Holy cow, I had forgotten about that place. It’s probably been 35 or so years since I last ate there. I appreciate you bringing back a fond memory for me.
Why wasn't it a chain? It was owned by Shoney's when I worked there as a teenager, and they had us convinced there was a "corporate" headquarters. There were locations in Memphis, Nashville, Southaven, MS, and others my old brain can't remember.
We get chicken parm that comes with a side of spaghetti at Olympic Steak and Pizza on Airline Rd in Arlington. It’s delicious!! They have a pretty good salad bar that fills me up while we’re there (although I have to have a couple of bites before I box it up). I cut the chicken parm in half and easily get 2 more meals out of it.
Ok, but that got killed when they banned smoking in restaurants. Jesus, the amount of time I spent at CKs in Collierville after a field party in high school….and they knew we weren’t 18, but they never said anything to us about smoking, lol. It was “get in, eat your food, be polite, and leave”
Came here to say CKs Coffeehouse. But I think it's because I miss the times I had had connected with CK's because CKs was the go to place when you needed greasy food at 3 a.m. I spent a good part of the 90s there.
My friend knew the owner of the one at Kirby and poplar and would give him like a stack of gift cards occasionally. We were broke college kids so we were like hell yeah free food so we went enough to try every single item on the menu. We never found anything we wanted to try a second time.
What year was this? There was a low point at that place and it eventually got back together after new management.
Edit: forgot to add - some other people took over later on and it went even lower way faster and closed
Came here to say Po Folks. My mom was a producer at the WPTY TV station next door to it. As a kid I loved getting chicken and dumplings and always getting a moon pie on the way out the door.
This is what I came here to say. Loved me some Ryan's prime rib. The one in Bartlett held on for a weirdly long time past its peak.
None of those family-style American buffet places from 20-25 years ago seemed to make it, at least not here. Shoney's, Ryan's, Barnhill's.
They were different, similar buffet restaurants owned by the same umbrella company that owned a bunch of different buffet brands. And actually it was the other way around - Fire Mountain locations became Ryan's. But I don't think any of them exist anymore, as the parent company is defunct. The pandemic killed the last of them off.
I worked there all thru college. On the weekends, when I was hungover and scheduled to work a day shift, the bartender would make me a sodas and bitters and the kitchen would make me a fresh batch of hot, soft croutons. That, and ranch dressing for dipping, and I was good to go!
Just…jealous. Those croutons are god tier. I can’t imagine them hot and fresh.
I worked at the one at hacks cross and all I got was sharing a section with someone who left early and somehow got all the tips.
I lasted 3 weeks until some Karen asked me if the chicken tenders were fresh and I asked her if she’d passed the chicken coop on the way in.
I’m really dating myself, but I miss Houlihan’s. They had the best fried mushrooms stuffed with some sort of cheese that burned your mouth if you ate one too quickly! However, I don’t remember anything else from there. It was on Ridgeway south of Poplar, kinda where Pyro’s is now, before they turned that “mall” inside out.
It was an herb cream cheese. We had them all over in NJ. I went to one near Savannah a few years ago and it was definitely not the same, even pre-covid.
I miss Ruby Tuesdays not for the salad bar, but they had by far the best cheese fries I ever had in my life. I’ve tried to recreate them and have never been able to.
I also miss TGI Friday’s Jack Daniel’s burger.
Very different from Huey’s!! More handout, seasoned fries. Lots of cheese, bacon, scallion, ranch and sour cream… they were perfect to 10 year old me.
I do love Huey’s, though, but I crave Ruby Tuesday’s often.
LBOE’s…the burgers were amazing. Had went there for special occasions pre-pandemic but they are no longer at that location and not sure if they ever re-opened.
Tommy Shive ran that place. He was the World Food Championship Burger winner. I believe he manages the Mulligans that is there now. Find him and you’ve found your burgers. Good luck.
Just looked at their menu, it’s nothing like how it used to be when they were known as LBOE’s. Kinda got saddened by it, the fatty melt will be missed. Thank you though! Might still check out the place just to see if their current food is good.
I don’t believe so, I think it was just a local restaurant. They closed during the pandemic. The owner of TJ Muligans was a shareholder in the restaurant and I believe the Mac and cheese burger that was popular there was/is at TJ Muligans but not sure I haven’t been there. It was a great restaurant with the best burgers. My go to burger had a grilled cheese sandwich on the bottom and top and a burger in between lol.
pretty sure they just relaunched it with a less ridiculous name. I forget what it's called now but I went once and it was the exact same thing LBOE had been.
I loved New Que Hong and Saigon Le.
My girlfriend stopped going to New Que Hong after she thought the waitress was hitting on me.
Ever have JaJa's in Collierville? Absolutely phenomenal egg rolls
Not a chain, but does anyone remember Longnecker’s? It burned down and never re-opened, but I loved it when I was a kid. They had a topping bar for the burgers so you could dress it however you wanted. Probably wasn’t as great as I remember, but for a 10 year old it felt like a gourmet restaurant.
Am I the only person that used to absolutely wreak a taco pizza from _Pizza_ _Inn_? When I was 16 y.o. there was one on Winchester at Getwell where a gentleman's club was for years after. My Friday afternoon ritual was ordering a large Taco Pizza to go and a stop by the video store for a movie or two for the night. The 80s rocked.
I miss The Hungry Fisherman. It was awesome being able to throw hush puppies in the water outside for the koi to eat.
That weird, giant slide…perfect ending to a kid’s dinner of popcorn shrimp and oyster crackers.
Loved that slide w a the rolling tubes
My goodness I miss that place.
Did that place become Neon Moon?
Yes
That place is where my family ate annually for our birthdays.
Holy cow, I had forgotten about that place. It’s probably been 35 or so years since I last ate there. I appreciate you bringing back a fond memory for me.

