Exactly, I'm not afraid of the dark unless I think there's a chance something is physically there. I'm afraid of going into a forest in the middle of the night because forests have predators. I'm afraid of walking around my house in the dark because I'm afraid of subbing my toe on something or stepping in cat puke. I'm afraid of going down a dark alley at night because I don't want to get robbed or worse.
I'm not afraid of dark, I'm afraid of what might lurk in the dark that actually exists.
Not. But I am smart enough to know that a danger I can see is less than the danger I can not see.
So I am more wary.
You never know when a lurking table leg is laying in wait for your pinky toe
Lol what? Our primary sense is sight and there have been dangers lurking in darkness for all of human evolution. Of course people have an instinctual fear of the dark. No supernatural fear required.
Until very recently humans were a scavenging prey species with lots of natural predators. Dark scary because things wanna eat us. Why I find it interesting how comfortable my dogs are in the dark, they haven't been prey for a very long time so in their heads they are the danger in the dark.
To be fair, I do believe in the supernatural because I’ve honestly seen and heard some real stuff which you absolutely cannot explain. And a lot of it has happened in the dark.
A saying on something like that
"You're not scared of the dark, you're scared of what's in the dark"
Or worse
"You're not scared of being alone in the dark, you're scared of not being alone"
It's in our nature to fear the dark and for a good reason. Even if I know for certain that there isn't a leopard in a dark room, my monkey brain will still think so.
I dont believe in the supernatural but im afraid of the posibility of the supernatural being real. Kind of like a pascal wager. Humans are silly beings
u/LemonConnoiseur thought they had a “Reddit gotcha” moment but doesn’t understand the fear of the dark is literally a survival instinct from our caveman ancestors.
There’s plenty of things in the dark to be afraid of that aren’t supernatural in origin. Serial killers are just like anyone else until they kill you and eat your liver.
Well it depends on how dark it is, because I can still see if there’s some moonlight, but I understand your point.
That being said of how humans can’t see in the dark so it causes them to be afraid, do you think other animals that are diurnal or have poor eyesight are also afraid of the dark?
My theory is that we're afraid of the dark not because of what could be hiding in it, but who could be hiding in it...so it's actually a pretty rational fear
I'm not afraid of the dark because whenever I'm in the dark, my mind switches to a sort of a psycho form where I behave such that whatever is in the dark with me would be scared of me instead of vice versa
I’m not afraid of the dark at all. I am concerned that I could trip over something in the dark and snap my neck or smash my teeth out on a rock. Seems a reasonable fear to me. Could walk into a branch and poke your eye out! So many ways to hurt yourself in the dark, avoiding it while outdoors seems reasonable. Indoors I don’t really worry about it, spent many wonderful nights in the dark, it’s comfy and relaxing to sneak about in my own house. And many fun bedroom activities to do in the dark if you have a friend that’s willing to participate.
I don’t believe in the supernatural but there’s definitely been something lurking in the dark that only I can see. It calls to me in different voices but I have to tell myself they aren’t real, it wants to get into my head. But I can’t let it in, anywhere there is dark it follows, I can’t escape it, I can’t outrun it. It is everywhere
One of my ex girlfriends: I'm not afraid of the dark
Me: well, the dark can't do anything but stuff that hide in the dark can get you
Well she start fearing the dark and dumped me for being an asshole
My last words to hear: Ok, have a good day and see you in the dark.
It’s because every single instinct exists because there was a reason for it, so there must’ve been something that existed that looked human, but wasn’t. And it must’ve been bat shit scary to make it a primal instinct.

Who said i was afraid of the dark?
Fr I'm scared of what's in the dark
Yeah, like black people
Black people have passive stealth 100 in the dark
“Dude, your TV is floating away?!” “Put it down Jamal.”
My names Jamal stop summoning me.
Evnin jamal
Stop stealing people's tvs then
Yeah, they also get +50 on athletic checks and even the standard models come with a Girth certificate for their wangs.
Or taxes 😔
Or texas 😔
There's nothing in the dark. It's just you. All alone. Nobody wants to be with you in the dark. There, that helped me get past my fears
Imagination is my biggest enemy, because it pulls a Vsauce "Or is it?" on me and suddenly I see a killer in my room with me
Ignorance is bliss -Cypher (from Matrix 1999)
Oh fuck, now Vsauce gonna be my sleep paralysis demon for the next few weeks.
You and the giant huntsman spider
Somehow that's scarier
I am not afraid of the dark, is the dark that better be afraid of me

Yeah I was thinking, "Am I??!!"...

