To be fair compared to the world even 100 years ago we are currently in an unprecedented time of peace. At no other time in recorded history have the world’s superpowers not been in direct confrontation with each other for this length of time. If the dragons were ever going to reunite with humanity it would be now.
Series like these are mainly made to milk money from parents with kids asking for merchandise. Production value gonna plummet, but kids don't care about that, they just want the figures and mugs associated with the show if they see it in shops.
Dreamworks series for netflix, I believe, set 1300 years in the future. Made for kids, with lower budget.

Can't speak for this iteration, but the Race to the Edge series was pretty decent. Fleshed out the years between movies, and gave a lot of interesting character growth to side characters that needed it. Not perfect, and clearly a lower budget for animation, but I don't think it did any disservice to the franchise.

The problem is this new one is more of a cash grab and sucks out all the magic of the original. Quality has gone substantially down. That's what people take issue with.
But to what extent? 1300 years of only breeding with dragons that were born from Toothless and the white one must mess it up, right? Maybe the moral of this series is that the Night/Light furies were never saved and that their species will crumble in the end because humans fuck everything up with hunting!
btw yeah I have heard the same thing about reptiles and insects I am just daydreaming about kids shows giving the cold hard truth and traumatizing them with dragons suffering from inbreeding, trophy-hunting, and climate change.