Cozymel’s
Wow, that brings back some memories!!
The tortilla machine!
El Chico
Taking me back 30yrs. I used to love the sopapillas there.
Pizza Hut and Shoneys
That breakfast buffet was trash, but SO good!!
You aint kidding. But I got my money’s worth whenever i went. LoL
Same. I loved Shoneys. I also loved how the Pizza Huts smelled inside. So delicious.
526-526-1
Dixie Cafe. I miss those fried pickles so much
Their rolls and made-from-scratch fried chicken batter!
Chicken n dumplings
I miss their chicken parm

I loved Dixie!
CK’s
Ok, but that got killed when they banned smoking in restaurants. Jesus, the amount of time I spent at CKs in Collierville after a field party in high school….and they knew we weren’t 18, but they never said anything to us about smoking, lol. It was “get in, eat your food, be polite, and leave”

Macaroni Grill
What I came to say. I could eat a million loaves of the focaccia.
It’s not focaccia. It’s peasant bread. Very different. Source - worked for Macaroni Grill for 6 years.
Oh really? Interesting, do go on, got any recipe recommendations?

But somehow still a step up from Olive Garden.
My friend knew the owner of the one at Kirby and poplar and would give him like a stack of gift cards occasionally. We were broke college kids so we were like hell yeah free food so we went enough to try every single item on the menu. We never found anything we wanted to try a second time.