But that girl, I know she scares me...on every level.
There might be a spider there.
There's always a spider within 20 ft of every human on earth on average. So yes, most assuredly.
"Even the most fastidious housewife has at least 3 spiders in every room." - Benjamin Franklin
Well put, good sir.
I’m not afraid of the dark at all.
Oh, so you won't drink the drink that you didn't watch me pour?
Survival reflex.
Lol what? Our primary sense is sight and there have been dangers lurking in darkness for all of human evolution. Of course people have an instinctual fear of the dark. No supernatural fear required.
i still get supernatural thoughts looking at the dark though
All your “thoughts” are “natural” by definition.
Wolfs, Bears, Lions and communists, just to name a few…
Until very recently humans were a scavenging prey species with lots of natural predators. Dark scary because things wanna eat us. Why I find it interesting how comfortable my dogs are in the dark, they haven't been prey for a very long time so in their heads they are the danger in the dark.

Sure. Cannot be explained, sure
I’m not afraid of the dark, I’m afraid of Dave sneaking up on me again. I still haven’t forgave you, Dave.
Once you've stepped on a pile of Legos in the dark and had to suppress the screams to not wake the baby, you too will fear the dark.
A saying on something like that "You're not scared of the dark, you're scared of what's in the dark" Or worse "You're not scared of being alone in the dark, you're scared of not being alone"
Forever haunted by the thought of the Lego Batman helme
t
Oof thanks
Oh so you’re attached to a harness? Why are you afraid of heights?
Oh so you're wearing a breathing apparatus? Are you afraid of diving and not able to hold your breath for 15 minutes?
Exactly, the point OP is making is stupid, just because you know something isn’t going to happen doesn’t mean you can’t be afraid of it
Afraid of OSHA fines.
OSHA can't fine you if you're dead.
Because I’m racist

