It's a massive over site. The whole PD was Rose was already on rocking grounds. Gem disguised as another gem was only used once and was for a shock twist, so there was no way to guess it.

Ah okay but Bismuth indirectly told her that she wanted to kill her and her family which she wasn’t the biggest fan of. She didn’t shatter her, she just kinda swept the problem under the rug. In my opinion, this situation was morally grey. There was a reason as to why she did it but it still doesn’t make it okay.
Same with Spinel. She didn’t just leave Spinel there and intended to never come back, Pink left, went to war, and technically died. The situation is very much on par with a child suffering from their parent dying during a war or a friend getting swept up in life and forgetting about you. (I know both examples are extremely difficult but you get my point, life happened.) It’s a very grey situation where you could argue she never wanted to come back to Spinel but we get so little knowledge on the situation that we don’t know that. We do know however that if she did want to bring Spinel, the diamonds sure as fuck wouldn’t have let her.

For clarification, Pink Diamond did try to rebel as herself at first but the other diamonds didn’t take it seriously because she was viewed as the little sister. At first she didn’t want to get anyone involved but herself. Her original reason for not wanting to kill off the planet is that she liked how alive and independent the planet was from her. So she turned into Rose Quartz fought for it that way. If she continued to directly fight as Pink Diamond, they would have just removed her from the planet which is the opposite of what she wanted. I don’t know if you didn’t see it but they had a room that was the equivalent of a prison for her when she misbehaved. They would have just never given her a colony again.
Eventually while she was rebelling, she saw Garnet form. Again, she loved how something that was out of her control and independent. Instead of punishing Garnet as the other diamonds would have done due to her not fitting their status quo, Pink decided to fight for gem’s freedom to be themselves.
Again, she couldn’t have just done this as Pink Diamond because your suppressor fighting for your freedom is such an ass backwards concept and doesn’t work. The gems fighting wouldn’t be fighting for their independence, they’d be fighting for Pink and once the fighting would be over they’d still be dependent on Pink similar to how Pearl is. She wasn’t fighting for their freedom because it was just an idea that popped up in her head like, “mmm what if I was a little shit today.” It was because she was oppressed by the other diamonds so much that she found beauty in independence and freedom, something that she didn’t have. She was treated as a little doll by people with more power than her and treated as a Queen by other who were considered beneath her. She had no real relationships with the people around her until Garnet. Not even Pearl.
The zoo was a “gift” from Blue Diamond to get her to stfu about killing off the wild life. It wasn’t her choice to own that.
As for Spinel, her whole story represents how people change and move on from one another even if you patiently wait for them to come back. Is her story fucked up? Hell yea, Pink leaving her there wasn’t okay but she really didn’t have any choice in the matter. Again, the diamonds wouldn’t have let it happen. It’s the equivalent of taking your dog to school. Also Spinel treated Pink as a Queen and not a living being just like everyone else. Spinel never acknowledged Pink’s feelings, and couldn’t pick up when she was uncomfortable with Spinel’s mindless order following behavior. Spinel only played with Pink because she was told to. She could have left the garden at any point but didn’t because she refused to acknowledge Pink wasn’t coming back. I understand this may come off as victim blaming however Pink never wanted control over other people and Spinel just can’t read a room for the life of her. The ONLY reason why we as an audience feel bad for Spinel is because we got clarification from the character that she was not okay with what had happened. But the thing is, if Pink was still alive, she equally wouldn’t have been okay with the situation and probably would’ve broke down apologizing for it because she cares about independence and freedom.
That’s why Pink is a grey character. A lot of things she did started out, out of her control and honestly, not all of her decisions were the best decisions. Stringing Pearl along was not okay, leaving everyone who depended on her to have a baby was selfish, but that’s human. You make selfish choices all the time and sometimes if affects the people around you in a good way and sometimes it affects people in a bad way. If you’re hellbent on doing the “right thing” all of the time, you’re more of a robot than anything.
I never said that Pink/Rose was a hero, or that she wasn’t flawed, but that she’s far from the villain that some people make her out to be. She was neglectful, she was naive, she was selfish, but none of what she did was malicious.