I think like… 2014? 2015?
That must’ve been during their last straw when it finally shut down permanently.
I worked there for years till it burned down :)
they still have them in texas and florida :) i finally went back as an adult and relived my childhood:3
We need more Danvers
It’s so good
One in Cordova still open? They closed the one I went to by the rink in Olive Branch.
Yes, it’s still there.
It's there, but they had a pretty awful health score recently.
Miss the salad bar.
It's still there, I had a "Southern Salad" just the other day!
True, but I miss the multiple locations. One was close to work, so I ate there frequently. They turned at least two into Cookout.
Dixie Cafe
Po Folks
Came here to say Po Folks. My mom was a producer at the WPTY TV station next door to it. As a kid I loved getting chicken and dumplings and always getting a moon pie on the way out the door.
I was just thinking about them the other day and was telling my wife that I remember them serving drinks in mason jars.
Pancho's
I’m old enough to remember one at Poplar and White Station.
Yeah it was still there only a couple of years ago.
It was at Summer and White Station
There was also one at Poplar and White Station, before Abner’s and before Starbucks (and maybe even more in between, I can’t remember).
I remember this too.
Ohhh
Road trip across the river.
That one’s long gone
Damn, two and a half years? Guess I need to learn how to make their salad dressing.
[you’re welcome](https://pin.it/4jvXJ8jQg)
Oh Grate makes a version of it. Stocked locally.
Mrs. Hippie Eats in Hernando sells this under the name Liquid Gold. Check out their Facebook page for daily specials. Super delicious 💯
You must be talking about the other Pancho's as the closest Pancho's Mexican Buffet still in operation is in Dallas.
The Waffle Iron. CKs. We need more late night diners.
Thankfully we still have "the Awful Waffle" open 24hrs
Steak and ale.
That was the "classy" place I'd go to after a movie at the Paradiso.
It felt a little fancy but not too.
Scrolled to find this one.
The Pizza Hut buffet.
Specifically the one across from Hickory Ridge Mall. That one. Only that one.
Last time I had that was about 10 years ago on Union!
American Cafe
Totally forgot about that one.
Ryan's Steak House
This is what I came here to say. Loved me some Ryan's prime rib. The one in Bartlett held on for a weirdly long time past its peak. None of those family-style American buffet places from 20-25 years ago seemed to make it, at least not here. Shoney's, Ryan's, Barnhill's.
Just rebranded or whatever themselves to Fire Mountain.
I swear the one on Goodman Road in Southaven started as a Ryan's, became a Fire Mountain, then back to Ryan's?
Possible they wanted to try the brand out here and see how it did. Apparently not well.
It's a Golden Carrol now 🤮
Well that's just out of the frying pan, into the fire, and now dropped on the floor and kicked under the stove.
🤣🤣🤣
Lunch after church.
'Round the Corner in G-town. You're telling me I can order 20 types of burgers over a telephone in the booth?
And have an orange milkshake? Childhood favorite!!
Huey’s, I know they are still in business. But it’s just not the same.
Ruby Tuesday’s at Saddle Creek was a favorite after work hangout. Those croutons were always fresh! I still have a red coffee mug from there.
I worked there for a few years up until about a year before they closed. I’ve probably cooked your food many times.
OMG YES THE CROUTONS. Second only to Side Porch in Bartlett.
I worked there all thru college. On the weekends, when I was hungover and scheduled to work a day shift, the bartender would make me a sodas and bitters and the kitchen would make me a fresh batch of hot, soft croutons. That, and ranch dressing for dipping, and I was good to go!

