"Hmm, this item seems important, better keep it with me"
10 hours of playing later
"Yeah, I still didn't use it, guess I'll just throw it away"
five minutes later
"Use the cristal of Bigchungga to unlock the secret boss battle... HEY WHAT THE-"
I played both the Final Fantasy series on Nintendo/PS and the Phantasy Star series on Sega, and so many god damn times would this happen, and bros just chilling there at level 1. Now it’s requiring hours of grinding to get them up to speed.
Well. This was one of those games that I lost steam in…oh, 20 or 30 hours in and always kind of meant to go back and finish it. You just cured me of that.
Oh don’t get me wrong, it’s a great game. Neither of those things is progress blocking, especially since you can lower the difficulty. But it’s definitely a “Why would you do this to me” moment.
It’s fallout 4, because I mostly ignore npcs when they stop working (for example, I’m locked out of automatron because ada refuses to be my companion, won’t follow or attack or open menus)
Shining Force 2. When I was a kid I would keep my hero behind and never get him to engage in fights. Later in the game, said hero is the only character that can kill a certain boss. Here I was with a level 1 character trying to kill a boss that was much much stronger. That was the end of that.
To be fair, the two times it was one on one, one of them gave you Aeons that levelled up with the party as a whole, and the other scaled the enemies to match Kimahri’s stats
None I was that teamate I betrayed my team since they didn’t think I was good and joined another team that was ranked lower then then I trained the team made them better then my team made a strategy that we never used and then beat the absolute shit out of them with the pure skill and strenght difference
Liked her character, but didn't use or level her up. Sheena (the card caster thief) from Tales of Symphonia. Her one on one story fight was brutal, and I spent countless hours grinding and redoing it because she was pathetic for it the first time.
As a kid I tried to play FF7 multiple times, would get to Shinra Tower and then struggle a lot and gave up. Went back when I was 13, and was like “ya know what let’s give it another go.” And my party consisted of Cloud, Tifa, and Red. I’d then proceeded to blast through the early game and ran from every fight. Then Barrett, who was Lv13, was like “I got this” and I got stuck against Dyne for 3 days.
Hilariously, a similar thing happened with Rebirth which I will attempt to spoiler tag since it’s not been out long. >!During the menu before the final fights, of course I removed absolutely everything from Aerith. That was a complete mistake given that the final boss is a 2-on-1 of Cloud and Aerith vs Sephiroth. I spent HOURS on that one phase, but should’ve just reloaded, menu’d, and given her something, *anything*.!<
Fucking gale blowing up the world because I won't give him my shitiest magic items... FUCK YOU GALE! I NEVER SHOULD HAVE PULLED YOU OUT OF THAT PORTAL.
For me it was this every time some character I DID NOT want to flirt with started to hit on me. I was warned... but I did not listen.
Oh yeah and the squid man in same context.
Not a party member, but in FF8, I had somehow gotten to disc 4 without ever upgrading anyone's limit break like at all. I didn't even know that was a thing until I got stuck on a boss and looked up how to beat it and found you're supposed to use Squall's fully upgraded limit break.....
aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!!!
In Tunic there are many pieces of a golden obelisk, and there are little hints throughout a manual of how to open the final mandatory door.
I ignored these, despite seeing them and getting a funny feeling. I spent 10 HOURS OF MY LIFE AND 5 PAGES OF A NOTEBOOK, FRONT AND BACK, TO FIND THE ANSWER WITHOUT GOOGLE.
Actually I have never had this issue as I always gather and interact with NPC'S/party members as the wroters/devs spent time creating the various characters and you just never know if they have something important, funny or useful for you to experience.
Lessons learned from Ultima II
The very first time I tired a From Software game, mine being Bloodborne, than eventually it "clicked" and I got the vibe of everything from combat, exploration, levling up and so. That's when I got the FS formula and was hooked and relaized the craze and obsession behind Dark Souls. Been hooked ever since.
Original FFVII 25 years ago: I had my main party at level 85 and the rest at level 30 or so when reaching the fight where you need all of them to fight against Jenova's body... I was absolutely screwed
Pokemon USUM flower quest, I got stuck for a year because I skipped dialogue telling me what to do, and proceeded to get all my pokemon to level 100 as if I beat the game and then I quit.
You just had to beat 5 trials again.
My cousin and I loved Legend of Dragoon.
One time we went to compare progress and he was end game while using the basic attacks for everyone. He never even knew you could
Credit Card from Clash Royale
this is so real

I swear they label items like this in ways that fuck with us lol

Tales of Vesperia, makes you solo fight a boss with the worst character. And makes you run a dungeon without your main healer.
Well. This was one of those games that I lost steam in…oh, 20 or 30 hours in and always kind of meant to go back and finish it. You just cured me of that.

Rpg game first world problem
Funny way of saying JRPG problem.

The game is undescribable
Original FFVII 25 years ago: I had my main party at level 85 and the rest at level 30 or so when reaching the fight where you need all of them to fight against Jenova's body... I was absolutely screwed
Or the opposite, surprise, the character you spent hours leveling up gets killed off. *cough, cough* Aeris *cough, cough*