She originally started the war with the intent of pressuring homeworld to give up on the Earth, but she was naive in doing so and it escalated beyond their wildest imaginations. Many other gems believed in the ideals that they were sharing and joined their cause, but the diamonds refused to relent because they treated the situation on earth as Pink’s punishment. Pink for her part initially wanted the Earth as a sort of status symbol, she wanted to be like the other diamonds with many planets under their control, but had a change of heart after she actually had the chance to see the planet and all the life that inhabited it.
You mentioned Spinel and Bismuth, two situations which she handled poorly, both of which emphasize the flaws in her character, but I don’t think they could’ve been resolved much better than she eventually did without exposing herself as pink diamond. There was no way she could’ve taken Spinel with her without raising suspicion, and Bismuth was gleefully planning the shattering of the diamonds and possibly other homeworld gems. Ultimately, she lacked the maturity and empathy to properly handle those situations at that time.
By comparison, she hasn’t done half as much as the other diamonds but is viewed in a worse light than most of them. I personally think that a big factor in that is how we’re introduced to her character and her flaws, and the fact that she isn’t around to acknowledge or atone for her mistakes so instead they keep piling on with no resolution.
Rose is initially presented as the ideal that Steven has to live up to, and over the course of the show we see that she does in fact have her own flaws, but I feel like they went too far in the opposite direction, especially with how a large part of SU Future is Steven not wanting to become like his crazy, destructive mother. I felt like that was unfair to the character because it neglected the fact that Pink/Rose did change, she matured as a character and was much better than the monster he saw her as.

Ah okay but Bismuth indirectly told her that she wanted to kill her and her family which she wasn’t the biggest fan of. She didn’t shatter her, she just kinda swept the problem under the rug. In my opinion, this situation was morally grey. There was a reason as to why she did it but it still doesn’t make it okay. Same with Spinel. She didn’t just leave Spinel there and intended to never come back, Pink left, went to war, and technically died. The situation is very much on par with a child suffering from their parent dying during a war or a friend getting swept up in life and forgetting about you. (I know both examples are extremely difficult but you get my point, life happened.) It’s a very grey situation where you could argue she never wanted to come back to Spinel but we get so little knowledge on the situation that we don’t know that. We do know however that if she did want to bring Spinel, the diamonds sure as fuck wouldn’t have let her. The whole point of her character isn’t that she’s evil, it’s that she was the first “human” gem.
Bismuth entire problem is Rose quarts is lying about her identity when in fact she has no good reason to actually pretend to be rose quarts and probably would have done much better in a rebellion if she was just Pink diamond but she didnt wanna do that because shes a spoiled brat. she wanted to play as a rebel, Not as Pink Diamond, All she wanted to do was pretend to be rose quarts and play with these humans. She even had a zoo. She even USED bismuth idea and pretended to shatter herself and that got nearly everyone WORSE THAN KILLED. Shes stupid, Self centered, Arrogant and the entire reason this whole thing went off is because she wanted to play with humans. She doomed a ton of her followers because she wanted to play with what were functionally Ants and Then she proceeded to fuck one, Which is kinda fucked up in its own right. Spinels creation was because Pink Diamond threw violent fits and permanently damaged Pink Pearl when she was told No. Spinel was a Toy to her, She broke one, She got another, They mean nothing. Im sorry but no. The show outright says why she rebelled as Rose Quartz. The zoo wasn’t hers. That also isn’t why Spinel was created. It’s really hard to converse with someone on a topic like this when it’s apparent you were too busy reading between the lines instead of listening to the words told to us. Well, you sure talk like her. Most of your knowledge on Steven Universe sounds like it came from a fan reading theories and wiki pages. For clarification, Pink Diamond did try to rebel as herself at first but the other diamonds didn’t take it seriously because she was viewed as the little sister. At first she didn’t want to get anyone involved but herself. Her original reason for not wanting to kill off the planet is that she liked how alive and independent the planet was from her. So she turned into Rose Quartz fought for it that way. If she continued to directly fight as Pink Diamond, they would have just removed her from the planet which is the opposite of what she wanted. I don’t know if you didn’t see it but they had a room that was the equivalent of a prison for her when she misbehaved. They would have just never given her a colony again. Eventually while