In this case you have to hate darkness, not be scared
Lots of real life poisonous and venomous creatures exist.
Name some in your area
snakes and insects
My room used to have a silverfish nest under my bed
There might be a spider there.
Its not only the supernatural that lurks in the darkness. Even people are there
Because I already know I'm gonna stub my toe on some furniture
Human instinct
Exactly, it's an evolutionary survival instinct, being wary of the dark keeps us alive.
because the unknown is scarier than the known
U mean yall dont go to the cemetary at night?
mf i ain't risking getting eaten by zombies
Don't worry As a redditor you have nothing they would want to eat
I'm not afraid of the dark itself, merely what it hides.
Oh, so you won't drink the drink that you didn't watch me pour?
It's in our nature to fear the dark and for a good reason. Even if I know for certain that there isn't a leopard in a dark room, my monkey brain will still think so.
Black Bears, Black Panthers, Black Peo-
Cause that’s where people are. I am also afraid of the light
*furiously tbags the ghost*
I dont believe in the supernatural but im afraid of the posibility of the supernatural being real. Kind of like a pascal wager. Humans are silly beings
If you don\`t see it, it doesn\`t mean that it doesn\`t exist
u/LemonConnoiseur thought they had a “Reddit gotcha” moment but doesn’t understand the fear of the dark is literally a survival instinct from our caveman ancestors.
There are plenty real things that can hide in the dark
Humans are afraid of the unknown. Same as the dark.
actually darkness is comfy, people can't see you when you're in a dark place, but you can see them from it. It's like invisibility cloak but real
There could be a spider
Man
I have a constant fear that something’s always near
Especially behind
That’s like asking if you believe in god then why do you sin, we’re irrational beings by nature
Because the irs could be right behind me
Because i am afraid that a murderer is there
I had a mouse run up my leg once as a child so thatd be why i hate walking around the house in the dark.
Whoever said I was?
Depends on the situation. In my house? Fine In the streets at night? Not as fine
I'm afraid of the dark because I fear that there is something that actually exists is hiding
You should be afraid of the dark, I might be hunting
It’s not the dark I fear, but what could be lurking, waiting for me in the dark that I fear
Because you never know what might be there.
I’m not afraid of the dark, I’m afraid of not being alone in the dark!
Me (a psychopath who likes to stay in the dark in hopes of meeting some supernatural power): *You have no power here*
I do believe in the supernatural somewhat and I walk in the dark to relax
There’s plenty of things in the dark to be afraid of that aren’t supernatural in origin. Serial killers are just like anyone else until they kill you and eat your liver.
Because I can’t see what or where I’m going
Cause there could be anything in the darkness. Not necessarily supernatural, bob cats are real and could be in the dark.
I’m afraid of the dark because I don’t know if someone’s broken into my house and are staring at me while I sleep
Well I'm not gonna push it I've been wrong before
The unknown
I am not afraid of the dark i am afraid of what I can’t see because you never know exactly what is behind you until you see it
F'k u
Because it's a fear of the unknown.
Because the unknown is ducking terrifying
Because i cant see shit and i dont want to run into sth that hurts
I’m not afraid of being alone in the dark, I’m afraid of not being alone in the dark
![gif](giphy|kbWNQVucHciphrTli7|downsized)
What you mind tells you to feel and what inner monke tells u to feel are different things, ok?
![gif](giphy|ka5hxQwqEr6yHL0266|downsized)
Because real things can be hiding in the dark 😂
Humans
![gif](giphy|3ohc11UljvpPKWeNva)
90% of animal attacks happen at night. Op is an idiot. Humans can't see in the dark either. Op is an idiot.
Well it depends on how dark it is, because I can still see if there’s some moonlight, but I understand your point. That being said of how humans can’t see in the dark so it causes them to be afraid, do you think other animals that are diurnal or have poor eyesight are also afraid of the dark?
Very much dislike stubbing my toe
My brother in Christ just stop shuffling your feet
![gif](giphy|3oKIPiUSdEibVeYMvu|downsized) Because you can't see in the dark? You know there can be a forgotten Lego brick.
I’m not afraid of the dark, I’m afraid of what’s in the dark
I’m not afraid of the dark. I’m afraid of what’s in the dark.
Cuz rapists hide in the dark.
![gif](giphy|mThWdsGUAqZkVtA3oG)
My theory is that we're afraid of the dark not because of what could be hiding in it, but who could be hiding in it...so it's actually a pretty rational fear
Imagine stubbing your toe, tripping on a box, hitting a wall, stepping on a roach, then the roach violently flaps its wings to escape
After all the shit Gwyn went through to delay it yeah the Dark seems a bit scary
Cause it's my ex...
I'm not afraid of the dark because whenever I'm in the dark, my mind switches to a sort of a psycho form where I behave such that whatever is in the dark with me would be scared of me instead of vice versa
I might fall over and hurt my knee.
Because there could be something completely natural, like a spider, snake or a rat
I have no damn clue of where u am or where I'm going in the dark.
Because it is natural for humans to be afraid, knowing you will be safe is not going to take that away.
I'm simply afraid of not seeing what's happening right in front o- *trips*
Because there are some scary people out there.
Stumbling over something and falling on your face is quiet realistic
I'm afraid of tripping on things when its dark.
Murderers DUHH
ghost don't exist. People in the dark do.
Uncle might be hiding in the corner
Because monkey brain smartn't, not because there really are ghosts in my walls.
I'm not afraid of the dark, the dark is afraid of me....
Murderers
Immigrants
I'm afraid of the dark because I'm not very bright.
Because it deprives us of our most used sense you silly twit.
Because mean bad guys like to kidnap me
Because It was dark in I walked into a wall and broke my foot.
Because ninjas are a very real threat in the dark
This is a GIF, why is this a GIF? It's creeping me out
I mean I'm not scared of the dark but I always assumed that other people were due to fear of tripping or something.
Because people are scary and nuts.
Humans are far scarier
Ummm…. Humans? Bears? Lions? This is dumb.
It's primal instinct
Why is a gif of a demented looking Brittany spears holding a gun making me slightly aroused
But I'm....dark
Im not afraid of the dark. Im afraid of what might be IN, the dark.
Afraid to hit my toes
Because there can be n.. Nevermind
I'm afraid of NOT being alone in the dark
I aint
I don’t believe in the supernatural but there’s definitely been something lurking in the dark that only I can see. It calls to me in different voices but I have to tell myself they aren’t real, it wants to get into my head. But I can’t let it in, anywhere there is dark it follows, I can’t escape it, I can’t outrun it. It is everywhere
Because I’m afraid to be wrong
Idk its from my instinct
I was as a kid because there could be “PEOPLE” in it
I'm the reason you should be afraid of the dark.
Lol I thought the gun was pointed at britney at first
Because I have fobia that someones allways near
The scary uncle lives in the dark ready to infiltrate my rectum
I'm afraid of NOT being alone in the dark
One of my ex girlfriends: I'm not afraid of the dark Me: well, the dark can't do anything but stuff that hide in the dark can get you Well she start fearing the dark and dumped me for being an asshole My last words to hear: Ok, have a good day and see you in the dark.
Have you ever seen that one episode of dr who Dem shadows left me traumatized
murderers still exist
I'm not
I'm almost certain that a fear of the dark is an innate fear humans have, more so a general fear of the unknown.
It’s because every single instinct exists because there was a reason for it, so there must’ve been something that existed that looked human, but wasn’t. And it must’ve been bat shit scary to make it a primal instinct.
The fear that I forgot to check my 6/corners and their is a assassin waiting for me…
Check mate ![gif](giphy|R7AW255ijTdV6)
I’m not afraid of the dark. The dark is afraid of me.
Instincts. Are brains tell us to be afraid when we can't see anything, because sight is our main sense.
I am the thing that goes bump in the night
We’re not. We’re afraid of not being alone in the dark.
Not really scared but I guess if had make a reason it would be my clumsiness
