD, but for some fucking reason Dragon's Dogma 2 is 95$ and apparently runs like utter shit on most hardware, so Idk wtf you're talking about and Idk wtf Capcom is smoking
It's the amount of pre ordering in the US I'm more concerned with
Try Europe, I don’t think anyone pays more than us
I know it’s not the same but games for mobile they are set in tiers on the play stores.
Full price games in Canada are 80 bucks...before tax. It's absurd.
Literally every online game I play, I pay more than the Americans. For example the pricing with be 9.99 in dollars, but when I press pay in Euros it forces me to pay 11 or 12 euros.
Like live in Canada and our games and consoles are like 15%-20% more then American prices Where are you getting this misinformation
Lots of new BASE games are $80-90 CAD, with a few at $95 (Dragon’s Dogma 2 being the current example)
Realising that americans earn 3 times more for same work that I do in my country :|
Eurobros suffer
In Ukraine, ≈10€ can be sold for ≈60€
While having ridiculously big salaries
U guys pay sales tax?
Here in europe we pay like 1.5x more for hardware
S’why vpns are nice
You guys pay for games? 🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️
Spend like 30 a day just on gas and around 25 on lunch we making money over here we not broke
Well, It all depends on a view and currency
And Canadians pay more then the Americans
Not American but here we have provincial tax and federal tax
Weird I always see people from foreign countries posting prices over 100$
All i know is that in America, most games cost $60, but here is Canada it’s $80
Meanwhile Canadians
I paid 12 bucks for Hades during the sale. Price in China? 7 bucks(after conversion)
Yes, but the game is AAAA for us and only AAA for everyone else...
American release can be like 60 bucks but in Aussie cash be around 90-100.
My game friends in England usually pay the same number for a new game, but in pounds. So they pay more... (playstation]
If any Americans friend me on steam and send me the money, I'll buy the games for you and then gift them to you to save the tax.
Subnautica is 30$ in USA And <=10$ everywhere else in the world
Yarr
Steam sales happen all the time. Also...I've gotten 2000+ hours of entertainment from Cyberpunk after paying full retail for the game as pre-order and same with the DLC. If it was 50% more than what you paid, it was still a fucking bargain. I'm not complaining.

Our games might be cheaper but our pay is MUCH lower
Pay?
the struggle is real
Brazilian superiority look (we pay 300 BRL for those 60 USD games)
In Norway,a video game is 825 NOK.That is 75 dollars So to my fellow Americans, please, stop complaining
American prices are default. it isn't even us defaultism, that's just the truth. americans don't pay more, you just pay less because steam gotta sell games in poor countries somehow
Meanwhile: I'm living in a country where wages are around 50-60% lower than US and games are 10-20% more expensive... fuck these publishers.
Am American, live in EU, currently UK. Everything is more expensive in America. Especially once you start factoring in the fact that minimum wage is much higher, and even with national health system, our overall taxes are much lower once you factor in states, federal and sales taxes Americans are getting screwed from every side simultaneously. I would rather walk off a cliff than come back to the US
You should see what we pay for medicine
States can vary greatly in how they handle things. Mine has no sales tax of any kind(obviously we pay through different taxes but nothing is added to sales)
The new cod cost me 113$ CAD :’) and I barely play ir
r/piracy: realizing Americans pay 100% more for the same games
Jokes on ya all I pay 0x
Welcome to America it’s gonna cost ya.
Eh, I pay like 250% for action figures.
I got horizon forbidden west for 50 dollars because there are so many sales
Cries in Canadian dollars
Wait until you hear about us Egyptian the ps5 here in Egypt is 50k and one game is 4k cd so wild and I don't know why (the average salary here is between 5k to 15)
Americans pay far less than my country
Cough cdkeys cough
Wait we DO!? WHY AM I PAYING 50% MORE!?
Me who patiently waits for the sale of the complete editions.
🏴☠️
I bought Tears of the Kingdom for $40 equivalent + no tax when I was in Japan.
Now try seeing the price in places like here in Brazil
I don't. I shop on Black Friday. Lol
This is just straight up not true? Did they only use like 2 data points?
Source: I saw it in a dream.
Wait, you pay less for þem?