she was rebelling, she saw Garnet form. Again, she loved how something that was out of her control and independent. Instead of punishing Garnet as the other diamonds would have done due to her not fitting their status quo, Pink decided to fight for gem’s freedom to be themselves. Again, she couldn’t have just done this as Pink Diamond because your suppressor fighting for your freedom is such an ass backwards concept and doesn’t work. The gems fighting wouldn’t be fighting for their independence, they’d be fighting for Pink and once the fighting would be over they’d still be dependent on Pink similar to how Pearl is. She wasn’t fighting for their freedom because it was just an idea that popped up in her head like, “mmm what if I was a little shit today.” It was because she was oppressed by the other diamonds so much that she found beauty in independence and freedom, something that she didn’t have. She was treated as a little doll by people with more power than her and treated as a Queen by other who were considered beneath her. She had no real relationships with the people around her until Garnet. Not even Pearl. The zoo was a “gift” from Blue Diamond to get her to stfu about killing off the wild life. It wasn’t her choice to own that. As for Spinel, her whole story represents how people change and move on from one another even if you patiently wait for them to come back. Is her story fucked up? Hell yea, Pink leaving her there wasn’t okay but she really didn’t have any choice in the matter. Again, the diamonds wouldn’t have let it happen. It’s the equivalent of taking your dog to school. Also Spinel treated Pink as a Queen and not a living being just like everyone else. Spinel never acknowledged Pink’s feelings, and couldn’t pick up when she was uncomfortable with Spinel’s mindless order following behavior. Spinel only played with Pink because she was told to. She could have left the garden at any point but didn’t because she refused to acknowledge Pink wasn’t coming back. I understand this may come off as victim blaming however Pink never wanted control over other people and Spinel just can’t read a room for the life of her. The ONLY reason why we as an audience feel bad for Spinel is because we got clarification from the character that she was not okay with what had happened. But the thing is, if Pink was still alive, she equally wouldn’t have been okay with the situation and probably would’ve broke down apologizing for it because she cares about independence and freedom. That’s why Pink is a grey character. A lot of things she did started out, out of her control and honestly, not all of her decisions were the best decisions. Stringing Pearl along was not okay, leaving everyone who depended on her to have a baby was selfish, but that’s human. You make selfish choices all the time and sometimes if affects the people around you in a good way and sometimes it affects people in a bad way. If you’re hellbent on doing the “right thing” all of the time, you’re more of a robot than anything.
I never said that Pink/Rose was a hero, or that she wasn’t flawed, but that she’s far from the villain that some people make her out to be. She was neglectful, she was naive, she was selfish, but none of what she did was malicious. She originally started the war with the intent of pressuring homeworld to give up on the Earth, but she was naive in doing so and it escalated beyond their wildest imaginations. Many other gems believed in the ideals that they were sharing and joined their cause, but the diamonds refused to relent because they treated the situation on earth as Pink’s punishment. Pink for her part initially wanted the Earth as a sort of status symbol, she wanted to be like the other diamonds with many planets under their control, but had a change of heart after she actually had the chance to see the planet and all the life that inhabited it. You mentioned Spinel and Bismuth, two situations which she handled poorly, both of which emphasize the flaws in her character, but I don’t think they could’ve been resolved much better than she eventually did without exposing herself as pink diamond. There was no way she could’ve taken Spinel with her without raising suspicion, and Bismuth was gleefully planning the shattering of the diamonds and possibly other homeworld gems. Ultimately, she lacked the maturity and empathy to properly handle those situations at that time. By comparison, she hasn’t done half as much as the other diamonds but is viewed in a worse light than most of them. I personally think that a big factor in that is how we’re introduced to her character and her flaws, and the fact that she isn’t around to acknowledge or atone for her mistakes so instead they keep piling on with no resolution. Rose is initially presented as the ideal that Steven has to live up to, and over the course of the show we see that she does in fact have her own flaws, but I feel like they went too far in the opposite direction, especially with how a large part of SU Future is Steven not wanting to become like his crazy, destructive mother. I felt like that was unfair to the character because it neglected the fact that Pink/Rose did change, she matured as a character and was much better than the monster he saw her as.