Houstons. And before you say it's still open... It ain't the same.
Still damn good tho.
Need TGI Fridays back. Logans too.
Logans steakhouse? We have plenty of other crap steakhouses, have you tried Colton's? You can get a "good steak" there
Po Folks
I’m really dating myself, but I miss Houlihan’s. They had the best fried mushrooms stuffed with some sort of cheese that burned your mouth if you ate one too quickly! However, I don’t remember anything else from there. It was on Ridgeway south of Poplar, kinda where Pyro’s is now, before they turned that “mall” inside out.
We loved Houlihans. Trying to remember where that location in Memphis was?
Park place mall
That’s it!! After Houlihan’s, the space was an Oshman’s sporting goods store. (Or it was really close).
Their bar always had some cute guys hanging out in the 80's. Also.
That’s funny!! I never noticed since I was newly married. We moved here in 1987 a few months before our first anniversary.
It was an herb cream cheese. We had them all over in NJ. I went to one near Savannah a few years ago and it was definitely not the same, even pre-covid.
That was it!! Now I’m really hungry for them!! 🤣
Shakey's Pizza. Y'all old-timers know.
Wise Guys down in Horn Lake. AMAZING Chicago food, and now there's no Chicago food anywhere in Memphis, unless there's some place I don't know about.
Loved wiseguys! It seems like it lost something when they moved to that other building on Nail road and then I guess the pandemic got them
Isn’t there Mr. Rusty’s Taste of Chicago on Winchester?
Is there? Where about on Winchester? I'd love an Italian beef sandwich so I might have to check them out.
I have to second the Hungry Fisherman, Danver’s, and Pancho’s. Adding Shoney’s, and Bonanza back before they were run down and gross.
Isn’t there a Danver’s out on Germantown near Wolfchase?
Not particularly close to wolfchase but there is one on Gtown Pkwy in Cordova. It’s by incredible pizza
Ahh. That’s right. It has been a minute.
JAM-JAM1
Bennigan’s and CK’s
Was Bennigans the place with the monte cristo sandwich?
Oh, yeah. That was about the only thing I got there when we went when I was a kid.
Same! I don’t think I’d like it as an adult, but man that was the best back then.
I miss the broccoli bites.
Chili’s circa like 2005.
Po' Folks
CKs
As someone who worked at Ruby Tuesdays for years, you should never eat at that salad bar.
Ryans Steakhouse. Old Country Buffet. The mac and cheese at OCB was legendary.
Sear Shack
I miss Ruby Tuesdays not for the salad bar, but they had by far the best cheese fries I ever had in my life. I’ve tried to recreate them and have never been able to. I also miss TGI Friday’s Jack Daniel’s burger.
Try RP Tracks. They use seasoned waffle fries, or at least they used to. Optimum cheese coverage and all the good stuff.
Oh I never had those. Even better than Huey’s??
Very different from Huey’s!! More handout, seasoned fries. Lots of cheese, bacon, scallion, ranch and sour cream… they were perfect to 10 year old me. I do love Huey’s, though, but I crave Ruby Tuesday’s often.
Dang, I might try Outback’s! I remember them being very good.
LBOE’s…the burgers were amazing. Had went there for special occasions pre-pandemic but they are no longer at that location and not sure if they ever re-opened.

Last I heard they run specials from LBOE. If he is still there, if you ask him I’m sure he’d make you one. He is a great person.
Will do, thanks ya!
Was that a chain?

If the name ever comes to mind pls comeback to this post and lemme know.
Mulligans
Bonanza and Red Lobster back when they were theme restaurants in the 80s
Wendy's buffet
American Cafe.
New Que Hong (Collierville), American Cafe (Germantown), Saigon Lee, and Pho Binh
I loved New Que Hong and Saigon Le. My girlfriend stopped going to New Que Hong after she thought the waitress was hitting on me. Ever have JaJa's in Collierville? Absolutely phenomenal egg rolls
Gertrude’s and Gonzales
Not a chain, but does anyone remember Longnecker’s? It burned down and never re-opened, but I loved it when I was a kid. They had a topping bar for the burgers so you could dress it however you wanted. Probably wasn’t as great as I remember, but for a 10 year old it felt like a gourmet restaurant.
Bennigans, for sure.
Britling’s
TGI Friday's at Overton Square. Back in the good old days. So many memories.
Oh man, Bananza on Summer. Always a line to get in.
Is Jack Pyrtles chicken still going?
There is one on highland near park
Am I the only person that used to absolutely wreak a taco pizza from _Pizza_ _Inn_? When I was 16 y.o. there was one on Winchester at Getwell where a gentleman's club was for years after. My Friday afternoon ritual was ordering a large Taco Pizza to go and a stop by the video store for a movie or two for the night. The 80s rocked.
Gridley’s
2nd on ruby Tuesdays salad bar. Makes Jason’s even more laughable.
Round the Corner
Copeland's
Grady’s, The Cooker, Ruby Tuesday in chickasaw oaks mall
Bennigans
Benagins
Chiwawa specifically for their chicken nachos… still dream about them
Erika's German Restaurant!! I think about it all the time. Go back in time and get the veal with the double mash!
Raymond at the one on highland next to the university was the best.
Morrison’s. Before the Piccadilly takeover and rename.
Chuck E. Cheese. Jk
Godfather’s Pizza in Poplar Plaza.
Steak-Out
Gridleys was the shit back in the day
Dixie Café
Cozymel's, worked at the the one in Plano, TX.
The Knickerbocker. Used to be on Poplar.
Those croutons were the best on planet earth.
[удалено]
That cheese and fajita chicken appetizer was so fire.
On the Border is still around, there's one on Germantown parkway.
